Rubys in Larne

The bar lounge felt dated and there were many young adolescent drinking. To make matters worse the live singer was too loud and drowned out our dining. The food itself was undercooked and nothing special. On leaving we were greeted to a fight in the car park between two young men one who was clearly drunk. I could not recommend unless the management get proper professional staff and bouncers in there.

Great service, great food and great value for money all presented well and a good menu choice would highly recommend. The staff are very friendly and helpful and we have visited here a few times and the food is always very consistent we had the 8hr slow cooked braised roast beef and the sticky chilly chicken both where delicious and the milk shakes are lovely huge and only £4 . The restaurant itself is very well decorated and spotlessly clean.

Just took the family out for dinner. Beautiful restaurant, very clean and well lit. Fast customer service but most importantly the food was excellent. The starters were very big and worth the money. Mains were also a good size. We paid £16 for 2 courses and it was well worth it. Only 1 of our party finished their meal. Live music was starting as we were leaving. All in all a great place to dine.

Place was empty on the Sunday afternoon we arrived and staff were blatantly ignoring us from we sat down,we felt we had to constantly try and get there attention as they walked past us numerous times while trying to order drinks and food,food was overly priced and horrendous,would not go back or recommend

Went here this afternoon for a meal first time. Drinks we ordered jug of orange juice. It came full of ice looked like coloured water, very little orange in it. Place felt cold we ordered soup to start X2 one chilly sticky chicken, one cock and bull, chicken and steak small. Soup came good size bowls but it was cold. We had to send back it returned hot but vegetables hard, raw carrots and raw celery. Very disappointing. Mains came, my chilly chicken was good my wife's chicken and steak fair. Asked for steak to be very well done but some pink bits in steak also no steak knife Staff need more training and pay more attention to detail. Very disappointing definitely will not be returning.

Always pleased to return here and, gosh, this time it had been far too long! I was dizzy with anticipation about the refurb, especially seeing the upgraded ladies' loos. At last, at last the 80s look has gone. All good. During the Olympics, we found ourselves watching a Rugby League match on the bar screen which was rather odd, we thought. We started with the chowder which was absolutely delicious and full of many different ingredients. We loved the very dark wheaten bread that came with it. My main was beef shortrib. This was pretty good, although more sauce would have gone down well. My husband said something similar about his lamb dish. The service was excellent. The waiter was polite and extremely pleasant. Wine by the glass comes in mini bottles. Friends had recommended dirty fries which aren't on the current menu. This wasn't a problem and we took home the very tasty dirty fries we couldn't manage. A pleasant dinner. The refurb gets rid of the sports bar feel, but I am not convinced Ruby has found her best look quite yet.

My friends were going for afternoon tea and asked me to join, I didn’t think they would be able to do much for a vegan but I was so surprised!!! Vegan scones, cream, creme brûlée, absolutely everything. So impressed, the staff were great and I’ll definitely be back, highly recommend.

My wife and I decided to go here after a trip to Whitehead. We ordered a pizza each and what can I say, they were delicious! Staff were polite and friendly and the restaurant was clean and modern. Would definitely go back!

We used to visit Rubys on a fairly regular basis but the standard of food dropped and it was becoming more of a “Lads” bar with noisy football supporters at the bar watching a number of TV screens. Unknown to us the owners carried out an extensive refurb to the layout interior and now have a very smart dining room with much better bar area and a spacious outside sun area. We decided to give it another go and can say the food was very good indeed. The staff very welcoming and attentive without being in your face. Will certainly be back, well done the owners!

Been coming to Rubys larne for long time now. There food is cheap and at a high standard. Staff could not be nicer. even when really busy, we still get our food out in a reasonable time.

Food not good, service not the best, have not returned, not a plesant experience...don't deserve a decent review...

Finally decided to try Ruby’s based on past reviews.....shame we didn’t get the same. Entering the bar I was hit with a smell of urine which was bad..until I opened the second set of double doors that lead to the bar. I couldn’t get through the doors quick enough it smelt as though I was standing in the foulest smelling toilets ever, not a great start especially when you have booked for food. Once we picked our table we were seated only a matter of minutes when a lovely waitress came to take our drink orders and give us menus. We we placed our food order and didn’t have to wait long until it was served. Then we realised why it was so quick, we had turkey & ham, which came with no consistency in the portions of the slices of meat, some were thick, some were thin, some of us had more slices of meat than others, the mashed potatoes had a skin around around them and were a weird shape as if they had been stored in a plastic bag then zapped in the microwave, then just slipped out of the bag onto the plate, the roast potatoes were small and very dry, the vegetables what can I say were just about cooked. To make things better we asked for gravy that unfortunately was as bland as the rest of the meal. Another one of our party had the lasagne which went back as full as it came, as it was way to dry to eat. We also couldn’t have more of the cocktails we wanted as they ran out of strawberry liqueur. On a good note the staff are friendly and helpful, but not sure if we would try again.

Ruby’s has come on leaps and bounds recently. Just outside the town centre of Larne, there is plenty of parking. They are adding more and more deals during the week and they are great value. They now have a ‘Beat the Clock’ menu and a BOGOF offer from 12pm to 5pm. Food is great and good quality. Only improvement I would suggest is the entrance to the bar passes the toilets and there is a slight odour. But in the bar and restaurant area everything is CLEAN and tidy and that’s what matters most.

Great food and it is a great price with amazing cocktails and good service. You wont be disappointed coming here

We went for my wife's birthday lunch. We had the 2 for 1 specials. She had the peppered steak and me the goujons. The food was lovely as always and the 2 for 1 made it even better

Constantly brilliant and reasonably priced. Offers through the week and a Sunday menu. They also takea generous % off your bill, on a Larne FC match day, if you produce your Larne FC season ticket. Friendly atmosphere anytime we're in.

I used to enjoy going to steak night at Rubys but recently it's just been going downhill.

Good food, plenty of it, however the place was empty except for ourselves and as a result lacked a little atmosphere. That aside I’d definitely go back as the service and food was great.

Going for breakfast, should be very nice, been here a few times for dinner and highly reccomend the chicken goujons!

My daughter and I were very excited to be spending one of our holiday evenings at this good eaterie. However, we were surprised to find the whole establishment seems to have undergone a refurb that has created a bar atmosphere throughout. Indeed, we found ourselves in the old bar area to eat. The tables were bare and the chairs not padded. This is a dark place, and the dark décor made it more so. Noise reverberated around the bar as there are no soft furnishings to absorb the sound while dining. The menu seemed reduced from our last visit. We were disappointed there was no seafood chowder on the starters. However the brie was absolutely delicious. As a main course we both opted for the seabass as this had been a standout dish on previous visits. Sadly, this was not the case on this occasion. The seabass was on a bed of champ with some big prawns around it. The sauce was also a light colour. The whole dish lacked any vavavoom of any description. It was very bland. What a disappointment. We shared a lovely brownie with ice-cream to finish and our bill was under £40 with three drinks. A trip to the loo confirmed my suspicion that the makeover had not extended to the toilets. Please, please do something about this! The loos are as they were in the 80s. Please, please modernise!! If you are to attract a younger clientele at the weekends you may find that diners may be looking for a refuge somewhere quieter, with more comfortable surroundings. We could see the food is good, despite our unfortunate main courses this evening. Steak night is also a great idea. However, we might struggle to imagine people taking afternoon tea in this new environment. I really hope this place can work as I am a great supporter of all things Larne. The staff were delightfully friendly and helpful, so well done on good recruitment. I really hope this bar/restaurant can do well in the future, but, as a TA user with all the reviews I have written, I feel compelled to report back.

walking into this place the first thing you notice is the immense smell of pee coming from the mens toilets, that's nice when you are coming in for a meal. We had booked for a table for 10 for a birthday and we walked in and our table was in the middle of the bar which had extremely loud music playing and was absolutely Baltic cold. The table had knives and forks and a glass each, no flowers or anything nice. We actually thought we had come into the wrong area. Very uninviting, cold and bare. the chairs were hard metal, and very uncomfortable. we had to actually ask for the music to be turned down as it was so loud we couldn't hear each other, and we were the only people in so Im not sure why it had to be so loud. we had given them a list of what everyone wanted the day before, as instructed because as they said " then we know what everyone wants and it will be quicker", so when they brought out a dish that none of us had ordered, chicken stir fry with noodles, when we told them it was not ordered by any of us ( remember they had the list in black and white so how do you get it so wrong), they took it away. They brought out a few more meals, one plate at a time I might add, obviously a plate in each hand is never heard off in here), one of which was meant to be a vegetarian stir fry with noodles. A few minutes after starting their meal, the vegetarian in our party discovered that there was in fact chicken in the meal so they had taken it back to the kitchen only to bring it out again even though they were told it was wrong, and give it to a vegetarian. The other meals were brought out one at a time. So, half our party were half way through their meal while the rest of us hadn't even been served yet. My meal came out on a freezing cold plate, and I waited 10 full minutes before my side dish arrived. When I cut into my steak it was freezing in the middle and so rare it was purple, so I sent it back, and when it came out again, it was very nice actually. So, dessert came, and we put our orders in and it took 20 minutes for a piece of cheesecake to be sliced and out on a plate. !!!!!! Totally disgusted with the whole experience. £200 wasted. Needless to say that I and none of my party will ever go here again. I cant believe its still open to be honest. All these good reviews must be family members. Avoid this place - go to the Curran Court instead.

We visited here for afternoon tea It was very basic and nothing home baked. We had bought prosecco and weren’t offered tea or coffee until we were nearly finished. Table too small for a number of people. No space to set anything down. Disappointed.

I really like Ruby's but the toilets really need a full makeover...they are the same dodgy doors and cramped cuticles that have been here for years. I think a lot of people judge a place by how the toilets look and these let the place down bigtime. Otherwise the food, decor, atmosphere and staff, are fantastic.

My wife and son and I visited Rubys for lunch. A lunchtime special menu and an all day menu were available. My wife had the chicken stack. My son had the Asian meal and I chose the pork ribs and chicken. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals and the service was very good. We will definitely return but not before the heating system is turned on.

Went for a family meal today. My daughter had ribs which were still raw in tgw middle. All chips were hard in the middle and looked like they had been cooked 15 times over. I had a curry but it was like bland stock. Granted the curry and ribs was taken off the bill when we complained but its still a disappointment as that was our afternoon out on a big letdown. We won't be back.

The down side was the building was freezing, especially in the bar and toilet areas. Not helped by the fact the hot water in both sets of toilets was freezing. This area also has a strong smell lingering. It's a shame to see this place in such a state. As I've had some great meals and nights out there over the years.

We called into Rubys on Saturday to watch the football, have a few drinks and a meal. The service was excellent as was the food and drink. The low score is due to the fact the building was freezing, especially in the bar and toilet areas. Not helped by the fact the hot water in both sets of toilets was freezing. cajun chicken ciabatta is really good. Strawberry daiquiri are amazing will definitely return for the food and cocktails not to dear and there is music on Saturday nights

Frequented a few times and each time can't be faulted . Staff very friendly especially a waitress named Connie so helpful. Food us 1st class. Their steak night on a Thursday is a must . Such good value for money and food gorgeous couldn't be faulted

I'd heard a lot of great things about Ruby's, so decided to try it out with my friends. We had a meal, the food was fine but the menu was very similar to another place in the town that we have been to and not half as good! After dinner we decided to try some of their cocktails off their new cocktail list and were very disappointed. I had a gin bramble and it might as well have been gin and lemonade, such a simple, nice cocktail made completely wrong. We could have overlooked these things if the customer service was good but frankly the staff were unwelcoming. Apparently they had a new bar man, which was very apparent as he seemed lost along with his manners.

Das Lokal liegt ein bisschen abseits des Zentrums und wirkt von außen nicht sonderlich einladend, innen ist es allerdings überraschend gemütlich. Das Service war ausgezeichnet, sehr aufmerksam, sehr freundlich. Die Steaks waren OK, aber nicht sensationell.

After last weekends disastrous visit to another local restaurant We decided to try Ruby's and we are glad we did !! We were shown promptly to a table in less than a minute (My Mum is still in wheelchair)Drinks order was taken and arrived promptly, My Mum is a vegetarian and is careful what she eats and our waitress could not have been more helpful Going to the kitchen to check what was in dishes 10/10 for customer service there Food order taken and it arrived a short time later It was all the things that the previous weekends offerings were not Portion sizes were good, food was hot and tasty! Chips and Garlic cubes were how they should be Crisp on the outside and succulent on the inside The best things was the Flavours! EVERYTHING and I mean Everything tasted as it should and flavours had only been added to rather than been obscured or hidden by the addition of copious spices and condiments whilst cooking Observation for Rubys : It is a "little" loud in there at the weekend and maybe a bit more Vegetarian on the menu would be more enticing Overall a 9 and half out of ten Thanks for the recommendation Damian

Visited this place with wife sat 15th April. Reserved a table in bar for some food and then stay on for the rest of the night. Had the chicken pie with chips while other half had chicken stack. Both meals were delicious and came with generous portions. I had the chocolate and hazelnut cheesecake which was good too and came in a large portion. Service from the staff was excellent and the bill was in line with other places we would eat. The entertainment was provided by 'This Way Up' who were excellent and had the place bouncing. Thoroughly enjoyed the night and will be back.

I told my family out for dinner at Ruby's and the food was of good quality, it was well presented and the portions were good, the staff were friendly and the prices reasonable for this type of restaurant. The place was very clean and tidy but I would advise if you have children to go early on a Saturday as it is a bar and after 6pm it would start to fill up with people drinking at the bar etc

Have to say that the restaurant was very accommodating when my hubby organised for me a surprise party, especially as it's during xmas week. Good as usual was very nice indeed and the service was good as always

Two off us went for a late lunch,there was only one other table occupied,yet our food came out well overdone!! I ordered burger,it was hard all way round,onion inns over fried,awful.first time I've not eaten my food,my partner had fish,also can only be described as fried to a crisp, we pointed our concerns to the waitress who was clearly shocked at our dissatisfaction,we will not return.

My hubby, me and two friends had a lovely meal at Rubys last weekend. The service was friendly and as they were very busy quite quick. The food was really great, all had the nice home cooked taste to it, was nicely presented and reasonably priced. I would definately recommend a visit to Rubys.

I eat in Rubys quite a lot, the food is always great as is the service, there's always a great friendly atmosphere!! Hence the reason I eat here so often !!

Restaurant was not full, but this was mid afternoon.Staff were attentive and had smiles on their faces.

First visit to Ruby's (formerly the Kiln) was for a Christmas lunch with friends. I had the two course menu with turkey, followed by apple crumble and custard. The food was of good standard, hot and the portion size was generous. It was all reasonably priced. The interior could do with a revamp, with the exception of new seat covers, it still felt similar to the Kiln in the 80s. It has good parking at the door. To me it had the feel of a bar rather than a restaurant, but that's probably because you can see through to the bar. It does give the place a spacious atmosphere.

I have a special place in my heart for Ruby's.. Food is always fab, and they always make a great night out! I would recommend this place for food or drink to anyone ! Any other business that has tried to make this place work after the kiln never succeeded! I'm so glad that Ruby's have done well!

Great lunch menu. Visited on many occasions. Friendly staff and value for money. Only down point is that sometimes the smell from the toilets greets you in the entrance hall.

Fantastic seafood chowder for starter that is amazingly rich in flavour! I also highly rate the seabass main on a bed of champ and vegetables. This is also a very rich dish. Just delicious food in what was the old 'Kiln' of my youth. Keep it up folks!

My friend and I called in for the special after seeing it on Facebook. It was gorgeous; a steak sandwich with salad. Well worth the money. We also indulged in dessert... excellent. The only gripe was that there appeared to be only one member of staff serving diners. So there was a delay taking orders etc.

Went here for something to eat, this was my first time here, the menu was extensive great choice, the staff were very friendly and professional, I had the beer battered fish mushy peas and chips the food quality was excellent I can say that it was the best fish and chips that I've had in a long time.The downside, I didn't like the fact that smokers had to walk through the restaurant from the bar to go outside for a smoke, constant through traffic the whole time we were eating our meal this made us feel the atmosphere was very impersonal, so don't go here for a first time date or romantic dinner it's defiantly ok for a drinking session followed by great food

Had a very good meal here last night. The menu was interesting and the service was friendly and efficient. A big, all round improvement on my last visit some time ago. Will definitely be going back.

My friend and i had a lovely meal .the waitress was so pleasant and helpful .the barman made us feel so welcome and looked after us well. Our meal was lovely my chicken curry was gorgous . Good menu plenty to choose from .one disappointment no pavlova but the cheesecake was yummy .thanks for lovely meal

First time here during the day and food was excellent. The special, stuffed chicken at 6.95 was a steal and I couldn't finish the whole meal, too much. Curry was my partners dish and was very tasty, again big portions and good service...look forward to coming back again.

Dined here for the 1st time with a friend ..came on a Thursday for the steak night ..had a 10oz ribeye with choice of side and a glass of wine for £10 .. (were else would you get it) meal was delicious, staff lovely ..so attentive and the surroundings cosy would definitely recommend.

On my first trip here when it first opened I was very disappointed and it put me off going back. But today I went back as I heard they had a new chef and I'm so glad I did, waitress very prompt at taking our drink orders, then our food order. Got the turkey and ham and boy was it delicious, will defiantly be back again and would recommend to any one. Great prices too well worth the trip

Having visited here in the past I hadn't been impressed. However I'd heard they got a new chef so thought I'd give it another go. I'm glad I did, the food was lovely and the new menu is fantastic. Very reasonable prices too!

Busy place. Staff were friendly and ensured that we knew they were there to help us. Nothing was too much bother. Meals were reasonably priced and drinks were also favourably priced. Good selection of wines.

Went to try out steak night Thursday had been before an wasn't very impressed as everything tasted the same but this visit I can honestly say was excellent especially for the price steak, side an drink for £10, I ordered Diane sauce which wasn't on the menu but was no bother to the chef an was superb we ordered a few extra sides an overall can honestly say it was outstanding the service was second to none being a manager in hospitality myself i was so impressed well done rubys we will be back.

Not often that we go out. But, this place deserves respect & support from the community, not only because of the food & service, but for the fact they support community groups in the area.They recently gave a voucher prize for my table tennis club's quiz night.But, I went down tonight with my girlfriend & we'd a great 3 course meal.Generous portions. Had to leave space for desert.Proper food. Seafood chowder & fresh baked guinness wheaten bread was brilliant.Thumbs up.

Called today for lunch. Waitress was very prompt in serving us our drinks and taking food order. Food came out nicely presented and hot. Was lovely, couldn't fault it at all. Wasn't bad value either, will be back

I ate here last night for steak night (a Thursday night) and the food was great! They do an offer on a 10z sirloin + a side + a drink for £10 or a few others like 10oz ribeye + ribs + a side + a drink for £17.50 etc although note that the drinks are 250ml glass bottles.Orders were taken quickly and drinks were served quickly but the food did take a while to come out (about 40-45 minutes when there was only 3 other tables in the place) which was a bit of a let down but the food was worth the wait when we got it. I ordered my steak medium rare and it was cooked nicely. I got the garlic mash and chilli bites too and they were really nice too. I'll definitely be back again!

Just had a wonderful meal in there restaurant, roast beef dinner with all the trimmings. Staff very attentive n friendly, chocolate cake for dessert very good.Would definitely recommend 5stars

Met a friend for lunch and was absolulty appalled at my meal. Chips were hard as bricks like cooked 3/4 times and steak was tuff as ole boots. I know it only a bar but the meal was of very poor quality

This is our third time at Ruby's but it has been over a year since last visit. The other family who went with us are regulars. Menu is brilliant with super choice. Food was excellent quality and great value. Really tasty.There were 6 of us - 2 kids and 4 adults. We shared 3 starters to share which was ample for all - Garlic Bread, Garlic Mushroom and Chicken Wings. We then ordered a variety of mains including Steak, Chicken Burgers and Beefburger. The kids ordered goujons and lasagne with chips - at £4.50 great kids value. All finished off with a selection of sides. Instead of desserts we ordered a selection of cocktails which are on special offer after 8pm on a Friday. An Irish Coffee was also ordered. Nice choice of beer and wine. Staff are brilliant - helpful and always smiling despite being very busy. Great spot - we should go more often. Thanks to all the team.

My family and I have dined in Ruby's on several occasions and every time we are impressed.The menu is varied and has lots of choice. This time I tried their curry and it was amazing! My husband had the beef and bird which looked fantastic and he loved it. Kids meals where plentiful and tasty.Staff as always where friendly and very attentive and the restaurant and bar always has a great feel about it with a great atmosphere. We will be back again soon. My wife and I were given a treat by a family member to have a meal at Ruby's Bar Grill, booked for New Years Day.Very well furnished and a nice relaxed atmosphere to either dine at or for a drink in the bar.The service was very good as I was looking for a "Lunchtime special" that wasn't on the menu list. The waitress went away and checked with the chef who accommodated me as near as he could to the dish that I was interested in. The staff were very friendly and attentive to our needs and couldn't do enough for us, nothing was a bother to the girls who served us well done.This was the first meal I had at Ruby's and it was lovely. Would I go back ..? Yes ... Would I recommend it to family an friends ? ..Absolutely.Definitely great value for money, plus the added option of having a nice drink in the bar with large screen TVs.Many thanks for an enjoyable meal and stay.

Slow service ,food very poor ,had to wait 20 mins for our order to be taken,meal arrived at 7.25 pm nearly an hour after we sat down,had to rush the meal as we had plans and were running late

Ate and drank here a few times. Food good, staff friendly, good atmosphere. Also had our sons christening here. Management very helpful and food fantastic.

Visited here for the 1st time today and I can only say very impressive.The venue itself is Friendly and of a Bistro style Feel.The Restaurant was quiet but we had just missed a Large Christmas Party.The Menu is extremely Varied and covers all Tastes.Also Breakfast looks good to.There is Christmas Menu which we didn't sample but was Mouthwatering to Read.We had the Buffalo Wings to start and they did not disappoint.Tender,Moist ....Cooked Perfectly.Chicken Stack and a Daisy Duke Burger for Mains ..... Delicious Great Personal & Friendly Service.We shall return......Looks like we have found ourselves a New Eateries ..... Congratulations to all at Ruby's

When I revisited my home town of Larne this year I took a Flamenco Show over to perform there . Each night we visited Ruby's where we were treated like royalty , thank you to all the owners and staff there . The live music was great even managing to get our Spanish singers , guitarist and percussionist up with them . One night they kept their kitchen open for the gang to eat well after hours , and the food was excellent . We really appreciated everything they did for us , and we look forward to returning on our next visit .

Christmas night out. Food was delicious and plentiful. Staff were fast and friendly. Not a single gripe from a group of 10. Live entertainment was spot on. A great night all round!

We called in about two weeks ago and to say we were welcomed was an understatement! I have never been in a restaurant where the staff were so friendly and helpful. The food was absolutely wonderful and I won't mention the large wedges of Pavlova - delicious. Also thank you for the 2 glasses - were really appreciated! And finally can I say that if I didn't live over 50 miles away (in Dromore, Co Down) I'd be a very regular patron. - BUT I WILL BE BACK!

If your looking good food and a great price then this is the place to go in larne. also great music at the weekends

I have dined here a few time before I wanted to review about it. By holy good god it's fantastic I can't fault it the young lady that looks after the restaurant is doing a great job as are all staff, I even got a chance to chat with the head chef what a gentleman and a man of talent. I appreciate all this bar is bringing to or small town and am looking forward too all they have too offer in the future. Keep it up Rubys

Recently went to Ruby's for lunch for a friends lunch. Meal & service was fantastic. Great atmosphere throughout.Would definitely recommend!

We dined at Ruby's on a Saturday night, the fact that there were only two other tables occupied hinted at its decline in popularity. We were disappointed with the quality of food and it's presentation. Service was however good so my rating is average. I wouldnt return.

Went for a girlie lunch on friday afternoon. The place was not busy but it took well over 30 minutes to get our food out. Once we got the food, 2 of the 3 meals were just about ok and the third was inedible. We sent it back and got offered a replacement but it was so awful my friend declined the offer and just had her drink. The waitress was great and tried to offer cake etc and was helpful but the food was awful.
