Royal Tandoori Restaurant in Lambeth

I always have the same, sad I know, but the chicken tikka, peshwari naan and bhini bhaji are excellent! And I have had a few of these from a variety of places. The naan is well filled, soft and yummy. The chicken delicious as is the okra. The other half has lamb passanda and rice. He says it is a delicious blend of sweet and spice. And all for under £25 A wonderful, local restaurant. Thank you

I have now ate here twice as it’s the closest Indian to my house, both times we have been one of only two tables in the restaurant. On Saturday night I arrived just before 7 to an empty resturant that was being hoovered which I thought was a little strange. We were seated and half ordered our food when the phone rang and the one waiter left us mid order to answer the phone. The poppadoms came quickly and the sauces are very good, we then had the oval platter to start which was really nice. As we were eating our starter the one waiter that was working then went out to deliver takeaways leaving no one to clear our plates or to serve our next course. People were coming into the restaurant to deliver drinks and wine which again I thought was weird for a Saturday night. Main courses were ok, the lamb curry that I have had one both occasions has been very tough. But aside from this the food is ok. They really need to hire a delivery driver as well as a waiter because it is very strange being in a restaurant alone and having to wait for the waiter to deliver peoples takeaways (20 minutes each time) before you can move on with your meal.

Nuestra comida para llevar esta noche fue muy decepcionante. Siempre tenemos pollo tikka y patata Bombay. El pollo estaba muy duro y parecía poco cocinado. La papa Bombay no tenía sabor. Tal vez un cambio de chef. . . pero de ahora en adelante un cambio de restaurante para mí. Tiró la mayor parte de la basura.

Nos detuvimos en Oval Tandoori esta noche después de un largo viaje. La comida era excepcional, perfectamente condimentada y condimentada, carne tierna, deliciosos platos de verduras. El propietario tuvo la amabilidad de abrir un poco temprano para que nos permitiera salir de la lluvia y el servicio fue amable y atento. Muy recomendable.

for some strange reason - on a busy day, they had one waiter taking care of the restaurant. a group of 10 people ahead of us had booked ahead but were being told to split up on two seperate tables - and were getting no attention at all so they walked off. we were told to order everything together - and to forget condiments etc. BUT he was keen to make our drinks larger (which I assume were high margin - to make up for the 10 customers they had lost). the food, well nothing fantastic. pretty average indian meal cooked by Bangladeshi which meant that the spice blend was not right and Sugar prevalent. Lord only knows how the awards were made. Then again I didn't look closely - perhaps they are awarded by organisations who get paid to make awards and promote the restaurant. Although I noticed they were all old, just like th place. Shame there are no other Indian restaurants nearby.

We attended having watched a cricket match at the nearby cricket ground. The food was good - it was of a very good, if not outstanding, standard, and was of good portion size and made for a tasty meal. The service was poor. We ate here on the Gourmet Card, but this was questioned somewhat before being accepted, and the members of staff who attended to us appeared not to be aware of the scheme initially, despite me having phoned in advance and this being the reason we had found the restaurant in the first place.

We went as a group of 8 tonight and had an amazing meal! We probably weren’t the easiest of customers (all paid separately, lots of different dishes) but our waiter was so lovely and patient and made us feel very welcome. Couldn’t believe the value for money as well, I feel like we all feasted for just over £10 each (not including beers, which were also pretty good value for London). Particular shout out to the paneer jalfrezi and garlic naan. Looking forward to going back and supporting this local business very soon!!

Have eaten here several times and got take away. Usually get the paneer jalfrezi and it has been really good every-time. Manager is friendly and space to walk in.

Ordered a takeaway for two online and went to collect it. The food was ready promptly and my boyfriend and I were really impressed by the service and the staff were all very friendly. Most importantly, the curries were excellent - perfectly spiced and piping hot. We will be returning!

I wish I read the reviews before ordering. It was my first and last meal from Oval Tandoori. Smelled appetising but very disappointed. Chewy lamb and chunky onions! Worst Indian I ever had.

I ordered a take away from here. The person I spoke to was quite rude. I asked about a dish on the menu as their website had no discriptions of the dish’s ingredients or describing the taste. The person to me I was taking to much of their time. I then ordered two chicken pathias and asked if the chicken could be cut smaller. I was told on the phone we can not do this. I told you have before? He told depends on the chef. More like pre-made I thought as how hard is it to cut the chicken smaller I ask myself. I ordered two of each and rice that came to £18 pounds. With the person on phone hugging saying is that it.... I thought not all of us our pigs. Also says delievery over £15 pounds. Don’t advertise that if you do not want more than £30 pound orders. He then took my card details and told me this point he was on the phone that the card transactions come through. He told me he would call me back. Ten mins later I called him back. To top this off we got the food and this not a lie! Me and my partner had bad stomachs all night and the next day. Really bad.... I’m guessing the pre-made is long out of date.... Customer service and bad food

Ordered in and the delivery was not only late - but the owner/manager needed to reminded that the delivery. Which he clearly did not like, nor bother apologizing for. Food was okay but a terrible experience.

I've ordered both in-restaurant and online many times, and this has become such a firm favourite with my family that we've not looked back. Really generous portions with a reasonable price. The team care so much about their food and you!

Highly recommend this place. Don’t be fooled from the outside look as it’s pretty minimal but the food is delicious. They take great care of you inside while dining as it’s never too busy so they can focus on their customers. Enjoy!

The Oval Tandoori has been a fixture for 40 years. I first went there 30 years ago but had not been back for a decade or more until this recent visit. In the intervening period they have expanded by taking over the former Royal Tandoori but otherwise not much has changed. Everything we ate was good, if perhaps less spicey than it used to be, and prices are lower than the competitors in Kennington Road and Camberwell. We'll be going back.

A few other diners on christmas eve. Nice but unremarkable meal. No clear information about surcharge for all prawn dishes. Shame as had I know I would have booked elsewhere.
