Ate there tonight for the first time. Food was amazing from the chutneys with the poppadoms to the main course; beautifully cooked and presented. Delicious! The most amazing waitress; thank you

ordered just after 6pm. due to arrive 19:20 - eventually arrived at 20:35 and was cold. not impressed at all.

Had a delicious meal from here. Couldn't go to my normal spot in Dawlish as it was closed. Would highly recommend, friendly staff.

The food wasn’t great to be honest. It was pretty bland on the whole.

Ordered on just eat, 30 minutes pass and he cancels the order. I called up to see what happened, and was met with a stern response telling me that his just eat device is broken, no apology…so I said ok, it might be an idea to change that on just eat, so no one can order, as it will probably ruin people’s plans…as it had ours…he then shouted some incoherent stuff and put the phone down!! No offer to order what we wanted over the phone, no apology for wasting our time…so I’ll spend £50 elsewhere…going to Bombay delights instead.

Food was delicious and was delivered way before estimate so that was great!

Every time we come to Devon we try to have a curry. For years we struggled to find a decent restaurant. We found the Royal Indian and have to say won’t go elsewhere. Food always tasteful. Happy to recommend.

Amazing food - but a rather flat atmosphere and not the friendliest service. They didn’t tell us until we got the bill, that they only accept cash. Had to do a bank transfer there and then and made to feel very awkward and embarrassed. Who carries around £60 in cash these days??

We were on holiday in Devon popped in to ask if they allow dogs and to book a table for 2. All Ok but when we arrived to eat were told that they only allow guide dogs. We did eat there however the next day my husband was violently ill from food poisoning. Will not go there again.

The food is really delicious from the Royal Indian. We’ve had it before thoroughly enjoyed it then too. Especially loved the fact that our order was delivered earlier than we expected it. 5 star

OVER AN HOUR LATE. THE POOR DELIVERY GIRL WAS SO SORRY AS SHE KNEW THE FOOD WOULD BE COLD AND RUINED AS SHE HAD SEVERAL DELIVERIES BEFORE US. THE FOOD WAS SO COLD AND 3 DISHED WEREN’T EVEN IN THE ORDER. CALLED THE RESTAURANT TWICE AND THEIR RESPONSE WAS SO IGNORANT. ADVISING ME I WAS NOT THE INLY ONE AND THEY WERE TOO BUSY. Ordered from this restaurant using just eat, huge mistake. When we arrived to collect our food at the given time it hadn’t even been started so we had to wait another 15 minutes. Once the food was ready we were asked for payment to which I replied we had paid online as we ordered via Just Eat. It didn’t seem to register with the staff member but we left thinking nothing of it, we were about 100 yards down the street and the Manager/Owner was chasing after us shouting stop, so we did and he said we hadn’t paid. I said we had paid because on just eat you pay online then collect your order. He didn’t seem to have a clue how just eat worked, it also turned out we had been given the wrong order so we had to return to the restaurant, by the time we got home our food was cold even though it’s only a 5 minute walk from the restaurant. I couldn’t be bothered going back because of the carry on we had earlier. We have had plenty of orders from there before and even dined in with no issues, but on this occasion I didn’t recognise any staff from previous visits, possibly taken over etc but very disappointed with the food.

Ordered from just eat, it’s the worst takeaway I’ve ever had the ordered a butter chicken and it was completely tasteless does not taste like butter chicken what so ever, I wouldn’t recommend going. If you want Indian food , go Bombay delights or naz Indian

Restaurant has no idea of how ordering from just eat works. Our order collection time was 6:35 upon arrival at 6:35 our food hadn’t even been started so we had to wait even further. When it was eventually ready the restaurant wanted paying, we told them we paid when we ordered, they gave us the food and left, then we were about 100 yards from the restaurant and the manager was chasing after us shouting stop stop, I said what is wrong to which he replied you haven’t paid. I told we paid online when we ordered and did he have any clue how this system works, he looked vaguely at me so obviously not. Eventually after about 5 minutes explaining to him we left, by the the time we walked the 5 minutes to our house the food was stone cold and totally inedible.

I have been in several indian restaurants in England from Southall to India but what I had at this restaurant bore not a hint of resemblance to Indian cooking and food. I never tasted a dhall which was more like bisto gravy and the curries were all of the same gravy colour. Drinks were expensive and you could buy a better curry in tesco, Aldi's etc.

Used to enjoy this restaurant but some of the food has changed and has now become very disappointing. The restaurant is very tired and needs to up it's food and furnishings. Would not recommend.

I was recommended by a friend to eat at the Royal, I've only gave a 1 star because the starter's were okay, 3 of us had all different main dishes, no taste, sweet and runny, all 3 of us had an upset stomach the next morning, I won't be back again

Chicken needed to be hunted for in the biriyani

We decided to try this restaurant after trying the other Indians in teignmouth previously, I would say this one is the best, lovely crisp batter on the onion baghi starters, and one of the best saag dishes & Byriani dishes we’ve had for a long time. Service is also welcoming, highly recommend the royal 👍

Stopping at Welcome holiday park in Dawlish Warren. Ordered 4 mains from here. All were excellent, good quality, good portion size and an excellent delivery driver. Would recommend.

After being a regular customer for a few years, their customer service has dramatically fallen. After waiting 2 and a half hours for delivery, they sent eventually in a taxi, after complaining Abdul said he would honour a discount next time. Upon ordering all I was offered was free delivery which resulted in £2.50, kicking off and not having my custom ever again. Abdul said fine and hung up. Very rude and clearly doesn't care about his customers!

There is nothing royal about this restaurant. Abdul is extremely rude. Food is substandard and very highly priced. Drinks are ridiculous. Save your money people and order from teign Indian. Far far better food and service. Abdul trust me you won't be in business much longer if you don't change your customer service. Local people and local reviews matter.....

Can't say about the atmosphere as we had a take away, though it did seem flat when I picked it up. The Tika Masala had a really strange texture, tasted odd and was luke warm, the peshwari naan was wet, soggy and uncooked.

So, we had a booking of 5 people and the people were friendly, although service skills weren't really there. The question we all had was, why is our food so sweet? Everything had a sweet, sugary taste, from the naans to the curry. Just a real strange experience because it makes no sense! Felt like a family restaurant with the lady struggling to deliver your food to each person, almost shoving you out of the way so she can place the food down. Unfortunately we won't be returning which is a shame.

We chose this Indian restaurant because it had some good reviews on Trip Advisor. However i don’t know what everyone else was eating because as far as we were concerned, it was a load of tasteless slop! The lamb tikka masala that my husband ordered was completely lacking in chilli or any other spice. The best thing he had at that restaurant was a glass of water! I only had the one beer and we shared a naan. However a meal for 2 people still came to £52. Very poor value for money.

The staff are wonderful, and the food is always absolutely delicious. It is definitely the best Indian restaurant I've personally tried in the South West. Dining in or take out.

Really Disappointed with my meal on this occasion wasn’t as good as before and the chicken bhuna was definitely not anything to rave about so probably will not order again as the quality wasn’t as good and expensive for what it was

I went with my parents to this place . Owner of the restaurant ,Abdul was very rude to us. He misbehaved with my parents and was not at all interested in entertaining us as we ordered only vegetarian dishes . He was entertaining only those who ordered liquor . Asked us to pay in cash,charged for packing left over . I would recommend not to go to this resto .I have read few other comments and everyone has said the same about owner.

Good food: we shall order again. Portions were enough for two people: had to throw loads away, which was a pity. Shall order half as much next time. Delivery chap was a nice guy. Delivery window was 7:15 - 7:35 pm: arrived just after 8pm, so it was not all still hot. £41 for two curries/rice and small starters is on the high side, but it would have fed four easily!

Can not fault the food, if you ask for your food to be hotter or mild this will cater for your needs, happy days 😀

We have enjoyed a meal here numerous times and this week was no exception! Staff are polite and friendly! A restaurant where you can relax and enjoy an excellent meal, all freshly prepared! The Royal is not for lovers of convenience food, but where you book with the knowledge your evening will be well spent! The dish ‘Chat’ is very popular, originally as a starter, is now served as a main dish! We will be eating there again soon, not for any special occasion, but simply to enjoy the whole experience! Nothing about it for said Royal at all. No atmosphere. Waiter was on his own with a young blond helping. He was in a hurry to get the order to the point of being quite rude in hurrying us to choose. The menu was extensive but no more so than average with nothing eye catching . Overpriced by £5.99 for a bottle of beer. Good was enough but not special .... Flavours seemed similar as we tasted each others dinners. I will not be traveling 25 miles to go there again .

Poor service and probably the worse curry I have ever had I can’t believe this restaurant is still trading It’s so bad it’s hard to put into words but one thing they should ask you is how many sugars you want in your food a sweet chicken madras is revolting believe me and my wife had a sweet chicken Bhuna sounds laughable but it’s true. My first meal in any curry house is a chicken madras a basic requirement for any chef worth their salt but this restaurants chef needs to learn to cook or retire. If you visit this place you will regret especially if you like good Indian food. Oh yes they only take cash so clearly the business is skint.

I came here with my fiancé last week and the waitresses were absolutely lovely as well as the people who own the restaurant. The food was delicious, and we were served really quickly.

Paid for food that doesn’t turn up

Not the first time ordering here. But I ordered my food at 6:45. It didn't arrive until 8:50. The food was cold and one order wasn't even the right thing. As I ordered a chicken main and started. Then some how ended up with beef. I phoned at 8:15 asking for my food. And a very rude man answered saying how there was no food. Then hung up. No apology or even offer for a refund after taking two hours to get here. And it arrived stone cold

Ad hoc walk in at 5pm; fully booked later but fitted us in and said they could give us an hour which was fine. Nothing vegan in the menu but gave me a great vegan Madras. Bill came to £36, paid but no bill, receipt or change offered (not impressed) , had to ask; only take cash (why?)

We had a excellent takeout, mainly of vegetarian dishes. Large portions, all very fresh, including the naans and well priced.

I live in Teignmouth and have eaten plenty of times in each of the Indian restaurants we have here. Royal Indian is by far the best from a food quality perspective, closely followed by Teign Indian Cuisine. My personal recommendation is the Chicken Tikka Korahi or the Chicken Shobzi, both are excellent. There is no denying that inside it's a little run down but don't let than put you off - the food is worth it. Also note that it's cash only. Takeaway is very good but I would suggest ordering and collecting yourself over using apps like Just Eat. You get a discount collecting yourself and Just Eat Prices seem higher than in the restaurant.

Happy with food but downgraded one star as chicken chat was not the unique flavour I was expecting. It was just a tikka dish on a bed of lettuce. Rest of meal was OK and what one comes to expect of standard Indian/English curries although Kashmiri with banana was enjoyable

Worst Indian Food Ever in the UK that I have tasted!!!! Please don’t waste your money. They add sugar in every dish and it tastes nothing like Indian food. Pathetic experience. They claim Indian food but the cook is not Indian and base is sugar- completely weird! I personally asked the chef and they accepted they added sugar!

First time ordering from here, and will now be the last. Avoid.

I placed an order at 7.30pm, with an 8.55-9.15 delivery slot. It arrived at 9.45pm, when I was going to bed at 10 (work early next day), so it didn’t get eaten. I did phone to chase up and got an apology, but no offer of a partial refund. They said they were waiting for the driver and my food was being kept warm. It was lukewarm when it finally arrived over two hours after initially being ordered. I will never order from here again, especially when spending £26 on my order. Very disappointing.

Have dinned here many times but this is the first take away. Never again, the saag aloo was the worst I've ever had. Such a shame.

Ordered a takeaway this evening via just eat. I ordered chicken tikka masala which just tasted of tomato sauce and certainly had no coconut or flavour to it. I called the restaurant to inform them that I think they’ve sent the wrong dish, to be told it is tikka masala then the Indian man hung up. Avoid this restaurant as they have obviously changed chefs and it’s not good at all.

Tikka masala tasted nothing like it should.It was chicken in a red,bland gravy.Called restaurant to tell them and was told what we got was right and then they hung up.

We decided to order online @ 6.59pm, our meal was very good , tasty and good value for money, our only issue was it took them 2.5 hours to deliver it, after several calls to find out what was happening and being told it was on its way. When it eventually got here and it cost us for delivery as well we were told they were busy. Best to actually pick it up yourselves

Shocking delivery times delayed twice

Said available for delivery at 18:40 Once the order had been placed 18:40-19:00 Driver turned up at 19:25, saying, "I have 5 to deliver." Food had clearly been ready for ages as the bread was cold (chucked in the bin), and everything else had to be microwaved. Very poor, Fed up with the below par service when ordering on Just eat

Delicious food and great service, as always. Some lovely sauces, full of flavour - we particularly loved the archari. Competitively priced and we appreciated the patience of the staff while we nattered at the end of the night. See you next year!

Nov 26th. Spent my birthday here tonight with family. Cannot fault the place at all. The food was exceptional, both for quantity quality and price. Coming from the West Midlands where we have an abundance of Indian restaurants this is by far one of the best we have eaten in. Many many thanks. Mick Evans and family.

All the dishes were too runny. Tarka dahl was like a soup. The King prawn was tough, like it'd been cooked too long or cooked twice. The rice and naan were fine. The poppadoms were ok, but a bit thin, so difficult to pick up food with. 3/4 people who ate the meal has gastric distress afterward. I'm worried the food was contaminated.
