Lovely small place enjoy the meal 🍴

Just had our 11th year anniversary dinner here and it was our visit to Salerno’s since moving to Oundle. It was the perfect cosy, casual spot for a Sunday evening. Service was welcoming, attentive, wine list was good, and the Gorgonzola ravioli and the gnocchi were both excellent. This isn’t Italian fine dining - but it doesn’t need to be. It’s unpretentious, cost, good quality comfort food. Glad we have them in Oundle and it’s a 5 minute walk from our house, so I think we’ll be back.

We came here after reading a review from Higgsy’s. It is one of the most or the most authentic Italian restaurants we’ve ever been to here in UK! It is a small restaurant and we really liked the family vibe you get as soon as you enter their doors. The food is amazing and we were so full after the pizza and pasta so we did not get the chance to try their gelato. We will definitely be back!

An Oundle institution. Delicious food right in the centre of town for a reasonable price. The service is attentive and friendly. I recommend the Primavera Pizza.

First but definitely not our last visit! We’ve been meaning to try salernos for years but always seemed to forget when thinking about where to go. Needed to go to Oundle for something else this evening so thought we’d pop in for a quick pizza for tea. We rarely go out for pizza as have a pizza oven at home and make pizza that generally surpasses anything we eat at a restaurant. We’d heard good things about Salernos though so gave it a go. It did not disappoint. We were very limited on time this evening so literally just had time for a pizza but we will definitely go back to try more on the menu as the pizzas were amazing. Very reassuring to see the sacks of pizza flour and giant tins of tomatoes by the door through to the kitchen because you know they’re making their own dough. Services was swift and warm and friendly. Really loved everything about this great family friendly restaurant. Our son is autistic and doesn’t like crowded or busy places and we were the first ones in at 5pm so it suited him perfectly, there was music but background noise unlike other restaurants that want it to be the main focus! We will definitely be back very soon!

Came here with a group of 12 for a family/friend meal and had a great time. We booked quite late so we were super grateful that they fit us in so last minute! Food was great;everyone cleared their plates and staff were super friendly. Would come again. ☺️

Great eatery Consistently good food

One lady was outwardly racist towards my group. She had the worst attitude and acted as if it was a burden on her to tend to the tables. Not nice to walk into at all. We ordered 2 mains to share between 3 and she said “it is rude to not order at a restaurant that you are sitting at” because I was not the one placing the order. She proceeded to stare us down for the rest of our time there.

We visited as a family of 4 mid afternoon for a pizza, drinks and a few sides to share, and were told when we placed our order that we shouldn’t come in and take a table for 4 unless we were going to order 4 meals, this was the manager and she was incredibly rude. We asked if she would like us to leave and she said we could stay, very ungracious. There were other empty tables. We have been on the receiving end of rudeness from the staff every time we have been in here, but this was the final straw, we will not be returning. The manager made us feel awful, unwelcome, and awkward. We paid over 50 pounds for the privilege. This is sad because the food is lovely. How anyone can treat their customers like this and still be in business is beyond me.

It was such a nice, warm welcome, and the food was amazing.

Place is ok for local Italian food. However the 2 girls working front of house are not interested in their work, just play with their phones and should ideally be replaced at the earliest opportunity since they are bringing the whole operation down.

Hubby and I had absolutely crazy week and after very long Friday we decided to go to Salernos as we are both calzone mad and really really fancied one and been way to tired to cook that night. We had absolutely lovely service and calzone, it was packed with warm buzzing atmosphere. We laughed so hard because our favourite lady whom works there brought as two chili oils, spicy and more spicy one; I am addicted to chillies so I was absolutely delighted and thrilled, it was delicious but my hubby was desperate for a ice cream afterwards to cool down the burn a bit. We got two ice cream scoops to go and our favourite lady made these amazing, massive scoops, I was feeling like a child again! Little things like that can make your day or even your week, and she certainly made mine. I was so amazed with that ice cream and she said she always makes it like she would make it for herself. Outstanding customer service, can’t wait to go back.

Frequently come to this restaurant with family and friends and always love it. Came recently to celebrate a family member’s birthday and had an amazing time. Food is always delicious as are the sides. Staff extremely friendly and helpful when needed. Will always return to this amazing establishment! Credits to the chef(s) and catering staff and wait staff for their hospitality!

On a Tuesday night, the restaurant was busy, a lovely atmosphere and the food was fantastic. The best small Italian I've eaten in every. Highly recommend it.

Really good food and lovely atmosphere

Went today (30.12.23). Whoever the woman that worked there was, is so mardy. Customer service wasn’t very great. Don’t think the woman knows manners and how to leave her mardiness out of the work setting. Also when it came to the time to pay, she gave us the bill and would proceed to just sit on her phone even though we were ready to pay, which resulted in us actually getting up and going to the till. Food was okay though. This is the first time this has happened so I still think Salerno’s is a nice place to go to.

Service staff are so miserable. We visited with a 3 year old and was told it wasn’t possible to provide child portions!! Adult portions arrived and looked child sized! Food was good but too expensive for pasta/pizza. We won’t be back.

Nice place for meal with friends

Food was amazing, highly recommend the ravioli with walnuts. All the staff were really lovely. We booked quite late in the week so only had the option of 5 or 8.30. We decided on 8.30 but got a call around 8 to say our table was already ready so we could arrive as soon as we liked. A lovely touch!!! Only downside for a friend, there was no seafood

Exceptional service. We visited with my young family (2 & 5 months) and were looked after so well by one of the ladies (I think she was the manager) but she was excellent. She went above and beyond to make what is usually a very stressful experience, enjoyable and made sure we were well looked after. She was absolutely brilliant and an asset to the team! The food was lovely too.

Suspected owners are racist when I first visited. Irrefutubly confirmed some time later. Obviously I won't be visiting & feel duty bound to inform others.

A new find for us in Oundle, a great atmosphere, food and service. Throughly recommend it, ideal for lunch or dinner. A varied menu to suit all tastes. They have a well stocked wine selection, delicious desserts and good range of starters.

We were absolutely delighted with Salerno's - fresh food, beautifully put together, so much so we forgot to drink the wine that our server recommended, which was also lovely.

I went with my cousin, and we had a wonderful meal. The food was excellent. He had the seafood pasta and I had a vegetarian pizza. The tiramisu WAS OUT OF THIS WORLD. Everything cooked freshly to order in house, and you can see into the kitchen. Lovely friendly atmosphere and very attentive staff.

Been here twice now and both times, the food has been fantastic. The service has been brilliant and all reasonably priced. My partner swears the Carbonara here is the best she's ever eaten. We live in Thrapston, so it's really nice to have such a good Italian restaurant so close by.

Great food made for an enjoyable meal

Very good food well presented. Not the cheapest place by far but still value for money Not very attentive to customers comments though. The a/c was banging away and most of us were freezing. Asked couple of times to tweak it down a bit but no result. We couldn't wait to get out to warm up a bit

We can’t understand why this place wasn’t rammed at lunchtime! The food is really well cooked, tasty, proper Italian dishes. Simple and unfussy but truly delicious. Those reviews that expect a pile of salad with Lasagne or a Caprese obviously haven’t been to Italy. I opted for a side dish as a starter. The zucchini ribbons were quickly deep fried and then dressed in salt and vinegar. Really lovely and light and different. I had the mixed seafood spaghetti which was presented in a fabulously tasty fishy and garlicky liquor. Just the right amount of chilli and I loved it. Husband had the Caprese starter with a juicy whole ball of buffalo mozzarella followed by lasagne, served on its own in all its glory, as it should be, tasting delicious and everything properly seasoned and flavoursome. We wrapped it up with good ice cream and were very happy. These days it’s just great to find a place that knows what it is doing and does it well. For those wanting bells and whistles with their idea of an Italian meal, then this may not be for you. The flavours speak for themselves and this Italian family restaurant is our new favourite.

Booked in as a group of 8 for dinner in a Saturday night and got seated right away. Nice little Italian. We had the seafood starter and garlic bread. The seafood pasta and carbonara for main.

I feel I need to leave another review, we visit regularly and we’ll we love it, lovely friendly customer service, food is always of amazing quality and reasonably priced . It is one little gem in a sea of mediocre chain restaurants in the Uk. Oh and the takeaway pizzas are a lovely treat to have a proper Italian pizza in the Uk! As always thank you! A delicious meal and friendly staff. We visit Italy a lot and can honestly say the food is as good. We had the fritto Misto and arranchini followed by the spaghetti vongole and filled ravioli with a side of courgette fritti. The tiramisu was delicious and a lovely end to a good meal. I’m embarrassed that we forgot to leave a tip as my husband thought I said I had paid it with the food. We will be back.

A romantic meal was the plan but it failed to materialise. Food was edible but certainly not authentic. Please don't use 'authentic' in your advertising material unless you can justify it by what you are serving. Neither of our main courses was particularly appetising. The staff were reasonably efficient but they didn't come across as warm and welcoming. Certainly wouldn't return. We would have been better off having burger and chips in the pub

Not great if you're gluten free, unless you like paying a daft amount extra. 🤷‍♂️ (£3.50 extra for pizza and £2.50 for pasta). Two bases or a whole bag cost less than that. Never seen it before!

We really want to like this place because their food and coffee are quite nice. However, the constant lack of a decent welcome and the feeling of inconveniencing to ask for a table or anything for that matter if extremely off putting. Staff seems more pleasant as you’re leaving.

Two of us came for a mid week catch up and supper, at 7:15pm and were very pleased with the taste and quality of the food. This is authentic Italian, superbly presented, delicious and quite quickly turned around too. The service is just enough to be discreet and right on time. We had garlic bread with our starter which was clearly made in a pizza oven, hot, quick and dripping in butter and garlic. I had carbonara which was top class.

Absolutely fabulous food. The pizza bases are just amazing. Proper quality ingredients, The pasta is cooked to perfection and the lasagna melts in your mouth. Highly recommend this place.

Not sure where some of these 5 star reviews emanate from. We shared a fritto misto appetiser at £9.50 which conferred on us two prawns, four squid rings and six whitebait. Quite possibly the most overpriced starter in the UK (and, guys, three purple flowers atop the mayo just doesn't cut it). My pizza was burnt black on the crust, the pancetta in the risotto was just about raw. And with so many families with young kids, why no kids menu? A request for half a portion of spaghetti was met with "we don't do that" and while we appreciate that half a pizza isn't feasible, why no small pizzas? We rather got the feeling that the staff preferred not to be there. Sorry guys, you need to up your game, and step into the 21st century.

A random choice for lunch venue but just right with a simple lay out and good selection of items on the menu. Not posh food but good tasty dishes. Popular with some larger groups. Waitress was a bit keen on the drinks service but that was difficult when only given a wine menu. Had to ask about other options.

I was out for an evening meal with a friend I hadn't seen in years, she had booked in advance as recommended, but the place was half empty and now I know why. This was in August 2021, I have decided to post this now as I can't believe the great ratings they have been getting. We obtained a secluded table behind the cash register, which was welcome as we wanted to chat and the restaurant was very noisy, due to the echo from the high ceiling. The waitress (daughter of Salerno apparently) Came to take our order 2 minutes after walking in I hadn't even had a chance to look at the menu ! Finally my friend ordered the Insalata Caprese at £7.80 well you can't really go wrong with a few cherry tomatoes and some mozzarella and balsamic vinegar glaze can you ? No salad to be seen and had to ask for bread. I asked for the Fritto Misto - deep fried whitebait, squid rings and prawns £9.30, as I don't like whitebait, I asked if it could be taken off and replaced with a few more prawns instead ? After returning from the kitchen, the waitress informed me that it would be an extra £2 as prawns are expensive ! I said no don't bother so paid full price for 3 prawns and 4 squid rings ( easily found at Iceland ) accompanied by homemade ?? Tartare sauce, it was mayonnaise mixed with dried herbs ! On to main, friend - pizza primavera £13.95 - tomato sauce, mozzarella and buratta ? Who can really see and taste the difference when it's on a pizza ? rocket salad and 24 month aged parmesan ?! - the topping was all in the middle of a tiny pizza with at least 10 centimetres of crust all around ! Not my idea of a pizza and it was all soggy in the middle. In Italy the pizza was invented by the poorest people, it was made from left over flattened dough coved in tomatoes and any leftovers ! I had the lasagne, nothing like in the photo, it was a large solid square on a plate all by itself, very dry, the waitress asked if I would like some parmesan I readily said yes as I though the freshly grated parmesan might add some oily softness, but to my HORROR ! She returned with an old fashioned glass ramakin with a silver cover and to my disbelief started scattering it over my lasagne ! I was shocked not only by the fact that I couldn't do it myself and the fact that not only did she ask if I wanted more and walked away with it,...but at the fact that it was DRIED and from a PACKET !! They actually have a deli in the restaurant ! Which sells fresh parmesan! I used to go to this restaurant when it existed in Peterborough in the early 90's the 'San Giorgio' and it was ok, as a basic Italian goes, however I really do think that the 'Italian' owners need to update, pasta is eaten differently these days and the prices are ridiculous £6.15 for garlic bread ! £7.25 if topped with sparse mozzarella! If you really can't be bothered to cook a saucepan full of pasta at home, go and waste your money in here, I really don't know how they have survived so long.

Outstanding food, great service and relaxed atmosphere. Starters came fresh and pipping hot. The quality of the food was outstanding. We both had the pizzas freshly made on site, great tasty toppings. The other food that came from the kitchen looked amazing, so we will be planning another visit

This restaurant did not disappoint us, the food was outstanding and authentic. My husband could see the chefs working hard and could not believe the food that was being served. I chose the ricotta cheese and spinach parcels in tomato sauce, this was just the best. Similarly, for dessert the profiteroles were to die for! We did not have time to take photos because we couldn’t wait to eat the lovely food! The 2 waitresses worked very hard to serve the drinks and food and worked efficiently together. The ambiance was nice and relaxing, we will definitely return.

Prices were reasonable, food was great, I especially recommend the Lasagne. Atmosphere was relaxing, shop was very fancy and service was great. Would surely come back next time!

We ordered three main meals. My pizza tasted salty, lacked sufficient topping and the pizza base was tough. One pasta dish was also salty whilst the other was lacking in quantity eg five pieces of ravioli with sauce.. The service was fine but the main cooked by the proprietor was dissapointing

Have eaten here many times now over the last year. The level of food is very consistent. They have usually accommodated me short notice but booking advised on weekends. Good wine selection and staff are always happy and chatty. Never had a bad experience

Excellent customer service, excellent food, at very competitive prices. Total atmosphere was really pleasant. Well worth the drive out especially you need a gluten free diet, pasta tasted as good as normal pasta.
