We come to roots every week, staff are always on point! Jay always looks after us and make sure we have a table. highly recommend Roots best place in Hull.

First time at Roots and I can say I will definitely be back, the food was amazing and the service was just as good, especially Jay who made sure everything was okay and advised me on the menu as I wanted to avoid anything spicy! Will definitely be back!

Great food and atmosphere, perfect for a Saturday night. Food and drinks were very flavorful and reasonably priced, Jay also provided great service and made us feel very welcome and looked after. Highly recommend and will continue to return 😁

Had a lovely afternoon with friends on Thursday. Friendly staff, great food and good drink, all 50% off on Thursdays, highly recommended.

Not our first review. Always reliable and fun place to take friends for food and booze. Food is always beautifully cooked, on this occasion I had a slight issue with my meal and rather than trying to rectify the plate they had given me they gave me a new meal despite my pleading to make a small change, and then struck it from the final bill! They also carefully advised on the menu for my wife who has a health issue. Cannot thank the team enough for the attentive service.

We went on a Thursday evening, 2 for 1 cocktails and 50% off food was the offer of the day. Great friendly and attentive service also they did a great job advising me what to order due to a certain food intolerance I have. Food and drinks were lovely and the very chilled atmosphere made us feel very welcome and eager to go back.

One of my favourite places to eat! Their range of dishes means there’s something for everyone and it’s all delicious! The service is fast and friendly. I’ve been several times and intend to keep going back!

Great meal at Roots. Food very authentic. Atmosphere buzzing and lively. Fun relaxed environment. Jay one of the staff was very entertaining and friendly. Phil helped us through the menu and made good suggestions. The chicken fillet with arawak sauce was amazing. I added some hot pepper sauce which was wow hot but delicioussssss. We also had oxtail with rice and peas. Very authentic and tasty. Sadly no desserts or fish dishes Definitely come again!,!

Have been here a few times for food and cocktails, just popped in for a couple of drinks. I had redstripe and pina colada my wife had a mock tail colada. Cocktails are fabulous. Very nice and friendly staff.

Had food here in the daytime and it was lovely, good food, attentive servers and overall good. I also visited here on an evening for a meal, but decided to go elsewhere as the patrons were far too noisy and it felt more like a nightclub than a restaurant.

A lovely rustic Jamaican themed eatery. We couldn't fault anything, however our intention was to have curried goat but we had the Sunday lunch and it was amazing. You have to try it, even it's only a drink you want. Plenty of deals advertised on the windows, go on and give it a go 👍 Irie

Nice place for Caribbean food and cocktails, best in Hull and Yorkshire. Reggae music all day long and they even have a dj on Friday and Saturday nights and live music on first Sunday.

Awful bland food. Good vibe there but the food was tasteless and very disappointing! Would not be going back again!

I went to roots when it first opened pre covid, years ago! And going back now, it's just gotten better. Lovely atmosphere, beautiful food, presented stunningly. The atmosphere is chilled, and open to any occasion. Took my kids (17 year old twins) and it was simply perfect. Son has lamb chops, my pescetarian daughter had the shrimp, and as I eat small amounts (barbaric surgery 6 years ago) I ordered from the small bites menu and was stuffed! Highly recommended, perfect for a midweek chill out meal, or a weekend night out.

We travel 1 hour to eat here. The food and staff are amazing. Well done to all concerned 👍

Great place, the rum punch was delicious and the food was amazing. If you are near the Hull area and like Caribbean food this place is the place to go.

Took the wife and kids, it was busy night as there was a live music session on and it was Notting Hill carnival weekend . The atmosphere was lively and the vibes was good. They gave us a table upstairs away from the bar, the food was delicious and came in excellent time with plantains and rice and peas cooked to perfection. Decor was properly authentic and resembled the Carribeans style very closely. Great food and very good tentative service. Wouldn’t recommend it for very young children after 6/7pm as it becomes a rocking bar but 100% recommend a visit here for food rum and vibes

We got takeaway cocktails. They managed to make 18 cocktails in less than 15 minutes which is impressive in itself. Had a convoy of two staff members come with us to put drinks in the car and suggested their best idea of how to get them back without spilling anything. Cocktails tasted great, could definitely taste the rum, just how we like our drinks!!

Authentic Jamaican food with a great ambiance. I’m a big fan of Jamaican food and this hit the spot, meat was very well seasoned and the dish was flavourful.

The food here was amazing! My friend and I shared the Roots platter and its so much food, and all of it good.

First time here but won't be the last, very nice food cocktails are amazing. Service was excellent and atmosphere 10/10 I'll be back :)

Delicious Carribbean food, good variety of cocktails, relaxed vibe as we went in the day, I think it becomes more like a club in the evening.

The local councils environmental health department, have only awarded Roots Rum Shack and Kitchen, one star. The Kitchen, and food handling protocols, are apparently very much below par.

Small and expensive but good atmosphere

Good place, good food, good cocktails, price is decent. Get's a little mad on a weekend tea time when you are trying to eat, but theres half cut people in and out on the cocktails.

Nice vibe inside looks the part but the food is not caribbean at all cooked by a white man for a start and was not even on the bone more like out of a tin curry... And the prices are way way to high

Delicious and good value Jamaican themed bar with tasty food and great cocktail deals. I never go wrong by asking the barman for his recommendation of a tasty rum cocktail - from a classic Dark & Stormy to a quirky Dandy Sailor, they have never failed to please. The colourful surroundings have a beach rum shack feel. The food tastes of real ingredients with a kick of Carribbean heat. A seriously good place to hang out.

The fact this is called Caribbean is a joke. Food was absolutely tasteless. There was nothing good about it.

Absolutely disgusting behaviour from the owner tonight. As I approached tonight to take my 3 son's one of there girlfriend and one of there friend's witch bearing in mind is autistic (and he turned up on his motorcycle). I was some what behind them and the owner was stood out side with his dog. I witness the manager talking down to them as he thought that the motorcycle was pinched !!! Bearing in mind the lad was in his full motorcycle clothing but ran up with my 14yr old son. As I approached he started to tell me this at witch point he started to say to the lad with autism get down the alleyway and then said the same to my 18yr old son. At witch point I had to step in. Then he started to say to us all that he would take us all down the alleyway. To be honest the behaviour of this from a restaurant owner was disgusting all because they ran up with a motorcycle. If this is not judgemental then I don't know what is. This guy literally tried to pick on kids (young adults) as I don't belive he would try that with a few adults. This place needs avoiding at all costs !!!!!!!!

Excellent read some good reviews about it when we went it was better than expected nice quirky place good decor and plenty to look at . It's not the biggest place so it gets busy very quickly definitely need to book if going . The staff are very friendly and go out of their way to accommodate you quick service not the biggest choice on the menu but foods really good and hot nice portions. Plenty of cocktails to choose from they are even better than the food. There a few big tables so can get a few round them definitely going back

Always used to go here as a student, revisited it on a reunion and the cocktails did not disappoint, however, feel the prices a nearing that of London and seems a bit extortionate. 4 stars none the less though

Always beautiful food, quick and great value

Google advertises this business as open until 12 a.m. this is the first time I've ever contacted them to place an order I rang up at 10 a.m. two hours before they advertise closure, I'm guess what thet was already closed!!, What a total joke the first time a customer contacted them with their business to order food and they are closed, not a good start at all I hate it when this happens if businesses done run their operation correctly are closed early then people will go elsewhere like I am doing now first point of contact and this happens, not good enough update your website or Google page it isn't hard as customers will go elsewhere when you let them down on what you are advertising has been open

Absolutely amazing food! The flavours and quality is just sublime. I recommend the Zombie cocktail! Service is spot on. We dined outside with our dog and they brought us a bowl and actually seemed happy to be serving people which is a rarity these days.

Pretty awful food, especially if you know your Caribbean food. Service varied between pretty good and seriously dreadful. Loos not nice at all. Probably a good place to drink in, but I wouldn't eat there again.

We sat down the corridor and it was freezing... Ordered a couple of cocktails on the 2 for 1 offer and was surprised when 4 came (thought we'd literally pay for 1 and recieve 2)...nice surprise though. Wasn't a fan of one staff member walking in, smoking and swearing like a sailor to another table (obviously friends of his).
