The Sun Tavern in City of London, Westminster

Originally booked this pub for a business meeting, super easy to book and tables were all ready when we arrived. So was a natural choice to book again for lunch with friends, good value drinks and food, great atmosphere, not too busy. Good selection of drinks too. Staff friendly.

We had a lovely time in the Sun Tavern. Our special thanks go to Rosita who was very helpful. I would highly recommend it to you all.

Great pub with a well spaced function room. The canapés were great and especially the Camembert in breadcrumbs

This is a local pub for people after work and is not suitable for families. Very loud and lots of swearing. We booked and were sat in the bar. Food took a long time to arrive and there was no ketchup or mayonnaise when we asked.

Lisa and Emma looked after us, wonderfully, even down to re-organising the tables to make it more comfortable for us. They couldn’t have done more they were chatty and enhanced the night for us.

Nice and quaint pub with a cool upstairs area. Staff was friendly and they had a very friendly and gentle dog, Leila who came over to my table for a pet. I would return any day for a pet and a pint!

We recently dined at The Sun Tavern and I have to say, what a lovely experience! We were very impressed with the beautiful, art deco building and dined in the upstairs bar. Our waitress was very attentive and the food delicious. I had a fish and chips, my husband a chilli con carne. We also shared some garlic bread and calamari, a bottle of Rioja sealed the deal! We will definitely be back!

Excellent sunday roast, nice selection also for children, Milly was a very attentive waitress, and the playlist that ran on Sunday 24th March was one of the best in London's restaurants so far.

Wife got fish & chips, really liked it. I got sausage & mash sans the onions. Loved the gravy and the sausage, the mash was heavy with chives so if you prefer more potato than chive, let them know. The atmosphere was great, felt like a pub. I'm sure that place is packed on the weekends. The fireplace upstairs was def nice. Service was a bit slow but, again, that was our entire experience in London & Paris.

Went for a veggie roast and sat upstairs - ordered and paid(!) and was then told they’d run out. I was offered other options that were all meaty and as I don’t eat meat the only other similar thing on the menu was vegetarian sausage and mash, which I chose and was AWFUL when it came. The sausages were solid and bland, and the mash lumpy. I asked for roast potatoes on the side (for free as well as the price difference between the roast and the sausage and mash wasn’t fair) and they didn’t come. I also ordered a Bloody Mary which came with a slice of lime and nothing else which is odd, I’ve never had a Bloody Mary like that before. All in all - terrible for food, but the staff were fairly nice and the atmosphere ok. Just don’t ever try to eat here.

The manager, Giulia, was so kind and so nice with drink recommendations and made the atmoshphere so chill and friendly!

Ordered the pie, and it was delicious. My wife's came up a bit cold, but the staff were very apologetic and sorted it and gave us a free desert to compensate. Prices wee reasonable by London standards.

We visited the Sun Tavern on Saturday 17th February as a party of three for food in the evening, after having a fantastic day out in London. We originally gave this pub a pretty poor review, due to the service that we received from ONE particular member of staff, that was working in the bar / restaurant area upstairs. After leaving the venue earlier than planned, feeling very upset and deflated, we decided to report the incident to the manager the following day. The reason for changing our review, is down to the actions of the management team that we spoke to, regarding the issue. Vikki the Manager of the Sun Tavern, dealt with the matter promptly and was very professional, respectful and considerate. It’s because of how this incident has been handled, that we could not allow the actions of ONE person to tarnish what was otherwise a great day out, finished off with a visit to a lovely London pub, selling good pub food and drink, coupled with a warm, friendly, vibrant and buzzy atmosphere. Thank you Vikki, for taking the time to listen and for your actions regarding the issue. We will definitely see you again in the not so distant future.

Absolutely dreadful burger, small, dry and overcooked. Crazy expensive too. Avoid. Beer was fine, and the staff were great though. Just don’t eat in here.

Appalling service here this evening.One barmaid trying to sort out miscommunication regarding a meal whilst a barman was wiping cutlery all whilst three to four people were waiting to be served.I have drunk here many times being local but this is the worsst service Ive experienced

Called in for a quick pint on my way home mid-afternoon. Place looked like it needed some tlc but might have been post-lunch mess. Paid £7 for a pint of IPA, which was tasteless - I left half of it. On the plus side, bar staff were alert and got served quick. Won't go back - plenty of other options.

Always love returning here during trips to London. Great vibe and staff are top class. Nice one

A cosy pub between Holborn and Covent Garden (closer to the latter) that doesn't get too crowded and drink prices are reasonable for the area.

As a tourist, stay away from this place. I don’t know if I’m not familiar with bar service in London, but the service here was terrible. I went in and asked the bartenders where I could sit, and they told me the area was full but I could try upstairs. I did and I asked the bartender there if I could sit anywhere. He looked at me weird and said yeah. I went to sit down and no one acknowledged me for a good 15-20 minutes. The bartender that had told me yeah had sat down and was eating food. I actually waited to see how long it would take the other bartenders to come and take my order. No one did. I finally got up and asked another bartender if I could order some food. She said yeah and took my order. They brought my fish and chips and no one checked in on me after that. The fish and chips were dry and bland. Again, I’m not sure if I’m not familiar with bar etiquette in London, but this was terrible service.

Ordered food, server then disappeared for at least 20 minutes and our meals- obviously microwaved - stood in the dumb waiter for 10 minutes. It was barely warm, server didn't rush to collect it. When I said it was cold, he just sent it back to the kitchen where they remicrowaved it. Rubbish. First and last visit

It was a very nice place we went for a couple of beers and some food and due to the rain it was not so crowded so we enjoyed it there.

We visited on a late Friday afternoon between Christmas and New year, and it wasn't too busy. Prices were relatively good compared with other pubs we visited. Drinks were fine and we got seats downstairs for the four of us . We had a pre-theatre meal upstairs and the experience was mixed. The cheeseburger, chicken burger and fish & chips were good pub grub, but the beef in the pot pie was a tough as old boots and most of it was left. When we mentioned this on the collection of the plates the waitress merely said 'that's a shame'. I would of expected some recompense, but none was forthcoming.

Great local pub, friendly staff and a good selection of drinks. We didn’t venture upstairs or eat but certainly would based on what we saw today.

The worst mulled wine ever had! I think they forgot to add the wine! It was sweet and tasted of hot squash! Staff not very helpful

Good place for a quick pint after work

On a December Friday evening in WC2, 4 of us were looking for a pub to chill in for a little while. Many pubs today are pretty soulless, but the Sun isn’t one of those. It has a great atmosphere, very friendly clientele, some great tunes playing too (and not too loud) We managed to grab 4 stools by the bar, got served by Tiernan (Sorry if I’ve spelt that wrong), a cracking guy from Ireland, really made us feel welcome, drinks were served quickly and at a good price. Now there is apparently an Irish saying “Strangers are friends you haven’t met yet”. And we ended up chatting to two Texans, who have retired to the UK and are living on a wide beamed canal boat, lovely people and we had a good chat and a laugh. Then got another round served by Liz, again great service, then it was out into the cold night air, with Tiernan saying “Happy Christmas Mick”. Absolutely fantastic experience. If you are in the area, give it a try tell them “Mick sent you”.

Staff couldn't be kinder and a fantastic variety and quality of vegetarian options. Was London only 2 weeks and ate dinner here 3 nights!

Staff were polite and helpful. Reminded me of an old fashioned boozer. Look forward to returning.

Booked this online as travelling to London for a theatre break . The table was reserved as promised . The bar man could have done with a better personality but that is a minor thing . The applewood burger and chicken club were delicious but the skin on fries seemed over cooked as too crispy for my liking .

Lovely little pub with good size portions of food and decent vegan options ( the sandwich was lovely). Staff were friendly and helpful and there was a nice atmosphere. Will visit again next time we're in London.

Came here with a friend, just on an off chance, and really enjoyed our little pit stop. The pub was actually not that busy, although it was only 3pm on a Thursday, and had a nice cosy setting. Upstairs seating available too but did not get to see that. Can recommend the loaded fries! Did not expect so much toppings but they were not stingy with it.

A recent visit here after many previous visits and once again did not disappoint. Never quiet and often with tables reserved in the main ground floor bar area the range of beers (I love a Beavertown Neck Oil!) and very friendly service. We didn’t eat on this occasion but will definitely be back!

A good place for a quiet Sunday drink and meal. I was with a friend and we had a good time. The manageress was really good. Helped with ejecting a somewhat 'vocal' patron and also with ordering food when there was a little confusion. Kudos. I'd go back, but probably just for a drink.

Amazing place, great I stumbled upon it and decided to give it a try. Nice drinks, good prices and most importantly outstanding clientele!!!!!

My 75 year old mum got severe food poisoning from the battered chicken dish. (vomiting & dihorrea) My sweet potato dish was cold-to-lukewarm inside, but the two steak pies were very good. Staff were lovely and the decor was fab. Many stars lost for mum's food poisoning.

Ordered food with three friends. My order didn't go through and I had to wait 30 mins after my friends had eaten to get my food. Server was very rude despite the mistake being made by them. Plenty of other options in the area. Choose them

Really bad service, we ordered sharable items, yet we could not get extra plates when we asked. Food was ok but nothing g special. The hard cider was fine.

A group of ten friends dropped in for a few beers after a quarterly reunion lunch, all of us being former staff or partners of former staff at Queen Mary College of the University of London. The guys and gals behind the bar could not have been more friendly and helpful. A lovely pub, highly recommended.

Always go to this nice and friendly boozer within 50 yards of Covent Garden Station ,full range of drinks available, also food ,we haven't eaten ìn here ,but it looks good .Great place to go for a pre theatre drink if meeting people ,doesn't get as crowded as other places ,and prices not as expensive.

Fantastic pub just off Covent garden. If you fancy a bite to eat or a drink go here as it's just off the usual tourist traps an a really great pub. Highly recommended.

Lovely pub in central London. Unfortunately the waitress upstairs was very rude and couldn’t really be bothered to serve us or clear the tables around us. Food was ordered and no sauces or cutlery was given. Drinks were so watery and beer was flat. Shame as could be so much better.

Where to start firstly staff , the girl working upstairs has a shocking manner and is rude , no need for that !!! Flat beer twice so either dirty lines or glasses Don’t order ploughman’s it’s dire and staff obviously think that 2 big block...

The food was fine, but most of it was cold. It did not taste as we expected, not that it was necessarily bad, but simply didn't meet expectations.

Neville and the rest of the staff are a very friendly bunch and made us feel incredibly welcome. Glad we stumbled across this place. Watch out for the hot sauce 😅

Far from the maddening crowd. Lovely quiet place in the otherwise chaotic greater Covent Garden area. And prices are most un-london like.

Traditional brown bar with good service and good ciders variety. Fish and chips was a bit of a disappointment. Seemed like a ready-to-eat portion rather freshly battered and cooked

We had two rounds of drinks on a not excessively busy Saturday afternoon, each time truly rubbish service. The first was tediously slow, not as in queue, there was none, as in the time it took to make the drinks. The staff member had evidently never poured a cask beer in their life. The Amstel came in a glass that had been used to pour half a pint of cider before they realised what they were doing - emptied, no rinse, start on the beer. The martini was pure fruit juice, no alcohol in sight, the wine was the wrong colour but I’m not sure the staff member even knew colours so I gave up trying to explain the issue. We waited for a different member of staff to appear at the bar before ordering the second round - marginally better. The wine came out pink, the Amstel was almost a pint with a normal sized head, this person also clearly never poured a cask beer and had to phone someone to ask why the pump wasn’t working - reader she wasn’t even holding the class never mind angling it, there was going to be foam. The martini had seen some alcohol this time and came with the prosecco but looked terrible with split foam and no garnish. The prime downside of this interaction was that the staff member would keep wandering off mid order to serve food and go and get people from the upstairs bar so again service took ages. Two rounds - two identical orders - two difference prices. I presume this was new summer staff but I’d be choosing somewhere else to go for a decent drink if you’re going to pay London prices.

Great location being close to Covent Garden & numerous attractions as well as Theatre District. Very good menu choice and would highly recommend the Bacon & Stilton Salad! Rest of our Group stuck with burgers but all said they were very enjoyable. Staff very good....

Wonderful place, Guinness is great, landlord is a lovely guy. We discovered it by accident as it’s off the beaten track, definitely worth a visit.

A good time was had. We wanted to say how impressed we all were at the outstanding service Caitlin provided. She worked so hard and always with a smile. This is rare these days.

Mientras la mayoría de los pub de la zona estaban atascados (principalmente gente joven) encontramos éste en muy buena zona y bastante despejado, todas las mesas estaban ocupadas pero en menos de 5 minutos ya se había desocupado una pequeña y un rato después nos cambiamos a una más grande. Yo me tomé una Güines y mi pareja una rica sidra en un vaso muy simpático con manzanitas. A la hora que fuimos, después de las 7:30 pm ya no vimos que sirvieran comida, sólo bebidas. Es un lugar muy tranquilo, los meseros son amables y se puede platicar.

Just popped in here while doing a bit of sightseeing it's a very old-fashioned London pub we loved its atmosphere and the service was great .

This is a traditional pub in a busy location but the high ceilings and expansive make it a little less cosy than some of the alternatives, but equally gives a sense of being less busy and noisy! There’s a good range of drinks available and both of the bar staff during our visit were friendly and quick with the service. Prices aren’t the cheapest but sensible for the area I guess and if you’re in a larger group it’s certainly somewhere I’d recommend.
