I found the pies very small . Although they tasted very nice. Also I thought £9 was a bit over the top for 2 small pies and single mash and a small cup of tea

Excellent food as always. What lovely, friendly staff too. I even had a nice surprise after eating my pies and mash…the fella who owns it, I presume, gave me another pie, mash and liquor on the house. It’s the only place I use, and would definitely recommend for its quality and typical cockney warmth.

I was brought up on Robins pie and mash at their long-gone branches in East Ham and Upton Park. So I was delighted to find that the Wanstead branch opens on Sunday mornings. I was able to park and pick up a take away order ready to bring home to the Midlands. Staff were lovely and packed everything really well.

No, just no. Long gone are the days people wanted to try this stuff. It hasn’t changed or updated in years (and I don’t mean the pointless side extension). Needs new people who like foreigners working here.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. However, the pies were rather small and not very tasty , the mash was small in portion, try and very unenjoyable and the parsley liquor was not very tasty ether. The eel was quite good thought. We won't go again. It was also rather expensive.

Someone must have dropped in the salt pot in the mash and the liquor this weekend had to throw our double and single in the bin after one taste. Traveled from Romford for this and we have never had a problem before so money wasted and when husband rang up to let them know today woman said should have brought it back! Too late as it was closed anyway they have lost our custom because of her attitude not for a one off bad experience with the unhealthy amount of salt !!!!!

I know this place is great for meat pies so was very excited to try their vegan pies. I have always eaten vegan pies from G KELLY, Roman Road and they are lovely. But the vegan pies at robins just don’t match up - far too salty.

I used to come here quite frequently years ago and always loved it. Having changed my diet to a more vegan leaning type, I hadn't thought to come back. It was only when on a walk in Wanstead I went by and noticed a poster for vegan pies too. I can highly recommend both the meat or vegan pies from experience now. A great East End style gem.

I visited the Wanstead shop today with a friend and was absolutely disgusted with the treatment I received. When we entered the shop we were firstly ignored and someone who came in at least 5 minutes after us was served first. As we were finally being served an male employee said the two other employees there ‘where did they come from... the coal mines?’ referring to my friend and I and they all started laughing. I do not expect racist insults in any aspect of my life, let alone when I am a customer in a shop. In terms of the food, totally overpriced. I will never visit there again.

Having been brought up on Pie Mash at a time when there was a pie shop in the East End on 'every corner' I think I can class myself as an expert! This is one of the best. Although there are still a scattering of pie shops in London, I've found most are hit and miss. As a kid my local was one called Fortunes in Hoxton, long gone! In recent years I've found the best ones were Manzies Tower Bridge Road and Arments off Walworth Road but having discovered this branch of Robin's in Wansted, I can honestly say that this is up there with them. The liquor is exceptional!! One thing I certainly would recommend is the Salmon Mash and Liquor, something I haven't seen in any other pie shop, 1st Class!

One of the things that I miss about East London is the opportunity to get a decent pie n' mash meal - with lashings of liquor. So, whenever the opportunity presents, I head for an appropriate pie n' mash outlet. Robins at Wanstead is a particular favourite and does not usually disappoint. The traditional cutlery for pie n' mash (spoon and fork) are provided alongside the chilli vinegar. The shop has plenty of seating - in and out. Double pie and double mash with liquor now costs over £7.00 - so not quite the cheap meal it once was - but nevertheless very satisfying.

This shop on Wanstead High St. is one of my regular if infrequent places to visit when I am in the area, to satisfy a craving for Pie & Mash. The shop is rather small, it will probably seat no more than 16 people at a time, but there are tables outside for when the weather is good.As other reviewers have noted, the pies do tend to be on the small side compared to my other Pie & Mash shop of choice in Walthamstow Market. However overall the food was good quality and at a reasonable price.. Plus side is that it is possible to park in Wanstead Place which is in spitting distance of the shop if you only have time for a flying visit.

After confessing to my colleagues that I had never tried pie, mash & liquor before, they had all recommended that I hotfoot it down to Robin's.It was worth the trip as I was greeted by such friendly staff, one of which I am assuming is the owner. Everyone was so cheery on a miserable day, which truly put a smile on my face! While pie, mash & liquor is not the best (nor ground breaking) dish I have ever had, it certainly gets points for being proper comfort food on a rainy day. The mash itself is quite bland but pairs beautifully with the pie & liquor. If you haven't tried it before I would also recommend you try it from Robin's, just so that you get the most authentic one!I actually visited Robin's the next day to try their eels; again, this is something that I had not tried before. This was an interesting experience but I probably won't be rushing after it any time soon...

I grew up on this stuff and having long moved away from the area I have to rely on my visits back to 'home turf' to have it now. There's not half the pie and mash shops around now that there were when I was growing up as most of the people who like it have moved away (I can get it locally but it's disgusting). Robins' is one of the better ones still around, I've eaten at their Southend and Beckton branches and this one is just as good.If you don't know what pie and mash is it might shock you to see a thick green 'gravy' (liquor) poured over it and I guess it might take some getting used to as it did one of my friends yesterday whose face was a picture. He got up and ordered another pie though after I explained that you should turn the pie over, season with salt and pepper and liberally apply vinegar or chilli vinegar.

Last Saturday myself and my girlfriend decided to try this shop for a good wholesome fresh pie as the shop looked nice and positioned on Wanstead high street. I am not easily shocked or appalled but the standard of food being served from this shop is literally unbelievable. The pies for a start are tiny and so I ordered 3 stupidly, they contain a little amount of mince meat which really was shocking to the eyes and tasteless, we looked at each other in disbelief that this was the filling, if I didn't already have a career I would open a shop selling proper pies and put them out of business in a few weeks.....we were so put off that we couldn't eat them and gave them to the dog who picked at it. I heard Jamie Oliver visited the shop and couldn't believe they were selling pies at such a cheap price.... Well Mr. Oliver we can.... Findus crispy pancakes spring to mind except they were much tastier when served to me in school !! I remain totally baffled by this terrible culinary experience.... We will firmly stick to our own homemade pies ... cheaper, more nutritious and healthier by far.
