Overall an excellent meal. Lovely comfortable decor and pleasant friendly staff. Well recommended. The food was very tasty and unlike some Indian meals didn’t leave you feeling bloated. Good crispy Papadoms without a hint of grease came with a nice tray of lime pickle and chutney etc. Menu had chillies next to each meal so the strength was clear. I like medium hot so chose a Bengal chicken with a 3 chilli mark and Pelau rice, would recommend it if like me you enjoy a curry that has a nice spicy taste but not overpowering. But in general there was a good choice, the chef’s specials were a little more expensive but just went for something I thought I would like. My partner had papadoms with Chicken Pasander which is mild and she really enjoyed, nice Pelau rice with both meals not lumpy but well flavoured. 650 mml of Kingfisher (just over a pint) and a coke came to about £42 but if we had been able to add a bigger tip would have given them £47. In the end gave them about £45.

Sadly and it pains me to give any business owner a bad review, but this place is a joke. Furthermore, school boy error that I didn’t trip advise this place before ordering? Usually we go to two other restaurants but we couldn’t be bothered driving, so we gave this place a shot. Firstly the take away meal arrived and I had to drive back to the restaurant to query why so little sauce and tiny portion size given the £40 cost (just for takeaway mains) Returned home, tasted the food and I could not decipher what I was meant to be eating? Food lacked any depth and real flavour, tandoori chicken tasted like rubber and the sauces just terrible. The chapattis could have been used at ‘lords’ as a cricket ball, such was the hardness. Also….why do all the meals come in microwave Tupperware? That in itself is a Red Flag? Your paying a premium price and getting cheap quality ingredients. Never again, there’s plenty of really good Indian restaurants in Widnes and surrounding areas.

Very disappointed 😞 all the food was microwaved!! And the curry sauces were bland! Àll food short of flavour. Pity because the restaurant and decor has a good feel .Sorry won't be coming back.

After placing a £40 takeaway order the food should of arrived within the hour. After two hours we called and enquired as to where our order was. After a further hour we called again and asked for a refund to which we are told would be processed straight away. Two weeks later and after a couple of emails and also trying to call the restaurant (ringing out) we are still yet to receive refund. To sum it up I will never eat in or takeaway from here again. You shouldn’t have to chase your own money back like this and they still have near £40 of my money. Shocking service!!!

The last time we had a bad experience was during eat out to help out and just put it down to a one off..... We went again, the food was sparse to say the least, it was cold and when we complained, the waitor argued with us, took the food away and microwaved it. We asked to speak to the owner..... Surprisingly, not available. AVOID

Everything we had was bland at best and pretty dire at worst. There were 8 adults 7 of whom had various alleged curry’s. They all looked the same. Basically some sort of brown mush. I’ve eaten curry around the world, including a fair amount in India. This was by far the worst “Indian food” I’ve every had. The staff were uninterested and underwhelming. The “ chef” should hold his head in shame but there’s no excuse for the owners who really should consider training for both themselves and their staff. Curry is without doubt my favourite food but if this was what it all tasted like I’d not bother. Just disgraceful.

My husband bought us a take away from this resteraunt last night, we had one previously which was extremely dissapointing, but we gave the resteraunt the benefit of the doubt as possible a one off issue, this meal was the same, my husband phoned the order through at 5.30 and the person answering the phone said he needed to check whether they had ran out of lamb and proceeded to shout to the cook in the kitchen, aa it was very early in the evening we were both quite shocked that they thought they may have ran out!! My husband collected the food at the time advised, 45 minutes later, the resteraunt is literally round the corner from where we live, my husband went in the car to ensure the food remained hit but unfortunately the nan was over cooked, crispy and stone cold, the rest of the food was cold also, we bought a prawns cocktail starter which had limited sauce and we,d put in the fridge for later so we didn't delay in serving the hot food. We have eaten in the resteraunt and are never served food like this, although it is considerably more expensive, we won't be ordering from here again, can would advise anyone considering, looks elsewhere, the food went in the bin, a total rip off!!!!

I went to this restaurant with my daughter last night. What a great experience. This has to be the best Indian restaurant around. The food was delicious and the service impeccable. I think it's been open since around 2000 and they still have basically the same staff, that says a lot for the owners. In fact a friend told me a nearby Indian restaurant tried to poach the Chef and staff, they are that good. No expense has been spared decorating the entire restaurant it looks great and enhances the atmosphere. If you don't like Indian food don't worry they have great British alternatives, especially the steak on granite. The only thing that was missing was some atmospheric traditional music. Len Horrocks

We visited this so-called restaurant for a family meal last night. Starters turned up an hour and a half after we had ordered them, and the mains took a further hour to arrive. Food was disgusting and overcooked, staff were rude and unhelpful, dishes were missed off the order and the beer was off!Upon leaving, we told to the manager how disappointed we were with our visit - she was clearly not interested in anything we had to say and shrugged it off. I would recommend that everyone avoids this place, you'd be better off going the chippy!

First impressions very beautifully decorated and a very popular place restaurant looked to be full. Was very loud very much a family outing sort of place I'd say with the atmosphere there. Service a little slow granted it was a busy night but with that many staff passing us was a little bit concerned we'd been forgotten about. Starter was a good portion size they had run out of samosa so offered to substitute for spring rolls instead (we had a mixed starter). Main course was okay that's all I can say about it just okay. Naan bread lacked flavour very bland. All in all i don't think id return there

Well I have to say it's a very popular place. We went on Saturday and the place was packed. The food on the other hand was very average. Nothing really stood out to me. Starters were ok. Mains were a bit lack lustre, not much sauce on any of the dishes. The naan tasted like a shop bought one. Not for me. There are far better curry houses in Widnes.

Saffron is by far the best restaurant in Halton. (Widnes, Runcorn.) The food is always excellent and the staff are the friendliest and most knowledgeable around. I used to love this place, but it went steadily down hill. One year, they put on a fantastic show on valentines day and I hoped things had started to pick up again. That was short lived and with the place empty most evenings, I wont go now. It really just needs standards to go up and stay up so you know you will get a good mean. A few times now, I've had food that tasted off. One time this was met with little to no interest. So, with other places like the Barton Rouge doing well even mid week, I think the message should be clear.Staff and owners very friendly. Decor nice, but the food is why I used to go there. The service is great and the staff are friendly and willing to help; this year we added an extra four people to the table and although we rang ahead this had not been noted in the bookings. Despite how busy it was, they managed to get us a larger table, no problem. The food is lovely and easily the nicest Indian in Widnes, although not the cheapest! The Saffron is tucked away in Farnworth village between Widnes and Cronton. It is certainly worth the journey as you will receive attentive service in a relaxed but very classy environment. The food is simply excellent and the clever flexible menu system enables you to almost plan your own individual curry. However i would recommend the Chef's Specials as all of our party who tried them were delighted. There is an option to cook you own meat on a hot stone which we did not try but looked quite spectacular. Good value too as the cheaper Indian restaurants in the area feel just that, cheaper alternatives. The Saffron is very civilised with an affluent clientele but quite informal and welcoming.

We were a party of five who had missed our earlier dinner reservations at the Church View pub, looking for somewhere local to where we were staying that was still serving food we happened upon the saffron. We phoned and the staff were very accommodating and within 10 minutes we had arrived and been seated. The food was gorgeous, even our non curry eating friend tried a curry and loved it. The staff were fantastic very patient, attentive and helpful. Food was hot, and of excellent quality. the nicest Indian I have had in a long time.

Went here last week. The restaurant wasn't busy when we got there but was starting to fill up as we left. Very attentive staff with quick, inconspicuous service. Gorgeous food - we had a pathia, a dhansak, a hot stone sizzling thing where you cook the meat yourself and an omelette for the non-Indian food lover. We all thoroughly enjoyed it and, I have to say, the pathia was one of the nicest I've ever had. Lovely; will definitely be returning.

I brought a friend here last night ....it was his first visit and I had bulled it up to be special....however, it was good at best. We had two waiters ....one very attentive and nice ... The other surly. We had nawabi murgh (my fave) and a lamb spinach dish. Both were just warm. The restaurant was not busy so no excuse. The food was good but I am a bit of a stickler for HOT food (I'm also reluctant to send food back). The temperature in the restaurant was cool which didn't help the ambience. Disappointed ....

Had some takeaway from here last Saturday. For 2 it cost £30. The Prawn puri was nice but the onion Bhajis were increbily greasy. The mains (Bhuna and Tikka Masala) were very lacking in meat and the meat that was present was very poor quality. You could taste just how pumped with water it was. Thin runny sauces and cold too. I wouldnt recommend and wouldn't go again.

Small restaurant, in Farnworth Village which has a car park to the side. We have been here many times and never had a bad meal, bad service or rude staff. The also do takeaways. The staff have been there for years and the owners are generally about at weekends to have a chat with. They always check that everything is ok and you are happy.I had the chefs special, chicken was delicious and sauce very tasteful. We have en our children on previous occasions and they always make a fuss of them. Will be back very soon.

Have been to this restaurant a few times and it's never let me down. The service and the food is excellent . I am no expert on Indian food but the waiter was so helpful with his knowledge and recommendations. The portions are more than enough and the prices are reasonable. Next time I go I will try the early bird deal as I got there just after it finished and there was it seemed quite popular by the amout of people there. The music seems to have stopped , as it seems you have to buy a liecence to have play music. Why dont they give these places a chance ? Never heard anything so daft ! All in All you want be dissapointed if you are looking for a nice indian meal.

I gave this place another chance recently. The food is okay, I had the early bird 5 course meal for £10,95. The chicken madras tasted lIke it came out of a packet and the chicken is still rubbery and tasteless. The onion Bhaji starter was good, as we're the pappadums and pickle tray. The biggest problem with this place is the staff. They are surly and uncommunicative. The young scouse asian lad in particular is clearly in the wrong job. He is utterly charmless and downright rude. I witnessed an elderly lady who was clearly unfamiliar with indian food be told that she had to cook the food herself! What he should have explained is she had enquired after their black rock grill which is an at table experience where the customer can cook food to their liking. The Poor lady just looked confused and he made no attempt to help. Ive had it with this place there are plenty of better places in Widnes now.i will leave Brenda and Ernie to rest on their over decorated laurels.

We went last night for Father's Day, party of 6 including a 4 year old. The food was piping hot, freshly cooked and the staff attentive, kind and warm! We were not rushed or interrupted by anyone. My daughter was given lollipops and a bowl of ice cream. The shashlik ad chicken chat puri starters we amazing and my daughter loved the butterfly Prawn. The meat was succulent and soft an the sauces full of flavour, 3 rice and 2 naan more than sufficient for we 6. Well done Saffron, superb!!

I was shocked when I saw this place averaging 3 stars it's the best Indian in widnes I often get take aways and have eaten in 3 times the food is always fresh and not swimming in ghee as with some Indian places, the staff are so polite and welcoming the decor is relaxing and luxurious and although not the cheapest place you get what you pay for an that's superior service and high quality food!

Once again a lovely meal from start to finish. All of our meals are lovely and I honestly do not know where the poor reviews on here are coming from. The waiters are exceptionally friendly and always ready to please giving advice on all varieties of tastes. The owners of the restaurant are very attentive to people and take great pride in giving an excellent service. A very friendly place with a nice atmosphere. We love it!

I have rated this restaurant poor as it is now the third time (but now last time) we have eaten here and been given cold food. I have to say that they are very good with regards to heating it up for you but it is just a consistant problem and very irritating. This time though, the problem was also with the quality of the food. The chicken was extremely poor quality and you only get 4 cubes in a dish. (a good thing actually when you realise that is it spongy, watery chicken with no flavour). The sauce in which the chicken was served was not good. We had a madras that tasted like curry powder mixed with water. I could have made better at home myself. Apart from the mens toilets (which are a disgrace), the restaurant is actually quite nice. Good atmosphere. The lady who served us was very friendly and helpful, so from the service point of view we cannot complain. However, as the primary aim of the evening was to go out and enjoy a nice meal with friends, the quality of the food means that we will NEVER be returning. I suggest that if you do wish to visit this restaurant, you are honest with them when you get your food and tell them if you are not happy. I am sure they will correct things. Personally I would just rather not go again.

We rang the Saffron and booked, we arrived and were not seated, merely scowled at, the place was empty aside from people in the bar waiting for the rest of their large, well 6, party. It was obvious they were the sole focus of the 2 staff. The staff were surly and hostile, they finally seated us, eventually brought our drinks and took our order, after an age brought the so-so food, the Stone Grill is a rip-off gimmick btw, then left the plates et al on our table til we eventually had to go and seek them out to request our bill. When I eventually found the staff they were sat on their arses playing with their phones, and these weren't 'kids' they were oldish guys who should know better! We never even managed to get a second drink as they just left us to our own devices. To sum up: the worst service I have ever experienced, never felt so unwelcome in a restaurant in our life, so no tip for these lacklustre chaps! We have never had a worse dining experience! So avoid, unless you are a masochist, the place may look pretty but all that glisters is most definitely NOT gold! Only rated a 1 as there was no -5!!
