Amazing food with even better service. The staff were so welcoming, extending our reservation longer so we could enjoy the atmosphere even more. The food was delicious, fresh and very tasty. I would recommend the Rose and Crown to anyone wanting a filling meal in a pub with cosy and friendly atmosphere.

We chose the Rose and Crown, as a meeting point for our extended family. We contacted Stacy a few weeks before then and reserved the separate room. On the day Stacy welcomed us as valued customers. The food was enjoyable and the portions large, the menu choices were on the small side, however I believe it is better to offer several choices to a high standard, that more choices to a mediocre standard. Stacy and her team were pleasant efficient and attentive The price of our lunch was very reasonable, and it is likely our family will meet at the Rose and Crown next year.

Having moved away from the area a few years ago, I had missed the atmosphere of this place. Having seen their new posts on Instagram about their new theme nights and the yummy looking food, 20 miles didn't seem that far. Stepping into the cozy, familiar pub, the aroma of sizzling meats and fragrant spices immediately enveloped us, hinting at the culinary delights to come. This was no ordinary local pub menu - it was Korean night! As we looked at the options, we couldn't make a decision of what to chose of the three lovely sounding dishes, both having had an early lunch and a long day we were hungry, so we ordered all 3 options to share. As we were served we jumped in to all dishes making sure the other tried what we were tasting. It was incredible, and it was beautiful! I wished we had taken photos. It really was a great evening out. Brilliant food, lovely cosy atmosphere and well looked after by the friendly staff. Excited to see more themed nights!

Hopping off the M11 before the M25 in search of a dog walk and lunch we found both in Stanstead Mountfitchet. Linnets Wood was great for the hound as was the Rose and Crown with dogs allowed in and outside. The landlady was very welcoming and the lunch menu extensive, with everything from a snack to a meal, with several gluten free options. Inevitably M chose the House Ploughman’s, I chose the veggie nachos (small). We were not disappointed the Ploughman’s was of generous proportions lovely ham, a big wedge of cheddar and Stilton with half a baguette (warm), butter and trimmings (grapes, Cornichons, beetroot, salad and pickle). M was in heaven and put this Ploughman’s in his top 3! High praise indeed. The Nachos were superb and thoroughly enjoyed, I’m glad I went small I am very full. We decided to opt for desserts always risky as M is disappointed 9 times out of 10, however couldn’t resist homemade rhubarb crumble. He loved it, a really good crumble with lots of fresh juicy rhubarb and crumble. The crumble was gluten free too but I couldn’t manage a big pud so had an affogato - delicious. With two of M’s favourites especially the dessert, rarely seen in pubs and restaurants, dog friendly and catering to my dietary requirements with friendly staff, the Rose and Crown ticked all the boxes for us and we would highly recommend it to you.

Fantastic friendly pub / restaurant. Had a lovely Sunday dinner (mixture of roasts and ribs) and both were delicious. I second the takeaway option. My friend informed me that they were on their way to collect a takeaway Sunday roast which I thought was a brilliant idea. I contacted the pub to see if they could also do a takeaway for me which was short notice but not a problem. Said roast was delivered to me by my friend and was just perfect. The pub is the perfect setting for a Sunday lunch, a cosy and traditional village pub but every now and then you just need a lazy Sunday and a takeaway roast is exactly what was needed!!

We needed a place halfway between our homes to meet lifelong friends for a catch up lunch. After googling and looking at reviews we settled on the rose and crown, stansted mount fitchet. From the moment we arrived we received great service and a wonderful welcome. All of the food on the menu is home made and cooked freshly. Portions are large and everything we had was really lovely . Eggs, skin on chips and salad, beef and ale pie, chips and peas, lasagne, chips and salad and battered fish and chips followed by lovely deserts and coffee. What was lovely was the hosts were flexible as my friends have dietary needs including gluten free and all of their needs were able to be met with absolutely no concerns. We had a great reunion made perfect by the hosts. We will definitely go back and I recommend you try them. They are a proper English pub with great home cooked food so please give them a go

I'd been travelling all week. The trains across East Anglia were all haywire, so I aborted my journey at Stansted Mountfitchet and we wanted a good proper Sunday lunch to re-establish a bit of comfort. Which is where the Rose and Crown comes in. This is a proper village pup - cosy bar, locals enjoying lunchtime pints, and a staff team who are incredibly welcoming. They're also proud of what their kitchen produces - all home-cooked roasts (pork, beef, chicken) with Yorkshire puddings, loads of veg and superb gravy. This is what Sundays should feel like. It's a lovely and unpretentious set-up that made our Sunday feel just that bit more special.

We are relatively new to the area and decided to try out a local pub for lunch. We struck gold.A very friendly young lady served us. The selection of food was excellent and the portions extremely generous. A log burning fire helped set the atmosphere. Apparently there is an extensive garden at the back so we will bring the grandchildren in the nicer weather and it is dog friendly. The downside was we were so full we couldn’t even dare look at the desert menu!

Also like the fact that they had other options on a Sunday other than roast as others I’ve been to only do Sunday roast on Sunday. We will definitely be back.

Quite busy when I arrived. Took the Indian meat Thali takeaway. I was told the goat curry was burnt so gave more of the other meat curry which was chicken. The packaging was smelling burnt while driving back. When opened the package it turned out there was no extra chicken curry but another veg option which was the chickpeas with banana slices. Awful. It was actually tasting burnt. So we had 2 boxes of burnt tasting vef curry already in the bin. Then onto the chicken curry with the Trinidadian twist, again tasteless. Srilankan daal was average tasting. The paratha was dry and rubbery. The salad had no seasoning and the raita was just yoghurt with diced cucumber and chopped mint. Again not much taste to it. Overall very very disappointing. When I was there ordering I could see they were very busy and these things do happen but after waiting 30 mins and be served below par food is totally unacceptable. Its a good attempt and the Thali menu looked great but shame it couldn't be cooked that way. Please don't serve it!! I wish you good luck.

We have rarely enjoyed a Sunday Roast more than the Rose and Crown's. The welcome was warm and friendly and we were treated as old customers even though we'd never been there before. The choice was reassuringly limited meaning that everything was freshly cooked. My roast beef, cooked exactly as I'd asked for it, was tender and melt-in-the-mouth (it also covered half a large plate). The Yorkshire Pudding - just right (I'm from Yorks so should know) and the range of veg outstanding; crisp roast potatoes, separate dishes of steamed cabbage and carrots, creamed leeks and gravy. Service was so attentive without being obtrusive and the whole experience was like having a great meal at a favourite aunts.

Came here to have a meal the night before we were going on our holiday. Ordered the Turkey curry, was really looking forward to it but we had to send it back as it was mostly just warm and cold in the middle when it came back it was a bit hotter but absolutely no flavour to it hense we didn't eat it. The place had some staffing issues and admittedly the landlady stepped in on her day off to cover to her credit but unfortunately she had been drinking during the day and was decidedly drunk!!! She made sure all the customers were aware that it was her day off and kept apologising for being drunk but she was to loud about it and swearing all the time. She even argued with a young lad there about his tab and every one there could hear what she had to say. We felt totally uncomfortable for the whole time we were there. The evening cost us about £86.00 for 4 of us with a drink what a waste of money and not a great start to our holiday! We were staying in Stortford for the weekend, so decided to try The Rose and Crown on the strength of the superb reviews on Trip Advisor. We were not disappointed! The place has the feel of a proper pub (rare these days), and the staff are very welcoming. The menu consisted of choices of turkey, lamb, beef or pork for roast dinner plus a nut roast for veggies. I chose roast pork, which was a bit of a risk as I live in Norfolk where pork is always beautiful, but I need not have worried. The pork was tender and still moist with excellent crackling. Lovely veg, roast potatoes and a huge Yorkshire pudding, plus lashings of gravy - what’s not to like. My co diners had lamb and turkey and both agreed it was excellent. The pub is also dog friendly. Another bonus. If we revisit the area, we will definitely return.

Had a very nice and warming welcome from the landlady who was very helpful and very friendly. Great food and very good portions. The battered haddock was divine and all of our 8 dishes came out of the kitchen within 2 minutes! Very impressed!

I went to The Rose And Crown with a few family friends for some simple pub grub and that's what we got. The staff were nice. Very nice way to end the weekend.

We dinned here evening before our flight and there is a welcoming atmosphere and a great choice on the menu. We had the steak and ale pie and crumble for sweat, which was perfect comfort food. The Ghost Ship beer was well kept too.

A big group of us went for Sunday lunch today and had a great afternoon. We had the “green room” which was perfect for quite a loud gathering! The roasts were well cooked and generous portions. Those who didn’t have roasts also enjoyed their meals. The service was great and we felt well looked after. Would recommend.

My husband and I decided to go out for dinner quite late on a Saturday evening. I called the pub and they were able to accommodate our late booking. On the phone the lady said that as they’d been busy some of their dishes were unavailable but was more than happy to read the remaining options to us and we were happy with the remaining choice.

Wonderful pub with great food! They were very lovely and accomodating when we experienced some difficulties getting some of our party to find the right location. Sunday lunch, drinks and dessert were all very tasty and the pub was very comfortable with a great atmosphere. Hats off to the wonderful staff who were great even though they were rushed off their feet!

Great welcome from Stacey. Made to feel like an old friend. Food amazing and hated having to leave some on the plate, but the portions were huge. White chocolate and raspberry cheesecake well worth the extra effort to finish. Thoroughly enjoyed our evening.

This is the busiest little local I have been in for years! We were leaving from Stanstead Airport the following morning and wanted an evening meal, trip advisor ratings were really good so we booked. We walked into the crowded bar area, obviously all locals. Great atmosphere. Our table was in a quiet room just the two of us. Meal was standard pub grub but chips were delicious. Great service happy staff.

We joined some friends here and called ahead with all of 5 mins notice, the lovely owner and staff accommodated us even though they had several bookings and were due to be very busy. We ordered the beef roast, the lamb roast and the steak and ale pie as a roast... the food and service was superb! The host couldn't have been more pleasant or attentive and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone passing through. We had a new-born with us and the toilets were well stocked with a baby changing area and wet wipes (lovely touch). Thank you

Love the dishes here everything is fresh and delicious. So nice to have somewhere to get a nice healthy take away breakfast/ lunch on the go or to eat in when I have a bit of extra time after my work out 🤗 Or even grabbing a healthy dinner after work when I just want a takeaway as they serve hot food till 7pm 👍 Open to non members and ample parking !! Currently loving the amazing smoothies with added protein powder after my workout for breakfast simple and easy on the go with all the nutrients and protein needed. Even the juice plan I had here for a post holiday detox was perfect. And Sandra explained and guided me through the process and how to go forward with my meal plans after. Definitely recommend this gorgeous deli and it lovely staff / service and atmosphere Note to SB : address is still showing high st and not leisure centre 🙂

This is an unusual cafe/ cum restaurant. It is on the ground-floor of a residential home and is open to the public. It also trains young people with learning disabilities to enable them to find employment in catering. There were a large number of us, from the Rotary Club in the town. We had a three course set-menu of salmon roulade, beef pie and vegetables and a giant chocolate brownie with cream. There is also a good drinks menu with good value wines and a range of beers and other drinks. The service was very good.

Today we had an amazing Sunday roast here as a family. The service was excellent from the moment we walked in. The roast beef was beautiful, and my 3 year old ate all of her child’s portion too! I would also recommend the coconut sorbet… we cannot wait to return. Thanks guys x

Used this eatery when staying at the Premier Inn Saffron Walton a couple of years ago and there were no complaints then but things have changed. When we went to get our table at 7.30pm we were told that we weren’t being rushed but we need to get our orders in before 7.40pm or we wouldn’t be able to eat anything as the kitchen closes at 8.00pm. Once seated we were then presented with both the menu and a list, equally as long, of items that weren’t available on the menu. By this time we only had 8 minutes on the clock to decide whilst cross-checking the menu! The food itself was pretty average. After the meal we went to have one more drink in the bar. Once sat down with our drinks we were quickly told it was last orders, soon after that, around 5 minutes, all guests had to leave the bar. The England game was switched off half way through, maybe not a bad thing, and the door was practically slammed behind us as we were turfed into the lobby with the remainder of our drinks. I realise this is not the staff’s fault, they are only enforcing the rules but it all felt very rushed and stressful. Other guests were clearly annoyed by this. On the whole I think the opening hours could be handled better and something needs to be done about the lack of options, whatever the reasons, it was embarrassing.
