Roots Restaurant in Surrey Heath

We have visited Roots on a regular basis since we moved to Horsell three and a half years ago. We have always had excellent food and service, so we were sorry to discover that they are closing due to a huge increase in rates. We shall miss our visits and the delicious food.

A small group of 18 of us arrived at a lovely restaurant near Chobham. Roots Restaurant, Station Road, Chobham, Woking, Surrey GU24 8AR We were there to celebrate a friend's birthday, a surprise to her, so we turned up about 15 minutes before the birthday girl. One of the table areas had been rearranged to accommodate the party in an open square which was a lovely way for everyone to see each other and be able to talk. Before the Birthday girl arrived for her surprise we were given drinks and had time to say hello to old friends. It's a nice brick-built restaurant that reminds me of an Italian restaurant, which it is. The restaurant is warm and welcoming with Nico, Diago and their staff all working hard to ensure our night would be fun and a success. When Birthday Girl arrived it was obviously a surprise and the evening was up and running. When we sat down; our starters were very quick to arrive as we had been asked to pre-select our menu. Everyone was delighted with the starters and without doubt, there were discussions on what to order next time we visited Roots. This happened for every course. Having pre-ordered, the mains were quick to arrive once the starter plates had been removed - there was no rush. Everything arrived at the table calmly and under control. Again all the main courses were delightful. Good portions and looking and tasting as expected. Diago who was Chef that evening excelled himself doing a marvelous job of cooking, timing and getting it 'right on the night'. Throughout the meal, Nico kept a watchful eye on the glasses and ensured all were happy. The ladies received a single rose wrapped around gypsophila; a lovely touch by the host. His wife received a beautiful bouquet of mixed flowers while another guest celebrating their anniversary was also presented with a bouquet. This was all organised with Nico and Diago prior to the event and they delivered to the table right on time. Beautifully handled by Nico and his team considering the restaurant was busy in the second dining area as well. Desert followed for some. A cake with candles and two 'Flaming Fountain candles' was laid before Birthday Girl. The cake was cut and served to those who wanted more sweet deserts and four plates of cheese and biscuits were placed around the table for those who wished to partake with more delicious red wine. What a great evening; thoroughly enjoyed by one and all and it's a restaurant I will certainly return to very soon. All the food was wonderful, the wines delicious and the staff were so friendly and attentive. It's a large restaurant with room to move but, somehow manages to feel cosy, comfortable and above all friendly. The facilities were very clean. There is plenty of parking. The design and size of the restaurant lends itself to a dinner party perfectly and allows other diners to enjoy themselves without being swamped by the bigger celebratory function. A great restaurant and a must to go to. The menu is very Italian with an excellent selection. Go and see for yourselves, you will not be disappointed. Children are welcome as well Thank you Nico, Diago, Cammi and all - look forward to seeing you soon.

Thoroughly enjoyed pizzas today with salad, followed by sweets. Exceptionally high culinary standard . House wines and service very good. Spacious and comfortable restaurant. No apparent weaknesses. Good value for our menu choices

Roots is one of our favourite restaurants. The food is of a consistently high standard and the service is friendly and efficient. We visit regularly with family and friends and have never been disappointed.

We went on a Tuesday for lunch. We’d heard about the pizzas. The restaurant was not busy. Inside the temperature was a little cold but we could see the pizza wood oven was fired up. The calamari was excellent. Lovely tempura batter and light. You could taste the egg. We both had pizzas. Very authentic, good portion size, fantastic pizza base like you would get in Naples and overall well deserving of the ratings. The server was friendly the chef less so. We had a good time and would definitely go again.

Poor service, young staff that don’t have a clue. Choice of wine, Sauvignon served Pinot. Food took ages to arrive. Once it arrived it was quiet good. Chose Tiramisu for desert and we told “there’s a problem with the Tiramisu” after waiting some time so chose another option. It’s a shame as with a little more care of service and the atmosphere would be so much better. I would not recommend unless it’s a quick bite certainly not to relax and enjoy your evening. It’s child friendly.

The pizzas are the very best , and a good choice too. The sweets are of a similar standard. House red wine very sound , Service and environment great, Prices good value for items enjoyed today.

After reading the reviews - were we at the same restaurant??? Food was bland and tasteless - not sure if the chef knows how to use seasoning and herbs. Middle of lasagne was cold. Pizzas lacked topping and any flavour - it was mainly just dough. Not many tables were filled however the service was very slow - think they were short staffed. All round a very disappointing experience and we won’t be returning :(

5 stars or 4? Excellent service, great menu choices and drinks. Prices mainly very good value .Calamari a little disappointing but better than some .Other starters better. Pizzas huge and wonderful. Lasagne excellent. pastas great. Veal, chicken and sea bass highly rated but a little pricey. Coffee very good. House white wine, ginger beer enjoyable. No sweets ordered as full up. 5 stars overall I think.

Visited with husband and daughter for quick and tasty Saturday Italian supper. We were not disappointed. Calamari hot and crispy, plenty of flavourful olives , a very large homemade pizza and two pasta dishes, a couple of glasses of wine and a soft drink for very reasonable price. Service was excellent. As Chobham locals we have been coming here on and off over the years since it was Il Rustico and never had a duff meal. The name may have changed a few times but the manager Nico seems to endure and the quality of the offer too.

Four of us had a very enjoyable dinner at Roots on a Saturday night in June. The former Perla Antica serves authentic Italian food and is perfect for a quiet dinner. Between us we had pizzas, pasta and a steak, which the chef kindly prepared “tagliata ” style at my husband’s request. We shared a tiramisu and donuts with Nutella for dessert. All the dishes were delicious and the service was very good, too. Highly recommended if you love real Italian food in a relaxed environment.

Such a friendly and welcoming staff at Roots especially Diego and Nicola. The food is so fresh, delicious and presented in a mouthwatering way. The grilled fish was to die for as were the pizzas. Don't miss out on this wonderful place, Italian food at its best!

We were recommended Roots by a friend (whose husband is a chef!)and it did not disappoint. We had pizza and pasta between us, service was really good and food was excellent. My kids really fancied the puddings they had Nutella doughnuts ( freshly made) and the chocolate brownie. There was plenty of spaces for parking. Will definitely go back.

My wife and I stopped here for an impromptu lunch. The restaurant is next to Longacres florist in Mimbridge. The pasta is all home made, there are stone-fired pizzas and a selection of meat, poultry and vegetarian dishes. I had tagliatelle with Italian sausage and truffle oil and my wife had risotto. We followed this with home made panna cotta. It was all excellent and very reasonably priced. I recommend it!
