Haven’t been for a long time so gave it a go and as a previous reviewer said it’s a great standard for a hotel, our food was very tasty and the service was excellent, it will be our first point of call next time we use Manchester airport I was impressed.

My friend and I have eaten here a few times, and have always enjoyed the delicious food! During our most recent visit, we had the "Sampans" set menu, and I'd definitely recommend it. The restaurant itself looks quite stylish, and the chairs are comfy. The atmosphere was relaxed and although there were a few other people in, they weren't too loud and we could hear our own conversation. The staff were excellent, especially our main waiter (I think he was called Edward?), who was very friendly and funny! Thanks for everything - we will be back. :D

Ate here Saturday 14th of March. Got really mixed messages about the quality of food and the size of portions after reading some of the reviews. For us, the quantity is more than enough. Quality is excellent across soup, starter and main. Yes, at first glance and compared to take-a-way prices it may seem expensive, hbut you need to consider other issues. 1) nearest competition for Far Eastern food, is the pot noodle rack in the spar shop in T1 (cannot confirm quality or the cost). 2) has anyone considered how much the concessions are at the Crowne Plaza? (No). Bottom line, if you want a convivial evening with good food, excellent friendly service then eat here. If you want to eat cheap, go to the spar shop, or, bring a pot noodle from home.

Myself and partner are staying in the Hilton next door but after reading the reviews decided to pay Sampans a visit. We was not disappointed at all. The service fast and food was top class. Highly reccommend.

We’ve eaten here several times now and the food is first class. We hadn’t booked in advance but they accommodated us and the waiter we had was very good and very funny. Although a bit pricey it was convenient and we would definitely eat here again.

We thoroughly enjoyed our experience. You really should try it, the staff are warm and accommodating, the food excellent. Having spent time in Asia this is a great reflection of authentic food. The portions are perfect in size and extremely tasty. I saw how busy the bars were that were serving burgers and fries, very sad for a place like this who are really trying to serve great food, but somehow weren’t at all busy; try this you really won’t be disappointed.

This is an oriental restaraunt in the crowne plaza hotel manchester airport. The portion sizes are small but the quality is very good. Flavours are correct and the service is good. The menu has great variety and I would rate this one of the best Airport hotel restaurants I have visited.

Good night before the flight, service was very good, food was good but not great, price point was high but I suppose your a captive audience ? Would I go back no, did they do anything wrong no, prices seem a little high as well . Overall a pleasant stay and dinner. Hi

We come here quite a lot before we go on holiday , and the food is absolutely amazing. The staff are efficient and friendly with a good banter. Once you have been here it will be one of your favorites... The stuff can't do an offer for you and the chef is tremendous.

Went to this restaurant as part of our package at the hotel. The staff were fantastic and really friendly. We both enjoyed our meals and would certainly eat here again.

Lovely staff, very attentive. Food was very expensive for what it was, felt like daylight robbery, poor start to the holiday feeling ripped off. Quality of food was ok, takeaway style. I suggest eating outside the airport to avoid being prayed on.

We've used this restaurant quite a few times on the night before travel. It's always been excellent service and good food I'd booked by email and had a conformation reply. Unfortunately the person who replied forgot to book the table, they did seat us however even though they were extremely busy and were very apologetic giving us complimentary drinks and nibbles. They are an extremely helpful and friendly staff and the food is delicious

I dined here with some colleagues whilst staying at the Clayton hotel next door whilst on business. A lovely warm welcome and great service. I noticed that the menu was slightly different to the one online so I asked if I could have the Tom Kha soup from the old menu, no problem. All starters were a great portion size and absolutely delicious. Same with the mains, huge portions and really tasty where we actually left quite a lot of food so might be a better idea to get a few dishes and share. Really great friendly hospitality from the staff and great food, can't ask for any more.

We were staying at the Hotel overnight as our flight was delayed. We were all feeling a little deflated plus it was our daughter’s birthday. We chose to eat in the restaurant after finding the hot buffet provided by the hotel didn’t look too appetising and hardly anything left when we arrived. We received a very friendly welcome at the restaurant. The two gentlemen serving us were both very friendly and efficient. The food we ordered was amazing. A great choice of dishes. Hot, fresh, tasty and beautifully cooked. We all really enjoyed it. Our evening was excellent in all areas and we certainly felt we had celebrated our daughter’s birthday after the disappointing flight delay to our ski holiday. I would love to go back to the Crowne Plaza just to eat here. Thank you.

Outstanding resteraunt with wonderful helpful welcoming staff. After two weeks eating most nights there I can honestly say this is one of the best Asian cuisine resteraunt in the UK . Bell & the rest of the staff deserve an award for outstanding service.

Superb food and service - you won’t be disappointed . Chef here knows how to cook superb pan Asian cuisine and the restaurant staff are just superb. You just don’t normally find this quality in airport hotels.

I have stayed at Crowne Plaza several times and always wanted to try this place (right off reception). Tonight I did, and although I didn’t dine it was FANTASTIC. Feeling out of sorts on a long day of travel with a layover, I didn’t want to have to deal with sit down service. So, I ordered veggie pad Thai to take to my room and had a drink in the lounge while I waited. It was delivered to me at my seat at the bar 30 minutes later. It was a standard plastic take out container and there were no garnishes (lime, peanuts, etc.). I wasn’t expecting much. And, by the time I finished my drink and got to my room the food would have been at least 30 minutes old. It was Luke warm when I ate it and , and like I say in the heading here - WOW. Absolutely delicious. I love SE Asian food and I have had Pad Thai in many places, including street food in Thailand itself. This was easily comparable. Rich and complex flavour, crisp veggies, succulent tofu, and that spice level that makes your eyes water but doesn’t burn your tastebuds out. Superb. If this is what the food is like in a takeout container after half an hour, I can only imagine what it’s like fresh from the kitchen. I would honestly come here for dinner, even though it’s an airport hotel!!!! Bang on.

Fantastic food which was cooked really well and presented beautifully.

We were staying at the hotel next door (the Clayton), but came to this restaurant as it offered more than the one at our hotel.I'm so glad we did. The food was fantastic, the service was great and the prices were very reasonable considering it's a hotel restaurant. Will definitely return.

Absolutely delicious Vegetarian meal - made even more wonderful by the super Edward advising us on our selections!

I was recieved by Edward Ravi, a very happy,friendly ,polite and mannered man. His hospitality was immaculate. I was then attended by one of the chefs and as I couldnt choose something from the menu he ordered a dish off the menu which was tailored just to me.

We ate here whilst staying at the Crowne Plaza airport hotel as it is located off the lobby. There is an extensive pan-Asian menu, catering for carnivores, pescatarians, vegetarians, vegans and special diets, at really reasonable prices. The drinks menu was limited and fairly expensive, but that was expected for an airport hotel restaurant and the prices were replicated in the hotel bar. The waiting staff were very friendly and attentive, and were happy to assist with menu choices. The food was really good, we both practically inhaled all our dishes! Highly recommended.

I had a really good meal here. Bell, my waiter, was very friendly and professional. Was keen to hear about my trip and made it a very memorable meal! Great job!

Slightly expensive but in a hotel so to be expected I guess but fantastic menu and the staff epitomise what’s great about people from that part of the world ( Thai and Malaysian).

Had a meal at the Sampans Oriental Restaurant located within the Crowne Plaza on Manchester Ringway this evening.

Bell greeted me and was unaware of my tiring commute but accepted me, no, welcomed me to a delightful 2 course meal with green tea. It was perfection. The food is all so fresh and made with care. Those pancakes with the duck were fantastic. All staff are so polite and leave you feeling relaxed and without a want. Thank you for making the end to my day one worth looking forward to next time.

We had the Oriental set menu for 2 which was tasty and filling (although didn't care for the dumplings). The best course though was the sizzling Cantonese Beef along with the sesame prawn toast which I will have again on their own with egg fried rice next time we stay in February 2020.

We love staying at the Crowne Plaza when we have an early flight especially because we can eat at Sampans. The food is excellent and the restaurant has a nice atmosphere. The only downside is it’s a little pricey.

Me and my husband went here while staying at the Crown plaza and I could not fault it at all. The staff were very attentive and friendly. The menu was very varied and everything sounded great. We shared a duck which was amazing as a starter. I had the nasi goring and the portion was massive, very tasty and very spicy as my main and my husband had the massaman curry which rice which he really enjoyed. We would definately come here again.

My wife and I stayed over at the Crown Plaza prior to flying off to celebrate our anniversary. A quick look at Trip Advisor made up our minds to try Sampans and what a great decision that was. Nice modern restaurant with relaxed ambiance. We received a very warm welcome and were promptly offered drinks and the menu.... and what a menu it is. There is a huge choice of many different dishes which are all very reasonably priced.

We didn't book for our evening meal, and should have because it was very busy. Luckily, because we said we could eat early, we managed to get a table. The service was great - the waiting staff were efficient but happy to have a chat and a joke too, which was nice. Good sized portions, a nice range on the menu and reasonable choice of wines.

Excellent food and service. £75.00 for two including drinks and service charge. Highly recomend and we will certainly be back

The Sampans Oriental restaurant situated in the Crown Plaza, Manchester Airport hotel has the most fantastic choice and range of very tasty food. This is enhanced by the great service with a very friendly approach from all the staff with Isabella the "star of the show" making my evening meal very enjoyable.

Not being big eaters we chose a bit of mix and match to share mainly from the small dish menu. Our waiter was extremely attentive and showed a first class attention to detail. Whilst being informed that there were three chicken satay skewers per portion four were delivered, class.

We didn’t make a reservation, but left our name and number for when a table became available. We didn’t wait long, and someone came to find us in the bar o let us know our table was ready. The revive continued to be good throughout our meal. The food was delicious and reasonably priced (given what you often get charged in hotels). Would recommend to others.

I can't say enough for this place it never disappoints, we always make an effort to go when ever in the area..

Another meal at Sampans to start off our holiday the night before a flight, and anothe excellent one too. There always seems to be something new and exciting on the menu, though my wife started with her favourite vegetable tempura. I had the fishcakes and the scollops, both decent sized helpings with intricate flavours. For mains we had the chilli tofu and the thai infused steamed salmon. Excellent service and a wonderful bottle of Malbec to go with everything. Another perfect meal.

I sent a message to ask for a table availability but nobody answered. After dinner time I’m still without any answer.

Situated inside the Crowne Plaza we have used this restaurant a number of times and it never fails to please. Lovely seafood dishes with a generous amount of seafood. Great service, very attentive staff. Not the cheapest meal but worth the money

Staying at the Crowne Plaza the night before we go away and booked into the on site restaurant. The menu looked very nice but that didn’t prepare us for the food that was to come! We ordered the Oriental set meal and off we went. The prawn Toast was nice but the ribs were sensational, the flavour and the meat dropped off the bone! The dim sum was an absolute triumph as was the duck pancakes. Then the main course, the prawns were sensational and the star of the meal, the sizzling beef and Thai chicken curry were very close but we were blown away by the quality! The staff were very attentive, friendly and referred to us by our names and never forgot (even with the restaurant filling up) don’t think twice about visiting here!!

We stayed at the Crowne plaza at Manchester airport and we were pleasantly surprised to find Sampans. We had prawn tempura, spring rolls, chicken satay and the prawn were bringing soup. All the starters were delicious. For our mains we had Sweet and Sour chicken, duck breast with ginger and hoisin sauce with pak Choi and pickled ginger and Beef with oyster sauce with fried rice. We ate everything on the plates it was that good.

Many thanks to Isabelle, who recommended us another beautiful meal. We received an excellent, top class service from her! The mixed seafood in oyster sauce was great and for all seafood lovers it is certainly no.1 in the menu. We will keep on coming back!

Sampans is a top class Thai restaurant located within the Crowne Plaza Hotel at Manchester Airport. When staying in the Crowne Plaza overnight for an earlly flight the next day we always eat at Sampans. The Manager, Edward merits a special mention and praise for his friendly manner and excellent attention to detail, this is a very well run restaurant with first class food and service.

This restaurant is one of my favourites. It never disappoints and they will try and help any requests.

The staff were friendly and efficient. We had a Pan-Asian set meal which was superb. There was more than enough food, all of good quality. We will definitely be back again next time we stay here.

Wow! We absolutely loved everything about Sampans restaurant, from the moment we arrived we felt at home, the staff were amazing and couldn't do enough for us, the food was delicious so tasty, we've had an amazing time and we will be back, the perfect start to our holiday x

Great food and service and the ambiance was great, one of the best Thai green curry's I've had outside of Thailand, amazing and I recommend a visit

I was served by Edward,. He introduced self to me. Manner was affable but professional. I had a booked allowance for dinner (£25). I chose the table d'hote menu and payed for extra drinks I had via Mastercard. Allowance for dinner, when booking, is this amount. Anything else outside this must be paid for by card. Please don't fall into the trap that booking dinner ,means whatever you have is covered. If you choose the a la carte menu, then the differences must be paid. A family nearby had children so this restaurant appears to cater for them. I had the crispy wonton (4) with sweet chilli sauce. They were light/crispy and filling, followed by the Thai Red Curry (recommended by Edward when I requested) . Consisted of Chicken, Bamboo Shoots, Red/Green Peppers, Lime Leaf, and extremely light Egg Fried Rice- I availed of the chopsticks!! This dish was beautifully spicy with level of chilli. I had two bottles of Tsing Tao Beer. I think there was dessert and or fragrant tea, but the courses filled me admirably. Again, differences outside of booking settled by Mastercard. Will definitely be returning here on my next foreign trip from Manchester!

Iran here every time I stay in the hotel with work. Edward and the team couldn’t do more to welcome you. The food is beautiful and the service is great. Well worth a visit if your passing!

Enjoyed our meal here. Have to admit it was on the expensive side even for an airport restaurant. I can recommend the Beef in Black Bean sauce just lovely.

The receptionist recommended this restaurant and we weren't disappointed, Food was gorgeous, plenty of choice. Staff were attentive and couldn't do enough for you. Would highly recommend.

We stayed at the hotel the night before our honeymoon and decided to eat at the restaurant. A decision we definitely do not regret.

A little late writing this however we had a wonderful experience from start to finish. The food was superb (coconut king prawn, soft shell crab, ribs, scallops and beef in black bean sauce) - they also tailored my daughters Ninja tray due to her dairy allergy and she ate everything - which isn't always easy with a 3.5yr old. Special mention to Edward who was a terrific host...he was brilliant.

You'd be forgiven for not expecting too much of an airport hotels restaurant.

This was our 3rd visit to the restaurant and has become one of the main reasons for booking to stay at this hotel. The restaurant meal marks the start of the holiday. There is an excellent variety of food and the service is very good - attentive but not over powering.

I order some food for take away. Edward took care of me with a lot of hospitality. Im not picky for food but people lol I recommend you here to have stress-free comfy dinner. 夕食の持ち帰りをお願いしました。 エドワードさんという方が面白く、冗談を交えて心地良い接客をしてくださいました。 居心地の良いディナーにお勧めします。

Sampans in Crown Plaza hotel at M’cster airport is a hidden pearl.

We had an excellent meal at Sampans Oriental Restaurant! We were served by Edward who really looked after us and was very attentive! This was our first time at a Crowne Plaza restaurant and hope all their restaurants have service like this!

Clearly microwaved food. Small main course portion of over cooked food for £17!! £3.50 for “egg fried rice” that was clearly just microwaved. Don’t bother.

Stay one night prior to out holiday in crowne plaza hotel had dinner at sampans and were not disappointed it was fantastic and flavoursome. A defo if your stopping there.

Ate here December. Had chicken and sweetcorn soup to start. Crispy chilli beef and seafood for mains. Very filling and good size portions. Service was friendly and would happily return if staying at the crown plaza again.

We ate while staying at the hotel, and had wonderful food, and a superb bottle of wine from a great choice. We started with crayfish salad, and vegetable dumplings and spring rolls. All light and tasty. For mains we had king prawy green curry - so many prawns and a wonderful flavour sauce, and the chilli tofu, which was excellent and full of onions and peppers too. Wonderful flavours, excellent service

We stayed the night at the Crowne Plaza and decided to try the Sampans restaurant. It was very clean and the staff were very pleasant. The menu was fairly extensive and reasonably priced. The food was very good and nicely presented.

Stayed at the crowne plaza last weekend chose Sampans over the bar rest so glad we did tasty food and good service a little expensive but what do you expect in a airport restaurant had 2 starters, 2 mains as 2 drinks £80. Really recommend the pad Thai

Such a delicious meal. The service was excellent but the food was definitely the best Asian meal. We weren't rushed and whilst it was quite expensive it was a lovely evening, looking forward to stopping over again

The tuna was delicious and perfectly cooked but the Thai yellow curry, specifically requested to be spicy was mild, creamy and quite sickly. The liquor coffees were weak in coffee and liquor. One waiter was very friendly and efficient, but another pestered for us to order when we weren’t ready. The restaurant is overly expensive - 2 starters, 3 main courses, one side, 2 rice, one bottle of house wine and 3 liquor coffees came to £162.

I was meeting a colleague who was staying at the Crowne Plaza at Manchester Airport, and we needed somewhere to eat that was quiet enough for us to talk about business, so we chose Sampans over the Grill or the Bar area both of which were fairly noisy, and I was so glad we did - the food and service were both excellent. We had prawn crackers and sweet chilli dipping sauce to start - lovely - and then shared a chicken dish and also shredded chilli beef, both served with egg-fried rice, and both of which were delicious. I enjoyed a glass of sauvignon blanc with my meal, and I had banana fritters with ice cream for pudding - my favourite! Coffee was also excellent. I would eat here again, and even consider coming specially to do so!

Couldn’t fault Sampans - the food was delicious, a great range of vegetarian dishes were available all the way through from starters to mains and desserts. Service was second to none and the staff really did go above and beyond to make all guests feel special. Although not a cheap meal, it’s worth every penny!

Based in the Crown Plaza hotel this is well worth a visit. The food is excellent the staff are first class offering a great food experience It’s well worth a visit especia before you fly.

Ate with a group of 16 people, the food and service were excellent. One of the best Chinese meals we have eaten, paying individual bills was so easy. Great service, will definitely be back.

Once again this Restaurant hits the mark - if this was in the centre of Manchester it would be N0.1 in my opinion - I have been here 4 times and I can not compare which meal was the best - the staff are fantastic and if I didn't have to pay the silly parking hotel charges I'd be here much much more... I can only apologise for not reviewing here in the past well done Team we will be returning

Me and the wife tried the set meal for two and it was delicious. The waitress allowed me to swap the chicken noodle soup for Tom yum which really made my day as it's my favourite soup. Service was outstanding, the decor excellent and there was plenty of food. With a bottle of wine and the service charge it was well worth the £100 Bill. Highly recommended.

There’s a choice of The Grill or Sampans Thai at the Crowne Plaza - we chose Thai and had a a great evening. Nan and Isabella gave friendly and cheerful service and the food and drinks excellent. The Thai dishes were authentic and hot, including entree’s, mains (including red and green curries) and desserts. Not cheap but very good value for money.

This was a great place to eat and the food was excellent. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We had an 18 month old with us and they tried to engage with her and look to her needs which was to be commended. If you haven’t made reservations when booking the hotel then do so when you register to avoid disappointment. We found it a lovely experience to start our holiday.

I stayed overnight prior to an early morning flight.

Visited here during our stay, we paid for a dine and stay deal, and the options in Sampan were a starter and main per person from a set menu or £25 to spend each on the normal menu. Much more choice and value for money by choosing the latter option so would recommend this. The food was fantastic. So flavoursome and tasty. The nasi goreng was fab. Only downside was the wine prices, same throughout the hotel, cheapest bottle was £26.50. The Rioja was £32 but can be bought for £11 online so bit of an extortionate mark up. Either way, you have to try Sampan for the food. Superb

Surprisingly good food for an airport hotel. Good choice and whilst expensive (bearing in mind it is an airport so expect it to be more than high street prices) it is comparable with bar meal prices in the other Manchester airport hotels, the standard was very high. Having said that, the portion sizes were generous. I would not hesitate to eat here again. We had walked past on previous visits to Crowne Plaza, but was glad that we tried it tonight.

Immediate impression of decor - it's more like a cafeteria than a restaurant. In terms of the food. my main course- chilli tofu was supposed to be spicy but it didn't appear to have any chilli in it at all - instead dates and sugar. I was horrible. My starter - king prawn tempura - was mediocre. My husband can't remember what he ate - but he recalls that it wasn't very good. Bottom line - it's very expensive for what is no better than poor take-away food. To be fair though, when I commented about my main they did deduct the cost from the bill, which was very decent of them.

In the past month I have visites sampans on 2 occasions with colleagues.

Nice enough meal - however 4 different servers is a bit bizarre.

Airport hotels are not necessarily known for good quality food, but I was pleasantly surprised to find a pan-Asian restaurant in the Crowne Plaza, with Thai menu options.
