Visited last summer. As it was a somewhat open kitchen, saw a chef open a packet of sauce with his mouth. Instantly put off. Specially in covid times. Do better.

Brilliant atmosphere and excellent service.

That burger was huge! Lovely food, very polite and engaging staff and a lovely view over the harbour whilst you eat.

Booked to take my mother in law here for her birthday meal, the chef was screaming and cursing in the kitchen, the F word was mentioned a lot, he was throwing his toys out of the pram, we got up and walked out. Terrible attitude on him, we felt sorry for the waitress.

saw the sign outside saying the steak was #1 in torquay so i had to try it. ordered the ribeye and i couldn’t fault it. it was cooked beautifully rare just like i asked, the meat was so soft and tasted beautiful. the staff and particularly the owner were so welcoming and accommodating, 100% recommend if you’re in the area 👍

Service was fantastic, literally could not have been better. Food was delicious. Definitely a highlight of our trip to Torquay.

A great example of a restaurant falling short of it’s potential. Trying to palm off a cheap cut of meat for a rib-eye and not the decency to admit it when confronted. Not even cooked as requested. Filling the plate with chips and salsa won’t disguise bad food chaps! Mozzarella not Parmesan for a Bolognese topping. Recommend customers look elsewhere. Note, this is Sept 2021, there seems to be a previous restaurant with the same name. Perhaps it was good in the past.

Our second visit here and we weren't disappointed the best steak in Torquay by a mile book before if you can it's really busy. I had the 8oz rump steak with port and stilton sauce with vegetables, Cooked to perfection as long as it's open I'll keep going back 10 out 10

Absolutely amazing restaurant! Lovely friendly staff can not fault them ... the two guys front of house fab 👍 our 2nd visit this week. The belly pork is the best we have ever had tastes amazing. Chicken lush and Burger with dirty fries with beef chilli OMG 😍😋 the last visit my daughter had the chocolate brownie! Wow!!!

Staff was rude towards to me regarding a minor mistake on my behalf, I had the pasta with chicken which was £13.95 the sauce didn't even taste like sauce and more so tasted like the chopped up tomatoes you get in tins, lamb shank was absolutely buried in gravy and was more fatty then meaty, would not recommend in the slightest.

Reheated food , limp salad , untrained staff, unfriendly service, dirty toilets , with cracked and broken tiles. Will not be visiting again.

ordered mussels in a cream sauce in which i received 7 mussels with lots of sauce and half a baguette for £22.50. lot of money for very little, asked the waiter how many mussels for a starter , the reply 7 for starter. He then walked with no further explanation reply about 7. Explained I received this amount for main meal

Believe the hype - Best Restaurant in Town We were lucky to book a table for my birthday, I wanted to go to Salt & Pepper as I'd heard so much about their steaks and wanted not only a birthday treat but for my dad too who had a seizure last year and this was going to be his first time out for a meal since so wanted something special & we got this and more! The restaurant was buzzing with families and couples all laughing and having a good time. The music and decor were fresh and really cool. We warmly welcomed and sat on a big table by the bar, our daughter was treated with great care and respect just as we all were. We were given time to get comfortable, and have drinks before ordering. My dad I went for the T-Bone with Stilton sauce and my wife and mum had the Scallops. Our food came and wow! The steaks were cooked to perfection, juicy and full of flavour and the girl's scallops were equally amazing - it was nice to see the size of their meals - not just a few scallops but a serious amount served on a bacon salad - the smiles on their faces said it all! Our daughter had a burger and it too looked mouth watering - really well presented with a special pot of peas done just for her as they're her favourite! I could not fault our meal especially when we finished off with Banoffee Pie! The restaurant is quite open, you can see the kitchen at the back with the bar area all open too - I enjoyed watching everything going on and you could see what a tight team they are - all helping each other, working really hard but with no sign of stress or pressure which is a real credit to the management. We enjoyed ourselves so much we made a point of thanking the chefs and everyone who looked after us and they genuinely looked buzzed that we had enjoyed their food and service so much. Thanks Salt & Pepper for making my birthday night to special:)

We had the baked camembert to start which was delicious, however half of the bread that it came with was so burnt that it was inedible. For the mains, I ordered the tomato and basil pasta and my husband ordered the ribeye steak with veg and new potatoes cooked medium rare. The pasta had no basil in it whatsoever, in fact the sauce literally consisted of nothing other than chopped tomatoes! It was awful. The pasta was sloppy and over cooked and had no flavour. My husband's steak arrived well done. On top of that, it came with salad and chips, instead of the veg and potatoes he'd ordered. We flagged it up and a dish of potatoes and veg were brought out but they were so overdone that the carrots were brown and the broccoli was yellow. We would definitely not return.

We came to Torquay for a little getaway and found this lovely restaurant online. They were welcoming, informative, and friendly when we arrived. The food was amazing, we had king prawns for starters , they were absolutely delicious and a good portion as well. For main, we had steaks, my partner had a Tbone steak, i had an 8oz rump steak, both were fresh, with great tasting sauces, the chips were lovely and crispy but not over done, neither soggy! We will definitely be coming back. Thank you

The restaurant is amazing, the service was top quality and the food was a next level. Me and my partner both had steak but different cuts and cooked differently. Bothe steaks were cooked exactly how we asked for it and it was beautifully seasoned. It was probably the best steak that I have had in a very long time. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone, thoroughly enjoyed my experience!!

We arrived in from a walk along the beautiful harbour, and were intending on getting a carvery. They didn’t have any beers for my partner as their only one on tap was carlsberg, or two bottles of Budweiser. He was then offered a 440ml can of Stella for £3. After drinks we had a look at the carvery which wasn’t appetising, so I went to the bathroom before we left. The bathroom hand dryer was faulty and didn’t work, the soap was open on the top of the bottle rather than a pump so half the bottle went down my hands and into the sink, and the blue roll was Sat soaking beside the sink with numerous peoples finger prints all over it. We will not be returning here.

Lovely little restaurant in Torquay. We were looking for somewhere to have a bit of a late lunch and Salt and Pepper was perfect. We were seated immediately without even booking. Couldn't fault customer service here I had the bbq Pork Belly and it was delicious. It literally melted in my mouth, chips were the right type of crunchy and hot and were lovely. My partner had their fish and chips and they loved it, the fish's batter was light and crispy and you could tell the fish was fresh For dessert i had the sticky toffee pudding and I wont lie it was the best I'd ever had no joke it was delicious My partner had the hot fudge cake and they were obsessed with it and kept wanting to slow themselves down as they were eating it to quickly and didnt want it to be over. Overall delicious food amd excellent customer service. Next time we're in Torquay this is a definite must visit

We went to salt & pepper today for the 1st time today...I had the nicest cavery for a long time! My partners steak was also making my mouth water...he loved it. Staff very busy but welcoming amd looked after us well.Will definitely be going back for more....Thanks guy’s.

Visited after reading the good reviews , visited early evening as a group of 4 . Ordered pizza which was burnt at the bottom and 2 steak dinners both of which were full of fat and gristle , any good chef would not have sent these steaks out . Our check back was done very early , no wonder ! This place is no steakhouse ! Lots of better restaurants in the harbour area to visit . Restaurant is also not as clean as it could be .

Once again we have returned to our favourite restaurant whilst visiting our holiday home.Food was as always was amazing, I had mussels for starters, followed by sirloin steak, medium rare, which was cooked to perfection, my partner had the same.Zoe, the Manager made us very welcome, we were disappointed to miss the owner, but hope to catch up with him in the week.

Not thinking and not booking decided to walk around Torquay to get into a restaurant. After 5 attempts we went into Salt & Peeper. Fully booked but said it was our anniversary they found a table. So pleased they did, great service, quick, polite and within no time starters were here. A nice gap between the main and the belly pork in BBQ turns up. Fantastic meal, then had to force down a desert. Great team especially the lady that squeezed us in thank you.

My family came down to visit so I took them out to Salt and Pepper. The food was amazing. So much so we went back there the following evening, and the one after that. Would really recommend to anyone stopping in Torquay. Staff were amazing too. Not pushy like you get in other restaurants.

When we walked into S&P, I really didn’t expect much - it was early evening (not many other customers yet), and the decor made me think that we were in for an average meal at best. I was certainly wrong. The service was swift and friendly, the food was delicious and once a couple more people had sat down the atmosphere was fine. Can’t say why I had initial not-great impressions. Think it was the decor... I’m certainly glad I didn’t judge the book by its cover and stayed to enjoy the evening!

Hugely impressed yet again with our food, we come on holiday every year to Devon, and every year since salt and pepper opened by the harbour in 2017 we have come to salt and pepper ! We keep coming back because it’s just that good ! Highly recommend and will be back again without doubt next year! Also Tony is the guy & Finally the Salt and pepper chicken is amazing!!

Best steak I've had for a long time, staff excellent

Pre-booked prior to travel based on reviews on here. Staff were welcoming and we were sat all together (7 people). Wasn't busy even though it was on an eat out to help out night. Some of us were disappointed with our meals. 2 of the steaks were quite gristly and fatty with one being undercooked and sent back, the caesar salad was swimming in sauce and no croutons. Disappointing and wouldn't return

We booked for a Friday in August for lunch and we are glad we did.Really friendly service and the food was better than expectations - which were already high based on trip advisor! I have walked past this restaurant dozens of times and never really paid attention to it. The inside is quite dimly lit and the entranceway doesn't scream curbside appeal - which makes it even more of a hidden gem. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting torbay, but also to us locals - i know I'll be returning.

Visited it on Sunday, we choosed it as it wasn't too busy (just can't stand too many people :D). The food was nice, I had a lamb shank - cannot complain - portion is big enough, everything was served quickly and the staff are friendly and welcoming, no bullshiting, just straight to the point, I quiet liked the whole experience. My family of 7 arrived late in Torquay and struggled to find somewhere to eat. Stumbled across Salt & Pepper and we were all very pleased we did. Staff were very welcoming and accommodating. Busy place but they adhered to covid guidelines. Every meal was well presented, good size meals that were delicious. Staff were attentive to customers and after a 4 hour drive, this restaurant was the perfect end to our first day in Torquay. Im a fussy diner but can honestly say I couldn't find a fault. Children's meals ranged from chicken nuggets and sausages. Adults ranged from salt & pepper prawns, steak and chicken... Yummy desserts! Everyone was very happy with their choices. This will definitely be our go to place during the rest of our stay. Good job S&P team!

this restaurant was wonderful, the staff are attentive and friendly, we had a large family celebration and they made us all feel special. the food was truly delicious and not a morsel was left. they catered for our young children too. all in all we cannot fault this place. it was a great evening and we are definitly going again and highly reccommmend it.

I have booked the table at Salt & Pepper purely because everywhere else was fully booked. As a visitor place from outside looks like a standard pub not very welcoming and the gentleman who took my booking did not sound like one either. Surprisingly inside the restaurant looks lovely and spotlessly clean! There is also a private dining room which is a plus If you're looking into booking for family dinner. As soon as I have stepped in the same person who took my booking have greeted us at the door - not very polite. After observing staff I'm assuming was the owner. No drinks menu.. I'm sorry Mr Owner but will take you 10 minutes to do one and saves your staff to remember everything. Unfortunately, our table was not set and the chair was missing. The young waitress was ready to go when my partner made her aware there is no chair to sit on. Received the starters after 45 mins wait. Main dishes arrived quicker. Food delicious and good portions for its size. Only the one waiter stopped and asked if we would like anything else or more drinks, the rest of the staff stood in the corner waiting for the kitchen to ring a bell. The restaurant was not as busy when we came and there were about 6 members of staff serving customers so surely there are no excuses for this customer service we have received. If I would have to rate only the customer service will be 1 star but as long I'm satisfied with what's on my plate I'm leaving as a Happy customer. Will I go back? My partner says no, I say yes Mr Owner because you are running a great restaurant and serving really tasty food. A little bit of decor outside and customer service training - and your place will be one of the best restaurants in Torquay.

Great food, great service, helpful friendly staff 10/10

Food was beautiful although a little high cost but your paying for the location. Most staff happy and friendly. One middle aged bold waiter rather grumpy, walking away as we answered questions. I witnessed him doing this with everyone, asking a question and looking in the other direction. Some training required here.

Rocked up at 5:45 with no booking and manager said come back in 45 mins for table. In the current climate & because it was a Monday in August ( eat out to help out) I actually didn’t expect to get a table with 6 in the party but he squeezed us in. Glad he did; Mussels were lovely. Staff were fab. Unfortunately can’t remember the names of the two that served us but credit to restaurant. Server was great with 2 kids in the party and even went away and gave us a drink that wasn’t on the menu. Staff were friendly and instantly made us all feel very welcome. We had a variety of dishes, one of my party is very picky and not easily impressed but even he went away satisfied. A very nice dining experience....... we’ll be back

Well what can I say, we turned up at 7.30pm after being recommended to come here from locals, with no table booked, the restaurant was extremely busy and I wasn’t hopeful that we would get a table, but the amazing staff tried their very best to get us in, and within half an hour we had a great table. The atmosphere was brilliant, the staff were fantastic, especially with my 3 year old little boy who insisted on telling the lady waitresses that he loved them, and as for the food, it was absolutely amazing the best steak we have ever had, it literally melted in your mouth. The menu has lots of options at a great price, greats drinks menu and the services was very quick. My husband, my 2 children, and myself left feeling very full up, and very happy. Nothing I can fault. Was perfect. Highly recommend.

With restrictions as they are we struggled to book a table anywhere in Torquay Saturday evening. This fab restaurant managed to squeeze us in and we had the most amazing eating experience. Seafood special and the bbq belly pork were both excellent. Would highly recommend. Good drinks selection too. We didn't have room for dessert! Great staff made our anniversary dinner a lovely one!

As a party of 9 adults and 4 children, including 2 in wheelchairs and 1 pram we were finding it very difficult to find a place to eat in Torquay until we found this restaurant, the staff were so helpful and friendly getting us tables and helping to get my elderly parents in, and the food was hot tasty and excellent value, it was so nice we returned again a couple of days later and again they found us a table at very late notice in their private dining room and once again the service and food were excellent, especially the steaks! this was our last night in Torquay but I would recommend this restaurant to anyone, and if we return to Torquay we will definitely be calling there to eat!

We come to Torquay a few times a year and we were looking for something to hae for lunch when we happened across this place and decided to take a gamble.OMG what a find!! So pleased to have found it!Food was excellent - I’m a massive steak fan and my goodness I was NOT disappointed! Beautifully cooked and the sauce was incredible, the waitress (Zoe) was exceptional snd greeted us so enthusiastically which was lovely, she couldn’t have been more pleasant if she burst and was amazing with my little boy who is a total flirt at 4yrs old!Ok yes it is a little pricey but you won’t be disappointed! We’re absolutely coming back without question and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them

Visited on the 14th Aug 2020 for our anniversary the staff are friendly and accommodating food was awesome we had pizza this time what can I say they were delicious I've had steak which was great.. one of the best restaurants in the bay in my opinion owner is a really nice guy will use it again thanks salt n pepper for a great evening

Steak was lovely. That's the best comment I could leave. Frozen food wholesalers did very well with everything else. Don't expect to find a wine/ drinks menu letting you know how much you will be charged.. don't expect to find a dessert menu letting you know how much you will be charged either! Don't bother asking for mustard with your steak, they don't offer it. Friendly, attentive service but little atmosphere.

Definitely one of the better restaurants in Torquay, food and service was great. Recommend the salt and pepper chicken and the salt and pepper prawns.
