Lovely restaurant great atmosphere. I had tandoori chicken sag, one of the best I have ever had and finish the whole dish something I hardly ever do. The staff couldn’t do enough for us. The wine was wonder. Complementary drink a nice touch. Will be back.

Was told the food was medium spice but was extra hot. Would be great if they could maybe make a mild dish because I do love the food but to to spicy for me and child. Ask the lady about the specials offer on the window she snapped at me and said I don't know bout this one meaning the offer and totally dismissed me like I wasn't even a customer. The young girl serving me was so nice but as for the older lady completely opposite.

We ordered on a supporting site which we won’t use again. What we will be doing is ordering direct! It was delicious! We had the chicken tikka and kebabs for stater the chicken was soft and tasty and with the salad and mint sauce was yummy. I had chicken tikka masala which was amazing and not greasy like so many curries I’ve had. My partner as a lamb bhuna and said it was the best he has had! We also ordered plain rice and a Peshawar nana which was the only disappointment it was completely flat and didn’t have that coconut sweet taste you would expect. Having said that it was delicious and we will definitely use the again.

Salim's near the west end of Turnpike Lane is probably the only north London outpost of the curry cafes you find in East London and the East End, so has little or no competition for miles. The microwaved precooked curries are from counter bins and have the usual homogenized taste, but are very passable for all that, and are served by friendly staff. The 7-inch long juicy lamb sheek kebabs are especially good, much better than the small dry apologies we find in Indian restaurants; I buy a job lot for the freezer. The kebabs, tandoori chicken and chicken tikka, tend to be a bit over salty. The curries come in medium and large sizes; the plain meat mediums, with typically 20 pieces of meat (lamb) is enough for two portions. The side dishes, such as mixed vegetable and saag aloo tend to be a bit oily. The plastic curry cartons, once washed, are good for multiple freezer and microwave use. Nans are made fresh... have them as a kebab roll for an inexpensive filling meal. This style of takeway (there is a dining area at the back), was previously much cheaper than the typical Indian restaurant, but today are about the same price and without the ambience, and with most cooking not from fresh. I always recommend Salim's, but you could miss it as it's pretty inconspicuous and unlit, and remember they close at 10pm, sometimes before. There is a pay and display bay close by; the rest is double yellow line.

Having journeyed some 15 miles here from the west .....Salim's curry fame certainly reigns supreme. I had to try to believe....and indeed it lives up to its name! A small cafe type eaterie with an array of curry dishes on display ....to which you make your order and choose your own table/ seats. What was amazing was the piping hot aromatic curries that came in small bowls but adequate to 'feed' five people! The grilled chicken, the curry chicken and lamb, the lamb chops and the vegetable curry complemented the soft fluffy white rice and tender soft roti/ naan......which together made it a ' complete , cheap and cheerful ' meal! Wonder which curry house giant can take this one down?

Everyone loved the chicken and lamb kebab starters and the authentic curries for the main were delicious and there was plenty for the whole team to enjoy seconds too! Considering we had chicken, lamb, fish, three veg curries, naan bread and an enormous tray of tasty rice the price was very reasonable and we were all very full and very happy. So, Ive eaten most places like this in London, in Birmingham, in Manchester - It's the best punjabi/pakistani food going. Rich, deep flavour and spice. The value is incredible - the Haleem on the weekends is worth going for alone, but it is all just amazing scran.About a year ago the tidied up the diner area and in most ways it is better and cleaner (although I personally loved the formica wimpy-style fixed tables they used to have) than it ever was. It's unfussy, and the brothers that run the place are Sooooo nice. It's one of my top five jewels of london. Final Note, Ask what things are and pick from the counter, don't order from menu and go in anticipation of having SPICY food.

I have been coming here since the late 1990's and it is undoubtedly the best food I have ever tasted ...ever ...anywhere.When I moved from London to Bristol 15 years ago I bought a huge amount of food from Salims, raced along the motorway and immediately put it all in the freezer in my new place. Since then, any trip remotely near London involves a detour to Salims. In-between visits I have literally woken up at night and realised I had been dreaming about their food. That’s how good it is!The food is always freshly made in huge pots. Each day the choice of curries will be different, but you will normally find a choice of about 3 or 4 meat curries and about the same vegetarian. Now while the curries are incredible, it is actually the seekh kebabs that have always been the most unique and mouth watering part of Salims for me. The texture and ingredients is perfect as is the length of time they are cooked – not too much but not too little. What else can I say…. It is clean, great service, well priced, and a family business which they have always taken huge pride in maintaining the high standards day in day out.By the way, my father is Pakistani. I grew up on this type of food. This style I would describe as ‘home cooking’ and I suppose a little on the unhealthy side with plenty of ghee, but then that is how I like it!

Their Saag chicken is also outrageously delicious. And their Rotis are fresh, soft and mouth-watering.Beats all the other bland, copy-cat Indian restaurants in North London...Go check-it!

I've eaten at Salim's on a regular basis for 10 years, and I can honestly say their tarka dal is the best dal in the known world. Last time I returned from a trip to India I was actively looking forward to eating Salim's tarka dal. It is quite literally liquid gold in a bowl. They also serve an exceptional mint sauce.

We have been going here for years and Salim's never disappoints. The staff are friendly and the food is absolutely fabulous. You could feed a whole family of four for less than 35 pounds.

We've been getting a takeaway from Salim's most weeks for several years. Run by very friendly members of a family, favourites include kofta (meat balls and egg), chicken on the bone, lamb off the bone and the really excellent mixed veg with aubergine. The kebab rolls are also highly recommended.

We go to this restaurant every now and then and we were never disappointed, the food is great and the prices are reasonable...they also do takeaway. It's a family run business, it's clean and tasty. I would recommend to anyone wanting to have a good curry.

I've been coming here for years. There are several curry houses on Turnpike Lane (which is undoubtedly the best place for proper home-cooked curry in North London). I choose Salim's over the others because it reminds me of my mums cooking and I always get a warm welcome. I highly recommended this modest looking gem.

There are two establishments with the name Salim's on the same road. One is Salim Spice near the Turnpike Lane station. The other is Salims Restaurant and Takeway which is the one I usually visit and which this review refers to. ( Both are run by the same people). This is a kind of mix between a take-away and a small basic restaurant. You wont come here for the ambience. The management and staff are friendly. The food is standard Pakistani dishes , but all cooked to perfection. The good thing is they haven't diluted the original taste to suit the western palate and also dont serve any pseudo-Indian dishes like Balti, Madras etc which are the hallmark of Bangladeshi Indian restaurants. Most of the food is already prepared and on display. On ordering your portion will be heated up in the microwave .All the curries are very good, although one could say that some of them are a bit oily. If you come on the weekend, there are special dishes like Nihari( slow cooked lamb) which are amazing.Prices are very reasonable. All in all, a good , budget friendly option to have no-fuss , simple , authentic Pakistani food.

If you think the Jalfrazi is awful here I can understand why as I don't recall seeing it on the menu!!!! I love this place! My original review still stands. Food does vary a little as it depends who's cooking but it's always really the best flavours. Take last saturday, the Tarka Dahl was the hottest I've ever tasted, and was wonderful but not as usual. I'm sure these reviews will make little if any difference to Salim's business as it's a cafe and he is supported by the local population not by people like me driving 6 or 7 miles for the experience. I'm just really writing this to let you know that if you want a curry it's a place to go. There are other similar cafes in Turnpike Lane and you should try these too, but in my opinion this is the best. Whenever my son is back from the US it's the place he always wants to go to.

The restaurant was clean with a good atmosphere. I ordered chicken korma my mum ordered vegetable Burian. Both meals were delicious and the korma was sweet just a as I like it. the naan bread was very good but I suggest that you get the butter naan as I found that without your main meal it is a bit bland. ALWAYS eat the naan with th e main meal but overall the meal was excellent

I drive past a lot of so call curry restaurants to get to Salim’s because the food here is sooo good. It’s a family run place with traditional cooking so the food has both heat and flavour. It’s not the run of the mill bland tomato or coconut sauce mix others call masala and korma, it’s a proper place. Don’t go there and complain if you want anglicised food, even the mint sauce here has a kick. If you like curry the flavours are the best. As I said, it's family run with a friendly atmosphere and is really a café not a restaurant serving the local community, don’t park the GTI outside and pose it’s not a swanky night out, but I wouldn’t want it to be any other way. This is the best curry house I’ve found in the last 15 or 20 years since the commercialisation of Brick Lane. And, at less than a tenner a head it’s the best bargain in North London.

There are no fancy furnishings or lavish decorations at Salims, but there is delicious simple food which is very reasonably priced. I have frequented Salims for the best part of a decade, and the quality of food and service has always been consistently excellent, long may it continue!

Salon has another small restaurant at 15 turnpike lane just down the road. It's the same delicious food,as this is where some of the curries are prepared. It has it's own menu and flyer, they also do lunch time specials. seating for sixteen it is quite small and not very warm when it's cold outside!! They also do burgers and chips.

Salim's is a gem, the sort you don't find in expensive London very often. The food is real Pakistani food - I am from India and haven't found this sort of authenticity in the UK. It is also extremely cheap.

A med Sag Aloo 1 nan, cost me £4.20p It was plenty to eat and I was full! I have one niggle! when I ordered takeaway When I got the goods home there was oil everywhere! I have been going to salims for almost a year and in that time have tried most things on the menu. The food is consistently good and of the highest quality, I have converted a lot of friends who regularly ask me to bring home curries (as I live in Kent) for there Friday night treats. The value for money is amazing and I would not hesitate to recommend anyone to go and have a salims experience.
