Parce que sommes des touristes francais ou nos tetes leur revenaient pas... salle tt en bois peu decoré...service pas agreable ,long, impression de les deranger...quand aux pizza un gris bif, jambon salee sauce sucrée..une vrai deception..les photos misent sur ce site sont la salle des ptits dejeuner et pas celle du resto,dont la vue donne sur le parking...

Not a nice place. Staff very unwelcoming. Served locals at the bar before me. Would not visit again.

An excellent meal at great value prices accompanied by exceptional service from Ross who worked behind the bar and waiting table. The olives were nice and fresh, the smoked salmon succulent, my venison burger really tasteful. Have no hesitation in recommending the Royal Hotel bar and restaurant .

Fantastic service! We visited on 14 October 2022 - me, my wife and our two children. We had already checked if we needed to book and were told to come at 8pm as they had a coach party eating earlier in the evening so it would be busy. It was nice that they remembered us later that day when we arrived. My daughter asked if they had orange Fanta and they didn't. Normally we would just order something else but one of the three staff recommended we try something else, which we did and my daughter loved. The food was excellent - apart from one thing. My daughter said her ice cream tasted strange. Again, normally we would just order something else. But when we told one of the other staff he tried the ice cream, agreed and replaced it. Not only that he said he had discussed the problem with the chef and had taste tested the other batch of ice cream to check it was okay, which it was. An older couple were eating near us and we heard them asking about local places to visit. We noticed that the one of the staff sat down with them, used their own phone and spent around ten minutes talking them through local destinations. We also noticed an American family near us at the bar who wanted to try different whiskies. The barman spent lots of time with them talking them through different options, tastes and histories. All of the staff were friendly, welcoming, helpful and knowledgeable - everything you could ask for and more - which is why we are giving them five stars! We enjoyed good service from lots of other places in the area but this team really stood out and we would definitely recommend and visit again.

There were 12 of us and we all enjoyed very pleasant meals at a very reasonable cost. We subsequently learned that all of our food was cooked by a chef who was working in the kitchen on her own. So a big well done to her

Walked in around 7:30 and asked for a table for 2. There were at least 5/6 tables available and only a few being used. Waitress asked if we were staying at the hotel, we said no, and she said she had to ask the chef. 5 mins later she came back and said the tables were for residents that might come in and they were about to stop serving food shortly. After reading previous reviews about this place, I wasn’t too surprised. We only came here as a last resort. I’m glad we didn’t give them any of our money. Didn’t moan at the waitress as she is the poor girl who has to deliver the bad news to potential customers.

I stayed at the hotel, but the bar experience was far superior to hotel experience. Would recommend bar for eating and staff friendly.

We arrived as a family, we ordered our mains (which was horrific quality) and we approached the bar to order dessert. We were told it wasn’t possible to order a scoop ice cream into a bowl due to there being a coach (arriving after us) and ordering food. The chef is incompetent and rude, my child was in tears because he wasn’t allowed an ice cream. If this was explained to us pre ordering food then this would of been fine, but to not be transparent from the beginning is terrible service. Our family have been coming here for over 50 years and to be treated like this is dreadful. Disgusted with the quality, and horrific service. You should fire that chef. He ain’t worth his salts, or hire more people to keep up with the demand of service of a hotel. Stop cutting corners and start caring.

Nice hotel bar. Good service and a good menu. Food was good. Good selection of drinks including beers gins and whisky. Came in a camper van, you can stay in the rear car park for £10 without hook up. Not a lot of spaces so book ahead of time. Central for the town so easy walk to their bars etc

Stayed at the hotel in July for 2 nights but didn't eat in the bar/restaurant. Missed out because when back in October food was excellent. Had a trout starter and a vension burger main. I know some people will not like them being in 'food areas' but noted that dogs were allowed under tables. I'm all for it!

Popped in on a rainy day, looking for food and some drinks. Place was empty except for one table but every other table was reserved. We asked the barmaid if we could sit down but was told they were being kept for hotel residents so we sat outside under cover with our drinks. All the time we were there no one sat at any of the reserved tables so we felt that we could have been sitting there. Very disappointed.

We are doing the NC500, 2 couples in motor homes and a couple in a car. We were booked onto the car park with our motor homes which has 5 electric hook ups. The other couple stayed in the hotel. The hotel looks old and dated but when we’re in later for an evening meal it came to life with music and vibrant atmosphere and very busy. The owners had a connection with us as their son has taken over a restaurant pub near Worcester. Beer and wine was ok, food was fantastic. I had the chicken curry with chips and rice, just like a Chinese take away, fantastic. Also the ladies had pasta dishes and pizza, all were great and we put as one of the best on the route. Just remember to book a table as everywhere is fully booked on the NC500 route.

We have literally just finished a meal here, we are doing the NC500 and spending the night in Ullapool. Most places are closed on Mondays, however we turned up at the Royal Hotel starving after travelling all day and some rude service at 'The Ferry Inn'. Upon arrival at the Royal Hotel the lady greeted us telling us they were totally full, however improvised and asked us if we would like to dine in the lounge, which we jumped at. The 2 Polish ladies interacted with us pleasantly throughout our visit and our service and food was quick, we had steak pie which was lovely. Highly recommend visiting here for a hearty meal - such a pleasant experience made by 2 lovely waitresses!

Having phoned to make a reservation, only to be told they dont take reservations. We were quite surprised to find only one table without a RESERVED ticket on it. Anyway, we were given a table, from there it went rapidly downhill. I ordered the Steak Pie, so full of gristle that the waitress was shown it and it was removed from the bill. Quite reasonable you would think, but, her comment, "The chef made it 2 days ago, and did not see a problem." My wife had the Venison Burger but could only say OK. Staff were attentive, but, sadly not a nice experience, especially the comment about 2 day old serving.

Nice bar with views over Loch Broom, pleasant seating area. Friendly, welcoming staff who were very efficient and service was excellent. Dog friendly which is great and the bar staff had a supply of doggie biscuits. Extensive menu to cater for all tastes. Portions were very generous.

Me and my wife had a meal here tonight and it was very good 👌. Wife had pizza and I had steak both meals were great the waiter and waitress were also very attentive and stocked local beers and whiskey. Overall a great meal.

Due to Covid restrictions the menu was abbreviated. However, the service was excellent, rapid and very pleasant. Order was taken swiftly and wine served promptly. The wine list was not as extensive as one would have expected. The Antipasto Misto dish did not disappoint; everything...

Lovely surprise. We went here to eat after a day's climb at Stac Pollaidh. What a find! The staff were super and the ambience very friendly. Do not be put off by the bland 80s (I think) exterior. Good selection of beers and superb range...

Popped in on our first night at Ullapool, nice vibe and cozy... dog friendly... amazing choice of whiskeys... reasonably priced drinks. Manager has a German shepherd, hence the pic on the wall ( as I have a GSD this went down well !)

Hotel is clean and has great views from the front rooms. Best asset is the staff they do the place proud. Looked after our every need and were welcoming and helpful and friendly. Food is good but menu could do with some more variety but...

Just had two weeks staying here with work. The rooms are large and comfortable with an en suite. Room is cleaned everyday to a high standard. Food is lovely here and a very nice bar. The staff are amazing, very friendly and helpful. Cant wait...

Arrived in Ullapool late on our Rabbie’s tour & this was the first restaurant we encountered as we were staying just up the hill at Ullaview. Staff was very attentive, accommodating & food was delicious! My husband, daughter & I thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience...

I had a Caprese salad and my mate an antipasti meat plate both were reasonable. Our mains could only be callers Italian from someone who has never eaten Italian. I had a calzone. The crust was not Italian As far as I am concerned but...

Very nice hotel. Would have liked a loch view but there were none available. The view from the back was quite nice. Would definitely go again if in the area

You must try the Italian menu - authentic and simply beautiful.......but don't tell too may people its a secret.

Had a bar meal last night and it was great. Daily specials on the blackboard. Very tasty and good sized portions. My Calzone was too much for me to eat as it had 4 fillings!! Yummy sticky toffee pudding. Very pleasant staff. Bar very well...

We were staying at the Royal Hotel and this is the attached bar / restaurant. I ordered the Spaghetti Carbonara, which was okay; my traveling partner ordered a pizza, which was also okay. We shared the sticky toffee pudding for desert and it was okay....

Stayed here as part of a motoring group of some 20 + cars. We had a very enjoyable 3 days stay with good food and good hosts. Ample parking for our cars.

I had the most delicious vegan pizza! The service was great too. Vegan food isn’t easy to come by in the north so dining here was a lovely surprise.

Just a few minutes walk from Harbour House hotel. Staff were very obliging and good choice of lagers.

My pizza (quatro staggioni) was terrible - stodgy and tasteless. Mike emjoyed his though, so maybe I was just unlucky.

The bar in the Royal was much better than I expected because, rather than it being furnished and decorated like some hotel lounge, the style is straightforward pub. And although the abundance of wood is a tad dated, it’s a nice enough place to have a pint nevertheless and I’d happily use it again.

This was billed as an Italian restaurant but offered a wider selection. We were in the bar as the restaurant wasn’t open. It’s a hotel bar first and foremost. It has thick log panelling on the walls and I agree with other posters that makes it dated but it was warm, comfortable and friendly. Not the greatest beer selection in town but good choice of whisky. The food was home cooked fairly straightforward. Good portions and nice. Also good value.

We call in here rather late on in the evening, but that said they were really happy to accommodate us. Three of us ordered pasta. All dishes were really lovely and service with a smile. Thanks to all involved for a great meal.

The bar is getting a tad old, but it’s friendly, the prices are fair and it’s well stocked. Also, if your in Ullapool for a while, it’s a nice break from the usual ambiance offered at the the other (good) bars.

Stopped off for a quick drink and found their whisky menu spectacular. As I have said before I have travelled all over Scotland and have seen some amazing displays of whisky but this one beats every other pub hands down. They have a four page booklet mentioning every whisky that they have.

A nice bar near the centre of Ullapool but with space and peace away from the bustling pubs of the town. When we were there is served real ale from hand pumps and a choice of more than 260 whiskies at reasonable prices. Just what you need after a busy day.

We called here for lunch and had a very pleasant time indeed. The bar has a nice atmosphere and is very pleasantly decorated. They serve a range of meals throughout the day including full 'mains' and more casual items. We had vegetarian toasties with salad which were fresh and excellent. Service was extremely good - the barman was really friendly and we very much enjoyed our chat with him. We would definitely return here for lunch or evening meal.

The Italian restaurant looked so tempting but we were sorely disappointed. Menu is very typical but the food was not what expected. The starters and garlic bread were over seasoned to the point we could not finish. The carbonara (traditionally most egg flavoured) was just cream and far too much parsley. In fact it just tasted of parsley and nothing else. My wife did not enjoy her pasta either.

This is a very nice bar/lounge with a varied selection of beers and liquors. A mice place to visit before or after dinner.

We ate in the hotel on one of the nights we stayed here. Our starters were OK, but both my garlic bread and my wife's insalata caprese were served with a substantial salad. My roast lamb was nice, but my wife's langoustines were not particularly good and were served with a huge pile of rice and salad. Service was friendly and efficient, but overall it was the least appetising dinner we had in Ullapool.

Since the last visit the menu has been altered a little with their new addition introduced by their Executive Chef, Ullapollo. Butterflied Chicken on a pasta base, with their own secret sauce. Simply delicious, and perfectly cooked,

The food was as great as the view. The staff were friendly and efficient. I enjoyed eating there and just being there. Thank you for a lovely evening.

We have just had a evening meal here we were sat overlooking the Loch, the service was good a varied choice on the menu several pasta dishes as well as pasta along with fish and meat dishes, we all enjoyed our meals and they were generous portions and decently priced along with great service. Thanks for a pleasant evening

Die Bar im Hotel Royal in Ullapool ist sehr gut mit Getränken ausgestattet. Die Räumlichkeiten sind großzügig und gemütlich. Das Personal hinter der Theke war freundlich und kompetent.

We ate dinner in this lounge and thoroughly enjoyed a meal of appetizers and pasta. For starters, we had the langoustines, smoked trout, and Italian polpetta. (Meatballs). We order spaghetti bolognese, telling the waitress that we would split it, due to the large portion sizes. They were nice enough to serve it already split into 2 bowls for us. Service was prompt and food was delicious. My husband took some time selecting his after dinner whisky from a 6-page offering. Impressive.

We were met by a friendly and helpful waitress who guided us straight to the restaurant as there was a noisy Driver's Club party in the bar (one of the downsides to the NC500). Our drinks and food order were dealt with promptly and we had a very enjoyable Italian-style meal. Away from the bar, the conservatory restaurant was a quiet and peaceful setting. For an hotel, we thought that the prices were quite reasonable. We did not stay here so cannot comment on accommodation.

The bar offers the usual Italian food - is looks decent enough but we had an evening meal included which was served at he hotel. I think I would have loved to switch places as the hotel meal wasn't as good as the Italian food looked! What really rocks it their choice of whiskys! We had some whisky connaisseurs in our group who had fun testing exotic ones! With the wooden funiture it looks cozy, you can even sit outside if you can bear the midges!

Excellent Lamb dinner served by friendly staff. Comfortable surroundings. The beer was excellent too.

Had a couple of Pizzas here and they both were very good, nice crispy base and plenty toppings. Nice ambience in the bar although quite quiet and the young bar staff were very good. We only found out they did pizzas by checking TA, other meals going out also looked good.

This bar delivers good food and with good and cheery service.

I was somewhat surprised that the bar had the same menu as the lounge and both were Italian. My wife opted for the smoked trout pizza and I had the Volcano. The trout pizza was filled with smoky, Scottish Trout and mine was spicy. Both pizzas were excellent. The crust had a nice char to it which enhanced the flavors. If you are a whiskey drinker, no better selection. They could up their game on the beer selection.

popped in for a few drinks on way back to hotel, was quite and peaceful bar when we visited, if you want a quite drink and have a chat its the place to go the bar staff were very friendly and accommodating

Great selection of about 250 scotch whiskies, good food and friendly staff. Hotel is clean with a relaxing atmosphere.

Some of the locals hyped this place up while we sought advice on where to dine. The place is ok, but not as good as they made out. But perhaps it's as good as anywhere you'll find in Ullapool in winter.

We went as non resident visitors to the bar and Italian style restaurant and had a very pleasant evening. The staff were very welcoming and the whole place had a friendly atmosphere. It was a very quiet time of year (early November) but there were local people drinking and dining which gave it a warm atmosphere. The restaurant serves an excellent range of pastas and pizzas plus other dishes. The pizzas were good. We added olives to the basic vegetarian ones and there were plenty added. Often in restaurants you pay for an extra topping and can't see what you paid for, but here was fine. We also ordered a side salad and this was excellent. Overall we enjoyed our evening and would definitely come back here.

You would need at least a week at this hotel to sample all the whisky! Very cosy and obviously popular with the locals.

Good food and very helpful staff. Lots of space in the bar for large parties very accommodating one drawback there is no baby changing facility

Attached to the Hotel, the restaurant has the use of their car park. There are steps to go in and more to the dining area. The Menu is good, the food and service good.

We had one meal at this hotel. it took us 30 min to get a servers attention. If you want guest (out of country specifically) to enjoy their time, then have a sigh somewhere that states that you need to go to the bar to order everything. Locals had server service at their table but we did not until we walked up to the bar.

I called RH back in March and booked 1 x room for September, confirmed on Tel., 1 week later I called to ask for my confirmation to be told that the hotel was full on that evening and "sorry" but a mistake had been made. However we will place you on top of the waiting list and let you know if a room does come available. I called every week over a 2 month period, speaking to the reservation person and a duty manageress. On now first name terms I was given a reassurance that I was still on the top of the list. Over 2 weeks before the 3rd of September I know that at least 3 rooms had became available, did I get a call NO.

Stayed here during the last Loopallu festival and the place was average from start to finish but the Italian restaurant was probably less than average. Shame as it is in a great location

As soon as you walk in you can't help but notice a gantry full of great malt whiskys , a nice friendly atmosphere , and as luck would have it a local singer was playing that night , what started as a quick dram lasted for a few hours , just chilling to the music , and talking to a lot of locals , make this a stop not to be missed .

While we enjoyed our evening bar meal and the quality of the food more than acceptable there was a feeling that something was just lacking to move everything up a level to attract more customers.

Great bar with very friendly staff. Food was good and was served promptly. We figured out the ordering system of the whiskies, but would not attempt to try and drink one of each. well worth a visit.

just thought you might like to know sea trout are farmed in the loch opposite and are served in the bar as a sandwich with superb bread.highly recommended although some might find the horseradish sauce a little intrusive

We stayed at the Royal for a few nights but only ate once in the bar... edible but disappointing was the verdict on 3 meals.

We booked this at the last minute on our North Coast 500 trip. We were offered a cheaper room at the back rather than a loch view. we went for this but when we arrived we found ourselves in a room at the front with a loch view. The beds were large and comfy so I was able to sleep for the first time on the trip. Breakfast was also very adequate with lots of choice. Staff were chatty and friendly.

Not many places open to eat in late October but we had lovely family meal here. Boys were happy with pizza and burgers and we had a very tart steak pie and chips. I had smoked trout starter and my partner had a very tast mussels and chips. A litre of montepuciano for £12.99 made it a wholesome family meal

The breakfast is excellent and the bar has the largest selection of malt whisky in town. The staff are very friendly and helpful and already booked up for next year.

This restaurant is worth the short walk from the town centre. The lounge bar is a very relaxed area to dine in. The staff are very friendly and attentive. The food was very good and fairly reasonable in price. I had the steak pie which was excellent. It was that good that we ate here on three occasions. Everything we ate was of good quality. If you drink malt whisky then you have an amazing choice of tipple. Well worth a visit!

Good food for a reasonable price. Quiet location. The locals eat here. One of the best pub meal restaurants in the area.

On our first visit we had steak which was cooked exactly as we requested. Delicious. On our second night we had spaghetti carbonara & again it was delicious. My grandson had pizza both nights which he enjoyed.

The whisky collection was memorable as was the range of Pasta and Pizza on the menu. Do not ignore the produce from the local smokehouse, trout or salmon hot or cold smoked.

The Waterfront Bar is a nicely laid out restaurant with friendly staff. My wife and I each had the same roast chicken based dish with plenty of small potatoes and vegetables, which I thought was really great. My wife thought it was good - hmm. Anyway we plan on going back tonight as I don't think it warrants a No 17 rating in Ullapool. It opens at 5.30 pm which suits us early eaters as well.

We stopped in at the Royal Hotel Bar restaurant after being shocked at the prices being charged for a bowl of soup at a nearby Hotel. The Royal Hortel Bar was lively and airy with a friendly open atmosphere. The menu has some unique and adventurous choices - which appealed to us all, so we will need to return and try them all.

The starter and fish we ordered were excellent but the servings were really just too large. We discovered that at this restaurant as throughout Scotland, sharing courses must be frowned upon. We were always told a serving was a small size even if it was enormous! Service was fast and friendly.

Good food reasonably priced. Serves the same menu as the more elaborate restaurant in the hotel. I think the challenge is naming their soups. They had soup of the day as minestrone but it really was tomato vegetable.
