We took our two little granddaughters there couple of weeks ago and we had homemade steak pie and chips, gravy and peas. First time I have eaten a whole meal out, it was perfect. Our granddaughters ordered chicken nuggets and chips. The nicest nuggets we have seen anywhere. My youngest granddaughter is very picky wither her food, but she was eating non stop. I asked if they were nice, her reply in a loud voice,” they not nice Nana they are DE LIC OUS. Couldn’t ask for more than that.

We both had medium sized fish and chips/fish and salad and it was an ideal lunchtime size. Good pot of tea and thick bread and butter. Only disappointment was no pickled onions! All served with a smile! Great to sit under the outside canopy on a nice warm day, overlooking the estuary. One of the more traditional cafes along here and I like it.

One of our favourite places to eat in Southend, great location, sea views & plenty of parking in easy walking distance. We like to have fish & chips but they have plenty of other choices on the menu including vegitarian. My brother in law always has the home made steak pie. For desert you can't go far wrong with pancakes, maple syrup & ice cream. They are not licenced but are happy for to bring your own wine. Personally we prefer a lot of tea! We've always found the staff very friendly & helpful.

Went in to the riviera as my usual arches venue was not open yet.Had a full breakfast. The food had grease coming out of it into the plate and the bacon and sausage had been deep fried not grilled.Average place and won’t be back

A really unpleasant experience. Food OK but got our order wrong. It was not busy but the staff could not have been any ruder. Clearly did not want us to be there. We are never going back and will take our custom to one of the more friendly cafes nearby.

We booked the restaurant for 6.30 on 12th June for 9 people to celebrate my son’s and grandson’s birthdays. When we arrived they were shut. They had taken a phone number so no excuse for not letting us know. After taking a booking they should have honoured it anyway. Will not use them again as they ruined our evening!!!

Do this is not the most modern or the most welcoming looking but hey ho the food makes up for that. Fish chips a nice salad garnish and pot of tea less than £10. Great view and friendly helpful staff. We were served quickly and just one check to make sure everything was ok A great place highly recommended

We had a lovely vegetarian full english here today and it was gorgeous. The bubble and squeak gave it the edge over other breakfasts we have had. The staff were very friendly and the service was quick. It was very busy in Southend today but they did not rush us to leave. Very impressed. Many thanks.

If I've found the right restaurant then this one is near Southend Pier. Well, we were hungry so went for a bite to eat. Um, food was delicious. But I managed to extract EIGHT BONES from the fish we were having. The others weren't liking the findings either. The bill for the eight of us and lots of bones? £89.70. Yes, that much. Oh, do I have a few bones to pick. Literally. Tad overpriced. Miscellaneous stuff? Motorbikes roared past us for ages. Idiotic bikers. Elsewhere staff were helpful and food came within a few minutes. Come here by all means, but you won't be choking on the price, but the food. In a good way. Ish

I visited here with my friends when we wasn’t sure what we fancied to eat, the large menu catered for all of us and was glad to hear that they accepted card. We eat here often as it is one of the places that allow dogs in and supply them with water. We have always found the staff to be really friendly and pleasant, always helpful and they even remember our drink order. The added bonus is the food is really good. We have tried the Skate and Chips, Breakfast, Omelette and Lasagna and have never been disappointed. Well worth a visit

Been here a few times now and can now give an honest opinion. Not the most attractive cafe in the "Arches" but the service has always been fantastic, the food has always been excellent. Its nice to get a pot of tea for two and a jug of boiling water to add later, we had at least 5 cups between us. The portion sizes have been great and they always welcome our dog. Give it a try.

Just enjoyed a huge jacket potato for lunch at the Riviera Cafe on Southend sea front. My wife had coronation chicken filling and I had chicken and bacon mayonnaise. Massive fillings, tasty potato and really fresh salad garnish. All for £8.95 each.Just right after an appetising winter walk along the sea front and we certainly won't need anything else to eat today.

I don't often choose to visit any of the 'arches' cafes because you can get better food for a cheaper price away from the seafront but sometimes it's nice to sit at the arches and watch the world go by. if I do, I always go to Riviera. This place has good quality homemade food, good portions and good service. My favourite of all the arches cafes!.

Visited loads of times and have yet to have a bad meal.Quite a popular restaurant and very reasonable prices Furnishing are what you would expect from a seaside cafe/restaurant but the meals are very good as is the service .my son always settles for the swordfish but the normal fish and chips are excellent. Would also recommend the Sunday roast and their bacon/mushroom omelettes are 2nd to none

This is an unpretentious establishment set within a group of eateries. We were amazed how difficult it was to get this standard seaside treat (later discovered some places a little inland in Southend). The service was obliging, the food good (nice chuncky chips and well-cooked fish) and we saw a couple of enormous tiramisus being taken outside to diners. Noted that you had to bring your own wine, butt the Riviera now takes credit cards.

The Arches restaurants at Westcliff, all of them overlooking the water, are an institution and popular with locals as well as tourists. When all is said and done, they are mostly pretty similar and it's hard to choose which one when all the menus are much the same. You won't go wrong with any of them, but this is not the best of them, and some things here are pretty old-fashioned by now. Mass-produced coleslaw, , milkshakes made with decent ice cream but dreadful acidy syrups instead of fruit are not really good enough any more - and certainly not at these prices. Friendly service, but pass along the arches and you can do better.

Four of us went one evening. Two had grilled salmon, two had haddock, one fried one grilled. The salmon dishes with a baked potato and salad were excellent. But both haddock dishes were disappointing. The fried haddock flesh was hard in places. Whether the fish had been frozen and quickly defrosted I don't know. I should have said something at the time. Service was fine and the food well presented. Can't rate it more than 3 stars because of the haddock.

We went here for lunch as a family friendly staff and nice location overlooking the mouth of the Thames. It is a dog friendly cafe/restaurant which is handy. However the service was not great and the food wasn't that nice. I found a hair in my food which was revolting the omlet was lukewarm however chips were ok you can't really go wrong with chips though! Didn't eat salad as it looked unappetising will go somewhere else next time.

I'll give it four stars because of the location, overlooking the Thames Estuary on a sunny day; because we were in good company and because the service was friendly, jolly and unhurried. On the other hand the batter on both the whitebait and the calamari could have been a little thinner and the 'home made' chicken and steak pies a bit more..... well, more like homemade! Nice prawn cocktail, though. Overall, not bad, and I'll probably go again.

The first thing to say is don't be deceived by the the look from the outside, because looks are very deceiving. More important is the service received and prices. As we entered this establishment the staff were very welcoming and served us with a smile and greeted us warmly. We said that there were 7 adults and we also had a dog with us, the owner said dogs can go in. In not time at all, a table was quickly put together and the dog allowed in. Various different lunches were ordered all cooked superbly, tasted very nice and the prices very competitive. Whilst waiting for our food and as our drinks were served the waitress even got the dog a bowl of water (excellent). Will no doubt visit again when in the area.

Cheap ingredients, expensive price. At £15, this breakfast was pricey. It’s one of those places that serve up the cheap processed sausages. Even the condiments are the cheap and nasty packet version. Won’t be returning any time soon. Might do if they improve their ingredients.

Went for lunch, it was a Tuesday and while not full there were still plenty of tables occupied in the restaurant. I had the scallops, chicken and then the chocolate delice. All were very tasty and everything is always so brilliantly and delicately presented. My husband had the crab, salmon special and the deconstructed eton mess which was served in a merengue shell which looked great. We have never had bad service here, Joelle in particular is fantastic, on hearing we got married at the hotel 4 years ago made sure we got a little something special even though it wasn't our actual anniversary.
