Sainsbury's Café in East Cambridgeshire

Excellent service and food pleasantly surprised

Food is decent but service is painfully slow and the staff are rude and not very self aware. I.e no manners to customers, swearing at loud volume from the kitchen and gossiping behind the till. Hearing about how much they dislike the manager is all very interesting but not while I'm trying to eat my (by now cold) baked beans lol.

A spacious, clean and well-maintained café, providing familiar meals at impressive value! The BBQ chicken burger was very enjoyable and my son, Freddie, always enjoys the nuggets, brocolli and beans. Exceptional value with the kids meal choices too. Friendly, efficient and professional staff. A fantastic option for a busy family!

It does what it sets out to do very well - provide inexpensive, tasty, simple food and drinks. Just perfect when all you want is a late breakfast after a night shift, or before shopping. Or a light lunch after the weekly shop, even if that was at, ahem, another place.

It’s somewhere to go to be around people for sure, often stuff is sold out tho so go with zero expectations. A bit like getting married and expecting to be happy - you’ll be sorely disappointed.

Value for money but they constantly run out of dishes

Nothing special. Food was hot and fresh. Staff were polite. Basically what you would expect from a supermarket cafe.

Poor food no care or attention. Table's floors 70% of the time not clean.

Always a great place to chill with a clear view across the roofs to the cathedral. Marvellous bring-your-own-recyclable-mug-get-25p-off scheme but oh my you need time on your hands. Lovely smiles from a singular, swamped server 😀

My mother and I have breakfast here every few months. It's great value.

Very poor breakfast compared to previous visits

Food was fine, but due to lack of staff it took over 45 minutes to get meal. 3 kids under 10 were not happy with Grandad for making them wait so long for their dinner.

Great place to have a coffee, snack or a meal. Generous helpings and lovely staff.

Visited with my 2 toddler sons yesterday lunch time (not particularly busy but the service would make you think it was!) We queued and chose the lunch bags for the boys (which as anyone with children will attest can be time consuming!) I then noticed there were no kids sandwiches. Anyway after allowing a lovely older gentleman to go ahead, I explained the problem, asking if there were any sandwiches in the kitchen or if anything could be substituted. Unfortunately, there was a big 'computer says no' reaction and I was told I'd be charged for each item individually which would be more expensive than had it come with a sandwich?! Once sorted, I thought ok fair enough and bought a portion of chips for the children to share along with their banana and yogurt from the original kids meal. The price was now extortionate but I was very aware of the growing queue. I politely mentioned to the staff that it may be worth putting a sign on the fridge to explain that there were no sandwiches so no kid's meal deal available (as I had seen other puzzled parents already!). This was promptly ignored. Anyway, we waited 40 minutes for this portion of chips to arrive! They were tasty and my 2 were good as gold and we got chatting to a lovely couple so all in all it was OK, but could have been a much better experience with better communication and service. Never mind, we will be back as the kids love a lunch out and (usually) the kids' lunch meal deal is very good value!

We had warm coffe which l returned ordered vegetarian breakfast was given bacon and sausages had to take meat off plate then was brought veg saus. By then it was all cold waited 30mins for food . Overall really bad

Staff are really friendly and nice! Sometimes they don't serve food, no Idea why. Drinks are about what you expect, you can even get fizzy drinks from a pump.

The customer service lady was racist towards my Irish Traveller friends.

Went in for lunch today....waited 30 mins for our order, cafe not full. I had scampi & chips. Scampi just warm, odd sizes, chips awful and peas dried up. If that's the quality of scampi that they sell in store, don't buy it. Wish I'd never bought the lunch.Dirty tables everywhere. Would never eat there again. Awful food, dirty cafe. Capachino was good though.

Always a good place for good value food and drink. Great for families or just meeting up with friends.

All day breakfast was OK but no hash browns were on the plate Just had what was served and decided not to return to eat there again Tables weren't cleaned Toilets weren't looked after and toilet in babys room is broken and not repaired

Ordered jacket potato with tuna mayonnaise and scampi and chios waited 35 minutes then advised no tuna either chese or beans chose cheese on top it arrived with some lettuce leaves even a rabbit would have found hard to eat, lukewarm potato no butter on potato under cheese, chips had all black marks where they had not been peeled correctly peas and scampi rock hard. we appreciate they were busy with school holidays but never again.

we waited almost 40 minutes for our food, when it finally came it was almost cold. I suspect the kitchen staff had been talking instead of caring about customers. we did get a full refund. we won't use them again.

very cold seriously very poor quality food we had chips which was cold not fresh, Carrott cake was ok but not good. breakfast tea and cappuccino coffee was ok. We always went for lunch ect when shopping im disabled so need a rest and it was ok before but very poor and cold now, choices food snacks wouldn't recommend it to anyone

Popped in as wife fancied drink. She had tea and I had latte coffee. I also had pigs in blankets Xmas menu item. Not an item to merit rave review, couple of sausages and rashers of bacon in bread roll. Trace of rind on bacon.

Reasonably priced food and good coffee but this cafe is let down by understaffing: lengthy queues; a menu that can only be read from in front of the till, slowing ordering still further; dirty tables that weren't cleaned in the 2 hours we were there. I love Sainsbury but I'll be avoiding their cafe from now on!

No child lunch bags available despite all elements on display apart from sandwiches. Apparently although they are a Supermarket they could not source a plain cheese sandwich???? Hot food was hardly warm and all day breakfast was very poor quality.

Over an hour wait for lasagne! Several people asked for their money back because they couldn't wait any longer

This is definitely one of the if not the best Sainsbury cafés I have visited. I had good food, good service with a smile and at a good price. When I heard they were closing over 200 cafés in favour of food hall's I was rather dismayed. Sainsbury Ely go that bit further and make your dine in enjoyable. I stopped off at Thetford Sainsbury and noticed that the café there had been closed. It didn't surprise me in the least. In the past cleanliness and service was appalling and the food was barely eatable. I for one will not miss miss this café.

Visited cafe, thought great not one single person in the queue, hubby ordered scrambled egg on toast . I wasn't eating,after 25 minutes asked a young waiter if it would be ready soon as we had an appointment,just as the waitress was bringing it out. As she got to the table she sarcastically asked if we were being impatient, Very rude, I think management need to train there staff in customer service.

Usually tables available, friendly staff and hot food available. Personally, I would like healthy-eating sandwiches or rolls, coffee quality is good though.

I really like the food The staff have a 5 star smile And the price of the food is really great. And the cafe is really clean and well kept.

Four staff behind the counter, took 15 minutes to make a subpar cappuccino. This is not the first time.

Best fish I have had. I do however get annoyed when people do not tidy up after themselves.

Slow. Some of the food cold. Below average even for supermarkets. Poor compared to other sainsbury's.

I'd love to rate this place higher but the fact that there's never any soap in the toilet is strong enough for the two stars. Food is okay, selection is good, service is bland and sometimes borderline rude, never a smile or a good word from the staff, they look miserable and I am 100% sure it's not their fault. Place can get really busy with sometimes no free tables, I think it shows value for your money, as food is really not bad. I also had a bad experience when I ordered a decaffeinated coffee and got a regular one. I'm caffeine sensitive so I know when it is regular, so I hoped to get it changed to a decaf one but that didn't happen as they were so busy I never actually got another one

Big breakfast, ordered, wouldnt want the small breakfast, one sausage burnt the other luke warm, baked beans warm,bacon undercooked, certainly wouldn't visit again, been to better roadside cafes

I ordered an omelette but after paying and finding a seat I was told that there were no omelettes left in the freezer... I ended up ordering a chicken and bacon panini as a replacement, which tasted OK.

Convienant venue for a quick coffee or food. Has parking.

Nice food helpful staff often very busy at park times only criticism is when you order something and they say its sold out. In a supermarket?

Not too bad, recently been having problems vending soft drinks because their machine is messed up. Have been assured it's due to be replaced, although when is a mystery..

Had some breakfast, breakfast was ok, had it better else where, id say a bit pricey for breakfast. Service was good and friendly. Overall not bad.

Food is wonderful but the service is very slow. The staff are absolutely wonderful but lacking in good management. Watch out for the cutlery as it's very grubby!
