Royal Oak in Wyre

A cracking local pub, situated in the heart of the town, in a perfect location. We stumbled across the Royal Oak, looking for somewhere to eat, prior to watching Garstang FC v Droylsden FC. Great find ! Customer service was excellent. ✅ Food was great. 👍 Price was as expected 💰 All in all….. 10/10. 🌟 Will definitely return. FYI, Droylsden won 3-1. ⚽️

Great Olde English pub, with cosy snug areas and extensive areas for dining. One of our favourite places.

Was visiting family for an early Xmas whilst on travels to family in area. I’m originally from the area. On first night I’ve unpacked we decided we wanted to eat out. We invited some friends and family. Sadly a lot who are locals declined and told us to stay away. Some came. There was 8 of us. We were told this place had become marmite. We love a good old traditional pub and always enjoyed a few beers here in times ago. so compared to competition this place looked more like our kind of pub again as its cask ale choices were great now we love cask ale and this offers the best variety in the village that seriously the village has ever seen in quality and taste. Sadly this place doesn’t know what it wants to be. Table service, some of us just wanted drinks and when it came to splitting a bill and asking the question the girl looked so angry. She said you are not all eating then ! Eye roll! we said can we just order at bar for drinks and pay as we go and she said you have a table it doesn’t work like that. I said but we said this before we sat that we weren’t all eating. She again said it doesn’t work like that. Sorry Who don’t it work for us or them cos it would had been nice to know before sitting. Manager apparently was off but in bar, she pointed over to where he was sitting he just finished work so we were told they didn’t want to bother him … he was 5 deep in lager by the time we left which was 1hr and a bit and looked like he just come back from a wedding not work. we decided to share some sides fries, onion rings etc. Again the girl seemed annoyed that’s what we decided to have. Must admit the cask was wonderful the only thing they have right. One thing is we would had returned for the beer again but …And as we left more insult to injury we heard the gobby arrogant girl supposedly hospitality trained waitress say to drunk just come back from wedding manager. Bloody hell they were hard work, said they were eating and didn’t and didn’t tip. Could had given it to that other family! I didn’t say a word. I didn’t want to get into it. But Know we were not hard work, know we told you some of us weren’t eating and YOU seated us still only seeing pound signs in your greedy eyes ! Know we would had ALL eaten if we had not been made to feel like THEY backed the wrong horse. And know locals warned us and they again came and got treated like we were a PAIN. I hope someone who is running this place from above is taking these reviews seriously. HOW MANY BAD ONES DO YOU NEED TO HAVE ! Before you see your reality. We see your social media you look to embrace the local community yet you are taking advantage of the events that have been part of Garstang long before your greedy arrogant paws got on it. I understand you don’t need folk like us at silly times like Xmas and summer holidays but you will in January and February and any other time when footfall is slow and locals will choose elsewhere. I really wanted to prove the neg heads wrong….. we tried ….. we failed. Please give it a go. I hope you are made more welcomed than we were. Money is hard to earn nowadays to enjoy going out and we were made to feel our money wasn’t enough. I know it’s hard on pubs now I really do but this isn’t how you create loyalty, trust or returning custom. Please learn from this before someone replaces you. Cos these locals aren’t going anywhere.

Visited here tonight. Ordered the beef casserole with chips. The frozen chip were hard, the beef casserole was tough. Served with 4 slices of carrot and a teaspoon full or shredded cabbage. At £15.95 this wasn't good. I don't understand how this place gets such good reviews. Was going to order a starter of wings but at £9.95 didn't bother. These are more expensive than most restaurants. Who do they think they are? I've just moved to Garstang but won't be visiting here again.

Had lunch here, we used to go regular and the sandwiches were lovely, tried the light bites this time and have to say they weren’t the best. The chicken and leeks were tough, the cheese was just resting in one side and the sauce very runny. However, overall it was ok and wouldn’t put me off going back for the sandwiches at least.

Good food and a good atmosphere. Some of our favourite specials and desserts have disappeared with the new ownership though which is a bit disappointing.

We had the Christmas roast dinner menu. The turkey was lovely, beef was ok. Unfortunately the parsnips, carrots and potato’s were so large they were completely off putting. I know some would say, what’s the problem? However, when you’re faced with a roast potato the size of your fist and a parsnip the width of your wrist I can tell you they just don’t cook the same and don’t taste as you’d hope. All it would take is a bit of effort to chop them smaller and roast for longer and you’d have vegetables that are crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle and we’d be happy. As it was we thought it was quite expensive and disappointing to say the least.

Visited today with a group of ladies for a Christmas get together, we had all pre ordered and paid deposits, we were seated in the back room which is ok but quite basic, no table cloths or warm ambience. Our waiter asked if we wanted our starters (3 had ordered) and we said yes, 15 minutes went by so went to chase them up; as we did the mains came out, we stated we hadn’t had the starters and were told we hadn’t ordered any!!! We did dispute this but the waiter/front of house lad insisted we hadn’t even though it was him that asked if we were ready for them….. we gave up and just accepted the mains, sadly the standard was below previous meals, vegetables were solid and undercooked, roast potatoes burnt and hard, the beef had a strange taste, several people in the group left quite a lot, we did not receive a table check until we’d put down our cutlery; desserts were ok though. Staff were missing from the bar each time we went, all in all they didn’t seem like they could be bothered, apart from the waiter that’s been there for years ( fair haired) Will think again before going back

Dave and I had the traditional Christmas Lunch which was absolutely fantastic. Everything was piping hot and tasty. The Christmas pudding was to die for. The two girls who served us were amazing attentive to our needs and very friendly. The dining room was nicely set out also lovely and warm. We both want to thank Stewart and his wonderful Team for an enjoyable afternoon.

Xmas meal was underpar but everything else was fine. We had a great time as a group. Not quite how I remember the food quality being but always issues when cooking for so many people I guess.

Great hotel with excellent parking. Food superb and breakfast not to be missed. The staff were extremely pleasant, especially the lady in the breakfast room who was very customer oriented.

A very nice place to stay. Comfortable, clean and friendly. The breakfast was nice and traditional. Single glazed windows in bedrooms so some road noise early morning but nothing to worry about. Sensibly priced. I would definitely stay there again.

We have just been as a family for Sunday Dinner. We had previously asked the staff if they could assist us with the arrival of our Christmas Elves, for our 7 and 10 year old. Thank you to all involved it was amazing and the food was fantastic. If you want a good Sunday Roast head to the Royal Oak. Thank you everyone !!

Stopped by with friends for a drink one evening recently. Disappointed by the uninterested staff and lack of choice at the bar. Atmosphere and decor gave a drab feeling to the evening so we won't return. Staff made no acknowledgement of our arrival or departure, not a reflection of a Lancashire welcome.

We came to the Royal Oak on a busy Saturday due to garstang having a small festival, it was very busy but such an enjoyable experience. We had our baby with us and nothing was too much trouble, we had some food and drinks and all was really lovely and good portions! Louis and Charlotte in particular were very welcoming and polite and everything was brought in good time considering the amount of other people having food and drinks! Definitely visit again soon, thank you!

What a waste of £170 stayed overnight and had dinner there.. well I say Dinner lightly as my husband ordered the Prawn Platter thinking not far from the sea he was going to have lots of fresh prawns and a few large ones too .. NO 1/4 bag of frozen prawns just a Prawn Salad really but with a whole red onion chunks of that is … and then we decided to have a light lite of the Beef Casserole .. it’s not often I’m lost for words but here comes Dinner on SIDE Plates .. 3 pieces of cabbage, 1 Sugarsnap Pea and I chunk of carrot .. with Frozen Chips which we were promised twice fried chips lol maybe once to thaw them out the other to make them so hot they were crunchy .. we paid all in all £42.00 with a point of beer and a cup of tea … I’ve never been served a small meal on a side plate before .. I did say to the waitress it look a bit pathetic and she replied she’d pass that comment on to the chef … I love to see his qualifications lol .. she asked how the onions were my reply was they were bigger than the dinner plate lol .. then off to bed were music kept us awake until midnight and then rude guests banging their doors closed and not just politely shutting them .. so tired today with NO Sleep and £170 down … never again

Had a great meal at this dog friendly pub. The staff were very welcoming and efficient. The beer and wine were both good and reasonably priced. Could not fault the food. I had lamb chops which were excellent and my wife had beef casserole which had plenty of meat and was very tasty. All in all a great experience and we will definitely return and we would thoroughly recommend.

Attended a family wedding and stayed here for 2 nights in October. It was lovely. Above and beyond our expectations. Accommodation very reasonably priced. The beds were so so comfortable and warm - very cosy. The staff were very friendly, nothing was too much trouble and the food was excellent. Would go back in a heartbeat. Thank you.

Lovely meal had with my family yesterday. We ordered the mixed grill, Cumberland sausage and I had the lamb chops. I don't usually eat lamb but fancied something different. Well they were delicious! Staff very friendly (as usual) and attentive. We will be visiting our lovely local again soon!

First time ever in Garstang and just went in for a drink after casing out all the other pubs in the town centre and wanting to be assured of cask ale being available and not having to queue three deep at the bar. We were greeted pleasantly and Unicorn, Dizzy Blonde and Garstang Gold were on offer. All were kept well though I suspect the Gold was the first served for hours as it was a little warm but for only 3.4% ABV tasted good and did not have that distinctive Robinsons twang. We did not eat though observed that people who did enjoyed the food and found the portions generous. The character of the bar has been preserved with the attractive wood panelling and warm but subdued lighting. In short a very pleasant environment for the more mature drinker (no obtrusive piped music) and not bad value either at £4 per pint.

Fantastic food and Dog Friendly

One of the few eating establishments that can actually cater for people aiming to lose weight. Smaller portions available and salads available without dressing. To top it all. None fried or buttery potato option available. My thanks and congratulations!

Took family members for a meal today and can not fault it. The meal was definitely plentiful thank you chefs 😀(even my grandma enjoyed it and she can be a toughen to please) and the staff (Charlotte, Rachel, Robert and jamie) made sure we had everything we needed and wanted. Would recommend going again next time I'm around garstang 😀

Three of us came for a belated birthday and an early birthday meal today. We had the best time, lots of laughs, saw some people we haven’t seen in a while and fantastic food. One of us had scampi and it was thoroughly enjoyed, she also had apple pie and custard and said it was the best she’s ever had, no big chunks of apple, another had the burger also enjoyed and I had Gail’s home made chicken madras and oh my god the best curry I’ve ever had. Staff as always excellent. Thank you to Gail and Zoltan for the excellent food. And the wonderful staff. Also had a bit of entertainment when the bus driver couldn’t get through was funny to watch.

Always enjoyed coming to the Royal Oak and eating, however I have been twice recently and the food has been shocking. Think that there must have been a change in ownership.

We visited Garstang today and went into the Royal Oak for lunch. Prices are on a level with any other venue. The place is so warm and welcoming, friendly staff, very helpful and courteous, the food is amazing !!!! It's one place that you must go to. It is like a country pup inside but clean very well kept, and defo worth a visit.

Lovely pub and friendly staff. Excellent service. I had fish and chips. The fish was very fresh. Highly recommend

Just had a great meal at the oak , the food was fantastic as usual but I really want to praise the staff Rob Jamie Pip and the barman sorry I didn’t get your name. My wife and I took my my elderly mother for lunch and after we had ordered we had to take her prematurely back to her home . This anywhere else could have been a problem not at the oak the staff where very understanding and just sorted it ,I cannot praise them enough and throughly recommend the place. Well done guys 👍thanks so much.

Four of us came for lunch on Friday, after coming here for at least the last 15 years it was the worst meal I have had .The portions have gone smaller the prices have really gone up and the chips were frozen, hard in the middle the ham warmed up and dry it will be a while before I return,but the staff are still amazing.

I got lamb chops and found them to be very tough to eat, I didn’t complain as I wanted to get out of the Oak as fast as I could.

Dreadfully disappointing. After enjoying 15 years of excellent food and service, place has gone to the dogs. Four of us had different meat dishes which were each almost uncuttable, overcooked , hard and inedible . Cheap cuts, badly cooked, undercooked chips, rock hard pastry. Took an hour to take our order although we were booked in for 1 pm, then some of the order was wrong. When we were asked how everything was, we expressed our disappointment and were immediately offered free puddings or money off the bill. We declined and will NOT be returning . Shame. Much better value to have a well cooked pensioner special at the chippie!!

Found this pub on a drive in the area beautiful pub / hotel n villagd although we weren't ready for food cld see food being brought out to others looks lovely. We just had coffees. Bar man even told me the history of the pub dating back to 1700s was very interesting will def stop there again n maybe a, wee overnight with dinner

Car parking was no problem. Helpful staff. Room was small. Me and my wife stayed there for one night. Shower was electric so was not very powerful. Shower cubicle was small. Toiletries were nice. The evening was noisy (karaoke), but this may not be typical. One hand towel and two bath towels were provided. The room did not have any USB points. Breakfast was included in the price, and was excellent. In summary room was adequate, food great, and value for money was fair.

Called in today for a meal, it was very disappointing, the food is nothing like it used to be, not many staff around.

We stayed here on our way from the north of Scotland to Gloucestershire. Found the place from the CAMRA website and what a find it was. Great choice of beer, wonderful food from an extensive menu and superb service from friendly staff. Very comfortable rooms with great shower room. Parking on-site. Breakfast was also excellent with a wide choice from which to choose. Charlotte, who looked after us for breakfast was really lovely and made the start to the day much more pleasant. We enjoyed our stay so much that we decided to stay again on our way back home. Again a wonderful night. It would certainly be our "local" if we lived in the area.

Well over 25 yrs since last in lovely waitress drinks order food ordered chicken and peppercorn sauce well never seen so much pepper corns ! Unfortunately not eatable veg just a bout cooked steak pie steak was lovely lid solid as a rock could not eat feel it's gone down hill new owners mm need to get a reality check other tables had left lids & veg so it wasn't just us! Might be another 25years

Having been a very regular visitor for about 15 years, I recently went for the first time since Lorraine sadly retired and unfortunately things have gone downhill. I normally have the 'specials board' pie, which was always a decent slice of a large pie with plenty of filling, lovely shortcrust pastry and a nice sauce. The veg had a bit of butter on them and the chips were lovely. This time the pie was an individual portion in a small dish with a lid of sorry pastry, it only contained a few pieces of chicken in a green sludge (leek?) and all I could taste was pepper. The veg were drab and the chips were worse than usual. After several requests my 'brown roll' arrived (without butter?) - the small dry end of a baguette, not the usual soft roll, so I queried the bread change and asked for some butter and a bit more bread. When it was brought I was told that they now make their own bread (instead of buying from Booths) and I was lucky as I hadn't paid for a roll - wow! I thought the £16.25 I had paid included my usual roll as I've never paid that much before, so they've clearly increased their prices as well as offering a vastly inferior product. I dread to think what they charge for a roll now. The only thing unchanged was the butter, when I eventually got some! Sadly Lorraine's 40 years have been ruined in less than 40 days and I just don't understand the changes when it was great before? Giving me a small bit of dry crust and no butter is a joke. Such a great place has been ruined, seemingly all in the name of greed - note the other recent poor reviews. Btw, the lady next to me didn't enjoy her meal either.

We went for a meal last night and the food and service were fantastic. As a Garstang local who eats out a lot, this is the best place to go for food. Couldn’t fault a thing. Thank you so much for a lovely evening.

We have been coming here for many years, never had anything to fault. The hospitality to the food has always been brilliant. The standard of the food is not the same although the menu is the same. The sandwiches weren’t full and wholesome like usual and the chips had no taste to them. Plate swimming in gravy that was greasy and tasteless, vegetables like mush and lacking any taste. We have never had any complaints here and feel deeply saddened that this was our recent experience. I hope this is just a few teething problems as this is one of our favourite places to visit. We did enjoy the table service.

Being a very fussy eater only liking chicken, I tried the chicken burger. OMG it was delicious I have to say it’s the best chicken burger I’ve ever had. The batter was light, the chicken was tender it was delicious and the rest of the plate was too. My husband had fish and chips he said that too was delicious, Again the batter was light and the fish so fresh and tender. We’ve tried to get back so many times but our work hours don’t allow it. Definitely recommended in this house.

Visited the Royal Oak yesterday with a good friend to order lunch, which had come highly recommended. Upon entering we found a table and sat down. I approached the young barmaid to request the Wi-Fi password. I politely said “excuse me do you have the Wi-Fi password?” All said with a smile, the girls response was “do you have the magic word?” In shock I replied “please?” to which her response was, that’s better! In complete bewilderment and feeling like a naughty child who definitely wasn’t getting pudding, we continued to order. Ribs with salad and slaw, Soup of the day (mushroom), and Garlic Mushrooms. The ribs arrived with no salad and a thimble of slaw, mushroom soup replaced for onion. All delivered by a disheveled waiter dressed in a soiled T-shirt and a stained dress jacket carrying our plates with a dirty tea towel. Food was below par and for what it was, pricey. Very disappointed and hope the landlord/lady can work on this to bring this otherwise lovely pub up to scratch.

Visited today.Ordered shoulder of lamb.This is one of my favourite meals at Royal Oak. Lamb normally served with fluffy mash and crisps vegetables and small amount of thick gravy.Unfortunately this was not the case today.The lamb and veg came absolutely swimming in watery gravy and the mash was one solid scoop.Very disappointing.

I have going to the Royal Oak for 23 years now . I have always loved it My fave waitress is Charlotte and my fave waiter is Louis ! They are fab . Stuart the new landlord is very caring about maintaining the high standard of the pub itself ! We keep coming because of the inherent good quality of food and ambience ! Jamie is very cool also ! He always checks to ensure that every customer is satisfied .

Sad Lorraine has gone. Bring back home made chips 👍 probably won’t visit again. We waited an hour and 10 minutes for our food which tbf is unacceptable.

Large group of us . I had prawn cocktail (£9.50 - which I thought was quite expensive ) roast beef & pavlova . The savoury food was nice - pavlova wasn’t - just mush with cream , not a slice of meringue or meringue nest - other desserts looked ok tho . First time I’ve eaten here. Was ok for a Sunday roast - probably wouldn’t try again tho . Pub was busy throughout our few hours there so is obviously popular.

it is with great sadness. i write this review as the landlady lorriane is retiring next week . The food as been continuosly exellant and always are favourite weekly meal out .The staff are always friendly and efficient , please new landlord dont change a thing its just perfect the way it is .Happy well deserved. retiremt lorraine

Fantastic staff, so friendly and helpful. 4 of us dined here, all had different food, Salmon, lamb chops, fillet steak (steak cooked to perfection), chicken madras. Everyone cleared their plates, lovely home cooked food. Would definatley go back.

Visited yesterday.We ordered well done lamb chops.They came anything but.My friend does not like a fuss.At end of meal waiter asked if all was good.We said firmly no and why.He said he would tell chef but no further response.I will not be rushing back and hope better from new owners

I'm an occasional (once or twice a year) visitor to Garstang and whenever I come up the first thing my local chum and I do is head to the Royal Oak. It's a proper pub! The Unicorn Bitter is always top-notch, the home-cooked food is delicious and the staff are welcoming. Long may it prosper.

Lovely large bedroom, very clean and lots of space, staff lovely, breakfast was amazing ! Proper butchers bacon and sausage , my room with breakfast was £75.00 a total Bargin If this was on three in a bed I would have paid £20 more 😊

Not only are all vegan options spicy, rendering them not options, but they don't even have an allergen book to ensure any allergic reactions don't happen. Girl at bar naively said they don't need one because "it's all in her head" when questioning on allergens...

We went for a birthday meal. The meal was adequate but I did not feel safe with my allergies as the staff did not seem to take it seriously, soy menu items were limited no chips. I ended up having lamb shank and mash. I think it is targeted at pensioners with soft veggies and menu items. But not price. If you want a traditional meal and don't mind the noise and bussel this is a great place. All the locals always recommend the Oak and the owner is quite renowned. There is a small car park. The staff are young and not seasoned so seems quite rude. I would recommend for a wholesome meal, but not a favourite of mine. Too noise, and lackluster menu offerings with limited understanding of allergens and customer service.

Great little pub full of local characters. The food was spot on. Chef went out of his way to add more heat to my dish. It was very tasty. The staff were friendly and helpful. Worth a return visit

Monday lunch visit. I had ploughman’s, big portion, lovely cheese & presentation is superb. Staff always friendly & helpful. Lots of seating out the front & a bit more in the car park which is a bit more shaded on a hot day.

I had Mediterranean Beef Pie and the second time Hake in Chef's sauce and they were gorgeous. My daughter had a lovely piece of trout and my friend had venison. They were all served with a good selection of vegetables too. We were all really pleased with the food. I wish we lived more locally so we could go more often.

We both ordered Roast Lamb lunch and can honestly say that the meat was cooked to perfection. Adequate portions of vegetables and the whole meal was served piping hot. Lovely staff, helpful and eager to please. Cannot recommend highly enough and we will see you next Sunday for an encore!!

So good ! Visiting Garstang for the day we tried a few other pubs and walked out , the Royal Oak was just right; friendly , accommodating , ale at the right temperature and great food. Very happy !

Food was fantastic,piping hot and a good portion size,supper was lovely as was breakfast,staff were very accommodating and pleasant,good manners. The beer was great,only 1 thing though,poached egg,my other half loves his runny and he is picky,it wasn’t hard but not soft either,just one of those things,thanks for a great stay,will return

Lunch time visit in the outdoor seating, enjoying the sun. I had ploughman’s, absolutely spot on, mega portion with some lovely cheese, brilliant dish. My wife had tuna sandwich & chips which she really enjoyed too & commented on the amount of filling in the sandwich. There is also small amount of seating at the rear. It’s a real pub, serving really good homemade food. Staff really lovely too. On the whole it’s impossible to fault.

Never ever had a sandwich so well packed, it was huge! Ordered a bowl of chips too Which were lovely, such a lovely lunch time experience 10/10 !

I spent the night here and had dinner and breakfast at the hotel. Hospitality was excellent, even though the staff were rushed off their feet on Saturday evening. I had the fish and chips for dinner, which were excellent - a generous portion, with light...

We love this pub, it has the old style feel , great hospitality & excellent food. Lots of smaller rooms to dine as well as dedicated restaurant.

Had a family meal at the oak today standard of food was excellent both starters Christmas lunch all served well very hot and tasted delicious as always excellent standard staff warm and friendly couldn’t fault anything thank you Lorraine and staff will definitely return
