I stayed here for one night before the ferry trip to Lewis. Nice spacious hotel with great views over Loch Broom. Hiking opportunities e.g. to Ullapool Hill. Food is recommended.

We stayed here 2 nights the 3rd week of October. The rooms were spacious and very clean. The restaurant was outstanding. We had breakfast and dinner twice. The view of Loch Broom was breathtaking. Staff was very personable and eager to please. We loved this hotel.

This was our last hotel after a week long tour of the Highlands after staying in some beautiful and inexpensive hotels. We were so dissatisfied and disappointed with the Royal Hotel in Portree as it was as far from royal as you can get. The only good point was the view from our supposedly "superior" room for £233 a night bed and breakfast. The fruit was all tinned, bread in plastic bags served at breakfast. My partner asked for egg on toast and was informed that he could make the toast and put the egg on as they dont serve the egg on toast. The guy on reception was rude and unhelpful. He informed us on arrival that they don't offer maid service. If we hadn't already paid in full, after seeing the very small room and bathroom, we would have left. The towels were grey, threadbare and extremely small. The bedroom hadn't been updated since 1970. We actually felt, we certainly didn't get what we paid for and the advertising was inaccurate. I would not recommend anyone to stay here. Its basically a 1 star b and b not a hotel.

Call the Lounge Bar a restaurant. This, with a change of menu, gives rise to inflated prices. Give it a miss, it's still just a pub and prices are over the top. Better deals to be had in the Argyle.

After a cross-country drive of 250 miles the royal hotel was a welcome sight, staff were very friendly and very helpful The rooms were spotlessly clean, The beds were very comfortable wish you could have stayed there a few more nights. Evening meal was fantastic and the choices of wines and spirits was brilliant. We will be definitely be back

Very comfortable room, clean and a good size. Shower was amazing, just what was needed after a day on the road. Food was expensive but exceptionally good. All courses well presented and tasted amazing. Would highly recommend this as a stop on the NC500.

We had a brand new renovated room (at the backside). The bed, the bathroom, the towels, the curtains all were new. The staff (specially the manager) is super friendly and the breakfast was great. Also the bar is a great place to have a drink. Have the idea that all is changed in the last 5-6 months because I can’t recognise any of the complaining in the reviews from 5 months and backwards.

Enjoyed my stay here - probably the best of my Scottish trip so far. Food was great and dinner service was awesome. Rooms nice - appears they have been renovated not so long ago. Great location.

My wife and I stayed here for the Easter weekend, having our first child free break in since our daughter was born. We had come in just as the renovations had been complete at the hotel looks amazing. The staff were great, helpful and friendly, in particular the manager Cameron, front desk Finn and barman Donnie. In terms of food and drink, we had breakfast here and thought the menu was fantastic, we ate the highland breakfast and pancakes. Both were very good quality. The bar was well stocked, busy and had a good atmosphere. The location of the hotel is almost worth mentioning, overlooking loch broom, with the local hill walks starting behind the hotel. Within a minutes walk you also have a number of pubs and restaurants to eat at.

Very tasty food, good selection, many options including vegetarian or vegan. The atmosphere could be a bit more cozy, but the food was very good and the service was very friendly.

Top quality fish and chips with a good portion size. The batter was light and crispy, not too thick. Perfectly cooked Haddock fish with great flavour. Chips were cooked in proper dripping oil and really tasty. The owners are lovely people and very welcoming providing a great service. Always chatty and very friendly with good sense of humour. Dexter my Golden Lab got a free jumbo sausage and was well impressed. Woof, woof ! Thanks for a great meal and we will be back soon for some more !

So glad I found this kabab shop. Best kababs I think I’ve ever had in the uk. Staff are all extremely and genuinely polite and helpful. Very welcoming and always go the extra mile whenever myself or my family are in, fantastic with our four young children whilst we wait. The food is exceptional and always prepared fresh and quick without long waits. Their lamb is off the chart good I must say and their coleslaw I always ask for extra as it’s fantastic. Very well priced and the portion sizes are great. Atmosphere is brilliant. Shop is clean and everything can be seen cooked in front of you and prepared the same. If I’m not getting a takeaway delivery and go into the shop I pass a fish and chip shop, an Indian takeaway, a Chinese and another kabab shop on my way to County Kabab as it’s definitely worth it to get such great food and value for money especially when i have a family of six to feed. Decided to put this review on tonight as went to their website as I’m about to order food for my wife and I and thought I’d give these guys an honest shout out as the whole team deserve it.

I can't believe the glowing reviews. The hotel represents a bit of faded glory. It is obviously understaffed and suffers from a lack of investment. We stayed two nights in two different rooms (due to peculiarities of our own itinerary/planning). The rooms are old, clean in the places you'll generally look (less so in places you usually don't) but generally in need of some maintenance and refurbishment. That said - the beds are good and the rooms come with a good coffee machine, kettle and fresh milk to go with it. The food was okay, if inconsistent. For someone working in hospitality the (who I presume to be the) hotel manager appeared quite inhospitable. She mostly gave the impression that having guests was quite the burden. I do want to add that the other staff - obviously too few in number - worked very hard and did their utmost to keep things running.
