Sadly, the Nigerian food we wanted they didnt serve. The drinks were from a big bottle and were too expensive. The meat i ate was reheated and has hurt my teeth. This place could be so much better and it will attract to way more custom!

Great food, had jollof rice with fried beef and plantain, pepper soup and Edika ikong soup with pounded yam. Great flavour food and generous portion sizes.

Visited Roots on several occasions, mainly unplanned. The approach of security can be sometimes aggressive. Also at least twice, either me or members of my group have been treated roughly and inappropriately by staff/security for sitting down, only to learn empty seats are reserved by non attendees. Apparently you have to pay a fee to reserve a seat? Potential to be a good venue if they sorted Customer Services, and accommodated adequately for visitors. It is a club/restaurant but your only allowed space if you eat?? Also extremely overpriced on bar and menu!!

We attend roots regularly, always have a good night. However tonight I am very disappointed. The bouncer managing the stairs was so rude and disrespectful and publically embarrassed us all because we had been sold the wrong colour wrist band. After paying £30 for 3 of us to go upstairs he refused to let us go upstairs forcing me to go and find a manager to speak to him. This is the worst experience we have had there and it upset us so much that we just left.

Sunday lunch. First time visitor. I wish I had taken my first instinct and walked back out. Miserable server, working man's club atmosphere, neglected chairs. Infact everything was tired. Looks like a night club thats repurposed as a food place in the day My friend and I had the same food, talpia fish soup which I enjoyed albeit extremely hot so my African friend he did not enjoy at all. The goat was aweful rock hard black either reheated or defrosted but aweful. For £60 I could have taken my friend somewhere much nicer as this was a thank you dinner. A happy server and some new menus would have made a difference, the menu was very VERY old and needed replacing. Brighten the place up a bit and some things can be forgiven. My friend who lives locally said he would never return there, I certainly will not . I was unwell for two days after I would put this to the spices.

Evie and her Mother Faith both had a craving for Nigerian food and given the lack of traditional African Cuisine we took the 50 mile drive to Hyde in Manchester for Sunday Lunch Roots has the feel of part restaurant and part night club The staff are an absolute delight , charming, chatting and very obliging My Ella and Angelo all enjoyed Jalof Rice and Beef with Planting All very good and enjoyable Evie and her Mum were less impressed with their meals of fish soup but still enjoyed it. If your want a traditional Nigerian menu this restaurant is worth a visit

Not sure exactly what this place is...a lot of things but not one definite thing, came in and there was no one to usher us in. After we ushered ourselves to a seat a waiter comes in and gives us the menu which is all damp and sticky. She’s dint even ask if we wanted drinks, then she’s comes back after 10mins asking if we want drinks and then takes our order. Also the lighting in the place is so bad, could barely see anything with the extremely dim lights. When we eventually got our food, the jollof rice was a big let down. Also couldn’t call to make a reservation cause the number on the website doesn’t work. Looked more like a club than a restaurant. I don’t have anything good to say about this place. I’ll stop here

I know Nigerians businesses don't know how to listen to their customers (which is why a lot of them up closing down) but hopefully ROOTS will take this review on board. The Asun itself is very tasty but the quantity for £6.99 is very poor. I was given 6 small pieces of goat meat in my plate for £7 yesterday !! I cook goat meat myself and I can buy a full bag of goat meat for less than £5. The amount you're charging isn't reflective in how much you're charging. The puff puff we ordered wasn't sweet enough. Lastly, the Efo riro was below average. To retain your customers please increase the quantity and quality of food we get when we visit. Nigerians want to support Roots, Non-Nigerians want to support Roots, if you're going to do something, DO IT WELL please. Roots Liverpool already closed down due to lack of customers It would be sad for the same to happen to the Manchester branch.

I'm from Poland partner from Nigeria.obvesly we both have different sort of teast..I love African kitchen..but that food was anothing what could link with African flavour...my partner was absolutely disappointed with every single dish..If for me was tasteless that I completely understand his frustration disappointment. I decided to go out for a bite to eat on a Thursday night on my own, I might also add it is only a 5 minute walk from my Hotel. I walked into what looked like a very open, clean and spacious area, there were only 5 tables occupied, so looked at the menu and decided to give the place a try. I ordered a meal of Rice, baked hake, some traditional Nigerian vegetables and coleslaw with a spicy sauce over it, oh and a Beer of course, a bottle of "Star" beer. Now while i was waiting (quite a while) there were large screens showing music and dancing all very pleasant, 2 family groups laughing and doing whatever families do when out, and I had time to read other reviews. So the first point I would make is yes indeed the meal took a while to come out, as one reviewer marked down for, but then if you want fast food then jog on to MacDonalads or KFC, the food in this restaurant is freshly cooked, which means it isn't microwaved and just shoved out, it is properly cooked and prepared. So I would not mark down anywhere base don a reasonable wait, which this was. When the food (and gobbling rods) came out, not only did it smell interesting but looked very inviting as well. Having never had this before I was looking forward to seeing just what had been recommended by the Manager there. The tastes were amazing, the Hake and rice complemented each other, the vegetable was different in a nice sort of different way, and the coleslaw fresh and crispy. There was plenty of it, in fact I left a little rice! A very nice meal and filling. It would also be fair to say that being a lone customer sat in any restaurant, as I do very often as I work away a lot, I can sometimes feel uncomfortable in some of the restaurants I go to while travelling the world, I felt comfortable, relaxed and welcome in here, even though being the only white person in there. SO I would highly recommend anyone visiting the area on business or holiday to try something special at realistic prices (My meal and beer was £15.90) so good service, good meal and all round nice place to go for a meal with a difference. I am back in Manchester in a couple of weeks and will be going back there to try some of the other Traditional Nigerian fare.

This restaurant provide Africa food and specialise more in Nigeria food. Nearly all common Nigeria food and soup is available here. Ranging from poison, amala, gari, jollof rice, bean etc. If you are in Manchester and you are tired of the white man food or you want to have a taste of home made Africa food, please visits the root. The taste is really nice and with good price. I enjoy the food and I will visits again. Almost all Nigeria drink is available ranging from Chapman to Nigeria brewery products. This place will make you feal like you are in Africa heaven.
