Garth Hotel and Restaurant in Highland

I can't believe the glowing reviews. The hotel represents a bit of faded glory. It is obviously understaffed and suffers from a lack of investment. We stayed two nights in two different rooms (due to peculiarities of our own itinerary/planning). The rooms are old, clean in the places you'll generally look (less so in places you usually don't) but generally in need of some maintenance and refurbishment. That said - the beds are good and the rooms come with a good coffee machine, kettle and fresh milk to go with it. The food was okay, if inconsistent. For someone working in hospitality the (who I presume to be the) hotel manager appeared quite inhospitable. She mostly gave the impression that having guests was quite the burden. I do want to add that the other staff - obviously too few in number - worked very hard and did their utmost to keep things running.

Peter was fantastic, super attentive. Lovely food and I was kindly packaged up what I couldn't finish, and great whisky recommendations. Lovely warm open fires, and ended up having lovely chats with other guests

We had a disappointing meal out here. Turned up for a booking for 8 and were shown to two tables of four which they did help rearrange but not a great start. Orders were taken promptly but food service was a little slow given we were the only diners but the food was generally fine. After finishing our mains we had to ask for the dessert menu, no one came to collect our empty plates for ages and then we had to flag some down after a wait to order desserts. Desserts were then delivered without everything listed on the menu and when delivered the fruit was bad. We complained at this point and the staff were apologetic but overall service was disappointing considering the place was very quiet. This is a real drop in standards from a few years ago with excellent food, hard to select what to go for as many delicious dishes on the menu.

The room and the hotel generally were in excellent shape. The welcome was friendly and helpful as were the staff in the bar and the restaurant at breakfast. The room was well equipped, the beds comfy and the bathroom spotless.Nothing with which to find fault, and all at a very good price.

Great place for a Sunday lunch, at a very reasonable price. Perfectly cooked roast beef was a particular highlight. Staff are very friendly and fun, too.

Stopped by with a large group for Sunday Lunch - great roasts, great burgers, amazing quality all round with excellent appetizers. Highly recommended.

From all the accomodations we had in this price range in Scotland the Garth Hotel is at the bottom of the ranking. Room smelt like sheep and wasn’t clean, hairs in the tub, dirty coffee machine with koffie from the previous guests and ripped carpets. Staff didn’t seem to happy that we were there except for the guy in the restaurant who definitely tried. Got sick from the dinner we had as we choose the fish on the menu. Next day breakfast was also disappointing, the sausage looked liked it was cooked the day before, let’s not say more. One more then; shower sounds like a lawn mower.

Service was limited due to a British team football match. Service but friendly, just overwhelmed. But the food was very tasty and the atmosphere was nice

This was the charred piece of beef burger after waiting literally an hour for mains to be served. Unfortunately this restaurant appears to be the only one opened. Have some pride in the quality of food served, Garth Hotel

Food was not very good and was just warm there was only us in restuarant so mo excuse. Waiter was terrible didn't have a clue what he was doing

Great staff , room needs attention, a good clean would help , it was comfortable enough , breakfast was okay but could be improved.

Very disappointed. We booked a table with 2 friends before we travelled because it looked good. The food was good and hot. But, the staff service was really bad, no welcome to the table, no personality, no conversation / pleasantries. I shared the mussels starter with my friend which took only 20 mins but we didn't receive our main courses until 8.55 (we booked the table for 7.30pm) by which time we were starving and tired. There was no apology or explanation for the lateness from the serving staff. We weren't asked for more drinks or offered a dessert or coffees. Extremely disappointed. Would recommend staff training!

Only ate at the Garth. Unfortunately, didn't feel the lady behind the bar was welcoming, no warmth or pleasantries. Meat and vegetable pie was ok but my fish meal was a very small portion plus skin was still on the fish.

We just went to restaurant for Sunday Lunch. Each dish brought to us was perfectly cooked and delicious. Had a great relaxed afternoon

We got stuck in bad weather and had to book into this hotel urgently. They were expecting 3 people that night but ended up with all 16 rooms booked. You would not be able to tell that they were massively short staffed due to this. They treated us very well, were attentive and every member of staff we dealt with was chatty and friendly. The rooms were spotless and we had a comfy night. Breakfast was very good, plenty of variety and despite only 1 member of staff to wait the tables, she was excellent and we wanted for nothing. I'd highly recommend this hotel.
