Food arrived very late very cold very greasy put straight in bin. No offer of refund and shop could not care less. Avoid

Just received our take away which was piping hot and delicious. We had the prawn drunken noodles , chicken chilli & holy basil and salt and pepper fries. I usually go for a pad Thai but these are my new fave noodles by far !

i cant believe this is the first time we have visited here. i saw it on facebook and thought we would try happy hour menu. food was absolutely gorgeous and served very quickly. crispy honey chicken and chicken satay for starters. delicious. prawn crackers lovely and did not last for the main course. massaman curry delicious and so was the red thai curry. not that impressed with the salt and pepper chips as we were quite full but took them home to reheat. cant wait to go again and try the other food on the menu.

I just wish we had checked the reviews (which i normally do!) before paying a silly amount of money for what was perhaps one of the worst takeaways I have ever had. The only reason it is getting 2 stars is because it filled a hole, but it certainly did not take you back to Thailand like other takeways do with their fresh bold flavours. This stuff was clearly microwaved rubbish, the website is misleading as it claims to be freshly cooked traditional Thai, but none of the 'flavours' i have just eaten were anything close to Thai :( money wasted :( I like others wont be back - I do wish them the best of luck though, as it does seem as though once upon a time this place was decent..

We booked into this Thai restaurant as everywhere was fully booked due to eat out help out and after reading reviews thought we would give it a go. BIG MISTAKE. We were greeted by the restaurant manager I can only assume and it was a very casual greeting she seemed very rushed but can only put this down to how busy the restaurant was. I am heavily pregnant (39 weeks) and me and my partner were left standing for some time while she cleaned a table down despite the fact we pre booked the time for the meal. Again we just assumed it was because of how busy it was. We sat down and were given menus. We were waiting about 15 minutes before a drinks order was taken even though there was a group of staff behind the bar just chatting away. Once our drink order was taken we waited a further 15 minutes for the waitress to come and ask what we’d like to order for food, we mentioned our drinks hadn’t arrived and they’d forgotten to put the order through so we had to wait further for them to arrive. My partners pint arrived and was completely flat and my lime and lemonade tasted stale. We’d also asked for some prawn crackers with the drinks while we chose our food from the menu which didn’t turn up so had to ask for them again- it sounds petty but when you’re eating out you don’t expect to have to keep chasing your order and i felt the floor manager made us feel as if we were an inconvenience to keep asking and chasing missing items because she was so busy. We ordered our food, I ordered from the happy hour and my partner ordered from the normal al a carte. The food arrived in ok time and tasted nice. This could be a nice restaurant was it ran more efficiently and had some order about it. There were staff members serving food in hoodies and gym leggings with no real uniform or idea of who worked there and who never. The manager was racing round the restaurant with a walky talky shouting orders through it whilst clearing other tables. When my partner asked for a drinks refill she took his pint away and didn’t ask if I wanted one aswell even though my glass was empty, which she left on the table. All in all, all I can say is it was a very common, unorganised restaurant food was nice but didn’t compensate for the bad service.

Went for 3 course specials. Short menu but really nice food choices by all. Excellent staff and really nice food and drinks.

I’m not really a fan of Thai food in the UK as having spent a lot of time in Asia it just doesn’t ever match up but this was absolutely lovely. Had chicken satay starter and honey chilli chicken (which I asked for extra spicy and it wasn’t a problem). The waiter was such a nice guy, I believe he’s the owner, he had some pretty awful drunk men shouting and bawling and generally being really rude to contend with while we were in which didn’t make for a very nice atmosphere but he kept his cool and dealt with it so well. Only tiny little negative is the pop is from a bottle and is pretty flat. First time eating here and will definitely be back.

We’ve visited royale Thai numerous times over the years but unfortunately it’s simply not what it was. This was our first local meal out since lockdown and I wish I’d never bothered. The soup starters were the best part of the meal. My wife got the red curry & I went for jungle for main course, it was simply average at best. The most annoying part of the whole experience was the fact there were 2 tables in the whole restaurant all the time we were in, with 6 staff working, yet they brought us the other tables bill (£35 more than ours)... they knew what they were doing, hoping we’d pay regardless, absolutely disgraceful. Our bill itself came to £63 which considering we only had 1 pint of lager and no other drinks on there is absolutely extortionate... simply not good enough. Sorry but we will not be going back again.

We visited this restaurant for our first meal/date night after 5 months of lockdown and we left disappointed. The chicken dumplings and satay chicken starters arrived to the table within 2 minutes of ordering so they were clearly microwaved and were dry as sticks. The mains themselves weren’t to bad. We ordered the honey garlic chilli chicken and the jungle curry, both tasty BUT the sticky rice we ordered as a side was more like tarmac than rice, inedible. We complained to the waiter who then got us a fresh batch which was probably worse than the first. Our bill was £80 and I don’t think it was worth £20. We must say the waiter who served us was absolutely lovely and couldn’t of been more polite, but the food was less than 1 star. We will not be back!

All the food was pre made , we where really looking forward to this but we all left extremely disappointed! Not a soul in other than us , so begs the question why couldn’t we get fresh food ! Won’t return and won’t recommend ! Total waste of money !

For me this is the best Thai restaurant in Sunderland. I have been many times and I can recommend the happy hour menu. There is a good choice of starters including soup. The mains are again a good choice ranging from curries,sweet and sour and honey coated chicken which I can definitely recommend. This is an independent restaurant run by a lovely couple.

Food and service was excellent, could not fault any of it. Food order was taken and starters arrived within a few minutes, as with the mains shortly after. Very nice inside and all the staff were very pleasant. Would recommend and will be going back.

Absolutely delicious, lovely service even tho we really overstayed our welcome finishing off the lovely bottle of wine. Food seemed fresh & tasty, well presented and plenty of it. What’s not to like?

Myself and 3 friends visited here and I can’t believe I’ve never been sooner after seeing it advertised on social media . We had a mixture of spring rolls and chicken satay to start which were absolutely beautiful. For mains we had honey chilli chicken , and jungle curry served with rice . We ordered a side of salt and pepper chips . Portion was huge for it been happy hour and the flavours were gorgeous .not to spicy We all had different drinks from wines and bottled ciders . Service was second to none . Highly recommended and will deffo be back,

The food is second to none, thoroughly enjoyed my thia red curry and coconut rice. Golden parcels for starter was also delicious. Excellent service, I would highly recommend a visit or take away, thank you Royal Thia for great food.

Wow, this place is just great. We were all blown away by the food, every single thing was delicious. The speciality chilli honey crispy chicken was one of the nicest things I have ever eaten! Staff were super friendly and helpful. Reasonable prices. Would give 6 stars if I could!

Our first visit was a memorable one. The starters, pork bags and papaya salad were delicious. So were the mains, Drunken Noodles, one with prawns and the other with seafood. The service was superb - thanks Kay. We will be back.

Visited here tonight for birthday tea ! Allowed us the early bird special even though we were late ! Beautifully decorated inside ! Food was outstanding ! Can highly recommend! Even though we ordered the £9.99 3 course meals ... superb flavours and piping hot freshly cooked food ! We will definitely be back ! Please go and try or miss out ! Just fabulous !

We've visited this gorgeous restaurant a few times since it opened 3y ago. I can't understand why we haven't been going as often as this is by far one of the best Thai restaurants in the area. The owner manages this lovely restaurant and is intent on keeping all of his customers happy as he constantly circulates the restaurant chatting occasionally with his customers. The food is absolutely delicious and there is an extensive menu alongside a great happy hour menu, three courses for £9.99 which is on until 6.30. We opted for individual starters of spring rolls and chicken satay but both had the same main course of honey chilli chicken. We could have had ice cream for dessert but were too full to take up this offer. We will be returning soon and look forward to sampling some more of the lovely food here.

Visited on spec and we were out of time for early bird however the owner automatically gave us the menus. Fantastic. 3 course for £9.99. Great selection. I opted for Tom yum followed by jungle curry and sticky rice, my 5 year old wanted king prawn egg fried rice and it was huge. The prawns were tiger prawns. Tasted gorgeous.

We had another fantastic meal here on Friday night. The quality just get better with every visit. Best Thai food outside of Thailand itself. Great staff in a comfortable friendly atmosphere and they now do takeaway The go to place for beautiful Thai food ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Ken & kay were yet again hospitable, friendly and serving up superb food We dined on the special price menu and it was excellent Love the satay starter and the best honey chilli chicken ever

The food was very tasty and fresh. Service was good, perhaps unremarkable, but good. The menu variety was nice, and it was helpfully marked for vegetarian, vegan, and even gluten free. One note is that even the ‘one pepper’ dishes have a good zip to them, so be aware that the spicing is serious. Still, would definitely recommend. It’s not cheap eats, though, so plan for that.

My partner and myself love Thai food and we found this restaurant was disappointing.

We visited the Royale Thai restaurant today through a spontaneous decision on where to eat. I had never dined there before but my partner had and said it was amazing. So glad we did as there was a 3 course happy hour deal on and the food did not disappoint. Everything was cooked to perfection and the man serving us was extremely pleasant and helpful. Will definitely be returning.

Being a celiac who travels loads I'm always on the hunt for good gluten free food and this was a great choice with LOADS of options. There is a gluten free page in the menu but also they were more than willing to find out what could be made without gluten. Everything we ordered was delicious. I had the penang curry and papaya salad with coconut rice on the side. FABULOUS

Called in here for our tea,fantastic 3 course special only £9.99 each! Lovely restaurant,friendly staff,superb food at a great price,cant wait to go back again!

First time visiting this restaurant, and it certainly won’t be the last. We were welcomed by a waiter who was so genuinely friendly and gave us excellent service throughout the night. The food was exceptional, and I couldn’t fault a single thing. Highly recommended.

The service in this restaurant was very good and the starters were very nice. We enjoyed the main courses too, but the beef was a little tough.

Went for a quick lunch mid week and had the £9.99 three course lunch menu. Large portions, food cooked quickly using quality ingredients and really, really tasty. Served by a very welcoming and friendly owner who happily looked after us. Would highly recommend and we will be visiting again.

Absolutely amazing restaurant!! Where do I begin, food is beautiful and the service is great! Found Royal Thai by pure accident last year and have been so many times since! Great value for money and the owner and staff cant do enough to help you! If you're looking for somewhere lovely to eat then give this place a try....you will not be disappointed

Enjoyed a really nice pre-theatre meal here on a Thursday evening, The 3 course special was great at £9.99. Choices are limited, so if you are fussy, or veggie / vegan you might not have enough choice on this menu, but I thoroughly enjoyed my 'Golden Bags' (deep fried mince parcels) and Thai Green Curry. Ice cream for dessert too. Service was quick and friendly.

I gave this 5 stars because I thought the service and hospitality was great. They had an issue with the heating bt really went out of their way to make us feel comfortable

Based on the review profile we ate here. I was really disappointed. The food was nothing like other Thai meals I have had. It really wasn’t authentic in its flavours and textures. The plate was over complicated with cabbage leaves and turnip. The sauce of my main was gelatinous and gloopy. I just would not recommend. And it was soooooo expensive for what we got. And you pay for your rice. I’ve never had that on a thai. You always get the jasmine rice with the meal.

We booked a table based on the reviews, we thought we were in for a treat. How deceived can you be? We arrived about 5 minutes before our table was due, on entering the restaurant we could see that they didn't have a table ready for us and furthermore it took sometime for anyone to acknowledge our presence. We told a waitress we were there for our booked table, she did not seem to know anything about it and started looking around for a possible table, eventually she said "I'll have to put those tables together for you". Bearing in mind we booked in advance our table was located in most probably the worst place in the restaurant. After a short while we ordered our drinks and the service from then on was adequate however not professional, I don't believe they have any knowledge of the business they are in. The food was not offensive but I would certainly not rave about it like some of the previous reviews here. I maybe would not have reviewed it this way if we had the early bird meals £9.99 for three courses for that is the price we should have paid and not the £28 per head for two courses drinks not included. Would I recommend it? Don't think so. Would I go back? Definitely not, not even for the early bird.

If I could leave 0 stars I would! Absolutely appalling service, waited over an hour for starters.. with no apology in between and all that was said with an attitude “we’ve got new staff tonight so I’m having to do everything by myself” - even though we watched everyone else receive their food first. Serving regulars before anyone else. Decided to leave after the starters arrived and ended up paying nearly £50 for a round of drinks and starters. Over priced - £17 a main dish, bad service. Go elsewhere! Ruined our evening.

Brilliant food. The best in Sunderland not massed produced bought in rubbish. It never fails to please and deserves to be a great success.

What a little gem this is. Can’t praise it enough. We are not from the area, so we went last night on a recommendation for the first time, and was not disappointed. Staff are very friendly and attentive, informative and the restaurant was spotless. The main man couldn’t do enough for you, he even gave my partner a tub of assorted reading glasses as he struggled reading a menu!(Won’t admit he needs glasses) Food tasted amazing, all fresh natural ingredients, very well presented and a good portion size. Parking at the back of the restaurant (over the carriageway) is free after 6pm.

Just before christmas busy lunchtime. 21 dec. Gorgeous food as usual. I Started with spring rolls. Love them. Then I had the Green curry... It Never fails.. My friends had the honey chilli chicken and nothing was left. Cleared the plates. Finally ice cream. Great price and quality food. All the best for 2019. Can't wait to come back again I look forward to it every time I'm back home in Sunderland.

Visited on a lunch time both service and food were of a high standard. Had the three course lunch which is great value with no compromise on quality, can highly recommend.

Lunch for four old friends in a pleasant, far eastern setting. There were numerous, sumptuous choices from the main menu, or a very good deal from the lunchtime special.

Spent a lovely afternoon with a big crowd of friends in the Royale Thai. Food was superb and the plate decorations included flowers carved from carrots, turnips etc. Some of the dishes were served in a pineapple. Ten out of ten for presentation and quality of the food. Everyone was delighted with their choice of main courses. The staff were very friendly and all of our meals arrived within quick succession which was amazing considering the number in our party. Will definitely return. It was the first time I have pulled a Christmas cracker in November! Fabulous start to get us in the Christmas mood!!

Ordered for the first time from here last weekend , everything arrived bang on time hot and delicious - will be my Thai takeaway of choice from now on

Visited on Saturday 13th October having seen a happy hour 3 course for £9.99 which is grrst value. We decided to eat ftom the full menu anyway.

Me and my husband visited Royale Thai for the first time yesterday and we will certainly be back soon. The food was absolutely delicious and the staff were friendly and attentive. The sharing platter for two was a very generous portion for starter and out mains were equally so. My husband had the Thai Green curry for main and I had the chicken in black pepper sauce - they were delicious! Can't recommend this restaurant highly enough. Great date night place x

£9.99 for 3 courses. A few choices for starter and main but only ice cream for dessert. Food was really tasty. Mains choices available in mild, medium and hot so something for all tastes. Good service

chicken satay, spring rolls, beef with basil, red chicken curry (ordered beef, but got chicken) was what we ordered. It was so sugary it was inedible. Everything swilling in sugary sauces. (all parts of the meal). Really sickening.

We visited this restaurant whilst on a weekend theatre trip to Sunderland. The favourable reviews on here were the main reason we chose this restaurant and I'm pleased to say the food and service lived up to the recommendations.

Five of us visited for the first time. It was lovely. Delicious food. Very generous portions. We tried/shared a variety of starters and mains. Friendly owner and staff. Spotless toilets. A great way to spend a Friday evening.

We were staying for the weekend and had pre-booked without knowing the area-we hit the jackpot! Lovely surroundings with delicious food beautifully presented and decent amounts. The staff were really friendly and courteous. The friends we were with had not experienced Thai before and they are now hooked!

Called in for lunch as this was advertised on Sunderland restaurant week for 10 pounds for two courses. When we arrived we found they normally offer three courses for the same price. I thought it was odd but decided to stay non the less. My daughter has tasted many Thai dishes in Thailand and loves Thai food but sadly this wasn’t particularly authentic.

Went here based on trip advisor ratings. The honey and chilli chicken was great and the beef Massaman was the best we have had. Great service very friendly staff. Definitely a pace to go to and we will,l be going back again soon!!

Very tasty food at reasonable price during their happy hour, prices are a little high after that. The place/decor is a little dull.

Reviews are so, so useful when in an unfamiliar place and wanting quickly to find a good place to eat within five minutes of looking. So, top of the list appeared the Royale Thai less than fives minutes away.

Staying in the area and used trip advisor to find this lovely restaurant.

Visited a couple of weeks ago for a meal as a couple. We were just in time for happy hour so my OH ordered from that menu and I ordered from the main menu. My one and only criticism is that the happy hour menu is very limited. Having said that, the main menu is very reasonably priced.The food is delicious, the staff are friendly and polite and service was quick.

We visited this restaurant after a recommendation from a friend of my partner. Thai food is one of our favourites.The booking was handled by a very friendly lady on the phone without any problems.

Second time to this restaurant and would strongly advise you try it. Excellent service, good advice on what to choose. Nipping clean place with beautiful decor. Three course lunch for £9.99, what more could you ask for? My favourite place to eat out, second to none.

First visit here with friends. Restaurant was quiet - though it was a mid week lunchtime. We all chose from the £9.95 3 course lunch and were very happy with our choices. We all especially enjoyed the green Thai curry.

The Tripadvisor reviews convinced us to take the short train journey to Sunderland from Seaham. We were soon glad we did. Delicious, generously-portioned Thai food with real ‘home-cooking’ authenticity. From big juicy chunks of satay chicken to the fresh pepper berries in a stir-fry, ingredients and flavours were outstanding. Friendly, welcoming staff. A courageous enterprise which deserves all of its success.

So good! Staff were efficient and friendly. Love the decor. Food is made from fresh ingredients. Very good quality. Authentic Thai flavours. I only tried the green curry but it was lovely and I’ve spent a lot of time in Thailand. I’ll definitely be back to work my way through the menu.

We had a 4 night break at this beautiful golfing and static caravan park, we booked a dog friendly caravan so that we could take our dog, it was on great plot , we had sun from morning till night on our balcony that was really nice ,

We came here for a friend's bday while working in Sunderland. It's in a great location, lots of choice on the menu. Staff really friendly. 4 stars I thought the food was quite bland I got the chicken cashew nut stir fry & also over priced for £32 For a starter main & sort drink. Don't mind paying extra if the the food is amazing however this was only nice.

Food and service were excellent great value too lovely atmosphere. I certainly will be back and the sooner the better its a quality restaurant just what the city needs.

My husband and I visited to celebrate on bank holiday. The service and food were fab. Honeychilli chicken and green curry amazing. Total bill about £60 with generous tip as it was well deserved.will def be back

What can we say arrived sunderland yesterday, ate on seafront before checking into our accommodation. Food was rubbish. Told our hosts and they recommended royal thai for next day (wedding anniversary) we went there mid afternoon no-one in why food was to die for fantastic owner was, lovely said usually can't get a table but Mondays are quiet so we struck lucky. So impressed with her wand other place we visited next day we, are changing our plans for August and re booking our accommodation so we, can eat here again. Thank you for a positive experience credit to your area.

Orders a takeaway...price same as usual Thai if not a bit cheaper. Less than 30min wait for delivery on Friday night.

First visit & will not be our last. Superb food, we had Chicken Satay, Spring Rolls and Golden Bags for starter. The food was beautifully presented and so tasty. We all opted for the Jungle curry which was amazing - a really spicy treat, served with rice and an extra side of salt and chilli chips - awesome Service was tremendous - the chef even offered to swap our daughter's curry if she tried it and it was too spicy for her - no need though, her first Thai meal & she loved it. Thanks for a great night.

Still sitting in restaurant now...had to leave my review as astonished at the quality of food and service. My husband and I love thai food and been to loads of thai restaurants and this is by far the best. Food is amazing and staff lovely. Thank you we've had a lovely evening to remember :)

Over from Norway last weekend for a family birthday party, my girlfriend and I popped into Royal Thai late Saturday night. Not for the first time EVERYTHING was superb. Can highly recommend.

Went there for an early dinner. They have a 3 course meal for £10. The food is good and was served fast. The only downside is they want you to leave the place quick. It’s understandable if the place is full but that wasn’t the case. Safe to say I won’t comeback again

Ate here early evening after a visit to the theatre. There was lots of choice on the menu. There was a sign outside mentioning the happy hour but nothing inside to suggest what was included. We got the Royale Thai mixed platter to start which was very good. I got a Penang for main which was lovely, my partner got Beef drunken noodles which he said was ok, but the portion size wasn’t very big and he was still hungry. Luckily I’d left some of mine so he finished that off. All the food was very tasty but the portions aren’t huge.

Our favourite restaurant never disappointed food is fab and very reasonably priced my favourite is Golden bags

Lovely service, lovely food. Ate here today and had a quick lunch. Tom yum soup to start, duck green curry for main. The food was presented very nicely and was tasty too. Can understand why it’s top of the list.

Just been to to the Royale Thai for a lads leaving party tonight, 11 of us were well taken care of by Kenny and Kay, food was tremendous and service was excellent, first time for nearly all the lads but wont be the last time, everyone blown away at how good the food was, great night out ,thanks Kenny and Kay...will be back soon.

Visited for an early evening meal as a family of 3. Disappointed straight away with the children’s menu which offered no Thai options other than ‘Chicken and egg fried rice’ or ‘prawn and egg fried rice’ and therefore had no option but to pay £9.99 (adults price) for a child’s meal so she could have some choice.

Been here a few times every time 5star rating great service food was out quick and was perfect nothing to much portions are big great Thai authenticity would well recommend to locals an everybody visiting

Went on a dinner time and had the 3 course for 9.99 and it was beautiful I wasn't keen on the main so they changed the main from duck to prawn with not a pick of bother more than happy to please you would loveto come back and try the night time food it looks delicious.

Had been recommended this restaurant by a friend so knew it would be good. But when we went was blown away by just how good. The staff were lovley and the food out of this world. I cannot recommend this place highly enough it is well worth a visit you won't be disappointed.
