To our shame, today was our first visit to Russells for quite sometime. On the evidence of today, we shall not leave it so long again. In short, and clearly just in our opinion, Russells is the best restaurant bar none in the North Cotswolds. Let’s start with the staff - we are all too aware of the difficulties of finding and retaining good waiting staff. What ever it is that Russells ownership and management are doing, they have clearly found some magic dust. Everyone was professional, welcoming, pleasant and clearly well trained and supervised. They were a credit to their leadership. And then the food. Obviously those folk behind the scene led by Head Chef Sam Parsons are as talented as their colleagues front of house. The food was exquisite in every regard. A special mention for the leg of lamb and the French onion soup but the two standouts were a risotto that compared with the best anywhere and the crab starter which was just stunning. But there really was nothing that was less than superb. And as a lovely touch at the end of this 70th birthday celebration was a small plate with some brilliant petit four. There are cheaper places to eat in the area, but very few, if any that offer better value for what is a superb dining experience. Close neighbour venues would do well to learn from Russells as to what a fabulous restaurant offers. We are locals and have no hesitation in saying that Russells is very clearly our new Number 1 in the area. Well done to everyone at the enterprise. We will return and very soon.

We're foodies and saw this had a Michelin recommendation, so were really looking forward to it. The waiting staff were young and didn't really seem like they knew what they were doing, but we thought the food would be good. At £42 for a steak, you'd expect it to be. There were no specials at all, which seemed odd for a Saturday night The steak was OK, but only OK, we'd had a much better one in Grill a couple of nights before for around the same price. It came with truffled rosti which had been cooked in fat that was not hot enough so the entire thing was drenched in oil to the point of being inedible, you couldn't taste the truffle at all, which was massively disappointing. The parmesan crusted shallot was nice as was the tomato, but these shouldn't have been the stars of such an expensive dish. The souffle dessert was nice, but they served the ice cream accompaniment straight on a slate, which is never a good way of serving it, I thought people had stopped doing that by now, so it'[s a bit disappointing when you see it In all it felt like either they were having an off night, or the whole place has gone downhill since the last Michelin guide visit I think they need to up their game a bit if they are going to compete with Grill, especially as so many dishes on the menu were very similar

Fabulous spot in beautiful Broadway. We had to book in advance and I can see why. The food was gorgeous; delicious, fresh and piping hot and cooked with great care. We have been to Russell’s once before a few years ago. I believe it has been taken over, not the warmest of welcomes BUT 8 have noted from our time on Broadway the struggle hospitality are having with good end engaging staff. The girl who seated us was ok, just not vrry warm, told us if we want side dishes we have to pay for thsm, all I was asking for was a recommendation in terms of do we actually need a side dish snd perhaps you can recommended one or two. Anyway, the food was very well presented and very tasty. We live in Hertfordshire and eat out a lot in London and locally. We were quite surprised at how expensive everywhere (almost everywhere) was. A good solid meal but staff training msy help, also have s think about the service charge, Broadbean tapas 10 per cent. Much better

Whilst staying in one of their excellent rooms, we decided to treat ourselves on our last night and ate in Russells restaurant. Good selection of menu choices. As expected the food was really really good. Quality and presentation were second to none. Portion sizes were fair. All the staff were helpful, knowledgeable, efficient and friendly. There were a lot of wine by the glass options which were all fairly well priced. Would we eat here again? - Yes, as a treat.

Great food, great service. The soufflés and the longhorn beef are just stand out dishes equal to quality of food at Michelin starred restaurants we have previously eaten at but in contrast to the normal a Michelin small portion experience the portion sizes at Russell's were just right We had our dog with us and we were welcomed in the bar area. We were treated to the full restaurant experience - other establishments could learn from this as often you are treated as second class citizens and banished to dark areas - Russell's stands out as really valuing all customers.

We stayed two nights recently in the fine big room 4 at the top of the building. Very comfortable and spacious; a trivial annoyance was the very bright green emergency light which disturbed our sleep. The food was all very enjoyable. We ate fish which was well prepared and well served, but it was not really fine dining. However, overall a good choice both to stay and eat.

Not entirely sure how this restaurant has the ratings it has. Food was tasty, however they forgot an olive dip of one of the starters (the main part, which they then brought when asked for), and then prawns with the £28 bream. I have no massive issue with the actual taste of the meal (flavours weren't bad but certainly could have been thought through more, however I mentioned the lack of prawns twice and quite literally received a shrug of the shoulders on both occasions and no offer of an apology or similar. For a £28 fish meal, which cannot be passed off as fine dining, everything should have been far better. Not awful but for the price I'm very unimpressed. There are far better places in Broadway (Lygon Arms as an example) and in nearby villages so personally I'd venture elsewhere.

Despite excellent arrangements for alfresco dining and a most helpful and pleasant staff we found this establishment a little disappointing. We only required a light lunch so we opted for starters and desserts. We both chose Pate to start. The food was well presented but I found the dish to be a little short on flavour. The real problem, however, was the dessert. My wife chose Apple Crumble but found the apple undercooked. My sticky toffee pudding, with a delicious dressing, was very stodgy and not up to the standard I would expect. Certainly we shall not return. Sorry to be so negative.

Such a gem! We stayed here on our first night arriving in the Cotswolds shortly prior to the restrictions being set in place, so we’re ready to face whatever that brought. However every effort and kindliness is taken here by this owner to ensure that every person who pops by has a good experience. We stayed in the top room, decorated and decked out beautifully, and so spotlessly clean, we were only sorry we couldn’t stay longer. The breakfast was magnificent (super hot and really good quality), and we piped back for a meal one evening from the other side of the Cotswolds and that was a fantastic meal. Both food and wine - such great quality. We couldn’t have asked for more to be fair with an honesty bar and such a lovely seating area to the front of the property. Fab nights sleep (so quiet) and a lovely atmosphere, in spite of the real difficulties facing the hospitality sector right now. Everything done very properly and carefully but so politely and with such class it was good to see how ensuring safety can still be a really pleasant experience! Would definitely definitely return!Loved it.

From the first point of contact, the waitress ( we think Eastern European) put all of our backs up. ‘This job is beneath me’ type of attitude. I noticed her looking down her nose at my (attractive Polish daughter in law) and generally she had what I’d describe as having a Charisma Bypass. The food was attempting to be fine dining (ish), but frankly there were issues. The cauliflower and carrot soup was bitter. It felt as if they had only used the stalks of the cauliflower. Under seasoned and not pleasant. The attempt to produce an Indian Dahl dish was pretty poor. Stick to English stuff would be my advice to the kitchen staff. Scallops were good, but the filet steak tried to be too adventurous and there were things on the plate that just did not compliment the dish. A plain grilled fillet of beef would have been better. We did not hang around for a pudding, despite having considered having one at the outset, but the attitude of the waitress and the fact that it was getting quite warm and this was attracting flies, we decided to leave. Very disappointing.

We had just arrived in Broadway for a fews days break and dropped by Russell's for a drink late afternoon last Sunday of last week. The young waitress taking our order was rude and surly. My husband asked if they served draught beer, she replied they only serve bottled beer. However, there appeared to be pints of what looked like beer on other tables, which he pointed out. She very rudely replied, rolling her eyes, "I've already said, we only serve bottled beer, that's cider". On that note, we left. She needs either her cards or training, at present she is not suited to her job. We were looking for places to dine during our visit - we gave this place a miss, feeling it may be pretentious. Went over to the Broadway Hotel instead, very pleasant waiting staff and very well organised Covid-19 requirements.

Food reasonable, but not outstanding, and rather pricey. Desserts were the best. Service OK, but strangely cold (as was my soup which had to be reheated). I'd have preferred a stricter approach to Covid - next door table was not sanitised in between settings, cutlery not wrapped by a paper napkin, no waitresses were wearing masks. Overall we were rather disappointed, especially as this is Broadway's no. 1 restaurant on Tripadvisor. For the money don't feel I can recommend this restaurant.

We came to Russell's to enjoy and make the most of, what we thought, would be a fine dining experience. Particularly after reading reviews. We were very disappointed with our experience unfortunately. We were rushed through service. Having ordered some bread with a cocktail each to start we were asked for our order. We gave our order and asked that we be able to finish the cocktails so we could order a bottle of wine to go with the starters and main dishes. The starters came around 5 minutes after the bread which made for a bad start. The mussels were very good, however the duck breast was over cooked, tough and grey in appearance. We sent the duck back to request a less well done duck but in return received slices of overcooked duck covered in sauce. Highly likely that they just cut the original duck into slices and re-served it to us. Disgraceful. The main of seabass was good but again came very quickly after the starter. It was obvious that the staff just wanted to get the table free and go home. After the starter the service was completely absent and we were pretty appalled by the way our legitimate complaint about the duck was dealt with. Go elsewhere.

Great hotel, fantastic food. Escaped to Russell's with kids to celebrate our 20th anniversary and end of lockdown. Rooms are lovely and quiet, staff and owner are very friendly but food is exceptional: mushroom risotto, scallops, sea bass, guinea fowl, soufflé and cherry clafoutis. We plan to be back soon. It takes guts to reopen so soon after lockdown but the place was very busy and we are glad you did it. Not every place will survive the new environment but Russell's will.

We ate here for our anniversary recently, having had our booking at The Lygon cancelled, So glad that was the case, as this was a first class experience.CoVid precautions in play, but not overpowering, so still felt like a night out.Complimentary glass of fizz, great service, lovely food and a strong wine list. Good atmosphere and absolutely nothing negative to note.We will return.

Excellent 3-course dinner for four delivered for a surprise 50th birthday Zoom dinner party with family. All the food was delicious and easy to heat up according to the instructions provided, with a choice of main course - chicken or steak - served with roasted veg and either potatoes or chips. The food was delivered in plenty of time, despite us being outside the usual delivery area. Definitely highly recommended and we look forward to visiting the restaurant “in real life”, after lockdown.

A lovely place to stay in Broadway, excellent location. Really friendly and helpful staff and lovely breakfast, would definitely recommend it. I left my phone charge in the room and the hotel kindly sent it on to me - how's that for service!

Lovely restaurant, very quick service but they were busy so probably had more bookings. I can recommend the pigeon and blue cheese Choux to start and the halibut was good but slightly overcooked so going a bit dry. No room for puds but other tables selection looked good. Nice place

Our first visit and we've had a truly relaxing few days - excellent service, friendly professional staff and beautiful food. The accommodation on the whole didn't disappoint - large spacious room, comfortable king-size bed, quality furnishings. However, with no central heating and only a fan heater on the wall, it was difficult to get the temperature as we wanted - either too cold or unpleasantly warm with a noisy fan. Surely efficient, quiet heating should be a given in rooms of this price? We were also disappointed by the bathroom which was tired and in need of refurbishment. The tiles, grouting, shower screen have all seen better days and the cold tap fell off on our last day - it lets an otherwise lovely room down. On a positive note, the bath is huge and there was loads of hot water. We had beautiful food throughout our stay - lovely breakfasts, a delicious evening meal on Saturday night and wonderful Sunday lunch. Unfortunately our roast dinners were served barely warm and had to be returned to the kitchen but we were soon brought out two piping hot, fresh dinners by very apologetic staff. The only food choice I didn't enjoy was the blue cheese choux starter - as per a previous review, I really didn't expect this to be a cold starter and it was not to my taste as a result. Overall, the food and service is exceptional and I would highly recommend. A great place for a truly relaxing short break.

Another visit to Russell’s for dinner for four and another fabulous meal. Starters of blue cheese choux pastries, succulent sweet scallops and root veg risotto were followed by tender fillet steaks with unctuous truffle mash, and guineau fowl with lentils and tarragon jus. My shellfish allergy meant I questioned the ingredients of the seafood bisque sauce - no problem - the chef made me the most delicious creamy white wine sauce which caressed my delicate halibut fillet, confit fennel and potatoes Anna like a match made in heaven and I shared the balance of the sauce with the rest of the table on our sides of buttered greens and hand cut crunchy fries.....We washed the meal down with a couple of bottles of good value house wine and could only manage one pud between us - but what a pud (see pic)! Banoffee soufflé with choc and banana sorbet and rum glazed banana - ummmnn! The place was buzzing, the staff were friendly and we will be back again soon! Thanks to Andrew, Tom and the team for a great evening!

The menu was full of promise and we had a job deciding what to eat. Unfortunately the food failed to live up to that promise. The scallop starter was served on a large dinner plate making it look small, which it wasn’t, but it certainly didn’t need the salted caramel praline! The blue cheese choux didn’t deliver the hit of flavour that it should have. The main course pork had an unpleasant flavour undercutting it which we couldn’t place and the chocolate ganache was nowhere near bitter enough and had far too many other elements on the plate. The best dish was the apple strusel. Alone of our dishes it concentrated on the main ingredient and didn’t try and be too clever. It was excellent. The wines we had were good, from an interesting wine list, and the staff were friendly and efficient.

Had previously visited Broadway and tried to get a table at Russells with no luck, so this time booked in advance. Each of the dishes were perfectly cooked and presented with deliciously flavoured and textured 'extras', such as crispy salted caramel praline 'nuggets' with the scallops, a wonderful shellfish bisque sauce with the halibut, and a wonderful seafood chowder with the cod, as well as being nicely presented. The chocolate ganache was out of this world. Together with a very nice bottle of viognier from the Pays d'Oc the bill came to £125, but in my opinion this was pretty good value for money.

Ate Sunday lunch here. The warm bread rolls with assorted butters were lovely if a little well done. Starter of crispy ham hock with a cheese filled doughnut was tasty but again, very overdone and dry. Main meal of roast lamb was delicious, I couldn’t fault it. Dessert of chocolate mousse was less than average, not a nice texture and if I hadn’t read ‘chocolate’ on the menu, I’d have struggled to pinpoint the flavour.

Im going be the odd one out here because our experience was not great , we ate here last Sat 8th Feb very friendly on arrival bar man was very polite we arrived a bit early than our 8.30 booking we had a drink at the bar and chose our food from the menu we were seated and our starts arrived at 9.00pm bit late but hey no rush my scallops were very small and the dish was only just warm my partners dish was cold it was the blue cheese Chox bun but it didn't state on the menu that it was a cold starter if it had we would not have picked it as it was a horrid cold night very tasty but cold not a great start we did mention it and we got a " Ill tell the chef " but did it taste alright " the mains then arrived after another lengthy wait and this was also very disappointing I had the halibut which was overcooked and again both of our meals were only just warm just warm to eat ... we did say again that the meals were almost cold and we again got "ill tell the chef but was it tasty" ?? I understand the importance of taste but I think the fact that it should be hotish is also a big factor !! the dessert was the best part . I was so sad about it as I was doing it for my partners birthday and at £125.00 for the two of us I expected A LOT LOT better I wont be rushing back , there are some great pubs around this area with a better price tag and warmer food !! We had dinner here on Sat 8th Feb 2020... well, from entering the restaurant and being eagerly greeted by the dining room supervisor, we found the other front of house incredibly polite and helpful. Show to our table for two and then having the menu explained to us, we felt very important. I ordered a glass of red wine and it was REALLY room temperature, how nice. the mains was just amazing as was dessert. We had a fabulous evening and would not hesitate in recommending Russells to anyone who enjoys great dining experiences.

Good choice for a large family meal. Sunday roasts were tasty and portions a good size Service was fine and food came out in good time. Roast potatoes not great but all other vegetables and meat was lovely. Particularly enjoyed the mushroom starter All in all would recommend if you’re looking for somewhere that can cope well with a big group
