Popped in for a drink was very impressed with the decor good service and friendly vibe about the place. Would come again for a quiet drink if other bars in town too busy

Very welcoming little bar with a nice cozy atmosphere. Service was fast and friendly and the music playing just the right volume. Nice lighting adding to the ambiance and a better selection of cask ales than I expected from a place that has a cocktail lounge feel. Will definitely return and recommend.

Very nice place to visit , 2 or 3 real ales on usually a Shrewsbury brewery called Salopian bit citrusy but a top brew for me , camra discount as well great, it's a really nice place to visit and the staff who where on when I visited couldn't do enough really nice, certainly visit more frequently now.

Called here for a drink on a Christmas night out with friends. Great drink selection and lovely bar staff. Only negative was that I found it very cramped as it isn't a large venue.

Having been a regular since it opened 7 years ago or so...I was surprised to see it was closing for renovation and an upgrade...but it probably was due. And so I popped in Sunday to see what was a-new....and what a different look. Darker, moodier, more leathery, more sophisticated, more organised bar area....and still quite a lot of the same old faces. Really nice feel to it and great background music choice. Looking forward to returning for an evening out soon.

The News Room continues its stature as the original "alternative" bar to drink in in St Helens. And by alternative, I mean that everyone is welcome and every one is served. Bar staff are ever lovely (except when there is a "crisis" and they have to huddle around the corner on their phones or just gossiping 😜) Music selection is always spot on...and there are requests should you wish for things. One of the top 5 best non-food bars I've ever been in ever....

Nice place but you'll probably feel a bit out of place if you're younger than 50.

Started to use this bar on our weekly afternoon drinks session. Nice small bar, plenty of choice of different drinks, brands and flavours that aren’t the norm, who wants the norm anyways ? I like a bar that puts a bit of effort in. Just needs to bigger and have more seats, pleasant staff, especially one with long ref hair, beautiful, chirpy and pleasant. I’d say a tad more expensive than its nearest competitors but you get what you pay for I guess, maybe if you buying double spirits you should just charge ££1 extra like everyone else, over £10 for a double gin and a pint is a bit excessive.

Great local bar, with lovely atmosphere any time of the day. The whole place is actually small and intimate yet when busy still feels spacious enough and never an issue getting served. Their choice of ales is good and varied and reasonably priced for an independent, non-tied bar (they're always the best ones aren't they!!) Landlord is great and chatty...the bar staff are great...especially one (but I'm a flirt so I'll say nothing haha). Not much happens in St Helens that is positive...this bar continues to be a positive in a negative town.

I was in here on Saturday and had an absolute ball. The staff behind the bar are all brilliant and a good laugh. We were lucky enough to see the lead guy from Stilla playing in the News Room before they go off on their tour. Spent many nights in here and always have good fun. Call in and get a beer, it's a relaxed bar with a good atmosphere.
