Sabroso Tex Mex in St. Helens

This is the third time we have ordered takeaway from here and it’s about time to post a review…this place is amazing, the food is out of this world and the service and delivery speed excellent. Thank you and we will be ordering again very soon!!!

The food was 5/10 (Chillli-con-carne), 7/10 Burrito and 2/10 (chips). The overall value for money was very poor (4/10) as the meal cost over £40. The chips were especially overpriced (£3.50 for about 30 chips was ridiculous). I WON'T be using Sabroso again and I can't recommend it to others either.

No surprise it is always busy, delicious food, we ordered on Saturday night and food took around an hour to be delivered which is standard if it arrived within 15 mins from St Helens to Widnes where we are I’d be worried, beautifully fresh cooked food and delivered piping hot, would 100% recommend the chicken Tinga I’ve personally had it myself now on the tacos and burritos and it is TOO DIE FOR, bottle of Prosecco was chilled too which absolutely made my night - all in all for two adult main meals, massive side portions desserts and alcoholic drinks you’d pay triple for the quality in a city centre. Can’t wait for our next order next weekend we’re going to try the tater tots and quesadilla

No exaggeration, this is the worst takeaway I have ever eaten. The chips and tater tots were soggy as if they had been stood under a warmer for an hour. The chicken tenders were swimming in a disgusting, non descript sauce. The nachos had about 8 grams of cheese on the top. The only half decent thing were the corn dogs, but they too where cold. Please don’t be fooled by the pictures on the website. That is not what you receive. And to add to all this it was delivered late. If I could give 0 I would. Extremely disappointed

Delicious hot Mexican - ordered for the first time tonight and it was fab. Ordered the chicken enchilada / beef chili box and got a free portion of cheese churros. Will definitely order again

I ordered beef chilli nachos and curry lazo loops from Sabroso's website for delivery to my hotel. As I'm not from here, I assumed when they accepted my order that I wasn't too far from the restaurant. However as soon as I paid and submitted the order I got a message to say the order would take an extra 20 mins, making expected delivery time an hour and ten minutes. Ha! It took them just under two hours to get to me. And when the food arrived I honestly wished they hadn't bothered. The nachos were all glued together with congealed cold cheese, the chilli was tepid and the guacamole seemed to have had only a passing familiarity with avocado. The churros were flaccid anaemic loops of stodge sitting in a smear of sticky chocolate-ish syrup and lacking the promised dusting of cinnamon sugar. It was largely inedible. I wish I'd listened to the critical reviews and not thought "it's a Wednesday in January, it'll be fine!". They claimed to be too busy to get the food out promptly but if this is the quality they're serving, it's a mystery why. Maybe it's better if you're local or eat at the restaurant but I wouldn't risk it after my experience.

Little rocky start but they sorted it and it was great in the end. Lovey people recommend churros there lovely

Never had any problems in the past but tonight feel very let down, I ordered for a delivery at 18.25pm which turned up at 17.15pm I rang the restaurant and the lady on the phone was lovely and apologised and arranged for collection of the food, which they did and rescheduled the order for 18.30pm at 18.55pm still no sign of them so rang back to say they were a few minutes away finally at 19.10pm the food arrived. I accept we all make mistakes but to receive my food 40mins late after been delivered and hour and 15 minutes early not really very professional.

AWFUL, the staff are so rude and unprofessional, the food was 2 hours late and they cancelled the order. AVOID, the place was good in the past, now it's awful. Do not go to Sabroso

Ordered for delivery, not the best but edible, nachos were completely soft if not soggy, the dipping sauce was missing from both portions of Bunuelos so basically paid £12 for mini dough balls, tater tots were soggy, Delivery took a long time but I didn’t realise it was so far away so that’s on me, overall it was tasty, I appreciate the fact that the chilli beef and pulled pork were in separate tubs from the tacos, the cheese sauce should be too, that would improve the nachos.

I have ordered from there multiple times and they keep cancelling my order I think it is shocking as all I want to do is enjoy a Mexican

Amazing friendly service, I collected my food because they lovely manager said it would be quicker for me to collect but he would gladly deliver himself, which I thought was above and beyond excellent service. However, I chose to collect and within 25 minutes I was met with smiles all round and my takeaway packaged up piping hot - they literally gave me some cardboard for under it as it was so Hot! The decor was gorgeous, cleanest restaurant I’ve ever collected a takeaway from, I felt very safe as they have safety procedures In place to keep everyone distanced. Worth going to have a look at the Christmas decorations as they was lovely. Highly recommend the chicken dishes as it’s slow cooked, the chicken enchilada was so tasty and filling. Lots of options for all the family 10\10 can’t wait to order again

Ordered food through JustEat, something like 18:45 - 19:00, deliver expected between 19:50 - 20:00. Called the restaurant at 20:25 because on the website, the food was marked as 'delivered', but still nothing arrived. The restaurant said 'we are very busy but the driver should be at yours briefly, it is 5 minutes away...'. New delivery expected by 20:35. 20:40 called again... Same story about how busy they were but the driver should arrive briefly, it is only 5 minutes away... Then a 'manager' took the phone and at my complains he first hung up on me and, when called back he just cancelled my order!!!!!!!!

Not the nicest of areas but a decent quality burrito nonetheless. Big portions (regular was easily enough) and not dissimilar to benitos hat. They also do a mean rocky road.

My partner ordered through just eat. We clearly stated no beans in my burrito, this is due to an allergy I have. The food arrived 20 minutes after the given time and as we were hungry I bit straight into my burrito. I found only then that it contained kidney beans to which I had an immediate reaction and had to use my epi-pen to stop things escalating. I then rang the restaurant to explain what had happened. I was told that I should've checked the website for ingredients in my food and should have told them I had an allergy. I told them that I couldn't have beans in my dish on the original order, their response "we assumed that you would know there were kidney beans in it" Thanks to your assumption I literally could've died if I was somewhere without my epi-pen. Then to not even apologise and blame the customer is disgusting. No refund offered, no replacement, nothing!!! It is your responsibility to ensure that an ingredient isn't used if someone tells you not to. I hope your attitude changes and one day you don't kill somebody

First visit and we can’t wait to try more things on the menu. The food was amazing and staff super helpful . It was exactly what we needed - something different from the usual Saturday night takeaways . The food made the night . Look forward to eating in and trying that experience. We drove to pick it up well worth it . Had to change into my Covid comfy pants I’m stuffed. There’s gonna be a fight over the leftovers.

Wow wow wow! The food from Sabroso is some of the best I’ve had in a long time. Great options available, great prices and most importantly, absolutely delicious food! We had a Mexican themed family buffet, exploring various mains and sides, and it totally exceeded our expectations. If you haven’t tried this gem of a restaurant/takeaway yet, then I recommend you do. If you have tried them, then you already know how good this place is.

Food is amazing, ordered online with 20% discount. Informed chef of nut allergy on order, within minutes chef rang to inform me that food will be made exactly how I asked. Brilliant customer service.

I had high hopes for this restaurant based on the reviews but Unfortunately I can’t say I very much enjoyed my first and potentially last trip to Sabroso. Firstly let me say that we got the food as a takeaway. Now, I’m not a big fan of writing bad reviews. I would rather write a review praising the establishment to allow others to try as we have. However, we were mislead by the reviews and feel that maybe we caught them on a bad day. Nevertheless we had a bad experience. We started with some soft chicken tacos which *spoiler alert* were the best thing that we tried. The flavour was great. The meat quantity was perfect. A great little starter if you’re willing to share. I was getting really excited at this point. However, it’s a slow decline from here. The fried jalapeños were not great. Felt and tasted manufactured if I’m quite honest and with the chilli dip to go with it, which was most certainly ‘crucials extra hot chilli sauce’ that you get in most takeaways these days, I was feeling slightly let down. You would think a Mexican/ tex mex restaurant would at least make a good chilli sauce. For the main, I had a Beef Chilli burrito, which I asked to be made a little spicier, and it Was flavourless. Mainly tasted like cheese and was packed with rice, which I understand that’s what a burrito should be But there was barely any meat/ chilli. I was thinking if my chicken tacos were that tasty I can’t wait for the burrito but it was bland. No flavour to the Mexican rice and there wasn’t any spice to be found. I was very disappointed to say the least. The missus had chicken enchiladas and had this to say: large portion with a substantial amount of chicken but could only really taste tomatoes. Too saucy and rather flavourless. The onion rings and sweet potato fries tasted like they came from a packet. Overall a solid 2 out of 5. I had high hopes from the reviews but it really wasn’t much to shout about. Nothing really Mexican in sight except the tacos. Do not let our review stop you from trying the food for yourselves and maybe you’ll have a better experience If you eat in the restaurant rather than a takeaway. Enjoy yourselves. Nick and Becky.

I went there just before christmas with my yoga class ,i had chilli and it was lovely they even brought natchos and sour cream to cool it i would definitely go back again ,the staff couldent do enough for great service top marks .

Went out to celebrate an absent friends birthday, wonderful pulled pork bowl and a very tasty chilli dog, churros for desert and a couple of lovely tasty cocktails to raise a glass to a very dear friend and dad. Owner even spent time showing us all the different gins and rums.

My husband and I had been given a Groupon voucher for this restaurant that we could only use on a Monday evening. I wasn't really looking forward to it as the pictures didn't really do the restaurant any justice. We had though a lovely meal but I was enjoying it so much I forgot to take proper pictures. The food was good and the service was excellent. Would definitely recommend a visit.

Just been here for the first time, the food was so tasty, the staff are so friendly and the place is spotlessly clean, we couldn’t fault it and will defo be going again, didn’t even know this place existed, right in my door step too !

We went for the first time this week. The restaurant is nicely decorated and very clean, 5 star food Hygiene too.We all ordered a different dish the service was quick but not hurried, the food was excellent, fresh and tasty, the lady who took our order was very helpful when I asked for mine to be extra spicy.We will return.

My five start review is driven by the wonderful waitress we had. We were a party of 12 and I am one of the most awkward people that can dine out, allergic to garlic, onion, dairy, gluten, soy and the list goes on. The waitress went back and forth from the kitchen about 5 times to try and find something I could have. She was amazing and went above and beyond what I would ever expect. I usually am so embarrassed eating out but she did everything humanly possible to be kind and accommodating.

Ordered food for pick up, food was so good and it was piping hot. First time we’ve been here and definitely would go back and sit in the restaurant as we thought it was just take out til we picked our food up! :-)

I can't explain how good this place is.....When I've had my nephew, we've been to Frankie and Bennys, Lymewood Farm and Pizza Hut and it's been like eating basic food in a zoo. Sabroso served my nephew a top quality beef burger with chips and dip, I ordered the chilli beef enchilada and there was so much on the plate I cudnt finish it (and I hate wasting food). My nephew loved it as he was fussed and there was such a warm family atmosphere, not like being treated like a number at all the other places we've eaten. I'll be going back every week.

Me and my sister have ordered from here a few times now and each time the food has been amazing. It is always piping hot when it arrives and is always cooked how you ask. I’m quite a fussy eater so rant in advance to ask if I could change things around and they were more than happy to be of help. The food came exactly how I asked and was delicious. Will definitely keep ordering from here. May be slightly expensive but it’s worth every penny! The staff who we spoken too aswell on the phone (male voice and chef) were lovely.

Visited on Sat 5th Oct for my sons birthday meal. Brilliant food, service was very good, reasonable prices and good menu choice. Would highly recommend

Rude Male staff member. I was shouted at for complaining ..... My night was simply ruined and What should have been a pleasant and convenient experience resulted in me being shouted at and no food being enjoyed.

Visited the place for my nieces b-day last night and was very disappointed.

Constantly been hearing about what a lovely place sabroso is. So we visited the restaurant on Saturday me and my partner. Well great first impression the staff are all smiley and waiting for you for your arrival time. Sat us right in the window so we could see inside and outside.

Never disappointed here - great food, cocktails and service - highly recommended and be sure to have an Expresso Martini as a dessert accompaniment

Nacho's were a bit chewy. Beer is pricey. Burritos and churros lovely. Good service and attentive waitress.

We have had take away many times so knew the food was good but the service and welcome in the restaurant made it even better! Massive positions of food which was all fresh and very hot. If you like cocktails the Strawberry daiquiris are amazing!

Can not be happier with our meal from Sabroso last weekend. We've been to the restaurant in the past and loved it, the staff, the atmosphere absolutely wonderful. So when we found they delivered to us we were delighted!

We visited Sabroso after driving past and thought we would try it out. For a vegetarian and vegan the menu doesnt have a lot of choice but we were informed by the owner that they can adapt most to suit so always ask. We had the mushroom abd pepper tacos to start which were delicious and the mushroom and pepper fajitas abd three bean chilli enchiladas. Would definitely recommend. The staff were also extremely friendly and helpful.

Made very welcome on arrival For my aunties 60th birthday as she’s a regular at the place. You got to choose from a lot of dishes on the menu and The kind waitress helped me with some of the meals as I didn’t know what some of the options were e.g tostilocos (which were very tasty). Great atmosphere and all round great service. Will be back again.

Not impressed, first time visiting here and It was a let down. Felt rushed, things missing from order, place was far too warm to be comfortable and the drinks prices were unacceptable for the kind of establishment it is. Wont be returning

Visited for a baby shower and as it was my first time was excited but we paid £10 per person for one portion of chips to share between five people and 4 small quesqadillas filled with kidney beans and a plate of crisps with dips thrown on. I also felt rushed to eat as staff came and cleared plates whilst we were still eating. Had we been able to order from the main menu I'm sure we would have had something we enjoyed and it would have been plentiful. Drinks were expensive. I just think we felt let down by the whole experience and felt sorry for the mum to be as she felt like she had to apologise and she should have just enjoyed her time and not been left with this bitter experience. Also the room was decorated beautifully (externally I think) but was absolutely boiling hot with no escape from it which made it uncomfortable.

Food was ok, not enough chips to go round each table, it was only £10 each so can’t complain although I paid £10 for my daughter and she’s only 6 and she ate nothing, drinks are so over priced, £5 for a magners £5 for a shandy, staff were pleasant enough would we visit again? Sadly not x

We took advantage of an offer which was 3 courses for two for £19.95. It was a fixed menu but we did add some sides because we were unsure what the portion size would be.

I found this takeaway to be very poor.

Fantastic food as always and great service, don’t understand why someone would comment saying it’s not authentic Mexican food that’s not what it claims to be it’s Tex Mex . Its a great atmosphere and family run which makes it all the better 👏👏

We visited Sabroso last night for our wedding anniversary and as we have a small child we needed to choose somewhere that wasnt too formal and didn't fancy the usual pub food.

Came here when they first opened in Thatto heath just on the corner of leslie road. I use to have a nice chat to the owners and the food was always exceptional. They have really upgraded in every aspect since moving into the town centre aswell!

Been wanting to visit here for ages and for a variety of reason we've never quite made it.

A last minute decision to go here for lunch on a very wet & miserable day. What a pleasant surprise. A lovely place, great surroundings. Myself husband & daughter had fajhitas - wow they were delicious very tasty & plentiful as were the fries. Staff very friendly & polite, such a shame they didn’t have many customers. We will defiantly be back, highly recommended.

We have been a regular for take outs from here even before it moved to George Street, and decided to go in for our meal this time. Lovely friendly staff, gorgeous cocktails and the food as always AMAZING!! We had the chicken fajita and chilli beef burrito and was not disappointed, nachos is a must too Thank you we will definitely be returning x

My new fave eating place in St Helens. Lovely staff who really seem to like their jobs. Food fantastico! 4 of us had a mixture of nachos, burritos and fajitas everything was spot on. So reasonably priced too. C u soon!

We ordered from the takeaway menu and had food delivered, we were sent a delivery time which was met. Ordered several items however when I checked the order the fries and sweet potato fries were missing. When I looked at the confirmation they were not on there. I definately selected them, No idea what happened but no problem my mistake. A small issue is I left a comment for no lettuce on a burger but it was missed.

My all time favourite takeaway! Generous portions, tasty food and the owner and staff are always really friendly!! I have also sat in a couple of times and the service is brilliant. You really do not feel like you’re sitting in St Helens, you feel like you’re on holiday haha. Ive been quite a few times now and will continue to eat at your restaurant/takeaway. Money very well spent ! I have already recommended to many family and friends and will continue to do so.

Off the cuff visit when my visiting teenage son wanted to go Mexican. We received a very friendly greeting and were seated immediately. Drinks order was taken as soon as we were settled. I had a small plate of nachos to start. Small? It was a very generous portion and delicious. My partner had ribs and son had chicken tenders. Both were very satisfied. A bowl of chilli, enchiladas and a cheeseburger for mains. All very tasty and filling. So filling that I couldn't manage a dessert but my partner and son shared some churros which were scoffed in two seconds flat! Friendly staff, efficient service, clean and stylish environment and good value for money. We will definitely be going back.

Visited with my husband Friday early evening. We ordered starters of ribs, chicken strips, and nachos, and mains of quesadilla and fajita. All food very tasty and the tortilla for both mains were packed full of filling. Staff were very diligent and friendly.

After reading all the good reviews and being a big Mexican food fan we decided to order a takeaway from here for the first time this evening, we waited an hour for our food to be delivered and couldn't have been more disappointed. The chicken in the enchilada tasted like what I could only think cat food might taste like, it was a very greasy very salty burnt to the container portion of food and the rest of our order wasn't much better. This is without doubt the very worst Mexican food I've ever been served and won't be ordering again.

Gorgeous family run restaurant and just what the area needs! Value for money is amazing, our party of 7 could not get over the quality of the food, considering how reasonably priced the menu was.

Went for meal last night, I had ribs and chicken enchiladas, husband had chicken tenders and fajitas. Food was stunning, really reasonably priced, we couldn’t manage to get a cab, so even got a lift home!! Genuinely the nicest people ever. Can’t recommend highly enough ❤️

Serious quality, great service and great local independent business, not many restaurants better in the area...never actually tried Mexican however I was not disappointed... unbelievable flavour and fresh food

Decided after looking at this place for a while to try it after seeing good reviews.

We usually really enjoy our food from here and have been ordering from Sabroso regularly since they originally opened in 2015. Today however was disappointing. We ordered 2 pulled pork burritos (which are delicious) - when they arrived they were both labelled as pork but one was actually chicken. I personally did not enjoy this as much (personal preference) and it was disappointing when I was looking forward to pulled pork. Additionally, we requested a specific delivery time for our order as we were not at home but the food arrived 30 minutes earlier than requested. A family member took the order for us and consequently when we got home to eat it (at the time we had actually requested), the food was cold. Cold nachos with cheese, cold sweet potato fries and cold burritos aren't that nice - especially when you've paid good money and have been looking forward to your normally great food.

This is a truly great restaurant, clean and family run. The food was absolutely excellent, you look at the portion sizes and they are great.

Found this place by chance and really enjoyed it, big menu with lots of choice. Great service, really modern and good atmosphere.

A party of six visited without booking on a Tuesday evening. The staff greeted us on arrival and instantly found us a nice table.

I have visited Sabroso three times now, with the wife and with friends, each time the service has been as good as it gets.

For me this was my first experience of Mexican food, while the others have been before and told me I won't be disappointed.

Visited for the first time with my wife and daughter. Lovely welcome from Paul and really nice atmosphere to the place. Service was really good and food piping hot and presented lovely.

We visited on Friday evening for a family meal and the service was amazing. The servers were polite and friendly and the owners made us feel extremely welcome. The food was up there with the best Mexican food I've eaten, the pulled pork in particular was delicious. The portion sizes were generous, and the option to take away desserts was brilliant. Thank you to the Sabroso team for a lovely evening!

The food was very good, a nice feel to the place and comfortable table/seating. We would go back here for casual dining midweek or with friends for more of a social meal!

I was extremely impressed, the food was tasty with a very tempting menu. I had the pulled pork burrito, there was certainly no scrimping on the filling I thoroughly enjoyed it! The staff where welcoming and friendly, we will certainly return.

Visited today for a light lunch. Only availability was main/usual menu though this was quite varied (sharing options, smaller portions). Opted for chilli burrito with some chipotle and peanut sauce on the side. My companion had pulled beef burrito. Both declared meal super though as I found a little heavy for a light lunch! Coffee afterwards very nice too. Staff could not have been more helpful. Being picky, no warm water in sink in toilets (but spotlessly clean). Happy to recommend and look forward to future visit.

First time visit at Sabroso this evening with friends and will definitely be returning. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food was lovely. An excellent addition to St.Helens town centre!

I enjoyed a girlie night here on Wednesday and was pleasantly surprised by the good food (very reasonable prices), venue and wonderful service.

Great staff lovely food great prices, Bit off beaten track for town but well Worth looking for,(near station) could not recommend it more we only had starters but will be back for more excellent in every way

We visited for the first time last night. The atmosphere was relaxed and happy, the staff very friendly and helpful with good recommendations if you were unsure about the menu. The food was of excellent quality and very tasty. The menu has a good variety so there is lots to try on future visits!

Been 3 times since it opened, once for lunch, just the 2 of us. It was lovely. As a Friday night treat with friends, it was lovely. And as a Saturday night-we've had too many drinks to cook-lets eat out, and it was lovely! The managers are fabulously attentive. The Mac and cheese is incredible!

Have been numerous times, friendly staff, great food and great environment. The owners are very friendly too and make you feel really welcome!

It was nice to see another choice in St Helens, but its not a great restaurant.

Called in for lunch, with my daughter. Had been dying to try this place. It was fabulous. The food was delicious and the staff were friendly and attentive. Lovely decor and ambience. Highly recommend.

A nice relaxed atmosphere.the chilli is really good.and the enchiladas are very nice to.we had four different meals and they were all very good.will eat here again.
