This is a great local restaurant that serves delicious food. Don’t be put off by the dated decor, it does however create a charming feel. It is more on the expensive side, but the food is delicious.

Came here for a meal as a couple. Ambience is very pleasant. Service very friendly and decent. We enjoyed our meal sampling a decent variety we hand-picked from the menu rather than the set menu options. The slight disappointment was that the food don’t seem to have any spicy heat to it at all. Thai food should have some heat (actually a lot in Thailand) but this had none. Otherwise it was pleasant.

My friend and I visited your restaurant on the 11th March 2023 and would like to say the food was very tasty and very fresh so we decided to have a bottle off Prosecco priced at £30 when we started it we realized it was tesco finest this was not stated on your menu and we was very shocked and disappointed that your mark up equated to £21-50 on top off a bottle off tesco finest Prosecco sold at tesco for £8-50 which in the end spoilt the whole experience very disappointed I realize you have to have a profit but £21-50 is a bit hard to swallow anyway I look forward to your reply explaining your pricing policy

We recently came here for dinner as a couple. The food is the best Thai we’ve had by far! Plenty of choice yet everything was made with such attention to detail. All of the staff were so friendly and made us feel so welcome. Sarah in particular was fantastic. Nothing was too much trouble and she had plenty of recommendations (all fabulous we should add!)

recently visited this restaurant with friends who lived nearby. Went for the Fishermans soup which in the description states King Prawns squid mussels and sea bass. when it arrived there was one King Prawn in it 3 pieces of squid that was like eating rubber 2 mussels and a tiny piece of sea bass with the skin still on, all in a watery hot liquid. This was priced at 10.50 in a small bowl.My wife and myself had literally two mouthfuls and realized this was awful. when we explained this to the waitress and asked for a discount or some kind of goodwill gesture she said no. Our friends both had a curry which I tasted and would not have known it was a curry. Andy B

This restaurant came highly recommended and we were looking forward to our booking! Firstly we waited a very long time to be sere and even longer to get our first drinks. Our starters finally arrived and they were all very nice. We all enjoyed our starters although the Dim Sum was meatballish and wrapped in a stodgy dumpling wrap. Is was ok up to that point, however it all went wrong from then. On. I ordered the Massaman curry, it was watery, lacked care in cooking, tough lamb that was ver chewy, I sensed that the potato’s were tinned and tasted disgusting, I enquired enquired if the potato’s were tinned and this was confirmed by the staff as canned! it was obvious to me that the potato was added at the final stage of cooking and tasted bland. Overall I would say the food was just ok but no more. The service was not carefully provided, we were left alone and no checking, replenished drinks offered, very poor service during our meal. We found the prices were high for the quality of the ingredients and certainly not authentic, lacking taste, quality and spice. The green curry was bright bright green and lacked flavour. The Pad Thai was mushy, Beef chewy, rice was over cooked. Wine choice was very limited with only French vin ordinaire plonk available. For a £130 bill for four people, we all agreed that it was expensive and certainly not authentic or good. We all live and learn and will never return to this place in the future! One to avoid and we will return to our favourite thai in Leigh on sea, where it is the real deal, authentic and brilliant value for money.

We arrived here half hour after it had opened and even though just tables were reserved the lady still made room for us. Great service, recommendations and atmosphere. The only downside is as it operates as a take away people were waiting not far from us for there orders. Maybe a separate section needed for takeaway.

While visiting Burnham-on-Crouch for a long weekend we decided to try Ruam Thai. The food was good but fairly routine for a Thai restaurant. Although I told the hostess when phoning for a reservation and again in the restaurant that I had a nut allergy, they served a noodle dish with a large pile of ground peanuts. We spotted this but, had I eaten any I would have spent the rest of the evening in A&E. What might have been a pleasant but unremarkable meal was spoiled by the carelessness of the staff.

Visited tonight with family from Burnham with whom we are spending several days holiday. The service, ambience and meal were all first class and we'd thoroughly recommend this restaurant. Starters of Spring Rolls and Tempura vegetables followed by Crispy Sea Bass, Yellow Thai Curry and Green Thai Curry washed down by a lovely Thai Rose and NZ Pinot Noir. In a word - fabulous!!

I've eaten Thai food in many parts of the world (including Thailand) and have to say that considering this quaint Thai restaurant is in the small countryside town, it is surprisingly high quality. I would recommend sticking to the non-mainstream Thai dishes (eg I thought the Pad Thai was pretty mediocre) but some of the flagship dishes are fantastic. Such a treat to get such a diversity of lovely Thai dishes on offer in a relatively small town. Well done Ruam Thai, keep up the good work. I have always found them exceedingly friendly over the years too - I can't understand the odd poor service review they have received.

My husband and eat here at least a few times each year as a treat (it can add up to be pricey but its worth it). This was our 1st time to eat out since the lockdown started in 2020 so we were really looking forward to just being around people, soaking the atmosphere and having someone else cook :-) The welcome was as nice as ever, and we sat towards the back of the restaurant tucked away by the entrance to the kitchen but it was freezing. The windows from the kitchen must have been open and at one point even my husband complained that his feet were cold. Anyway, we didn't want to complain as they were getting pretty busy and the waitresses were running up and down with plates (full or empty). So it was a good sign to see business doing well. So we wanted something quick and my husband ordered the Phad Thai and I fancied something different. I choose the Khao Phad Sapparod and it was awful. I was so disappointed. There was no flavour, it was bland, there was no sauce so it was dry and the only reason that I ate was because I was so hungry and I didn't want to waste money. I was so gutted - I have NEVER eaten Thai food like this before and even when I asked if there was some kind of sauce I could put on the food, I was told no before the waitress ran off with another order. Anyway, I ate was was frankly a horrible dinner and we left. This does not however mean that we will not go back - I just choose the wrong item on the menu and for someone who relishes the flavours and sauces from Thai cooking, it just messed up my whole evening :-( That said, if we were asked by the waitresses about our food (you know the usual, how is your food?), I would have been totally honest and told them, but I wasn't asked so I did not say anything. But don't let this review put you off, perhaps next time that I want to try something different I will ask the waitress and make sure that I do not end with this kind of food. However for those who have a more simple platte, this might just be the dish for you.

Have been here before last year and was really excited to return. However, the service was poor from start to finish... Slow at coming over to ask for drinks and food. Then after starters we had to ask for two tap waters over 3 times, probably took over 40 minutes to get these drinks! Mains took over 1 hour to come after ordering, by this time it was pretty late and not really in the mood to eat anymore. The mains were nice but small. My girlfriend got a sea food sizzling platter. However, it wasn’t really ‘sizzling’ and it only come with 3 medium size prawns, 3 muscles and couple of pieces of small squid... really small cylinders of squid... Admittedly, this main tasted quite nice but was more like a starter. My Tamarind duck - firstly served to the people on the table next to us and then was taken into the kitchen and then taken back out to our table.... Not very COVID friendly... This dish was REALLY sweet, but was nice. However, not a lot of duck compared to other Thais I have been to. We have been here before in the afternoon and the service was fine. Overall we were very disappointed and not HL to standard with competitors. Plus in a small space with lots of people with one window open...

Seriously, this restaurant is just outstanding! My first visit, with a friend, last evening and I was overwhelmed by the hospitality and the quality of the cuisine. It is a delightful environment in a period property and very cosy and comfortable with nice decorative touches. Great to have, at second floor level, a floor to ceiling window to sit by and observe the road below. We had the second listed set meal and it was stunning:a beautifully varied and tasty starter of ample quantity followed by a duck dish to die for - so much flavour and texture and traditional sticky rice and fabulous noodles. A great prawn dish as well and lovely vegetables. Not really needed, but I opted for the grilled mango cheek dessert - just sublime with tamarind and lime sauce and ice cream; my friend opted for a very pleasant lemon sorbet. The wine list is sensible and we opted for the French Sauvignon Blanc and it was very good indeed - smoother than New Zealand and more appropriate to the meal.I presume that the lady who served us was the manager/owner - really very attentive and charming in a relaxed manner.

Now I'm not sure why nobody has revewed this place since 2015 but I guess people want to keep it secret. Now I'm no thai food expert, but 4 of us ate there last night and with a 9:30 pm booking the place was packed.Service was very efficient and the menu looked comprehensive. We elected for 2 set meals for two, as we thought this would give a good sample and i must say the steak dish was very good.In fact the whole meal was very good, not the cheapest with a set meal for two costing £22.50 per head but there was plenty of food.As the restaurant is above a shop the window seats are premium as you can watch the world go by, which isn't the most exiciting thing to do as Burnham on Crouch is a bit sleepy.Anyhow the food was very good and even though last food orders are at 10:30 there seemed no particular rush to get us out.Having never been to Thailand I guess this could possibly be as authentic as it gets with the staff in traditional dress and bowing and saying thank you at every opportunity. All in all a good evenning with a very full belly. As said a little gem thats seems to be keep quite by the locals.

This restaurant is quite quirky (a bit like you would find in Thailand) but it seems to have lost it's way with the food, I live on Thai food for months at a time sometimes, so I do know what I am talking about. I had a bit of a rough meal here some time back but I never base a negative review on one visit as all restaurants can have a bad day, I have had two wasted visits here, and the staff are just not interested if you complain. I visited here this Sunday and found the windows all steamed up from the buffet, I ordered a basic green curry, it came with sticky rice that was cooked until it was like gloop, with no grains, the curry was passable, but not the best, and the ice cream desert was dreadful, upon complaining (as I could not eat it) I was informed that it was a favourite of two of their customers, and that I was at fault, and not the desert

The lady there (who I assume was the owner) was so polite and friendly and our meals came quick and piping hot. We had the mixed starter followed by a red king prawn curry and pad thai, The prawns were fantastic and everything tasted lovely. Would definitely recommend :-)

As this restauant was unable to accept a booking the day I was in Burnham on Crouch, I was delighted when another oportunity presented itself. We were warmly welcomed into the restaraunt and seated. The menu was quite extensive although it wasn't made clear that the meat specified in the menu could be changed. The meals came quickly and were of excellent quality. We was not offered a desert menu, although we didn't want one. We had coffee to finish our meal. The atmospere was a little quiet as we eat very early but it did give the waitress time to chat with us which made the visit very enjoyable.

My wife and I have visited this many times as a couple and with family and friends.Without fail the food has been excellent and the staff attentive and courteous.Would have no hesitation recommending this restaurant to anyone who is hesitant to go on the basis of some of the negative reviews.

I went to this resturant with some friends. The food was very nice but the service wasn't very good at all. I found the staff rather rude especially when asking for cutlery.

Nice little restaurant, pretty good food. Would try and get a table in the eves rather than the main room - it's much cosier. Only a couple of staff who didn't seem to be able to cope - even though there's probably only 15 tables. Maybe we were just unlikely.

I love Thai food and this did not disappoint. Had the set menu for 2 - the weeping tiger was excellent. What I particularly liked was the cosy and buzzing atmosphere. Would have given it 5 stars, but there didn't seem to be a dessert menu.

Thai food is one of my favourite cuisines. This place is hidden out of view and I never noticed it until I was told to go there, wow what a good recommendation. The yellow and green curries are excellent, as is the coconut rice, very yum!! Their takeaway is just a great, and you even get a discount for picking it up with free crackers. I would really recommend you go here, the flavours are perfect, food served quickly and with an extremely friendly service.I regularly come here now!

Amazing Thai food! The best I have tasted so far!. I did not no it was here as from outside its practically a door!. I got recommened from friends. It has a lovely Thai decor the staff are friendly. The price is quite expensive but when there is more than two of you it's fine because the portions are big. I never choose any other Thai after being here so I would definitely recommend it :0)

Excellent food as always. If I could I would go for all the starters. The duck in tamarind sauce is particularly good.

Took me a while to try Ruam Thai, although I've been lucky enough to travel and eat all over Thailand and have come to love Thai food. I wasn't disappointed when I did visit: lovely staff, nice surroundings inside, and food was fresh and tasty. The restaurant is first floor above a shop, so not completely accessible by everyone, but they do a takeaway menu and if stairs are not an issue for you, give it a try for a special occasion. Loved the Pad Thai (one of my favourite Thai dishes), and the waitresses are Thai, wearing traditional Thai dress, and for me, they set the gold standard for friendly, helpful and unobtrusive waitressing, leaving you feeling like you've been a special customer every time. I'll definitely be visiting again.

Visited here whilst in the area on recommendation of a friend. Glad we did. Very good quality food clearly made with fresh ingredients, nice atmosphere in the restaurant with a nice view out to sea, and great service too. If I have one minor complaint it's that whilst the thai curry was served on a warmer and our sizzle steak on a sizzle plate, the other dishes did get a bit cold by the time we'd finished them as there were no hot plates. If not for that, I'd have given this place 5 stars no question. Very happy customer.

We live in Burnham and only visit the Ruam when we dont have the kids as its a little dearer than the chinese restaurant and the menu is more limited. However, the food is fresh and ,for example, the pad thai would be dearer than a chinese chow mein as it has so many more fresh ingredients in it,peanuts, prawns, egg, more varied veg. We had a set menu and it was hot and fresh .Our only grumble was the ribs on the starter platter. I believe they were probably pre-cooked earlier and heated through to order so it made them drier than usual and they werent piping hot. Apart from that the food ,atmosphere ,staff and location were very good.To be honest, we know it is always cold in there in the winter due to the very large glass front to the restaurant. They had atleast 2 electric heaters on and the main aircon unit but we knew to wear a jumper from past experience.

Went here recently after a drive to Burnham on Crouch on a whim. Staff were friendly enough but the restaraunt was absolutely freezing, we were seated underneath a big old heater and one half of me was freezing an the other was being fried. The food was below par and obviously microwaved (this was a quiet midweek evening visit) as for e.g. the spare ribs for the starter were lukewarm on the outside, but the inside and bone were stone cold. Same for the other items we ordered. The mains were poor and very greasy and the green curry didnt resemble any green curry I've ever had before, and the chicken tasted so chewy and rough that it might have been reheated several times. We didn't finish our meal. Overall we won't be going back, not least since about an hour after leaving my stomach was very upset and two days later is still out of sorts - when eating any of the meat dishes I felt a bit wary and should have stopped, thankfully I was the only one from our group to feel this way as far as I know but I had a bit of everything just to taste.

My wife and I are Thai addicts and when travelling we do seek out thai restaurants. We class our local Thai as the best we have had so far and therefore all others are compared to this.Ruam Thai, came very very close, it had the depth of flavours we look for in the food and also the fresh tastes. We have been told by others that its hard to find the right ingredients for making Thai in the UK, with this in mind Ruam must have a stash or secret garden as the food was of a great standard.

We've been going to this restaurant time and again for years now. The large windows make looking out a pleasure. The food choice is extensive and very well cooked. The wine is extremely reasonable and the They do a lunch time special menu which is a set price and works out very cheap whilst the quality of the food remains just as high as in the evening. It is also possible to have the evening menu at lunchtime. Highly recommended.

Visited The Queens Head last night with my fiancée to try their new carvery all you can eat roast dinner. The food was outstanding, when they say all you can eat they really mean it, and it includes meat unlike any other I’ve been too. The meat was cooked to perfection, the gammon was the best I’ve had and there was 4 meats to choose from. The chef was previously a butcher and knows how to cook and carve, it was so yummy. There was a good selection of potato’s, yorkies and veg, also all really yummy. The potatoes were crispy outside and fluffy inside and the gravy was a good thickness and also very tasty as it’s made from the meat juices. I was hesitant trying an all you can eat carvery, however this blew other roasts I have tried in Essex out the water. It was as good as an expensive roast that you would find in a bistro pub. My fiancée and I are making our way round local pubs trying their roast dinners and this flew straight to the top of our list! Also - the homemade icecream is outstanding and i’d urge that people try it. It’s really creamy and they have lots of options. Thank you for a lovely dinner!

Looked inviting from the outside so decided to give this establishment a try. Spotless interior , big menu with many tempting options. Our coffee was spot on , just how we like it "proper coffee." Wifey had bacon, brie and cranberry panini which she said was delicious. Myself chicken , bacon and pesto sandwich with granary bread. Thick slices of gorgeous bread with a well packed filling , it was very satisfying. Very good service and highly recommend.
