We were recommended this pub by our Guest house. We were not disappointed. Although from the outside it doesn't look much it is very friendly and the food was excellent. We had steak and kidney pudding each on the first night and it was so good we went back on the second night for rump steak and lasagne for the two of us. The local beer was wonderful too and at very reasonable prices. It is a very popular pub well patronised and I can quite see why. You can't judge a book by it's cover.

Hugely disappointing evening meal. The pub itself was pleasant as were the staff. The bitter was not well kept and my meal was truly awful. I opted for cod and chips and the fish was inedible. The trouble is, whoever cooked it must have known it was bad. It even looked bad so why did they serve it? Why didn’t I complain from the off, I hear you ask? Well I never do. You never know who you’re dealing with in the kitchen. It wasn’t expensive so I wasn’t going to lose sleep over it. I just won’t be going back.

Lovely pub, with both a dining bar and a separate bar for those who choose not to eat. Food is home cooked - can be a slight wait but not a problem - we sip our drinks. Family run - we live in the same road, so it's very convenient and we have been mindful of supporting them post pandemic. Not dog friendly inside, which is why we occasionally go elsewhere. In better weather dogs are allowed outside.

Amazing choice of food on the menu, which was perfectly cooked and presented piping hot. On this occasion chose the seafood platter and chilli con carne- both very good portion sizes. Pleasant ambience and friendly staff. Car park alongside.

A wonderful, real pub. Lovely landlady and staff. Friendly clientele. Went way and beyond in kindness when we were let down by a previous booking in another venue. Great real ale and lovely lamb shank dinner. Looking forward to returning to enjoy the open fire and Old Peculiar. Thank you all for a lovely time.

Stayed nearby and visited the town of March and needed to find somewhere that did gluten free and dairy free. We visited this pub having seen that they had a gluten free menu, but then found out that they only offer a roast on a Sunday. We decided to ask if they could still cater to me (a coeliac and allergic to cows milk) and they advised they could, and in fact did gluten free yorkshires and stuffing. However then realised these were not dairy free, the chef advised that her partner was gluten intolerant (I believe) and so she had a good understanding of my requirements. Not being able to have the gluten free stuffing/Yorkshire puddings due to my milk allergy I was offered more roast potatoes. When I advised I loved roast parsnips, I was offered more of those to make up for the lack of the other bits. What made the experience better, was that the chef came out and talked all of this through with us. Which really helps to reassure and reaffirm that they know about my dietary requirements and it isn’t a problem. Roast wise, I really enjoyed it. I was a little sad not having stuffing or yorkshires but the extra parsnips definitely made up for it. The food was really good value, tasted good and everybody was so friendly. Their ability to cater to coeliacs / a gluten free diet was good and I wasn’t made to feel like a bother at all.

Lovely traditional pub with great range of real ales. Good food at good prices. The only (minor) downside was that the mashed potato was a bit 'firm'. Very friendly.

A local & I decided to try out the Rose & Crown for dinner tonight since it's just a short walk from her home. It was one of the most awful meals either one of us has ever had the misfortune to be served. I ordered the battered cod with chips and peas. My friend ordered the salmon with new potatoes and vegetables. My battered cod was mostly soggy, greasy, breading. The little fish I was able to find appeared to be chopped and formed fishy mush. The peas were obviously frozen, and were undercooked. The chips also appeared to be frozen. My friend's salmon was dry and overcooked. Her comment on her peas was the same as mine. She said her potatoes were fresh, not frozen, and the best thing about her meal was the carrots. The young man who served us came over to ask how our meal was, and we told him the truth about how terrible and disappointing it was. A few minutes later, a woman who did not identify herself came to ask us the same thing, and we gave her the same answer. She did offer to make me "something else". Unfortunately, I was not willing to risk it! NO adjustment was made on our bill for the inedible food we were served. On another note, when we first arrived, we both attempted to order wine and a lager. Neither of our choices were available. That should have been our first clue that something was off.

Disappointing. 2 meats available - clearly not home-cooked. Veg were excellent - good selection and cooked well. Shame the meat let it down.

We live in the same road, so very nice to pop down occasionally. Food is good, service is friendly and it's nice to support a family run business, especially after lockdown. Haven't taken our puppy yet (dogs are permitted outside) - she's not missing out as we never feed her food from the table! My husband's criteria when we buy a house is walking distance to a pub - it's a good 2 minutes!

We visited for a lunch time meal. Quite a good menu and also had specials. The food when it arrived was excellent and though the staff were very busy as they had a private function to deal with, everything was served on time and in a very pleasant manner. The place itself is an old pub with character. If your'e about in March give it a go you won't be disappointed.
