My partner and I ate here for lunch. As the Tea Room was fairly quiet, we chose a table that had a good view of Princes Street Gardens. A good start. The weather was cold, so we both chose the steak pie to blow away the cold weather blues. When the dishes arrived, the plates seemed substantial. The steak pie was in a separate dish, which seems to be the way some restaurants now serve pies. The meat in the pie was plentiful and tender. The vegetables were cold and in the case of the carrots, brick hard. The brocolli were just cold and unappetising. Disappointing end to a promising lunch.

We visited Romanes & Paterson on Sunday around mid-day, but both of us fancied the breakfasts. Though we were late for that, it was no problem for the wonderful staff. I'd visited once before but it was my husband's first meal there, and he was delighted! The breakfasts are absolutely brilliant - I had the veggie breakfast, he had the full monty version, and both were delicious. Not only is the food fabulous, but the staff are so friendly, warm and welcoming, and we managed to bag the table in the bow window, where you get a fantastic view right up Prince's Street, the monument and the castle. Definitely highly recommend a visit - you won't be disappointed.

I actually was not aware that this was a tea shop or restaurant. That must be what's on the 2nd level which I noticed but did not go to. However, the bottom floor is a huge gift shop with much better prices than all the shops on the Royal Mile. A beautiful Scotland mug on the Royal Mile was 20 pounds. I came in from walking about old town all day. The staff were very accommodating to allow me to ride the old lift up to tea room as my knees were spent and unable to climb stairs to second floor. Francesco, my waiter was charming and made the meal a perfect experience. He suggested the Blue Lady tea blend which I loved. They sell all but this specialty tea in R&P; gift shop below. Francesco told me I could purchase the tea at Cuttea Sark on Bow st/Victoria Street in Old Town. I did! I ordered a squash soup, Traditional Haggis Neeps and Tatties and Beef Stovie. The soup and Stovie was delicious. I was underwhelmed with the haggis. It was very dry and served with a tiny bit of lumpy white flavorless sauce. Could not really eat it. And I love haggis with the deep brown whiskey gravy. I finished the meal with a millionaire bar of shortbread, caramel and chocolate. This tea room was the perfect late afternoon spot for quiet reflection of my whirlwind tourist adventures that day.

Waiting in Manchester for our flight to Edinburgh, we were taking about haggis. A Scottish gentlemen sitting next to us in the aiirport cafe joined the conversation. He highly recommended the tea room at Romane's & Paterson for haggis. When we found the store, we thought hadn't gotten in right as, from the street, it seemed another tartan and souvenir establishment. We asked about haggis and were directed to the tea room. It was a delight. Grandson liked the haggis. We were all pleased with our food and loved the view of the castle. The Scottish accents from the staff and other patrons enhanced the experience. After our meal, we walked through thr store and were so pleased to find helpful, low key sales people who helped us find perfect gifts and souvenirs.

We came here twice for breakfast on the recommendation of others - and we were not disappointed. Tucked away up on the European second floor of a Scottish-specialty shop, The oatmeal was slow-cooked just like mom used to make it. We also ordered the filling Scottish breakfast which was a sampler of Scottish specialties. While my husband had the cafe latte I opted for the blue lady tea - a special mixture of the tea room that tasted absolutely delicious. We had a table by the window overlooking the Princes Gardens and the Walter Scott memorial. Even on a gloomy, wet day, the view would lift our mood. The staff was welcoming and attentive. Met friends here for lunch and unfortunately couldn’t do the lunch justice as we had stayed the night in a hotel and had a huge breakfast. Traditional breakfasts available in different sizes ( Scots, true Scots) that will fill even the biggest of appetites. Well presented and hot when we went. Special mention to the pot of te that went with it which was both good for several cups and didn't "stew" on standing. Note that the sausage is not the familiar "banger" but a slab of fried sausage meat which though common in Scotland confused my companion.

The scone was not part of the set with dessert but the waiter was very obliging. I was skeptical about eating haggis initially. However it turned out to be pretty delicious. Still took me awhile to get used to the idea of eating haggis. The steak was a surprise as I didn't expect the meat to come in small pieces. Nevertheless, the sauce was good and went well with the pie. We barely had any room left for scone after that. Nevertheless the scone was so good that we finished everything. Although the waiter did forget to serve the scone until we reminded him, the service was still commendable. They were probably a little understaffed as the tiny room was filling up with more customers.

Booked for afternoon tea only to be told at 2pm 3/12/16 no cakes but we could have Christmas tea £16.95 This consisted of sandwiches, 1 scone & 1 large mince pie & 1 cup of coffee which was served at the start so was cold when the food arrived the bread on the sandwiches was not fresh & when we asked for more coffee we were charged extra As there was 5 in the company we paid out over £89 for a disappointing tea.

Had the misfortune to breakfast in this establishment this morning. After being shown to a table the obviously stressed staff appeared to forget about us for what seemed an eternity but was in fact 15 minutes. We alerted them to the fact that we were diners and not mannequins from the floor below ( kilt showroom ). A mumbled excuse about Angelo or someone not turning up was proffered.

Sala da te davvero graziosa, che si trova al piano superiore di un negozio di prodotti tipici scozzesi.

There is one table with an amazing window view of Princes street and the castle. They offer a big plate full of cooked breakfast. The food was nice and what we required although the service was quite slow considering the place was not busy. It took quite a while to place our order, get our drinks and food despite only 3 tables being in. It's a small place very quaint but probably better for tea and cake than a breakfast despite it being on the menu.

No ifs, no buts. Go and enjoy. Amazing Full Scottish breakfast with haggis AND black pudding, plus Scottish potato cake. Fab views of Castle and big wheel. Deserves the good reviews.

We Love this quaint Tea Room. We found it on our first visit to Scotland a few years ago and loved it enough to return on this trip. The staff is very pleasant and helpful. The tea and scones are quite delicious too. Warm and fresh with clotted cream served with your choice of tea or another beverage if you dare. The local's know how to make you feel welcome here and the view is quite nice as well.

Cheap, lovely service, amazing view (one of the best in town, could say), quite and cozy, one step from the streets but perfect for a relaxing tea time. For sure the scones are my favourite. Cherry and coconut, so delicious. Is one of my favourite places in Edinburgh but the owners should appreciate much more this treasure and improve it a little bit more. Lovely staff but some advertisment or better decoration could make this place even more perfect and famous. Just an advice from a regular costumer.

We visited the Walter Scott Tea Room above Romanes and Paterson because it was right next to our hotel. Not wanting a heavy meal we asked to share a 'Taster' menu - three small plates for £12.95 - and it was no problem. We both had the steak and ale pie and shared a raspberry crumble. All were beautiful and like homemade.

We were amazed by the scottish touch everywhere from the carpet to very own ceiling . We have a tea with some delicious cakes. The staff was very friendly. The tea room was very comfortable and we felt a bit hidden and protected from the street.

This welcoming space was across the street from our hotel. Although service was on the slower side, it was made to order and very good. The restaurant was light and clean and a perfect place for a leisurely breakfast.

In spontaneously, actually for a coffee. Ultimately eaten for lunch. Really tasty, fresh and plentiful. Very nice service! Absolutely recommended
