The negative reviews and the AI summary do not get this place. This is an innovative chef, with a small team delivering an amazing food experience. I'd rate this restaurant along with Five Fields in London and Astrance in Paris - both small restaurants with small, dedicated teams delivering great food. Of course the portions are small - this is a seven course tasting menu. There are about 28 covers, each served each course at about the same time - within a span of 5 - 10 minutes - very efficiently and with a very friendly attitude. At 120 pounds, the menu is reasonably priced. A good wine list, again at reasonable prices. All the people we chatted with were all very positive, and it was a repeat visit for several of them.

We had a lovely evening with great service but can’t help feeling quite disappointed - it just didn’t match up to other restaurants at this price point that we’ve been fortunate to experience. The menu was creative and interesting, with good pairings and plenty of different textures. The food was, however, mostly very rich, several courses were very salty, and all were of very similar flavours. Everything was nice but nothing was “wow”. I was also disappointed to see veal on the set menu given the ethical concerns around veal. I had a gorgeous white wine and an ok red. There was a couple next to us getting quite loud and tipsy which, given how close together the tables are, meant that we could barely hear ourselves talking. The restaurant was also a little cold. Overall we are glad to have tried it but we wouldn’t really recommend or go back. A bit disappointing given the price and also just surprising overall that the restaurant has a Michelin star (other than for the service, which really was excellent).

Well, it's a nice place but I'd expect more. We booked our dinner for 18:30 but in fact there was the only session for everyone started at 19:30 so for us it meant we spent 1 hour just waiting and having our aperitif. Not bad but worth mentioning. The food itself was good but definitely not extraordinary. The presentation was just ok, for some courses the balance was not right (for example tasteless cod with strong salty chicken sauce), for some the amount of salt was excessive, especially when the chef added even more salt right before presenting. 2 desserts looked pretty the same. The fig leaf sorbet had very subtle taste but it was absolutely muted by over sweet chocolate delice

After a bit of digging, this restaurant has lost it's Michelin star, however still has it on their website and seems to be pricing dishes at this level still. Felt a bit deceitful that its still on the website despite not still possessing the accolade. Have now booked the Royal Oak down the road instead, which ACTUALLY has a Michelin star accreditation...

Well where should I start I was given a voucher worth £150 from my work colleagues as a wedding gift which we were so excited to receive as a colleague know my husband is what’s commonly known as a bit of a foody, he loves to cook so this was a pleasant change for him not to cook! Salt makes booking a table very difficult and I had tried to reserve a table on about 10/12 occasions which one of my colleagues can verify as it was her that suggested the vouchers, Salt release a few dates at a time and you can’t book in advance, trying to book a Saturday dinner was literally impossible and when there are special nights you can’t use the vouchers! I decided to try to ring Salt numerous times with no joy! I then emailed them to ask for help as my voucher was due to expire and I didn’t want to loose out! I eventually heard from Paul after a couple of days and was told in no uncertain terms that he would not extend my vouchers and virtually called me a liar!!Needless to say I was very disappointed and just want people to review some of the reviews on here, Paul as a business owner is very arrogant and rude and I’m surprised his business survives at all!!

Just fantastic. salt currently only offers a chef's table experience. You begin downstairs with a drink and some light snacks, then proceed upstairs to a ten-seat table where you'll watch and talk with the chef whilst the tasting menu is prepared and served. This is a three-and-a-half hour dining experience - go in expecting that. Delicious food, charming & attentive service, an absolute gem. The wine pairing was excellent too.

We had a lovely, incredibly intimate dinner at the chefs table upstairs. Laura was fantastic, as were the two waiters. Everyone was fun and chatty, whilst producing incredible and very detailed food. Watching Laura was a real treat and an insight into the skill involved, she explained the amount of time prepping they spend to get ready for the weekend and you appreciate why it is the price it is. It is an unusual experience, so probably won't suit everyone, you need to be able to appreciate watching your food be produced and be interested in the process, and be happy chatting to the people on the experience with you and the chef (it was just one other couple for our dinner who we loved getting to know), i guess you could sit there silently but it'd be odd to choose to do that. We loved it, and had the opportunity to have a little nose at some of the kitchen equipment, ask lots of questions, take away some ideas and just generally have an amazing evening! It's a great concept and we have recommended to all our friends who like food/cooking/fine dining.

The food was exquisite and was served in a relaxed manner. Most of our evening was taken up by watching the chef prepare each course so we were there for about two and a half hours, but this suited us. It was very quiet on a Friday evening with only one other party of four in, and at least five staff. The experience wasn’t cheap at £360 by the end of the evening. We had only had two glasses of wine between us and tap water. However, it was an experience I can recommend as it was relaxing and the tastes were amazing.

My first 1 star review for a restaurant, certainly didn’t expect it to be Salt. A brief look through the reviews and you'll see a common theme of utterly shocking customer service when it comes to cancellations. We had to cancel due to illness with short notice at which point Salt told us they would take the cancellation fee off the voucher we had. Which I completely understand. They then refused the option they themselves wanted and proceeded to charge our credit card. They are now refusing to take the fee off the voucher. We had a similar late cancellation situation at The Cross in Kenilworth, we were fully expecting and prepared to pay the fee when they offered to rebook us at no charge. Completely took us by surprise and left a wonderful impression. I understand the need for cancellation charges, but be prepared to have T&Cs thrown in your face when asking for reasonable adjustments- like charging the fee to the voucher. Not the kind of language you'd expect from a starred establishment. We'll stick with The Cross.

We visited Salt with friends who regularly dine at Michelin star restaurants, so it with them in mind we booked. It is quite a dull space with very little atmosphere and whilst our waitress was incredibly smiley, any other staff we saw looked utterly miserable. We had a nice seat in the window and had called prior to booking to see what foods were likely to be available for myself as a vegetarian and were told the options which were viewable online at the point of booking would still be an option when we visited. Because of my dietary requirements our friends and my husband were unable to have the taste menu which was a shame for them but we were all happy to make our orders around this. The waitress was smiley and helpful but couldn’t say what vegetarian options were available so I checked online myself and asked if the risotto on there was still an option and she realised it was, which was a little odd that I had to go online and look for the options myself. I appreciate that vegetarians are not restauranteurs favourite guests but I have had some incredible meals from very well known chefs over the years. Unfortunately we decided to leave the restaurant after our starters. We each received them as the other party member finished until finally just one of us remained after three of us had finished and his starter was still not out. We asked what was going on and were instantly told it was the waitress's fault for not explaining that they serve food “tapas” style, which according to Salt means you get your food at totally different times. Oddly, anytime we have eaten tapas that literally means lots of small plates at the same time so their explanation didn’t really suffice and we got the bill and left. There is a disappointing arrogance to restaurants that cannot just say I’m sorry you have been disappointed. The food was nice but nothing exceptional and we were just not prepared to pay upwards of hundreds of pounds where they would choose to blame colleagues for untimely service. Just an unnecessary and odd stance to take, it certainly turned us off the place. We have a similar aged daughter who waitresses and with her in mind decided the way they behaved wasn’t for us. The Michelin star awarded to Salt was deleted this year and after experiencing the place for ourselves that came as no surprise. Edit post Paul’s response: As you can see from Paul’s adorable response, which he regularly takes the time to do, this is the kind of restaurant owner you are dealing with. White girl drunk, wow! Work on yourself Paul, you are a very angry man with a bad restaurant and no Michelin star! For the record, we were absolutely not offered a vegetarian tasting menu and did not have the way the food was brought out explained. And a staff member used the word tapas, not me. Also, I think the term chav is a little dated. It goes without saying we wouldn’t want to come back. Also, my review was originally 2 stars for the one member of staff who was pleasant, I’ve changed it to 1, another star you’ve lost this year Paul.

Tucked away from the hustle and bustle, this gem of a restaurant is a serene escape from the hustle and bustle outside. The restaurant's confidence shines through in its unfussy approach to dining. There are no extravagant displays or over-the-top presentations here; instead, the focus is squarely on the flavors. In a world where bigger often seems to be equated with better, it's refreshing to find a restaurant that is content to let its flavors do the talking. If you're looking for a dining experience that is quietly confident and utterly delicious, look no further than this hidden gem.

Salt in Stratford upon Avon is a real gem! It’s this cozy little place with a laid-back vibe, but don’t let that fool you – the food is seriously top-notch. I mean, it’s got a Michelin star, so you know it’s good, right? The chefs there are like artists, turning simple ingredients into these amazing dishes that are just bursting with flavor. The staff are super friendly and make you feel right at home. They’re always up for a chat and really know their stuff when it comes to the menu. Speaking of the menu, it changes all the time, which is pretty cool because it means you can try something new with each visit. And the wine list? It’s not your usual fare – they’ve got some really interesting choices that pair perfectly with the food. Now, it’s not the cheapest place around, but you’re paying for quality. Plus, it’s in such a cute part of town, right near all the Shakespeare stuff, which makes it perfect for a special night out. Honestly, I can’t recommend Salt enough. It’s the kind of place you go to and immediately start planning your next visit before you’ve even finished your meal. Total must-try! 🍽️✨

Visited for dinner, was greeted by friendly and welcoming staff. We did the tasting menu and were excited to see what the restaurant had to offer. I really enjoyed the restaurant, and found the staffs personalities to be some of my favourite parts of the dinner. We had a special evening trying the menu. The food is incredibly well plated, with some beautiful technique and interesting colours. I found, however, some of the flavours did not match the aesthetics off the dishes overall. We also had empty aperitif glasses along with empty gin bottles on the table for about 4 courses, which I had to ask to be taken after they had been ignored each time. It unfortunately took away from the experience to have our table resemble a pub. We also had to provide a polite reminder to receive the wine we had ordered after waiting a quite a number of courses. Although it is not a deal breaker, this is not the level of attentiveness expected from a restaurant of this calibre. Overall, friendly staff and attractive dishes, but I found the flavours to lack creativeness and the attentiveness could be improved.

Upon doing some research on places to eat in Stratford upon Avon, the Salt came up several times and based on the reviews we made a booking. And we were so pleased we did. The atmosphere and decor was very welcoming and the staff friendly and professional. As for the food it was one of the best meals we have ever had. We opted for the four course Winter Menu which was priced at £65 pp and also included nuts, olives and breads. Plus the most divine chocolates at the end of the meal. This was a truly amazing dining experience and reasonably priced which makes a change. Would definitely recommend and we hope to return when we visit again next year.

I took my mum here for mother's day lunch (well the Thursday after) we arrived about 30 mins early but the friendly staff had no problems seating us straight away. Our server brought us some water for the table and took our drinks order. We chose to have the 6 course taster menu with the lamb main and shortly after the food started to arrive. We sat in the back by the kitchen and I got to watch the chefs preparing the meals. There was no panic everything was calm and they really looked as though they were enjoying it as much as I was ☺️ At no point did we feel rushed and had plenty of time to enjoy each course. Our server explained each course so we knew exactly what we were having. The food was exquisite. I especially enjoyed the home made bread and butter, the cod dish was amazing as was the carrot course, which I admit, I wasn't expecting. If I had to pick out one course to put on a pedestal it had to be the rhubarb and custard dessert. On my first taste of this I floated away in my own world. The chef that made this dish needs to have a special bonus because that was out of this world. The flavours and textures were perfect. BRAVO!!! Overall the whole experience was a delight. Would I go back, definitely. Would I recommend it to friends and family, definitely (already have). A fantastic experience from start to finish.

We had visited Salt quite a few years ago and were thouroughly impressed by both the food and the atmosphere. I booked a table for my wife's birthday four months in advance, making it clear in the reservation that one of our party can't have lactose. Two days before the reservation someone from Salt called to say that everything they serve contains lactose and they 'don't cater for that'. Had they told me that when I made the reservation, I would have still found it a slightly odd stance in this day and age, but that is their choice. But two days before the dinner, it left me desperately scrambling for a different special dinner for my wife's birthday. Unacceptable.

I posted my genuine view of the restaurant as a 1 star, to which they replied with an insult about a “sad little troll I am since they have no information on me” I’ve never experienced such an uncomfortable atmosphere - who said the booking was in my name Salt ?!?! I've wanted to dine at Salt for a long long time and today thanks to wonderful and generous friends we did. First obviously, the food. Excellent!! We had the 4 course set menu and my palate was singing from the outset. The bread, potato starter, cod were beautiful, but the outstanding course for me, and it truly was outstanding was the squab pigeon, cooked to perfection, the sauce was incredible, thank you Head Chef Laura and sous chef Harry (who's brains I picked for the jus), and not forgetting Fin the pastry chef for the dessert, exquisite! The food and wine though are only part of the experience, front of house needs to be spot on also and THEY were. Nico, Kirsty and Aimie were excellent, they explained the food andwine like any maitre d' would/should. Excellent food, service and experience, I/we will certainly be back 5*'s all the way. All the hard work by the chefs and waiting staff was completely undone by the arrogant, uncompromising, unsympathetic restaurant manager, which made our 3 hour dinner one of the most uncomfortable experiences I have ever had in my entire life. We arrived slightly earlier than our reservation, expecting to be offered a cocktail whilst we waited.. Nothing of the sort. We felt we were getting in the way as they prepared for service, so we went to the pub across the road for 20 minutes and had a drink there instead. When we eventually sat down for dinner it transpired that the only menu available was the valentines set menu at £95 pp. We were at least expecting to be able to choose something smaller from an à la carte menu for our 7 year old. Nope. This place did NOT cater for children on our visit!! The manager flatly pointed out that it was my mistake and that their website clearly stated that the valentines set menu was the only one available. Obviously it was not clear enough to me. Had I known I wouldn't have reserved a table. The manager gave us no choice but to pay £95 for my 7 year old, who barely touched anything. We would have had to pay for it regardless of if they served it or not. I don't know who this manager thinks they are, or what they think they have in this establishment, but it won't last long with service like that. Absolutely appalling! I literally felt like I'd been mugged. The manager will probably reply to this review and refer back to their terms and conditions, like the jobsworth they were on the night, but I'll point out that it says 'we have the right to charge', which would imply that there is scope for compromise. It doesn't say 'you will be charged no matter what'. The £95 for my child could have been waived and the food not served. Hell, I might have been willing to swallow a £54 cancellation fee for my child's meal, but nope, the manager wanted it all. Had they compromised, I would more than likely have spent at least £95, if not more, on drinks.. This manager belongs in a Nando's or something of the like. They should be nowhere near a fine dining restaurant. It would appear that the manager's arrogance is on full display in their replies to some of the negative reviews here. I am expecting a similar response to this review. Anyone with an ounce of empathy would have treated us in a different way entirely, like the restaurant we went to the following day, The Coach, Marlow. They accommodated us and our young child without any fuss whatsoever, even to the point of providing an off menu desert, without any problem. The difference in experience was like night and day. EDIT: Your sarcastic response does nothing but prove my point. I was not in any way shape or form rude. You are the chef/ owner but we never saw you all night, so how would you know I was rude, apart from one of your staff members telling lies? Yes I was upset and very surprised by the hardline approach, but I was never rude. It's difficult to enjoy a meal when you feel like you've been extorted. No one even apologised, just recited your Ts&Cs. I wasn't even expecting an a la carte menu for myself, just the ability to choose something smaller for our child. I was in fact looking forward to trying your tasting menu.. Nowhere on your website does it say "we do not cater for children". When I booked the table there was no provision to indicate a child would be present. You didn't need to charge the £95 to cancel our 7 year old's meal, but the fact that you did speaks volumes. I'm not the only person to point out how terrible your restaurant is, hiding behind your Ts&Cs and with ZERO compromise. You say I'm rude and entitled, yet just look at your response to all the negative reviews. You simply can't take any criticism. Anyone with an ounce of humility would take it on board and do better. Anyone who walks through your door is entitled to have an opinion about their experience and this is mine. There's no point telling me to never come to your establishment ever again, as that's a given...

Excellent 7 course tasting menu at Salt. A leisurely evening when we weren't rushed through the courses and every course was explained to us by really friendly and attentive staff who were not intrusive. The menu consisted of 5 set course and two which had two choices. The taste combinations were exciting and everything from the little taster bites to the gorgeous desserts were beautifully presented and an explosion of flavours. My favourites were the little mushroom toasts to start and the cod with cocoa beans and a sauce split with lovage oil and the venison was melt in the mouth. My husband loved the sweetbreads with almonds as he rarely finds them on the menu. It was not cheap at £115 a head which is more than any other tasting menu we have had in the last twelve months and we spent just over £300 but it was a great evening.

Repeatedly tried to call - no answer. Answer phone said to email. Emailed and no response for 5 days. Visited in person to find it closed, despite their Google business page showing it open. Thai restaurant next door said they’re closed on school holidays… A reply a week later from this business says that the information of closure was available on a page on their website… not their homepage, not their answer phone, and not Google. If you have a gift voucher, seems you’ll have to plan months in advance to use it. Money down the drain. Would have hoped a ‘Michelin’ starred restaurant would have the basics of customer communication clear. Reply to the owner: Sadly, there was nothing ‘clear’ about the website. Unless you navigated to a random page, there was nothing clear about opening times/dates. ‘Clear’ would have been a simple banner with on the homepage. The most obvious comms opportunities were missed - and seeing as the owner can access their business Google account in replying, a shame no one could take the few minutes to mark the business as ‘closed’ on the world’s biggest search engine… ‘Google’…

Fantastic experience. Wonderful staff who were so welcoming and really made us feel at home. Food was beautiful, not everyone liked every dish equally but all really interesting. Highlights were the 11 year old bread, the carrots (unbelievably good), the best beef we have ever had, and the fudge. The paired wines were great, and we were given just the right amount of information about them. We brought a dog who was also made welcome. Highly recommended.

We have visited all of the Michelin starred restaurants in Warwickshire and most of those in West Mids over the past year and chose the best one to return to at Christmas, my wife and I quickly decided that was Salt. This restaurant is pleasantly informal but intensely professional in every thing they do. The front-of-house staff are outstanding and food is off-the-scale brilliant. We spent well over 3 hours enjoying 8 plates of perfection from the tasting menu. The wine pairings hit the spot every time and 2 of the dishes were the best I have ever tasted. Heard many mixed reviews about the “salt” experience and a few things about the management. From what I’ve heard from both the owner & management they are arrogant and think having a star to their restaurant is a personality trait…allot of this is shown from the replies from reviews from others experience within the establishment .Now let’s talk about food… I mean it’s great but not all that exciting, could be allot better seeing as it is a Michelin star! Service… the explanations of the dishes I wish where a bit more in detail explaining where the food was from when questioned where the venison was they employed had no clue and couldn’t explain more , a bit shocking seeing as that was the main course!! The team within the kitchen looked miserable and seeing as they where the on show for all the restaurant to see you would have thought they would have been a bit cheerful and looked like they wanted to be there! The toilets had a bit so pleasant smell to and when bringing this up witha member of staff, and they reasurred my it would be intended to, but to my surprise it was not. Seeing as this is the only Michelin star within stratford I expected allot better, but didn’t have high hopes from what the rest I heard .

I had booked Salt weeks ago to celebrate my Wife’s birthday. We had heard & read such good reviews about the restaurant that we thought it would be the perfect day to enjoy the special day . How very wrong we were . My Wife sadly became very unwell with the winter flu bug , so reluctantly we came to the decision to postpone the booking until the new year so we would both be fit & healthy to enjoy it properly. I tried phoning the restaurant before sending them an email explaining our decision & that I would be re-booking in January 2024 . Under their terms & conditions it did state that any cancellations within 48 hours would incur a payment of £35.00 per person to cover food costs . I then tried to phone on 4 more occasions to explain that we would love to re-book . However it went to their answer machine every time . Reluctantly I decided to drive 25miles to the premises to have the opportunity to discuss our dilemma face to face . On arrival I was greeted by a very polite female staff who after hearing my defence then asked another member of staff to talk to me . This member Aurelien then listened again before explaining their company policy of not transferring a booking date & that the £70.00 would not be refunded, even though I had explained it would be more advantageous to simply take that payment off my bill when I would eventually return. He flatly refused this & again reiterated their stance of covering food costs . I could tell by his demeanour that whatever I said wasn’t going to make any difference whatsoever. So a complete cancellation of the booking was going to be my only option.for a small restaurant that has taken years to achieve a Michelin star rating, their attitude towards a paying customer in times that are effecting everybody with the cost of living crisis, baffled & disappointed me . I felt completely let down by their service & I explained I would be taking my custom somewhere else . As I left I realised I hadn’t got his name so returned to ask him his name . At this point I was physically touched by another member of staff who then verbally threatened to hit me if I didn’t leave . This was on a Saturday lunchtime in front of other diners . Shocking behaviour by management & I was personally scared of my wellbeing now . I was then ordered to leave the premises which I did , but how can this behave acceptable in such an upmarket eatery . I’m sure the owner Paul Foster who has built this restaurant up to what it is today would be horrified by their actions . It takes years to build a reputation, yet can take minutes to ruin it . Shame on Salt.

Not all that great . Managers seem to be rushing round the restaurant making it a restless atmosphere & not what I was expecting from a Michelin star.

Went there last weekend and had a very pleasant meal. The set taster menu offers a good variety of food and some very tasty courses. The highlights for us were the carrot cooked in chicken fat and the egg yolk with butternut squash and beer fried onions (both taste far better than they sound). The wine menu is varied and very reasonably priced based on our experience of similar restaurants. Service was flawless from the moment we entered to when we left. Everyone was friendly and service was with a smile, and plenty of jokes and conversation which again is not always the case in high end restaurants so it was very welcomed. I would highly recommend this restaurant and hope to visit again in the future

We enjoyed a special occasion here at Salt, and I've got to say from start to finish it hit the special occasion spot and impressed throughout. After seeing Paul Foster on James Martin show, it brought us here for an evening of gastronomic art. We were seated at front of house, quieter and more intimate. The menu (enclosed) compromised of carefully selected local produce, matched with an intense taste and texture exploration. Every course that came out was explained. The servers were fantastic and interested in their work. All of the courses offered flavours and matchings you would come to expect, I absolutely loved the chicken fat and crispy skin with carrot accompaniment, the lamb with cauliflower jus and charred sweetbreads....even the apple and blackberry came out with a delicious ice cream. We were offered a starter of home made bread and such a creamy butter, I wouldn't be surprised if that was freshly made too!? We sat at 7.30pm and had the table for the night, every course was paced just right and we chose our own wine to compliment each dish. This for us is a truly amazing experience! I think there's precious few restaurants that offer this, plus they do offer a chef's table - maybe something to think about next time - but you really do get what you pay for and this is high class fine dining without the pretentiousness....it was on a level most can understand and I think Mr Foster has gotten the balance exactly where it needs to be. There'll be a rotating menu, with seasonal produce so perhaps some will be more or less palatable for you, but if you have the time and money I urge you to book up for a venture into a different culinary world.... Oh, and ps....we swung by the next day and they were obviously having a team meeting with notepad.....I like to see this, it appears there's a happy team and this shines through in the food exhibited! A very special night, thank you...

This was my first experience at a Michelin Star restaurant, so I don't have any frame of comparison... but it was incredible! The service was fantastic, staff were friendly welcoming, and kindly talked us through the process and explained each meal in detail. The food itself was absolutely amazing. There was one course that wasn't to my preference, but that was just my own taste as everyone else loved it. The food was both incredibly tasty and beautiful, and although each dish is small I was so full by the end of the meal that I could barely move 😂. The restaurant is small but very pretty, and it was very clean - I was so confident in the cleanliness levels that I would have happily eaten off the table (not that I needed to obviously) and normally the idea of that would gross me out. It was a tad colder in the room than I would have liked, so if you are sensitive to the cold then make sure to bring a cardigan. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a memorable night out, and I cannot wait for a chance to go back again.

I took my BFF to Salt to celebrate her forthcoming 50th birthday - going for an experience rather than any other form of gift. And it hit the spot perfectly. As many others have written, the experience starts from when you walk through the door. The people involved are all incredibly friendly and knowledgeable and clearly have a passion for what they do. We had the four courses plus cheese and it was 'just enough'. I always worry about tasting menus as sometimes the portions are skimpy, but that isn't the case here. My friend and I both agreed that each course was well thought out and balanced. Our least favourite was the potato one, but that's said in light of the others being exceptional. It isn't a cheap place to eat, so would be a 'treat' for a special occasion. I'm pleased that we have been there and would go back in a heartbeat.

My husband booked this restaurant for my birthday celebration. The staff were super friendly but there was a lady who was cleaning the bar at the front with a sprayer while we were eating our dinner. I found this very unprofessional and disturbing. Food was good but non of the dishes were surprising! I must say that I was very disappointed with my dessert. The birthday card was a nice gesture of the restaurant.

Charlie Chaplin once said “the saddest thing I can imagine would be to get used to luxury” (or something like that!). A few years ago our experience at Salt would have blown my mind, which was not quite the case. Having been lucky enough to visit a number of excellent fine dining restaurants in recent years one could easily become blasé or fussy - something I have tried to keep in mind in composing this review. There are plenty of real positives here. The service was friendly, efficient and helpful. The pace of service (not infrequently a problem with tasting menus) was just right - a little over 3 hours from start to end. The high-octane fast-talking sommelier clearly loved his work, explaining the flight of wines (which were served in generous portions and all suitably chosen) with enthusiasm and in a lot of detail!. Some of the food was excellent. A couple of the other dishes, although pleasant and clearly cooked to a high standard, we found a little less exciting, perhaps lacking the memorable flavour sensations that we have experienced elsewhere. Presentation was very nice, although a slight obsession with using bowls rather plates might be reviewed. Being able to see the chef patron and his sous chef at work was interesting - but oddly their rather sullen demeanour and interaction with one another (hardly any sign that they were enjoying themselves at any point) ended up detracting a little from my enjoyment of the evening. Overall, it was a fine meal, in a lovely setting, and we could see why Michelin awarded a star.

We dined at Salt on a Saturday evening. It’s a restaurant that we’ve wanted try for a number of years, so we grabbed the opportunity with a table for two almost in front of the open kitchen in the larger of the two rooms As it was a weekend we had the full tasting menu and opted for the wine flight to match . Both were excellent the food was beautifully presented and full of flavour. The wines matched perfect with each course Service was friendly, attentive and relaxed which worked really well and made for a great night out

Take my money! really enjoyable 6 course lunch menu. Wife had the wine pairing option, I tasted each as I was driving, paired perfectly with the set menu, informative brief given on each wine. Service was exceptional, attentive, great synergy and timing throughout, 4 separate staff served us in total. All courses were delicious, our favourites was the Irish beef, tart starter, smoked potato dish and the pickled carrot dish, exquisite presentation for all dishes. Sat for 2.5 hrs, which was perfect, went by in a blink of eye, never felt like we were waiting for anything. We thought it was very good value for money, highly recommend, definitely returning.

A four course menu was costed at £65. No choices were offered or potential for substitution from another menu. The first course was a very small potato and the second was half an onion. These were cooked in unusual ways but the portions were very small, especially the potato. The onion was not pleasant. The restaurant made it clear that if customers did not like a course no alternative would be offered. The fish course was well cooked but was a small portion. The highlight of the meal was the dessert which was good, as was the wine. It seemed clear that the restaurant regarded customers' opinions as of no account: if they did not like the food that was the customers' problem and there would be no replacement. Overall, poor value and attitude from a restaurant with a Michelin star.

I understand the no show policy but we turn up and spent on expensive wine & are bill was over £400 and they still charged me £55 for my son this is just arrogance because they hold a Michelin star. Now the food it was average had a lot better in a normal restaurant pork snatching was soft food not hot wine was warm had to keep asking for ice. Restaurant was dark & grubby needs freshening up. The toilets are dirty & smelly needs to be refitted. The ladies was out of order. Stay away. Go to a main stream restaurant don’t get ripped off. I told the French manager I was going to leave a bad review & he said he didn’t care well let’s hope they run the new restaurant in Camden a lot better.stay away 👎👎👎👎👎

First 2 courses v.good but after eating scallops my wife started to feel unwell and sweetbreads with black garlic was not good and even the smell made my wife feel worse. We asked them to hold main course but after 10 minutes my wife felt she had to get home in case of sickness in the restaurant. Immediately we said we had to leave we were presented with full bill and no commiserations or even a small incentive to return given. I accepted to pay full bill but thought perhaps a voucher for a proportion might be a nice gesture. Nothing was forthcoming and we were ushered out swiftly.
