Excellent village pub, easy access to beautiful country walls and Salcey Forest. Friendly hosts and fantastic service. Great selection of beers, fine foods and evening and weekend events. Looking forward to trying the Jazz evening next.

We arrived as a party of seven for Sunday lunch at this hidden gem of a Pub/Restaurant. We had heard good reports from friends and we found them to be true. From the genuine, warm welcome as we entered, to the really attentive service as we dined, we were in no doubt that our visit was truly valued. We were seated at a large table in a quiet alcove, which enabled our family reunion without our being disturbed, nor our disturbing others. The menu choices were good and the specials offered on the day tempted me, as I am always up for a good fish dish. The cod loins were excellent. My companions seemed equally pleased with their choices and the clean plates at the end told their own tale. Those choosing roasts were delighted to have vegetables presented separately to serve themselves. The extras we choose of cauliflower cheese and the huge pigs in blankets were totally delectable. Despite the starters and mains being so satisfying, we somehow had to squeeze in puddings, and the gentlemen in the party were delighted with the properly made apple crumble, with plenty of apple and a jug of custard each. Our only slight reservation, was that the courses took rather a long time to appear but as everything was freshly made and cooked this was perhaps not so surprising. We look forward to returning soon. Thanks to all for making my birthday meal so enjoyable.

We have been for food and drinks on a couple of evenings here in the last year so when we saw there was a New Year’s Eve event we got together with some friends and booked ourselves in. We always have a great time. Nice food, great service and so we never hesitate to come back.

Amazing pub! It’s so refreshing to go for a meal in today’s age and be met with very attentive staff, a warm reception, delicious food (thoroughly recommend the nut roast), all without having to pay through the nose. The team went out of their way to accommodate us veggies and the 9-month year old in our group, for which we are really grateful! We aren’t local but we WILL be back next time we’re visiting Northampton again.

This is an absolute gem of a pub. We went for Sunday lunch with 6 adults and 1 baby and were welcomed so warmly. The staff were friendly and attentive. The roast dinners (both vegan and meat) were amazing- tasty, great portion sizes, great price. The desserts were fresh and delicious also. Only slight negative was the lack of baby changing facilities but the bathrooms were incredibly clean so not much of an issue. Would highly recommend this pub.

Visited here for Sunday lunch. Has been off our radar but which is now under new ownership. Well this could be a real ‘find’. We had a really wonderful lunch, the food was excellent and the service perfect thanks to the lovely Kimberly. Quite a good selection of mains with the possible exception of fish. Good wine list and the mango cheesecake was to die for. Will be returning for one of their themed nights.

Just been to our village pub in hartwell (rose and crown) first time since being done up ! We had the most amazing Beef roast dinner and I have to say it was fabulous there was 4 of us and little boy in high chair we was made so welcome and we all thought the food was great quality Definitely worth a visit highly recommended Alison

We went along to GREEK NIGHT , and it was delicious ! All of the food was really tasty , and the complimentary ouzo was a treat ! We love the theme nights that the rose and crown put on and agreed that this was our favourite one so far ! Unfortunately we missed the Sunday brunch last weekend as we were away , but really hope you do another one soon ! Hmm I wonder what the next theme night will be ? Look forward to it 😀😀😀

We visited for the first time Friday night and the food was fantastic ( sea bass , veg roulade and saltimbocca ) really full of flavour and nicely presented , Also opted for deserts which again were delicious , had really friendly service from our waitress who couldn’t do enough to help and was very knowledgable about the dishes and beers , All in a great experience in a lovely atmosphere will definitely be returning very soon , thankyou all

We visited the Rose & Crown on 4th June for Sunday lunch as a group of 5. The service was brilliant and the staff were welcoming and friendly. We had 3 courses - starters, mains and desserts and everything was amazing. The scotch egg was the best scotch egg I have ever eaten - I would highly recommend having this. The calamari and the pate were also delicious. The Sunday roast was top tier! I had the beef and it was cooked to perfection. I dont normally opt for a Sunday roast when eating out but I would definitely come back here and have the roast again. For dessert, we had the chocolate brownie, the chocolate brownie sundae, the orange cheese cake and the millionaire shortbread sundae and they all went down very nicely. We also enjoyed a few cocktails. I would come back here just for the salted caramel espresso martini's alone! I left a critical review of this place. Someone replied and said I’d got it wrong. So I went back once. And twice. And this is my third re-visit. Still shocking. Dated. Nobody cares that you’ve popped in for the evening. The telly is still on with re-runs of James Martin. Commercial radio is still playing. I live in this village. And I love this village. I want a pub I can drink in 3 or 4 nights a week. And go once or twice a week with my family. In simple terms, I’d probably put £200 across the bar each week if the atmosphere was good, and the food worth eating (if being served at all). Instead, priority seems to be the 5 guys at the bar (from overhearing, they’re local, possibly tree surgeons). If priority is those guys spending £1000 a week on beer (in which there is not much profit) over folk like me who want to part with real money on decent food - the pub will go nowhere and will inevitably end up closing. I’d buy this pub without delay. The community would too. And I’m sure the owner knows this. But there’s no appetite to make this great - so just hand it over to the community and see it thrive. Don’t kill it.

This is the third time we have visited the Rose and Crown. It is a traditional pub with bar games, as well as a great restaurant. There is so much choice from traditional pub grub, build your own burger to roast dinners all cooked to order. Each time we have visited there has been very few customers we can't understand why, the food is delicious and the staff friendly and helpful.

Absolutely yummy food. The young gentleman who served us was delightful and couldn’t do enough to make our meal brill. Don’t be put off by the pub being a little tired on the decor as the food and staff definitely deliver. We will be back!!!! And as my kids will tell you I’m hard to please!!!!!!

As we live in the village, it’s great that the Rose & Crown offer a take away service, great burgers & great fish and chips ,cooked fresh whilst you wait with a nice beer.

We have been made to feel so welcome in the Rose & Crown. The roaring fire, the old beams, the history, the selection of local ale and produce. It’s all on point. You can’t buy that atmosphere. The staff really care about their jobs and you can totally feel the passion and enthusiasm. The chef is a very talented man indeed, and really brings traditional dishes to another level. The bar staff are very knowledgeable and happy to recommend drinks that they have sometimes picked to stock. I have a small amount of constructive feedback: I prefer to eat in the bar area. This is because the restaurant needs some soft furnishings so the acoustics are not so echoey. I find it too loud because of that. A few cushions on the chairs or acoustic panelling would make it more bearable. Also they sometimes serve things in bowls that need to be on plates. Like a steak once!! I was chasing it round. I understand style and presentation is important but practicality has to be underpinning any ideas. But don’t let that put you off! Probably just me being noise sensitive. We love you Rose & Crown! We have taken parents, friends of all ages, kids, and everyone has really enjoyed their meals and especially commented on the service, and portion sizes being generous. We are so grateful having such a lovely pub and restaurant within stumbling distance. The pub garden overlooks acres of gorgeous countryside, and a clear night brings beautiful constellations to life. The staff are also very community minded and get involved with community events like Halloween, Christmas, and also have free desserts on Fridays, and steak night Weds, with cheese and port later on, and sometimes quiz night and meat raffles.

after a walk in the nearby Salcey Forest we had worked up an appetite and decided to find a local pub. What a little gem of a village pub. The Sunday roast beef was absolutely spot on and delicious with plenty of veg. the bread and butter pudding as a dessert was also cracking .a place well worth a visit and I would recommend giving those big chain pubs a miss and head here for Sunday lunch.

Me and the wife have lived in hartwell for four years and only been to the pub a handful of times but after having a night to ourselves decided to try our local for food and was amazed at the quality of the food. This really is a hidden gem for food we had starters, Camembert which was lush plus a little side of squid and chorizo on toast which was just as good. Then on to mains now we love our steaks and have eaten at many top steak restaurants and this is on par if not better then some. Cooked to perfection and was just delicious and presented beautifully. The deserts was just as good. Put the food with the pleasant staff and a great night was had would highly recommend and will definitely be visiting again soon.

What a great little find. Had the most amazing burger today prepared by Louis. Every mouthful was a taste sensation and didn't disappoint. Build your own burger! What a great idea, chose my bread, filling, type of fries, sauce and toppings! Bar staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. A shame the price of a pint is a bit on the high side. Would highly recommend this place for anyone who fancies some reasonably priced freshly prepared and tasty food. Many thanks to head chef Matt and his team I will be back. 

Having recently moved to the village we have tried here a couple of times. It is superb and highly recommend to anyone wanting good food, well priced with a very good atmosphere. We are very lucky to have this so close.

In the 16 years I have lived in the village next door to Hartwell I have never set foot in the Rose & Crown. Tonight we fancied eating out so we went for steak night.... fab! Good food, great service , polite staff , highly recommend.... will be going again apparently Sunday roast is good so will be testing it out.

We (group of friends) we're booked in for a meal at one of their other pubs but due to an unexpected issue they offered to move us here which we accepted.

The pub has recently reopened its newly refurbished restaurant under new management. The menu offerings are fantastic, particularly for those who, like me, have severe allergies (Gluten, Dairy, Onion and Garlic). The Chef was happy to adapt anything I chose from the menu to cater for my needs, reassuring me that everything is freshly prepared and every effort is taken to avoid any sort of cross contamination. The restaurant also caters for vegetarians and vegans, offers excellent value for money and a charming, family friendly atmosphere. After many years without a decent restaurant, the local villagers are really keen to support this new venture, which speaks volumes. My family and I will be returning at every opportunity!

This pub has recently reopened its restaurant and serving traditional pub grub. What we had was ok, it tasted fine and wasnt overly expensive but we raised a couple of points that the chef would do well to heed if they want repeat custom.

This was our first visit to the Rose and Crown for over ten years. It had really gone to the dogs back then. The pub itself has changed remarkably little, but the restaurant area and the food on offer is a great improvement. Gone are the nicotine beige walls; it’s now much more bright and airy.

We went there yesterday evening. My first time. We had the three-course meal. Plenty of choice. Lovely meal cooked and presented to perfection. Lovely surroundings and friendly staff. Beer was good too. Hope to go again soon.

We used to live in Hartwell and used to go to the pub a lot. We had heard that the kitchen and restaurant had been done up by the current owners and that the food/chef was good. The pub itself hasn’t changed for 20+ years and could do with a freshen up. The restaurant area is bright and quiet and away from the main bar. The food was great. Two of us had steaks (sirloin and ribeye) and one had belly pork. All cooked perfectly. The starters were good also and we finished by sharing a cheeseboard and it’s a good job we did share it. It would have fed up to 6 people. Brilliant value for money all around as the steaks start from £11 (rump). Locals and staff were friendly also as there wasn’t many that we knew from the old days. Beer was good but they could do with some proper bowl/gin glasses as gin is the in drink at the moment. We finished off with a game of darts and pool and had a lovely evening.

The four of us live in the village and have been desperate for the pub to serve good, fair priced food. It is no secret that it has been somewhat badly run for a while, but the good news is the owners appear to be taking it seriously.

Went for Saturday lunch with friends who live locally. They had heard that a big effort was being made to change the reputation of this pub restaurant, as it has suffered over the past years. Well, they did not disappoint, the menu was impressive, with a bigger than expected selection. We opted to eat from the classic menu, with a good variety of starters, mains and desserts to choose from, with discounts for choosing two or three courses.

Fabulous food, very reasonable. Highly recommend. Child friendly and staff excellent couldn't do enough for us.

The wife and I visited the Rose and Crown a few weeks ago, really excited that there is a restaurant back in Hartwell. However, there was some trepidation as past ventures have not always been great at this venue.

We booked here for a mothers day celebration as it is not too far away. Having seen their postings on our local Facebook page the range of food choices appealed to me, although they had a special menu for the special day. My selection was made before we even turned up and not one part of the meal disappointed.

i had a build a burger so did my dad.we went out for his birthday meal but we were supposed to go to somewhere in woburn. we were stuck on the m1 for hours.after around 1;45; we got fed up because we were hardly moving so we phoned up the rose and crown and got a table.at the rose and crown i saw some people from my school.it was fabulous and i loved it extreme.

Recently reopened restaurant and the team have worked hard to publicise it locally. We live in the village and looked forward to the prospect of walking out for a meal again.

Having visited the Rose and Crown twice now, I have a new favourite restaurant. The quality of the food is just out of this world. First visit I had steak and it was one of the tastiest steaks I have ever had. Second visit was for a burger and I swear I can still taste it. I’m just wondering what I will have next time. Surely the streak of amazement has to come to an end. I certainly hope not. The staff are really friendly and the atmosphere is extremely relaxed.

We went on Saturday for a meal with another couple. Service was excellent, we all had the steaks which were cooked to perfection, nice to have another local pub that does homemade food!!! Can’t wait to try the new wine selections, will definitely be back again, Sunday lunch is next on the menu.

We had just finished doing a disco yesterday, 18/2/18, and neither felt like cooking. On our way home we popped in on the off chance we could get a roast at 4.30 on a Sunday afternoon. Well, the staff were more than happy to seat us. We had the chicken and the beef followed by a sticky toffee and date pudding and the lemon roulade. OMG it was all beautifully cooked, beautifully presented and tasted divine. Will highly recommend. Well done one and all, nice to have somewhere to eat back in the village.
