Saffron in Richmond upon Thames

Saffron is a fantastic little spot for authentic Persian food in Richmond. The dining room is set in a cosy basement space. Throughout our evening, a succession of hopefuls came into the restaurant to request a table but the place was fully booked! We had the hummus and falafel to start, then the kubideh and sabzi for mains. Everything was perfectly cooked. Moist lamb kebab, soft, fluffy rice and crispy flat bread to dunk into the rich sabzi gravy. We cleared the lot. We also had a bottle of lager each. The bill came to just over £60. Incredible! The servers were friendly and welcoming. Would love to go back.

I am going to be honest about this review as I hope the owner would take it as a constructive feedback. the service was fair, although we waited a long time when asked for the bill. They were busy and short of staff. The starter, Felafel was very poorly presented, burnt, oily and not fresh or good taste. Mast Moosir (Yogurt) was salty as well as the Dough. the main, Kabab koobideh was full of oil, and added with turmeric! you could feel the chopped onions in your mouth and nothing like the original recipe. however, fresh baked naan was delicious and that was the only good part of the table in all hoensty. The main reason I am leaving this review is hopefully the owner would review their menu and the quality of their food as well as letting others know that this place currently cannot represent the original authentic Iranian dishes. hope they will change soon. also regarding the atmosphere, It felt quite packed , could remove a few tables for a better experience. Would not recommend the place.

A very delicious Persian food, the place is very cozy and the service friendly, they help you choosing and explaining the menu. First time trying doogh drink which I highly recommend. Go and discover this Persian spot.

The service was great nice and friendly staff and Naan was great.However,as an IranianI Don’t recommend this restaurant as the food ( kabab Kubide) was so greasy , like oil dropping of each bite and they’ve added turmeric instead of Saffron which is not in the traditional recipe.

The staff and the food were amazing. We came in late (21:00) without a reservation. This was no problem and we could order anything from the menu. I could recommend number 24 on the menu. Truly amazing food.

In Iran, they say if you want to judge the quality of a restaurant, try its koobideh kebab. I have to say, the koobideh kebab at Saffron Restaurant was excellent. Very good and friendly service, and reasonable prices. Highly recommended

Delicious dishes and big portions

Service was poor, yet we were charged a service fee. The irony is that we are paying for inadequate service.

Myself and three other friends enjoyed a lovely dinner here at saffron. The starters were wonderful and the mains did not disappoint as well. I will definitely be returning and recommend for everyone to try as well. The service from sana and pouriya was fantastic too!! Thank you so much!!

We had delicious stew with grilled lamb, served with warm Persian bread and smoky aubergines. Exquisite!

Never again!!! Been ordering for some time, food was good...thought by approx 2 weeks ago made another order, got food poisoning really bad, barely made a full recovery just a few days ago, this must have been the worst in my life. Do not know what happened that day, who is responsabile about this but I will not risk again by ordering from Saffron, ever! So never again!!!

I am Persian and have eaten many ghormeh sabzi dishes in my home. This was by far the best - the lamb was cooked so well! The staff are very friendly and the service was wonderful.

I had been to Saffron 7 years ago and loved the food so much, so when I came up from my home on the South coast to meet my daughter in Richmond, I took her for dinner there. She loved the Chenjeh Makhsos (No.31) kebabs she had and I ordered the chicken Fesenjan which I had had on my last visit - delicious! The new owner said they didn't have the Fesenjan on their menu to begin with but lots of customers asked for it, so they reinstated it on their menu and it was as delicious (walnut & pomegranate sauce) as my first time tasting it. Lovely, cosy, restaurant with very friendly staff.

The food was great my only concern was that the bill included a 10% service charge without showing it explicitly. That is to say that the amounts listed on the bill did not add up to the total. To get to the total amount you had to add 10%.I was happy to pay the 10%and would have added it, but I did not like this approach, which might have led someone to double tip. The food is still good and the (12.5%) service charge is now clear on the bill

Very nice Persian food And very friendly

This was my first time ordering food from Zaferan, and I have to say it was truly low quality and terrible. The Joojeh Kebab was tasteless, and the Kabab Koobideh had an overwhelming flavor of solidified fat. I was completely dissatisfied and will never choose this place again.

We had such a lovely night there. The staff were very welcoming, and the food was amazing and delicious. Everyone was so kind and hospitable. Thank you, Saffron, for creating a wonderful memory for us!

I dined at saffron for lunch today and it was honestly amazing. I’ve tried my fair share of Persian food but saffron definitely takes first place! The staff were so friendly and welcoming and the interior was a wonder to look at with all the art and trinkets around! I was seated downstairs but had a look on the second floor and ir was wonderful, will definitely come back with family and friends to sit upstairs as it feels like your own private place! Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Richmond or looking for somewhere nice and well priced to eat! I also learned that Saffron has been there for over 30 years! No wonder its still there its amazing, defo recommend! 10/10!!

Restaurant Review I recently visited this cosy and quiet restaurant with my family. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, making it a lovely spot for a relaxed meal. The service was absolutely amazing – the waitress was incredibly attentive and made sure our table was well cared for throughout the evening. The food arrived very quickly, which was a pleasant surprise. While most of the dishes were delicious, I found the koobideh chicken slightly dry, but it wasn’t a major issue. Overall, it was a great dining experience, and I’d definitely recommend it for anyone looking for a comfortable place with excellent service!
