This was our first visit here tonight as we have just recently moved to Bideford, and I must say both myself and wife thought the food and hospitality was absolutely amazing. This is family owned restaurant, with husband and wife taking care of everything. Leepa was very friendly and helpful and gave us a guided tour through the menu ,helping us pick some wonderful food with great suggestions. We will return very soon, the best lamb dish we have ever had and some wonderful chefs specialities! Thank you both x

Ordered a Chicken Dhansak and a Chicken Korma with rice and Peshwari naan on Weds 10th July as a takeaway to watch the England v Holland game. Very disappointed, Dhansak was too hot and the chicken tasted funny with both meals, the naan was under cooked so we threw them both in the bin. Have used before last year, and the food was good sadly. Wouldn't bother again.

I've eaten Madras curry all around the country and from here before as well as I like spicy food. On this occasion it was so hot it was inedible after just one mouthful. We spent nearly £50 on our takeaway so I had other items I could share and eat. I phoned to talk to them about our experience but was told the chef made it how he normally does, doesn't make mistakes so it must be me! I was hoping they would allow me to bring it in and look at it but they were so rude I thought I would just pass this info on and suggest that there are many other curry places in Bideford that are better value, have better food not to say better customer service when something goes wrong. A shame as this used to be good. Avoid!

This was our first visit to The Sagor in Bideford and we were hoping for good things so our review is as follows... Food, only 4 Stars here but honestly that could have been because of the dishes we chose. We opted to order a couple of Sagor's specials but we were a bit underwhelmed when we tried them as we both felt we couldn't identify any fresh individual flavours of the ingredients. Don't get me wrong, the dishes were fine just a bit bland. Next time I will order a standard dish, something like a madras, in order to be able to compare to other restaurants we have been in. Service, this was good. Our server, who I believe was the owner, was lovely and friendly and couldn't do enough for us. Drink and food order was taken and in no time our drinks and poppadoms were delivered. The food arrived around 20-25 minutes after ordering which is completely acceptable and gave us time to enjoy our evening. Our hostess was pleasant and attentive and she was a joy to interact with. Atmosphere, The Sagor is a small restaurant in a side street in Bideford. It seemed clean and tidy and relatively well maintained. We have absolutely no negative comments but on a quiet night there was little atmosphere but this cannot be considered the fault of The Sagor. All in all our meal at The Sagor was okay but nothing to feel we have to shout about from the rooftops. Will we be back, probably!

We had a meal from here whilst staying in Bideford. It is a great Indian the food was hot and tasty and order correct. Portions are brilliant the delivery was meant to be 1 hour 30 mins but arrived in 45 mins so impressed with staff honesty. The only thing that cost a star on service was driver couldn't find address and I had to walk down road to meet him as we could not explain area as not from Bideford. But the driver was friendly and the girl on phone, so this is a restaurant worth ordering from or getting a take out best Indian I would say in Bideford.

Please do not use this restaurant. This is a sad review. Unfortunately I have used this restaurant on numerous occasions and always found the food to be of good quality and the service exceptional unfortunately on this one occasion and I must admit my memory isn’t that great so I couldn’t remember the name of the dish that I always order, however !! They only have one dish with the Description of four pieces of tandoori, chicken and a spicy sauce! When I phoned them and asked from my regular dish, they said they knew exactly what I was asking! When my delivery arrived, it wasn’t what I ordered when I phoned them to explain nicely that they had sent me the wrong dish Their attitude was very aggressive and dismissive, so I actually brought down my plate of food to show them that it wasn’t what I I ordered! when I did this, they became very very very aggressive and angry, which changed my attitude from friendly to passive aggressive and I scraped my plate of food on their table to say to them that this was not what I ordered They argued with me that that was what I ordered, despite the fact that they could not explain my description of what I ordered as they only had one dish on their menu which matched my order ! I was that grieved at my unfair treatment by their staff that I scraped my plate across the table to say to them. This isn’t what I ordered and if you are not going to return my money, you can keep your food with this they phoned the police, and when the police arrived and I gave my story, I walked away, completely scot free after telling them my side of the story. They still however refused to return my money, even after they had completely messed up my order their customer service was disgusting and aggressive ! I urge anybody that is going to use this restaurant to read all of the negative reviews on this restaurant and make your decision. Is it the customer Or customer service with regards to this restaurant???

Said they could deliver to our location. It was a big order but at the decided after calling it through that they couldn't in fact deliver. Wouldn't give any stars if that was an option "You have forgotten to mention that you are 30 minutes away from us. You are in a complete different town. We politely said we might be able to deliver but we are packed with local deliveries and if we did deliver to you we would not be able to give you a time. In which you said you will call back. We have had back to back orders from your last call which has changed expected delivery time that it would be very hard for us to deliver out to you as we have to prioritise the local deliveries we have already had in. Now as a business we have the right to refuse orders. Respect our refusal instead of bashing us for kindly refusing to take your money and meet unrealistic expectations. We have also offered for you to collect as an alternative" Unfortunately this is complete lies, we were given a delivery time of 2 hours, which whilst a long time for a 7.8 mile journey we were happy with being it's a Saturday night. Of course you have the right to refuse business but as you said you didn't refuse it you changed from a realistic delivery distance (in a really slow time frame of 2 hours) to pick up. If you don't want people "bashing" your business you shouldn't commit to something and then go back on it. A review is a review of an experience and you went out of your way to make sure ours was a poor one therefore it's only fair you get a poor review

We're new to the area and your Indian restaurant came highly recommended. We ordered by phone and had it all delivered - ordered at 1751 and arrived 1 hour and 40 minutes later, but I guess you were busy. However, despite the food being of exceptional quality, the dishes themselves were all uncomfortably hot - even the side dish of Bombay Potato was very hot. We did enjoy the flavours and would happily return if we could specify at time of ordering that the dishes be less hot. I know that after tasting countless Indian dishes over the years, a Balti and a Korai should never be this hot. Many thanks.

3 of us ordered a take away from here. I am always sceptical about ordering a take away, but Sagor quashed all my fears. All was freshly cooked, and was very tasty. A good quality chicken and lamb meat was used which made a big difference, and they were large cubes of meat rather than small piddly ones. Not swimming in watery oily or fatty sauce, but served in a well constructed sauce without the greasy aftertaste. The vegitarian options were just as good too. Would highly reccommend, and will definitely go again.

At no stage were we asked how the food was it was when we decided to leave that I approached your counter that i informed you of a very salty and tough chicken Jalfrezi and that the sag Paneer was far too sweet and the Paneers Cheese tasted synthetic. As my partner stated we left a full bottle of beer. Please except you served poor quality food and don’t make it worse by lying. Ordered takeaway on 7/4/23. Lovely people running it but poor food sadly. Extremely bland and mild madras despite the menu inferring it was hot; a very strange Lamb curry with hard bits of lime in it that was inedible; a cremated mixed starter consisting of bhajis, tandoori chicken and Seekh kebab that were very disappointing. A curious bag of salad that had been sweating and went straight into the compost bin. The naan breads were spongy and stale. Wouldn’t return here. Would urge them to focus on a smaller menu, use high quality and fresh ingredients and learn to cook in a specific method more traditional to Indian cookery.

Can honestly say this is the worst place I have ever eaten at! Myself, my wife, sister and brother in law had booked a table in advance, we arrived and were shown to a table by a young woman who was miserable and mumbling something about only one thing on the menu!!?? She didn’t offer to take our coats…so we just sat with them stuffed on our seats. Another older waitress who was friendly gave us menus and took our drink orders…gin and tonic with no ice or lemon, coke which was poured from a large supermarket own brand bottle again no ice. Table setting was basic with cheap paper napkins which weren’t replaced after starters. Food took an hour and a half to arrive, people were waiting for takeaways and complaining about time taken to arrive. When the food arrived it was nice and we did enjoy, however as soon as we finished the waitress, asked if we’d finished and then said ‘I’ll get your bill’ no offer of would we like coffee or dessert and so we paid and left. It was like being in a bizarre comedy sketch, I expected David Walliam or Matt Lucas to arrive…the food was okay, nothing special but the service was atrocious and we will not be going back and would not recommend….avoid.

We were staying on holiday locally and had been recommended this place by out hosts so we decided to give it a go. Unfortunately despite being some of the first customers they had in we had a very long wait on food. When we went in there was a delivery driver sitting around on his phone and apart from the occasion delivery that's where he stayed most of the 2 hours we were there. There was a young server who had virtually no personality and didn't make an effort to chat or ask u how things were. When plates were taken she just took them without a word. The manager was much chattier but was on the phone a lot taking orders. In terms of the food, we had poppadoms to start with mango chutney. This was very nice, crisp poppadoms, a "little" greasy. But not overly so. Mango chutney was lovely, not too sweet with a nice tang. For starters we had butterfly prawn and the sagor mixed special (I believe it was called), which had a selection of things on. These were really nice. Things started to fall apart with the mains. I had a lamb korma and my partner has a chicken tikka, fairly simple. Plus two peshwari (prob not how that's spelt lol) naans... Even tho on the menu it says "nans" 😉 These unfortunately weren't great, very watery and very little meat, or anything else in the actual dish. Very disappointed. I actually could not finish my korma as it was far too sweet. Such a shame. Total price was about £41.

I’ve nothing but positives to share about the food and service from the Sagor. We were advised that delivery would be a long wait, so chose to collect our order from the restaurant - there’s plenty of nearby street parking.Once home the food proved to be a treat, the balance of the spicing was outstanding, the meats were soft and fresh, and the breads and rice spot-on.My peshwari chicken main was delicately flavoured with a glorious thick sauce. My friend’s shatkora was delicious and my wife enjoyed her jalfrezi too.Next time we’re in North Devon this place is at the top of our list - hopefully they have the eat-in option available then too!

I’m so disappointed to be leaving this review as I love Sagor, but last night’s takeaway has left a really sour taste in my mouth. My husband and I ordered vegetable curries but asked for a bit of paneer in each one too. Vegetable curries are around £5 on the menu so I was expecting our whole meal (including 2 x rice, 2 x naans and 1 x chips) to be around £20. I was shocked when I turned up and was charged £27.10, which included a 10% discount!! I queried this and was told our curries were £9.20 each because we asked for a bit of paneer?! This worked out more expensive than a prawn curry. I was told this is because they order in ‘premium paneer’. For that price I’d expect it to be covered in gold leaf… We live locally and have always supported Sagor but we won’t be back for a long time, if at all. Such a shame.

You will not be dissapointed if you order from here. I would eat from here everyday if I could. Great tasting menu, and always piping hot.

Amazing Food, ordered the chicken tikka from the main tandoori menu for my girlfriend and Lamb Bhuna for myself. One rice dish was enough for both of us and the Peshwari Naan was perfect side with plenty of coconut. My girlfriend hadn't tried the naans before so was a new experience, the keema naan she wasn't keen on but that is more because she is a fussy eater not because it wasn't nice (I was glad as I got to eat hers too). Both well and truly stuffed, we will definitely order from here again. My only dissapoint is with myself and not ordering a hotter dish, next time 😉

It's a real shame there isn't a decent curry house in bideford, Dont waist your money here come to barnstable if you want a nice curry The food in this restaurant is in my opinion very poor . I just saw your reply my review which is completely true your cook has worked in every curry house in bideford , And you may get more custom if you sent him on his way HORRIBLE FOOD .

Food arrived on time. Chicken korma had a lovely taste although it seemed split, my plate had water come out from the sauce. The chicken was so tough it was almost inedible and it wasn't very hot. Shame the 1st time we ordered from sagor it was perfect, this time it's very disappointing.

Tried Sagor for a takeway - very tasty meal that was prepared quickly - also great alue. Would say this is the best of the Indian restaurants and takeaways iin Bidelford, although it is more tucked away. Was also very pleaed to find that felt fine the next day - a side effect of some spicy meals can be tummy issues. But, despite ordering a Madras, all was well. Thanks and would use again.

Could not fault the meals we chose, biryani, shaktora and masala. Huge pieces of lamb and chicken in tasty, well-spiced sauces that were piping hot even after a five-minute walk home. Good value too and generous amounts. We'll definitely be back to sample more from the extensive menu on offer. Thanks for a lovely meal...

Had a takeaway this evening. The food was bland and watery. The chicken was tough. Very disappointed overall. I've had better school dinner curries in the 1970s!

Lock down date night and fancied a takeaway, but needed a vegan one. Sager couldn’t have made it easier. Tell them you’re a vegan at the beginning of the phone call and they’ll veganise the menu as much as they can. Arrived on time, was hot and delicious. Good size portions so great value for money. Will be keeping the menu handy for the next night in

I have eaten in this restaurant on numerous occasions over the past 6 yrs and have never been disappointed, currently as I write this review it is closed for internal dining due to Covid restrictions and offering a takeaway service only, I used this service for the first last night(9th January) and I have to say it was delicious, all 7 dishes were fresh & piping hot on delivery (3.5 miles), an excellent evening enhanced with lovely food- Well done Sagor & gang.

We were staying locally for a week, & lockdown started whilst away, so tried Sagor for a takeaways we coukdnt eat in. We were so impressed that we had another 3 days later! Delicious! Good selection for the 2 vegans with us too. All freshly cooked, varied menu with a few unusual dishes and best prices I've seen in a long time. Friendly staff, and food ready pretty quickly. Very impressed, would recommend. Please use this restaurant and give support during these tough times, they've clearly worked hard to keep giving a great experience despite the devastating blow of another lockdown. At their prices, you can afford to treat yourself!

Just had a prawn and a lamb curry takeaway from Sagor which I would not recommend it only took about 5 minutes when it was ready which I thought was to quick for fresh food to be cooked, it seems I was right as it was disgusting it was very bland and tasteless it's the first time I have tryed Sagor Tandoori and it'll be last really disappointed.

Staying right next door to Sagor so thought we'd give them a try on our last night. We enjoyed a fabulous meal and coming from the East Midlands we know what we're talking about. The food was piping hot and beautifully spiced. The garlic naan were especially good. I have no idea how anyone has had a negative experience at Sagor. From ordering to collection, the experience was a really good one.

Amazing food and good value. We tried here whilst staying 20 mins away for a break. I wasn't expecting the food to be anything special as I'm spoilt for choice with Bangladeshi and Indian restaurants where I live in Surrey. However, the food was spot on! Lovely dishes with depth of flavours. The Naga main was very nice and hotter than most other restaurants prepare it. The phall was hotter and exactly what I like from a phall, very hot! Shatkora was really good and it looked like they used fresh shatkora. I've only ever found frozen or pickled shatkora fruit and I've searched far and wide so that was a nice touch and the flavour of the dish was spot on. Tara daal was beautiful as was the garlic naan and muttar paneer. Looking forward to eating the rest of it tonight, didn't try the starters yesterday and I'm sure they will be just as good! I ordered 3 poppadoms, 3 chutney/pickles, 2 starters, 3 mains, 2 sides, naan and rice and it came to £36 with 10% discount on collection. I thought this was good value. Great restaurant!!

We chose a family takeaway and I must commend the restaurant on an excellent meal! I personally had the chicken anarkoli which was the nicest Indian meal I have had in a very long time. Having read some recent reviews I was disappointed to read what some people had said but from my point of view the guy who served me was polite, engaging and lovely. The food was fresh and tasty.I am only here in holiday but when I next return I will definitely order again.

Easily the best Indian takeaway in Bideford. All the usual fare plus some great chef's specialities (love the Naga curry). Generous portions too. Just make sure that you order direct to benefit from discounts on collection orders or free Bombay potatoes. You don't get those through Just Eat!

Went here and reviewed last October 2023. I was in the area again October 2024 so thought I would give it a go. Only a small doorway on Bideford Quay so not easy to find. Steep stairway up to the first floor restaurant so may not suit those with mobility issues. There is an electric lift on the ground floor but it looked very small to me and some may not like getting in it I reckon. Premises quite big inside, quiet on the night I went but it was wet. Toilets of a reasonable standard. I had the Bombay Chicken as a main ( chicken with minced lamb and a boiled egg ), a saag bhaji as a side and a garlic naan. Took a little while to come but it was tasty and I enjoyed it. Not a lot of atmosphere but the place was quiet due to the weather so perhaps it livens up when the seasons improve.
