called in to get baps to make a packed lunch but the lady said they dont do baps. Got a couple of scones which I was told were half price as they were left from the day before (they were fine), seemed to be quite a alot of stuff left over from the day before. Not much choice in tray bakes and some of the stuff looked rather well done!

An afternoon trip to Mussenden Temple and I happened upon this gem of a bakery. It was meant to be. After an unsuccessful attempt to find good sodas and farls in Derry/Londonderry I happened upon Ruth's on a wander to the beach. Just like I used to make (my mother never did! ☺️). Tiny bakery with a large range of baked products. Scones, farls and sodas were bought, and the produce was wonderful! What a find! Do yourself a favour and go out of your way for these goods.

This little bakery is a true gem of Castlerock! The ladies who work here are so nice and helpful. Everything I've had from here has been very tasty, from the scones and sausage rolls to my favorite, the wheaten bread. I will definitely miss this place when my time in Castlerock is over!

Been going to Ruth's bakery every year for last 20+ years when staying in nearby caravan park for holidays. It is important to go early if you want fresh baked scones as they don't last long!!! Absolute must in the caravan with some butter, jam and big mug of tea!!! My ideal heaven right there ♥️

A visit to Ruth's is a must. This is what the name homebakery means, and certainly not that factory produced rubbish.

This is the most darling little shop and a must if you are visiting Castlerock and the nearby attractions of Downhill Demesne! Ruth was so kind to my friend and I and her baked goods are so delicious. I took home a box containing a jam sponge, fifteens, a mincemeat pie square, and a lemon coconut square "for the week" for under 3 pounds and devoured them all before nightfall! I highly recommend stopping in!

Came across this gem of a place whilst having a wee stroll around our accommodation. Smells were inviting so I popped in for a look. The sausage rolls looked the most appetising so I had one....very meaty and tasty!!

Ruth's is a busy spot because it's the only place in the village with bread etc baked on site. So it's always fresh.Just a pity that there is no interaction with customers. The unwritten rule seems to be 'No smiling in here!' But don't let that put you off.

Called in for some hot food but only had some sausauge rolls that needed to be microwaved. Bought some scones that were nice enough. Would have bought more but the sales person wasn't interested.

Like many of my generation, who grew up as children of The Troubles, I left Northern Ireland for greener pastures in my early twenties. Whether in GB, somewhere in the EU or North America, there were facets of home we all missed. Perhaps more than we wanted to admit. Family and friends obviously. But also items like Tayto cheese and onion crisps. Soda farls. Potato bread. A local brand of tea. And the infamous brown lemonade! One of the joys of my teens and of living in Castlerock, was the Friday afternoon ritual of buying pasties in Ruth's. Sometimes potato bread. Sometimes caramel squares or fruit squares. However, wherever in the world I happened to be living, it was Ruth's pasties that made me salivate every time I thought of them and weigh up the pros and cons of returning home, for the thousandth time. Almost every time I go back after many years, to a place I enjoyed in my teens and twenties in Northern Ireland or elsewhere, I inevitably feel a pang of disappointment at what I find. Rarely does the reality live up to the idealised memories that I sometimes carry with me, on my travels. I suppose the lesson is. Enjoy and embrace change, because there's no fighting it. To live in one's past is to rob oneself of a future. From time to time when home and more often now that I've returned for a while, I drop into Ruth's for what was the ultimate comfort food of my youth. Her famous (to those in the know) pasties. I never fail to be surprised. Right down to my toes. How the pasties from Ruth's haven't changed one iota, in about forty years. And thank God, or whatever deity you worship, that this is so. Because Ruth's pasties are culinary perfection. A perfect appearance. A perfect taste. A perfect texture. A perfect aroma. Utterly, utterly sublime. The fact that Ruth's is still producing these little pieces of culinary joy exactly as they always have done is nothing short of amazing. Similarly, Ruth's produces fruit, wheaten and treacle sodas, potato bread and a huge variety of cakes that all melt in the mouth.I know I'm not alone in how I feel about Ruth's. Comments across social media echo what I've said here and often are put so much better than my poor efforts. Many five star establishments I know personally, struggle to keep consistency in their food offering over time. That Ruth's has achieved all this and more over decades is incredible. Next time you're passing and you see Ruth's door open or lights on, show yourself some love and stop in for a treat that you'll remember for a very long time indeed. And if you like what you find, keep returning because Ruth's truly is the exception that proves the rule. Sometimes we really can return to the favourite places of our past and relive in vivid detail those same pleasures we experienced years ago. As Clive James once said about his own emmigration from Sydney to London in the sixties. To experience the joy of coming home, you first have to leave. Luckily for those that return and for those that never left, some things, like Ruth's, remain the same.

We were there 3 days in a row last week. The place was very clean, efficient, very friendly and helpful staff. Coffee was very good, the cakes excellent as was the ice cream. The prices were completely acceptable. The last day there was a tall blonde lady working I have seldom seen anyone so effective, efficient and friendly. All the staff were brilliant. Anytime we are in portrush we will definitely be visiting Morellis Portrush

Consistently excellent. King Prawn Curry is v good. Plentiful large prawns and a very tasty curry with a good kick. Always ask for a milder curry for the kids which they love as much as I. Does gluten free options on request.
