Royal cod is a really good local fish and chip plaice. My fish is always fresh and firm and the batter crisp, and it's usually cooked to order, chips are generous, you can eat in or take away.

The BEST place for fish and chips in Chorlton. We called in Friday night. The fish was cooked perfectly. A even coating of batter and a good size. The chips were crisp and again a good portion. The mushy peas were as they are meant to be MUSHY. First Class Chippy. And the advantage of being able to sit in and eat for a small charge. We'll worth a visit.

Always get the fish n chips from this place. Is halal too. Gets pretty busy.

Thought it was about time i gave a review as i now realise to have this place so close to home is a Gift from the Gods. I love chippy chips but also trying to lose weight. The chips from here are 100% along with the gravy & curry sauces.

Brilliant place Very friendly service

Wow, what an amazing find! Huge portions of fish and chips at an excellent price. The person who served us was so nice and friendly too, complimented my son’s manners when he ordered himself and chatted about his son who had just started high school. No trouble for them at all to let us box up what we couldn’t eat. We left at least half as it was so much.

Halal places, the owner very nice, he even give us extra fish. It is delicious, we able to finish it even it was big portion.

It Went down hill over the last few years the man who runs it is so slow and doesn’t listen to orders properly so that’s most likely why . Blatantly ignored me when i asked for salt and vinegar on chips and then when I said I asked for S&V again he said if you asked I would have put it on .. so must be blatantly deaf or just not well , last few times fish had tasted stale like a wet carpet taste as if it’s been kept in a mouldy wet cellar . Hope it gets better soon as everywhere else in Chorlton for fish and chips is very poor . Also Stay away from the one opposite the old swimming baths also he’s a racist and can be rude to customers… food ain’t all that either

My family have been coming to this chippy for years and it is hands down the best to go to in Manchester. Even when I fly back home from Canada, it’s a must to visit here for authentic fish and chips. The curry selection is great, lots of offers and children’s options available. We sit in and everything is cooked to order and the couple who run the place always go out of their way to make you feel cared for. I would encourage you to support this place over the chain shops. I can’t wait to come back again!

Personally, I am far from impressed by the fish shops in Manchester, compared to those where I grew up in West Yorkshire. However, this is definitely one of the best here. The fish is white and flaky, the batter is crunchy and the chips are fluffy. The owner is really pleasant also. Well worth a visit.

Went with my uncle who is disabled they were so helpful in every way and the food was fantastic very good portions the chicken burger was lovely thankyou guys we will be back x

Fish was disgusting, smelt and tasted off, steak pudding suet was brown and looked over cooked, fish cake was dry and tastless

Dirty tables. Not a pleasant experience. Unfriendly and aggressive owner. Not a privilege to eat here by any means. The other places in Chorlton are more modern and cleaner.

Best fish & chips around by far. Choice of fish cod or haddock cooked fresh when you order. Chips are good to. Highly recommended.

Extremely nice man running The Royal Cod. Fish and chips always fresh, not sitting under a heater for hours. The haddock, which is my preferred fish, comes in small or large portions. A large portion is sufficient for two and the chip portions are very generous. Because everything is made to order there is usually a short wait, only five or ten minutes. You can eat in and there is a 50p extra charge for this. The food is excellent. Cash only.

Starting with the good, it's a big, clean and airy takeaway so you don't need to queue outside. There's a decent selection on the menu, including Irish Curry which was new to me. There is a table if you want to eat in, although there is a service charge for this. The staff are friendly and effective, and when I went they made a fresh batch of chips which were fine. However, the fish we bought were all very oily which is normally due to not being drained correctly or too low oil temperature - maybe it's a one off. The fish were a good size and cooked. I wouldn't normally go to so much detail, but Chorlton is full of competitive takeaways so the standard has to be high.

Excellent sit in and takeaway chip shop. Chips Excellent. Good variety of typical chip shop items. Welcoming. No toilets.

Update: been here a few times after my initial glowing review and my conclusion is it is pretty substandard. The chips have tasted undercooked a few times. Nothing special about the food at all and you get charged London prices.

Nice fish and chips however we have been a customer for years so the owners know were regulars. However we don't feel welcomed at all. They are miserable and act like they are doing you a favour serving you. I don't get any welcome. Just miserable faces and small portions for what you pay. I told my mum I'm not going back just for the way they make you feel. When you have a business you should treat your customers well especially when they have been regulars and are paying your pocket.

Good sized portions. Vegetarian gravy and curry sauces. Good spring rolls. Pleasant staff. Seats a few people extra 50p per person.

Royal Cod is a Excellent Chippy to go to, and order your fish and chips etc and sit down and eat, it also got a toilet 🚻 at the back as well.

First time at Royal Cod tonight. Extremely good fish and chips and my daughter loved her battered sausage! Generous portions and good value for money. The gentleman and lady behind the counter were really friendly too. We will be back!

Back in Madchester for a week from sunny Dubai and obviously have to have fish and chips innit. I did try another place named after an ocean and my god it was awful, then tried one in Chorlton opposite the Baths and was disgusting, I am still burping the taste of old smelly oil after 3 days. Royal Cod came recommended so off I went today, the place is very clean and the owner was very polite. Large haddock, chips, mushy peas, cheese and oinion pie and some Irish curry. You could tell just from the way the fist came out of the oil that this was gonna be good. The owner tried to offer me some free sauce as he had poured 2, but I refused, he then tired not to charge for the mushy peas that he fogot to add, again I refused and paid as this is his business and I give him full respect for his politeness and honesty. Got the meal home and it was still piping hot, the chips amazing just right in every way and the fish fresh and crispy... you know its good when the paper its wrapped I has virtually no oil on it. Amazon meal, well priced a s without doubt the best fish ans chips in Chorlton. Well done and thank you

This is the best chippy in Manchester by a long way, the fish and chips are always really fresh, and the Irish curry is legendary ! You can eat in off a plate at no extra charge or takeaway. The owners and staff are genuinely nice people who have a lot of regular customers, me being one of them. Fantastic value too.

Visited twice, the food is good. But both times i visited they forgot parts of our order which completely ruined our meal. We will not be visiting again.

Fairly economical but small.space inside. Three 6 seater tables, is not inviting. It would be more attractive, with smaller tables inside & outdoor seating too, under a canopy & heater.

Good hospitality and food. Very happy with the quality of the food but does tend to run out of cod early on and closes quite early for a takeaway though current life is understandably turbulent for everyone. Perhaps closing when stock is down is the best policy for them. If that's the case. Prices are competitive with "Atlantic Fish Bar" so if you're trying to cut down the cost of the meal, this is the place for chips and fish for you. Keep up the good work!

Chippy is good. Food portion size is reasonable. They are polite and deliver quality service which is nice to receive. Their curry is the best ive had up to know.

Ordered two small haddock and a portion of large chips. The portions were generous and the customer service was good. The food was nice but nothing special. The batter was light and quite crispy but let down by how thin it was. Chips were good and we're all cooked properly (nothing worse than an underdone chip). I'd eat from there again but I wouldn't be expecting anything special.

We made a takeaway order by phone for a specified time after selecting our food from their website. The order was ready and collected at the specified time and tasted fine. The problem however arose after we got home and compared the prices on the receipt and those we had previously calculated from the prices displayed in their online menu, on their own website. An additional £2.40 had been added to the bill. When we phoned back to query this, the man on the phone said he had been having trouble updating their website. No apology was made. There was no mention of a price increase when the phone order was placed, nor was there a sign displayed explaining the discrepancy in price.

This is the best local fish & chip shop. Miles better than that greasy slop they serve at Atlantic. Spotless, and the oil is always fresh. The chips are amazing when straight out of the fryer.

Chips n curry was nice, was weary at first that the chicken nuggets weren't halal but the man behind the counter reassured me and showed me packet.

Slow service, most customers there retired

Dirty. Used to use this place, until I saw the girl who works there finish a cig outside and walk in and started handling food. She put me off now forever. The baths opposite the old Chorlton leisure centre is decent. If/when she leaves I’ll start using them again.

The food was cold and the owner and workers werent excepting it and the chip were green and undercooked also the workers were trampy plus they never wash their hands IM NEVER GOING THERE AGAIN I HATED IT
