Absolutely fantastic food, best sea bass dish I have ever had. Very welcoming staff and great atmosphere. Will be back very very soon.

It has been a little while since I have last been here. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was excellent with a good menu to choose from. We will be back again soon

One of the best Italians in the city! Food is delicious, definitely worth the price. Visited a numerous amount of times and never left down.

My first visit but my friends had hyped it up, so I was looking forward to it. There was only us in but it did start filling up. There was only one waitress serving a full restaurant We ate off the special menu, we all got potato skins, I’ve got no complaints but they were more like fat skins. I opted for the chicken with asparagus wrapped in palma ham. I was struggling to tell if it was chicken or pork it was that tough, the asparagus was stringy & wet, the palma ham was tasteless, the veg was bang average. If I went back, I would play safe with a pasta

Came here for lunch with my six year old and my 9 month old for the first time today . The lady serving us was so friendly and accommodating to us with a pushchair and general eating out with kids ! Food was delicious and we plan on returning. Thank you !

Booked here pre theatre show. What a fabulous little find. Service was quick and attentive. Food was lovely and happy hour deal great. Would recommend anyone looking for a nice meal in Sunderland.

The food was not great. My pizza dough was uncooked but when I told the staff the waitress was nice but just took my plate away (I’d eaten around the outside and a few slices before I realised why it wouldn’t cut properly!) The manager came over and told me that the dough was cooked and it was to do with the cheese they use. Now, I’m no chef but I do know what a pizza base should be like and that the dough was uncooked. We said we were happy to pay but that it wasn’t a good pizza. They did take the pizza off the bill but it was a little strange to argue about something that was so clear. The other meals were ok but nothing to write home about.

A family celebration in an amazing little restaurant. Every plate of food was delicious and the portion sizes left us all comfortably plugged! The pollo roma is amazing and if the specials board has the lobster ravioli on ot I can't recommend highly enough. Excellent quality and good value for money.......we will be back

We’d booked a table for 6 for a first time visit before going to the nearby theatre. Absolutely loved it, ages from 5 to 56, restaurant is very smart, service is spot on and the food was excellent. Well worth paying for for a treat or special occasion.

We really loved it here. Came before a show on a busy Saturday, food came fast and hot, was all delicious and the staff were really amazing. Food is one thing but the whole place just seemed to run like clockwork. Will be back!

I booked Roma for food before going to see The Rocky Horror Show. I booked it for 15:00 but when we arrived we were 20 minutes early and they seated us straight away. We had the Gamberoni and Bruschetta to start. For the mains we had the Calzone and Arrabiatta and a portion of chips. The food was amazing and the staff are so friendly. Would definitely return and most definitely recommend.

After Theatre food We ordered a table for 9 of us after going to the Theatre Table was booked for 8pm but we got hungry so phoned and asked if we could arrive earlier. No problem ! Staff were lovely and Soon took our orders . Lovely starters 👏 me and my friend had the Garlic mushrooms 🍄 which were lovely Then we all ordered various main courses . I ordered the tagliatelle carbonara it was cooked perfect! And a decent plate full. My friend ordered a lovely chicken dish with king prawns and Vegetables she really enjoyed it . And my friend who is very picky ordered the Bolognese and she ate every bit. Would definitely come back as the staff , service and food was lovely. The best Carbonara I've had in ages it was yummy 😋

Thought i had booked a table for 2 thru booking system online...i should have realhsed because i recieved no confirmation but we turned up and asked if any tables fir 2 as we were needing pre theatre meal..fairly empty but i understand people hadnt arrived yet..we were met by a frosty reception and a straight " no we have nothing!!" In an abrupt manner..not good..we left to find a jem of an italian around corner.sorrento..they also were full later but said if we had meal and basically wanted to leave as pre theatre they would fit us in and they did this for a few people in same boat ..very good friendly inviting service and lovely food...my husbands late dad was an italian chef , always was curtious even wen having to let people down..hence we wont be returning again roma..sad to say ..we totally understood situatlon but just made to feel bad even asking..hey ho it did us a favour in the end.

Had a lunchtime Happy hour, almost £14 for srarter and main,soup was okay, but the main course Lasagne was dire, it had so much chewy cheese on it which was difficult to swallow, was really heavy going and not much meat. The staff opened the doors at the back letting the cold air in, we could smell cigarette smoke from their staff.. The food used to be good but not now, won't be returning!!..

Superb piping hot Tomato and Basil Soup, Great piping hot Lasagne with wonderful Tomato thick source. My daughter's tomato sauce pasta and onion and herb starter thingy was also superb. Very helpful staff who cleaned tables with vim and vigour after each guest. Utterly superb 10/10

Lovely food and atmosphere. We were a group of 8 and the service was efficient and friendly. Everyone was happy with their food and it all looked lovely. I would definitely recommend.

Ordered chicken Kiev chicken came out cut in half was just a normal chicken breast was not very nice was very bland and not appealing at all Told server that it was not very nice and very dry they said “it is supposed to be dry” I’ve never had a chicken Kiev that was dry, ever. Server had a bit of an attitude when I told them this

Lovely little restaurant, staff really friendly and helpful, fast service and good food. I had chicken Kiev with chips and they where beautiful, my husband had tagliatelle siciliana which was also delicious. Would highly recommend the garlic mushroom starter. Was reasonably priced. I would not recommend here, We went and i got a pizza and it was cold. They said thats how we serve.

Faboulous food, presentation was brilliant and the staff were not overbearing or intrusive would definitely recommend this place .

We have been ordering takeaway from Roma for a long time and have always loved it. The food that was delivered this evening was inedible. They’ve either replaced the mozzarella for the pizzas with a cheap terrible alternative or they ran out of mozzarella and gave us what amounted to cheese you’d get from a can you squirt - it was absolutely rank. I’ve messaged the restaurant in the hope they’ve tried to get away with one but if not, and this is now the ‘standard’, there is no way anyone can enjoy what they are offering. AVOID.

Visited mid afternoon on a Thursday and we were the only customers but the reviews on here were very positive. Had starters of Tomato Soup and Mussels&King Prawns in garlic and white wine. Plenty of mussels, a good size and still in their shells. Mains were Pollo Arrabiata and Pollo Strogonoff both with chips. All courses were delicious and washed down with very reasonably priced drinks. More couples were arriving throughout our stay. Very friendly staff and prompt service.

Sadly this restaurant didn’t live up to the review. Small restaurant with no atmosphere. As Peter Kay describes ‘the big light’ was on. I had soup to start which was nice..Hubby has meatballs which were ok but barely warm. My main was chicken arrabiatta. The chicken was raw!!! Over this was at least half a pint of generic sauce. This was returned and ‘fresh’ brought out. Husband had chicken Kiev which was a little pink inside and the breadcrumbs were falling off. My food was not charged. But be careful when eating here. Very very poor. A shame!!

What a find!! This intimate little Italian restaurant was fabulous. Have to admit we didn't find it ourselves but were taken there by locals. It is highly thought of here. Cosy interior, great family food and super value for money. We were staying at the nearby city centre Premier Inn. On our next visit in the summer we will definitely see you again.

Not sure whether there’s been a change of ownership/management but very disappointed tonight for the first time ever. Pasta dry instead of normal silky sauce. Waitress uninterested. Was exceptional now very average.

We visited Roma on Friday the 28th October. We were up in Sunderland for the weekend from St. Helens, Merseyside for a big gymnastics competition at the Beacon of Light. The four of us enjoyed a lovely meal. The tomato and chilli pasta dish that I had was delicious and my 12 year daughter's pizza was huge but she still managed to polish it off. My dad and his partner were most impressed too. The staff made the restaurant a lovely place to visit. The young, dark haired waitress (can't remember the name!) who served us was fantastic and nothing was too much trouble. She was friendly and made us feel very welcome. She's a real star. The rest of the staff were also great and I'm sure we'll be back next October when we're back in Sunderland for next year's South Tyneside Acro Cup!

My wife and I visited before heading to Sunderland Empire Theatre and enjoyed our meal. It doesn't look like much from the outside and is quite small inside but the atmosphere was really nice and the food was delicious. The portion size of spaghetti bolognese was big (which is great in my book!) and the food was very reasonably prices and really good. My only slight criticism is that there was too much garlic on the garlic bread (but hey that's personal taste).

We came here early on a busy Saturday evening. Our daughter was working in the theatre, so we had very limited time for a meal. The person taking the order had kindly advised us on booking that they would need the table back by a certain time, which was well within our reach.The staff were just great, taking our order and bringing the food really promptly, so we even had time for dessert. The food itself was really tasty - we had pasta dishes that were just excellent. Great service from all the staff - friendly and pleasant, especially the young girl serving us. Really recommend it!

We ate here today for our twins’ birthday lunch. It was fantastic! The staff were brilliant as was the food. My husband had the scallop starter, we had potato skins, bruschetta, garlic bread with tomato, pizzas and pasta. Absolutely beautiful. As soon as we arrived the lady wished our boys happy birthday and when they asked for sticky toffee pudding they came with candles and a sparkler. The staff sang happy birthday and the boys loved it! What can I say ... from food that all tasted the same (different dishes) to dusty and dated decor and arrogant staff ... I would advise to avoid at all costs. A male waiter in his late 50s (dark haired guy) speaks to members of staff with absolite disrespect and as a customer it certainly is not the thing you want to hear. That from the off put us off ... cheesy and a smarmy to customers faces but abrupt and arrogant to his colleagues!!!!! 4 of us dined in Roma and all had different pasta dishes ... but they all tasted the same... the only difference one had seafood one chicken and one veg! The decor is very very dated with nets up at the window and the restaurant was very dusty. Overall not a nice experience especially as Sunderland has so many great italian restaurants the choice is huge.... Roma isnt one of them. We wont be returning and have also advised friends of other places that are far nicer to visit.

We decided to go out for Christmas Lunch this year. We'd been here before for a birthday celebration and enjoyed it so thought we would give it a try. There was a nice atmosphere in the restaurant, food was decent and the service friendly and very good. All in all we had a very nice meal.

Myself, Daughter and her Partner spent another Christmas Day Lunch at Roma Restaurant and as always food, hospitality and atmosphere were 1st Class. Ylimaz, Anna and Martina and Yilmaz's Son gave us the warmest of welcomes and although very busy still made time for everyone and as personable as they always are. Thank You again for giving up your time on this special day and making it so memorable for us all. Oh and special thanks to the Chef for serving up such great food. See you in the New Year. Went to Roma prior to going to the theatre. The restaurant was quiet at the time we arrived, we ordered a garlic bread to share which was lovely,full of garlic.For mains my wife had lasagne and I had chicken Pepe, both piping hot and delicious.

Pre theatre meal - only booked as favourite Italian restaurant full. So pleased we did! Excellent service and amazing food. Partner had surf and turf - fillet steak king prawns and mussels. I had chicken pasta dish in tomato and chilli sauce. Large portions and so tasty. Roma is our new favourite - what a find!

Very good lunch . Starter of Potato skins for my wife and Pate for myself followed by Salmon Risotto for me and Lasagne for her. accompanied by a bottle of very nice house wine. My Risotto was excellent as was the Lasagne. If I had any criticism it would be the coffee which was a bit weak for our taste. Service was very good. We will be sure to visit again.

First time in this restaurant. The staff were lovely and understanding of my food intolerances. Every effort was made and catered for to make sure I had a meal to suit my needs. The food itself was hot, well presented and very tasty, especially the meatballs I had for a starter, I've not tasted such good ones. My husband is a non meat eater and enjoyed his meal too. This will now be a favourite place to visit when we come up to Sunderland on family visits.

Really disappointed after receiving my food and discovering that it tasted and smelt of cigarettes. I have used Roma on a weekly basis for over a year now, either in the restaurant or a home delivery and this is the fist time this has happened. I did message to ask for an explanation but my message wasn't acknowledged. I will not be eat there again, it was disgusting!

We dropped in for a meal before the theatre and had an exceptional experience. Service was quick and attentive, ambience cosy and Mediterranean, and the food was very very tasty and served in generous portions. My wife and I had the specials starters and mains off the happy hour menus and could not have enjoyed it more. Fantastic.
