Rothiemurchus in Highland

Staff were not interested in the shop. They were rude, not to just us but previous customers. No welcome, no smile, no interaction. We bought venison and it was virtually thrown at us. The two days previous and we had visited the cafe and although the food was good we had finished our food before our drinks arrived. Would not recommend.

Many, many thanks for sharing such a lovely property with so many opportunities for travelers- walking, hiking, biking, a sauna, a snack and some shopping too. Helena, at Ravenscraig, sent us your way to see the Hairy Coo's. We wanted to be sure to see them, meet them and not chance finding them along our driving adventures. Vicky was an amazing Safari host! She genuinely cares and respects the land, the Coo's and Aviemore. We could not have imagined a better experience. Thank you!

Amazing end to our holiday in Scotland. Fast pace round the forest with regular stops to talk about the scenary and facts. Our tour lady was amazing and super friendly. Thank you!

Breathtaking walks mostly flat with views of lochs and mountains. Some ancient forest. Sublime.

This place is incredible and a real treasure. We enjoyed the Hairy Coo Safari so much. Getting to meet and feed the cows was a highlight of our trip. And our guide was fantastic. There are so many areas to explore at Rothimurchus - I could spend a month there!

Not much interaction with cows it was very wet.

We went quad biking with Lynne and had a great time. She was an excellent guide and the tracks were great. Fun for all the family- esp the teenage boys!

Magnificent park of endemic pines and birches, easy laid out route around the lake. Sublime autumn colors, pronounced pine scents.

Great place for action and adventure in the Cairngorms. My family and I did the Highland Coo Safari which was awesome. The guide was knowledgeable and friendly and we really enjoyed learning about the cows and feeding the babies.

The bird of prey hunting experience day is quite simply awesome! The love that Jonny has for the birds, and the wealth of knowledge that he imparts is mindblowing. I would recommend this day to anyone who has a love of these amazing creatures.

Great time had by all at Rothiemurchus! Little Landys and Quad Trekking, my youngest loved Little Landys, so well organised and very happy to come away with a license to drive a Landy! Activities to do while driving round and very happy to collect his stars, round up all of the Highland Cows and also find a pumpkin! He wants to go back and do the trailer part of his license now! The lady who did it (sorry can't remember her name) was great with the children keeping their attention and ensuring they had a fantastic time! My husband and eldest son enjoyed the quad trekking, even though they had to finish early as my son found it hard going but the staff were very helpful and kind to him, he had never done anything like it before so it was completely new and they were great with him. My husband said it was very well organised and a great set up. Thank you for a great time!

Good coffee expensive for good portion sizes not good for price

We had a fantastic time quad biking and visiting the Highland Coo's - it was absolutely brilliant!!! Emma and Millie are a credit to the team there and we will definitely be going back - Awesome place!!!!! 😍

Fabulous food, two visits, two different meals both excellent.

Went to their fishing experience and did not catch a single fish between 2 people for 2 hours. Did not get a single bite even for those 2 hours. Even more disappointing is that their "Head of Visitor Services" and main customer service does not reply to email feedback even though they sent an auto email asking for feedback. Leaving this review is a last resort to get any sort of response. Extremely disappointed by their lack of customer service on top of the lackluster fishing "experience". And it was expensive too!

Another amazing trip to Aviemore. We stayed at Rothiemurchus Estate, Achnahatnich House, which was super comfy and stylish. We enjoyed the hot box sauna, the contrast from going into the hot sauna then into Loch An Eilein was quite exhilarating. Horse riding; the horse that I had was called Hal, he was a super star. Axe throwing; our instructor, Andy was an excellent teacher, super fun and helpful and quad biking with Jamie who took great pics and shared lots of info about the area. We'll definitely be back!

After a year of hustle and bustle, it was great to come to the quiet seclusion of the black grosse cabin and just relax and listen to nature. Very calming and soothing. Cabin was clean and very well kept! Definitely recommend to everyone.

Did ATV tour, was absolutely stunning scenery and you get to see cows/coos up close. Lynn was a great guide

We went to visit the Highland cows, which were adorable. There was plenty of time given to allow everyone to feed them before moving on. The staff were brilliant and very knowledgeable. All together a very enjoyable couple of hours

Good farm store, fresh local meats and dairy. Black pudding is the best I've ever eaten!

This Safari was a bucket list dream come true for me. Our ranger Christina was amazing! I cannot recommend this highly enough. Such an experience. We were given so much information and lots of interaction with the resident coos. Thank you so much to the estate for sharing all of this with us.

We did axe throwing at Rothiemurchus. The perfect activity for a family with teenagers! Our guide was very clear with instructions and safety and we all had plenty of turns at throwing. There were two sizes of axes to try and we also had a competition at the end. Great fun and we will definitely be back!

great cafe and shop selling produce from the farm and further afield. dozens of activities for outdoor enthusiasts across the estate, such a beautiful place to enjoy nature.

We did the Harry Coo Safari. It was great learning about them and being up close. Would recommend.

Myself and 2 grandsons aged 6 and 7 did the Bird of Prey Experience with Johnny. I would thoroughly recommend this. It was informative and fun, and Johnny was very engaging with everybody.

Lynn was an amazing instructor, she was clearly very experienced and helped our daughter gain confidence on the bike. She went above and beyond by taking photos and videos and we all had the best time. So much so, our son now wants a quad bike! We will definitely return. Thanks again, Donna

My 12 year old daughter enjoyed the hour long horse riding hack at Rothiemurchus. Friendly and helpful staff. Beautiful horses. We’ll definitely be back.

A brilliant experience for both my grandchildren, and myself! Johnny was very knowledgeable, and answered all the questions thrown at him, also really good with the youngsters.

My daughters had an amazing time at Rothiemurchus on their first ever pony trek. Ran by strathspey highland pony centre, The staff were incredibly knowledgeable especially Fiona and the horses were wonderfully trained and well cared for in beautiful surroundings. Would highly recommend

Loved to sauna! We were a family of 4, on holiday for the week. Booked a few days before. Loved it. Great little sauna with changing facilities and close to the loch for a few cold dips during the session. Definitely recommend and will definitely be back!!

We loved the Hairy Coo experience. It was great to interact with the all coos and our guide was so sweet.

This experience far exceeded my expectations. The sweet ranch hand who took us to see the hairy coos was so kind and informative. We were able to feed the little cows and see many of the cows up close. It was an up close and amazing experience. Definitely a highlight of our trip to Scotland.

Very beautiful place in Scotland

My wife and I had a great time. Kev and Johnny were very friendly and knowledgeable, and the birds were amazing!

We did a beginner horse trail ride, and separately, the Highland coo trek. Both were so well done! The cow trip was especially good as you get a picture of the RotieMarkus estate, which is 19,000 acres and all that goes on there. I am so glad that the Grant family opens the estate to visitors so that you can truly experience the Highlands. Lunch at the barn was perfect. It is casually served cafeteria style, which maximizes the use of your time. The Cullen skink with cheese scone was the best ever! Loch en Eileen is a must visit! It is the prettiest lake I have ever seen. Do walk all around it!

My wife and I attended the falconry display and it was excellent, the handler was extremely professional and also had a great sense of humour.

Beautiful area, you can do a lot of hiking and admire the lochs here. You pay a few pounds to park here, which is worth it, especially if you're staying longer. Loch Eileen and its ruins are definitely worth a visit.

We did Quad Trekking at the Rothiemurchus Center and had Lynn as our guide! She was great and was really informative about the area. She made sure to stop so we could take pictures and even got some action shots for us! We really enjoyed quad trekking and we think Lynn did a great job!

We booked the Highland Coo Safari and it was wonderful - you could pet and feed small Highland cows and take great pictures of them and the big cows ☺️ A great experience 👍🏼

We had the Hairy Coo (cow) Safari. Vicky was our Ranger Guide and provided an informative and fun experience with this wonderful and unique bovine breed. Very hands on, including feeding some of the orphaned babies by hand.

My husband and I recently went on an ATV tour with an incredible guide named Lynn, and it was an unforgettable experience. She made sure everyone felt comfortable and safe before we started and throughout the ride. The ride itself was awesome, with beautiful views and exciting trails. The highland cows were a real treat! We would recommend this tour to anyone even to those who have never driven an ATV like ourselves.

We did the quad tour through the forest, and it was amazing! Our guide was really friendly and knowledgable, and the scenery was absolutely amazing. There was someone in our group who was a first time rider, and was slow, so we split into 2 groups so they wouldn't slow us down. I like that they cared about that so everyone was able to have a good time. We got to stop and visit with the Higland Cows, who came up to check us out....I highly recommend visiting and doing the quad tour.

I did the Hairy Coo Safari with tour guide Ollie (pretty sure that was his name, I was too excited about the cows to listen properly). It was great. He gave us a really good overview of the cows role at the farm and all the cool facts about them. We got to feed some of the babies and get close to older ones being fed higher up on the property. It was a great experience, they're beautiful animals.

This was our favorite place after already spending a week in Scotland. Denise was our guide for the Ponies and she was fantastic and helpful. You could tell she loved the Ponies and they loved her. We always felt safe and enjoyed the views while riding the ponies. Ollie was our guide for our Cow Safari, he was amazing and knowledgable about the care and history of the animals. Just like Denise, you could tell Ollie loved his job and the animals he works with. We loved everything about the activities and cannot wait to come back. This is a must for the highlands.

Top experience! Our wonderful host Daisy shared her knowledge about the birds of prey and showed a lot of respect towards the birds. We had enough time the meet the birds and free fly them. We would really recommand this great activity!

We had a wonderful experience at Rothiemurchus. Our family of six adults took advantage of the variety of experiences available. Some of us went Quad Trekking, some Clay Pigeon Shooting, and my husband and I greatly enjoyed the Birds of Prey Experience. In fact, I can say that this was a highlight of my vacation in Scotland! We had aan absolute blast with the Bird of Prey show!! If you are nearby you must visit! The love and dedication to the birds is increddible. The birds themselves are breathtaking!! We also enjoyed our clay shooting, very friendly instructor and loads of types of targets..

Had an amazing time riding in the highlands as tourists. Very friendly and very nice and well cared horses. Definitely recommend if your an experienced horse rider to book a ride :)

The only downside was one of my friends was put in front of me, I’ve been quad biking many times, they should have been with the novices behind me, so I could keep up with the other members of the group behind the leader. But great experience as always

Our 'Hairy Coo Safari' was just great! The ranger answered every question with knowledge and passion - she loves the coos :-) We enjoyed the drive to the big grazes and the interaction with the coos!

Beautiful walk around Loch, little beaches if hot enough to swim! Great toilets and gift/ ice-cream shop.

We booked for the Eagle Experience and had a brilliant time. Lots of fun with four very different birds. And a very informative bird-handler.

Fantastic food in the cafe and great walk on the Beaver Trail.

So much to do all over the estate

I visited Rothiemurchus during the last week of August 2024 with my 14 year old son, travelling up from London for a few days of fresh air. We fished, (had fly fishing lessons) we paddle boarded, we battled the rapids in a tube! We mountain biked and we also fid. quad bike safari. All booked through Rothiemurchus. In short it was absolutely perfect! Everyone so accommodating and friendly, encouraging and organised. Thank you! We will be back next Summer! Best wishes, kirsty Cocker

We had the most fantastic time at Smugglers Sauna. Our host was so friendly and made us feel very welcome. She checked on us frequently. I would definitely recommend this little gem in such a beautiful location.

Lovely walk around the Loch. About 3 miles total. Paths are in good order only a couple of little muddy areas. You can still see a bit of the former castle but it is heavily over grown now.

An unexpected visit and a very nice discovery. Top quality products from the region. A kind cashier. 👍

Our Hairy Coo Safari was perfect. The tour guide, Vicky, was very knowledgeable and had fun sharing her work with us. It was wonderful to get to feed the cows and learn about the different stages of their lives on the farm. We were even lucky and got to see a newborn calf! I highly recommend this tour to anyone looking to guarantee interaction with Hairy Coos on their Scotland trip. The farm and area are wonderful and it's worth a trip to see these beautiful creatures.

We had the most amazing time! Lynn made it easy to learn the ATV, was knowledgeable about the area, and was the perfect guide! Highly recommend this to anyone!! They were also incredibly responsive and accommodating when I booked the wrong day.

My family and I did the Falconry experience and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Being from the states this is something we would never be able to experience. Our guide was knowledgeable and made sure we knew what to expect. Highly recommend this to anyone!

We (myself, partner, friend and her 9 year old) booked the Bird of Prey Experience, and what an experience it was! It was absolutely magical to get up so close to these magnificent birds and whilst being in the beautiful surroundings of the Cairngorms. Daisy is clearly very passionate and knowledgeable about her birds, and the experience she gave us was second to none. We all took turns with various birds landing on our arms (and sometimes heads!), the 9 year old was spellbound, in fact I think we all were! I would highly recommend this experience to anyone who wants to learn more about birds of prey and get up close and personal to these fantastic creatures.

FANTASTIC DAY! We engaged in two activities: Falconry and an ATV tour. Both were outstanding. The falconry experience exceeded all expectations. We learned about the birds, witnessed first hand their varying personalities and got to fly several which was beyond fun! The ATV tour was beautiful, fun and a great way to see more of the property. Enjoyed getting up close to view a hairy coo! Highly recommend both activities.

Falconry was amazing! I booked the Bird of Prey experience for me, my husband, and our two sons (ages 6 and 8). It was one of the highlights of our trip to Scotland! Jonny was amazing with the kids. He was funny and we learned a lot. It's clear he cares deeply about the birds and conservation. Cannot recommend this enough!

Absolutely outstanding experience. Jonny and team were knowledgeable and entertaining and the owls, hawks and eagles were beautiful and very comfortable being around humans. This was a highlight of our trip to Scotland. I would recommend for kids and adults alike.

Amazing place in the world, with many different things to do. We’ve done pony rides, mountain biking and tomorrow will do fishing. The kids (both <5) have absolutely loved it too. Loch An Eileen was def the high point for me, felt my spirit was restored there!
