Quite often go here for lunch on a Friday and always been nice, until yesterday. One of the specials was steak and mushroom pie, I was quite fancying this until I saw them, they were anemic, needed to of been cooked another 5 mins in the oven, they looked terrible. So my friend and I decided against that and went for the quiche, disappointed again, quiche part was ok but again the pastry underneath wasn’t cooked, it was grey and doughy, very unappetisingly. Don’t know whether they have a new cook or the oven is faulty but certainly needs looking into, not as busy as normal either, maybe they should wonder why.

Sadly very disappointing, I adked if I could have a panini (they sell them) with the hot beef from the roast lunch - told no. Ok, so ordered the roast beef dinner (x2) beef was so tough I couldn’t even get the knife through it let alone try to chew it. Been before & no complaints but unfortunately today was a waste of money.

Went along today as we have been several times before and it was good. Today however it was not. We both opted for the Sunday roast beef with vegetables and Yorkshire pudding. I got 1 slice of beef that was like shoe leather, my cauliflower had no sauce and was hard and the same with the broccoli. The mashed potatoes were bland. My friend got 2 and a half slices of beef but left them as they could not cut through the meat. He left his veg due to it being hard . He also got carrots, where I got none. Staff seemed disinterested in providing customer service. Not sure if we got the last if the beef as it was removed from the specials blackboard after we ordered ours. I won’t hurry back .

First of all, apologies to the staff member who served us. Sorry I asked as you were obviously not interested in your job. Miserable and disinterested, got a job elsewhere if you are not happy. Ordered a fruit scone but couldn't eat it, it had obviously been sat for a couple of days and dried out, yuck. Ordered a hazlenut latte, what arrived was just a coffee with syrup stirred in, foul. Yup, youve guessed it, I wasnt happy at all. Is it mandatory for the staff to be orange and have stick on eyelashes and nails? I saw to other tables leave their scones as well. Wake up cafe or you will lose all your customers.

Sam Turner staff are equally grumpy and disinterested both in the cafe and the attached garden centre. All, without exception, give the feeling to the customers that both they wish you were not there, and they wish they were not there either. In the past I've been served soup, half a bowl each as I heard a member of staff in the back complaining they were running short and to 'divided it between the bowls. It was watery and tasteless. I asked for a cappuccino and got a flat white served. When I pointed this out, I got the practised 'eye-role', no apology, just "I'll get you another, she's new..." I take it this was referring to the young female yakking away to an equally young and disinterested female while trying to serve me. I am a frequent visitor to the garden centre and this is no better. I've been chased across a car park accused of not paying for plants - and no apology when I produced the receipt, laughed at sarcastically when asking for a particular plant that had been showcased on the Chelsea flower show tv programme, and finally shouted at by a yardman " she would never say that ever!!!" for having the audacity to ask the price of something, when his colleague behind the till had told me he would help and to go ask him. Horrible place, awful atmosphere, I've spent hundreds of pounds there in the past will never go back.

Disappointed , i had just been served no please or thank you from staff at till, quite abrupt they just talked to each while serving me. I sat down and was telling my husband they are not at all friendly when another family sat near us were brought their order they said there was something missing from their order, staff member was not happy and said i will look at order then came back again very rude saying that this was not written on the order and had not been charged so if they wanted it they would have to pay, the family looked really embarrassed as was everyone else that could hear,. It was not there fault this wasn't written on order it was staff at till, if they weren't so busy talking to each other while they are serving customers they might get the order right in the first place! Was not good customer service.

Up until this most recent visit to Sam Turners, we have only ever tried toasted sandwiches and tea/cake. Tried a full English breakfast and mince, dumplings and chips. The food was tasty enough, but the breakfast was Luke warm & very meagre portions. The bacon was extremely dry, you couldn’t cut through it! The mince and dumpling was also extremely dry, virtually no gravy just very thick mince. I explained the mince was really dry and to my surprise I had to pay 40p for a tiny jug of instant gravy! A very poor meal indeed.

Just been in today about 2.30pm for 2 coffees and a tea. £8.20, a bit expensive. The table had been rubbed but chairs had not. The floor was dreadful, lots of food about and days-old dust around the bottoms of the tables. This was not just the table we sat at, most of the neighbouring tables were the same. One was uneven and was chucked up at one side with a piece of cardboard. We didn't buy food so cannot comment. Looking at the price list and what came out for other customers the charge was a bit steep. Will not be going again. 2 points for the quick service.

We called for a morning cuppa & snack this week.We ordered 2 regular Americanos & a teacake to share, their teacakes are usually a good size, our teacake was tiny, when queried, I was told it was all they could get. The regular coffee was a small cup & not hot.I checked the bill when I got home, £2.30 for a tiny teacake & £2.30 for a small coffee.I emailed my dissatisfaction, the reply was, the price reflects inflation.I'm pleased my Sainsbury's order hasn't inflated as much.Sammie's used to be very good, serving good reasonably priced food, obviously, we're paying for last year.

Good points are lovey food and the staff are friendly. The only negative point about sam Turners is the toilet facility. At the moment there is only one toilet available for use by customers. In the current climate of coronavirus cases increasing this is not a good idea. Toilets,in my opinion, are where you get the most germs. Please consider reopening more toilet facilities for the public.

We recently called in here for breakfast. It had just opened and yet my fried egg and sausage looked like they had been cooked the day before. Egg was burned on the bottom and the sausage over cooked and dry, I asked two different waitresses for ketchup and despite assurances it was on its way I am still waiting. I would suggest Sam Turners run a competition with their cafe in the Northallerton branch to compare customer satisfaction, I have visited both places fairly regularly and Northallerton cafe wins every time. However the shop is well stocked and staff seem knowledgeable and helpful, it appears that they are being let down by the service in the cafe. They could do with someone taking overall control in this dept.

We regularly visit the tearoom at Sam Turners (Piercebridge) and never come away disappointed. Generally a nice place to visit. However, due to three women wearing wellies covered in horse muck we were forced to change seats. The smell was simply too overpowering and can’t believe this total lack of respect for other people who want to enjoy a nice meal. I know this is a farmers type of tearoom, but perhaps Sam Turners should ban wellies & horse boots. On this occasion, 2 out of 5 (sorry)

I have been here a few times with friends who love it. However, although the staff and surroundings are pleasant enough I was particularly disappointed today with the so called cappuccino I ordered. I would respectfully request that the management invest in proper barista training of staff preparing coffee, it is an art, and makes so much difference to the experience. The drink as presented was made with milk which had been reheated too many times so there was no micro foam in the body of the drink and had been overheated in an attempt to generate some degree of foam. The result was underwhelming. No, I won’t be ordering another one, sorry Sam.

So I really don’t like writing bad reviews but I feel like this needs to be done. Attended today along with my husband and sons and popped into the cafe whilst there. Our son isn’t fussy but he is autisic and meal times are extremely funny for him especially eating out. Today he saw what was in front of him and he could see Yorkshire puddings and mash. Both beige foods and edible for him. We asked if he could have this and were told yes. Whilst ordering the rest of the food we were told that Yorkshire puddings were made only for Sunday roast therefore he couldn’t have any. The female behind the counter was being dictated to and I felt sorry for her, she tried really hard listing other foods however when I explained he was a beige food eater there was nothing else he could eat. Members of kitchen staff looked at my like I was stupid when I asked what style of chips they served, again there is a difference between French fries style chips and frozen chips, our son again only eats a certain type, staff from the kitchen continued to stare. We eventually got a bowl of mash for him. When it was brought to the table it was covered in gravy. When I explained he wouldn’t eat gravy, the kitchen staff looked at me again like I was stupid and returned with a plain bowl of mash. I think they need to be more open to those with needs and not make them feel alone. For this reason I would not return to the cafe again until measures are in place to serve customers no matter what boundaries they may have.

Sammie' cafe full breakfast comes without black pudding, tomato and hash brown(s) although black pudding can be ordered as an extra. The veggie breakfast consisted of two eggs, two thin slices of tomato (not even a whole one) mushrooms and beans. They even had the cheek to charge the same price as a full breakfast for this. Lasagne and Sunday lunch was very tasteless - flapjack and cake was far too sweet. Overall the food was very poor for the price, you would be best visiting Mainsgill for lunch on the A66

Popped in while shopping in the store. The coffee quality was good a lot better than the Northallerton HQ. Cheesecake was also good quality. Service was very efficient despite the number of customers.

Popped into Sam Turners for a look around and thought we would have a coffee , my partner had to wait over 20 mins to be served , there was a short queue of 4 people in front of him but they took such a long time to be served , Mostly young girls that were serving , and some looked new starters , should of had more experienced people with them to stop the wait . The tables weren't cleared quickly ,I had to move dirty plates and cups before I could sit down . Coffee was nice but the cheese scone was very dry .

Called on Sunday for a bite to eat while out for a drive. Cafe very busy but was a couple of tables for two so lucky us. Both had Pea & Mint soup which was very nice tasty and hot. Roast dinners looked very nice and plenty having them.

Called in on Sunday as we were passing and found the cafe very busy with all tables occupied and people waiting but decided to wait and we were lucky as the people in front of us required larger tables. Hubby and me both had the roast beef and as usual it was very good with mashed potato, roast potatoes, carrots, cauliflower ,green beans and a big yorkshire pudding and delicious gravy all for £7.35 each....very good food and an even better price. There was lots of choices available but as we have been before and had the roast beef dinner we stuck with it and were not disappointed .Lots of very organised staff to serve and clear tables as well as those who cook the food obviously. We will certainly call again if we are passing.

Having been frequent and regular visitors to Sammies cafe since it opened we are never disappointed. It is first class. A cuppa and cake or a quick snack or a hearty lunch - Sammies cannot be faulted....which is why it is so popular! Prompt, efficient and friendly service is guaranteed. Nothing is too much trouble for the lovely staff. They work so hard, constantly aiming to please. The wide variety of menu makes choosing difficult. Quality, quantity and presentation is without doubt excellent value for money. The many regular customers speaks volumes for satisfaction enjoyed by all age groups. The question is how did we all manage before it opened?Thank you Sammies.

Called in to try their 'Christmas Dinner' which is on sale until they close for Xmas and I was very disappointed. £8 for what is a pensioner's or child's sized Sunday lunch at best, that arrived with two small pieces of turkey. Not even worth half the price ! Why they are selling 'Christmas Dinners' without having any apple sauce is a joke too. While looking around the cafe, I noticed that all the other meals that the other diners were having were also small portions as well, yet with the prices they charge, they should be giving the customers much bigger portions.

I like nothing better than popping into Sammie's cafe for lunch on a day off. It's popular and the food and service are very good. I am partial to the turkey and cranberry sandwich and my husband always goes for the ploughman's lunch. I also had courgette soup there one day after I had a dental operation (before anaesthetic wore off). Never had a bad meal yet

On our way to Ripon the other day we stopped here for a bite to eat and what a pleasant experience it was.I had the bacon & brie toastie with a side order of chips and whilst the bacon was slightly overcooked for my taste the brie had melted perfectly, the chips were well cooked and the smattering of salad was nicely dressed so the the overall taste was excellent !My wife had the soup which she walloped!Considering that this is primarily a Garden Centre the cafe was something of a revelation and we will be back the next time we're heading south !

Called today for lunch only a handful of people dining, was very surprised as at lunchtime it used to be quite busy. We ordered 2 ham and cheese paninis, 1 ham and cheese toastie and a toasted tea cake . Paninis had very little filling or taste, toastie was barely toasted but ok and we returned the teacake because it was toasted within an inch of its life and snapped when I picked it up. The next one they brought with apologies about the first one seemed better. Within about a minute it also was dried out and brittle. I managed to eat it with the help of my hot drink. We've been going to Sam turners for a while now both at Piercebridge and Northallerton but we will not be going back to Piercebridge again.

16 of us called for drinks and snacks after a lovely walk. Asked if we could put tables together no problem we also did put them back and found extra chairs. Most of us just had a hot or cold drink but those that treated themselves to cake or cream teas said how nice they where. My hubby and I often call for drink and cake or maybe lunch.SoAt busy times they are a little slow in clearing tables. You will always have a good cuppa.

Been to Sammy's on many occasions over the years, both at Northallerton and their newer Piercebridge outlet and this is the first time I have come away with a feeling of disappointment. We called into the Piercebridge branch today going to the nursery first and came out with an empty basket after seeing the plants (tomatoes, plus a lot of other plants) suffering from a severe lack of water - they all had a definite droop. The café - which we have used on many occasions - we wouldn't say was over busy and we placed our order in the normal way, it wasn't long before the order arrived served by a pleasant young lady. The toasties we ordered were a total disappointment - two pieces of toasted bread with a small amount of Brie and in my case a slice of bacon which must have been cooked some time before we had arrived - the bread was soggy inside and it certainly wasn't what we expected a toastie to be - having had some lovely ones in the past from Sam Turners. There was an awful lot of noise (laughing, giggling and raised voices) coming from the other side of the counter - it certainly wasn't coming from the customer side!!The café itself was nice and clean and the tables rubbed over once cleared, which wasn't too long. The shop area as usual is well maintained with helpful and friendly staff. We believe some rear end kicking should take place here because some staff are letting the side down and the competition will be clapping their hands.

Sam Turner CaféA resent visit to the café at the garden centre during Tuesday afternoon long past lunch We discovered it not to busy so my order was taken without waiting on a pay on order basis, so ordered a toasted teacake bacon sandwich with brown sauce and two individual pots of tea was served strait away (a simple order)?unfortunately only one individual pot was served I pointed this out and this was corrected after a small wait the additions was served the teacake was excellent, the bacon bap served on white bread with a good filling of bacon but had burnt fragments possible pre cooked and reheated?, no brown sauce! after attracting the attention of the waitress after a short wait this was served. We have not visited for a main meal but feel that if a busy period occurs I am sure that many ordering mistakes could crop up leading to delays I understand that the proprietors are considering expanding the Café I am sure that before this is implemented more staff training is required.

called in today and decided to have sunday lunch....so pleased we did. There was beef or chicken as well as pie and lasagne. We both chose the roast beef which was spot on and a huge slice which almost filled the good size plate with a huge yorkshire pudding, mashed potato, roast potatoes, carrots, cauliflower and green beans with lots of lovely gravy all for £7 each.the cafe was very busy with snacks and coffees etc but there were lots of other customers having the sunday lunch so an early visit maybe necessary next time we go.....which will be very soon!
