One of the best Italian food I ever had in the UK. Highly recommend!

The staff were lovely, they always are. My crayfish was really chewy, I relayed this to the waiter who came back telling me that chef says this is how they should be.I am confident that crayfish should never be chewy. The chicken pasta with rosemary and mushrooms was salty and with an overpowering taste on rosemary. I did not bother to comment on this as I felt certain the chef would claim that is how it should be. I had an extremely upset stomach, I will spare the readers the details. We will not be returning, such a pity as our last two visits were very good.

First time there. Got a collection. It had great food and friendly and professional service. I will go back if I’m in the area again. Would recommend

It was ok. But felt rushed. Some staff worked hard, others not so. Took 10 minutes to bring over a dessert menu and we ordered something but were then asked to vacate our table and eat it in the bar area which felt cramped, cold and like a waiting room. Would not have ordered had we known this would happen. We only had 2 courses, goodness knows how they expect people to eat 3 courses in such tight time restrictions. Had it not happened we likely would have stayed on, ordered more food and wine but no. We felt ejected and overall left feeling like a cash cow rather than valued customer. Not sure we’d go back based solely on that. Food was nice but they’re clearly after covers than quality customer experience.

Delicious take away as always and speedy delivery

We had a meal this evening, all staff were great but Ash was super, very hard working and really friendly, he definitely contributed towards our fantastic experience. The food is amazing, I’d especially recommend the Antipasto sharing platter and they have a range of bruschetta that sounded delicious - we had the sausage, garlic and chilli bruschetta which was lush. Definitely recommend this genuine authentic Italian.

I went to the restaurant in Lakeside. The service was poor, the Calzones were all Raw in the middle and one person on our table had seafood pasta which made them feel unwell. Please do not spend your money here! The restaurant in Whitchurch is better, if you can’t get a booking there go elsewhere.

Beautiful food - well packaged. Hot and tasty. If I had to ‘pick’ on one thing it would be that the whitebait is huge and therefore couldn’t eat them whole as normal due to the bones which was a bit off putting. Very tasty though.

Nice food and very friendly staff. I personally enjoyed the cannelloni more than the pizza. The spinach cannelloni was really nice.

Outstanding is the only word that springs to mind for this place! The staff, the service, the food, all exceptional. We were recommended a beautiful red wine and thoroughly enjoyed the lasagne and Carbonara that we ordered. Hands down the best Italian food we've ever had the pleasure of consuming. We cannot wait for the next visit, thanks to the staff for such a lovely evening.

I had a pizza the topping was hard to find so called sea food. Otherwise everyone else was very happy with the food Pasta etc.

My friend and I had a fabulous meal here last night. The food was delicious, with massive portions (of lasagne at least). The staff couldn't have been more friendly or efficient and the atmosphere was excellent. Will be back!

My favourite restaurant in Cardiff - I find the atmosphere slightly nicer off-peak when there are less children. My favourite dish is the spaghetti aglio e olio with guanciale and chillies.

Just had a lovely Sauvignon white wine. The bruschetta with tomatoes, onions and olives was out of this world. The service was extremely friendly and helpful. Best Italian I’ve ever been ❤️

Our favourite Italian in Cardiff - actually our favourite restaurant in Cardiff! Discovered in 2020 and still go there or get pizza takeaways regularly, even though we live less close now. They cater for allergies and coeliac as well, which is a game changer! Can't believe how affordable it is (and has been over the last few years) for such good quality food. Service is amazing as well!

We recently enjoyed a meal at Pizzeria Villagio and I’d happily go back for food and recommend to others. My bruschetta starter was lovely and the pizza vegetariana was also really nice (the pizza base was perfection 👍). I like that they have Trebbiano on the wine list. The staff are welcoming and happy to chat about the food. An enjoyable meal, thank you!

¡Me gustaría empezar diciendo que nosotros como familia hemos estado usando el Villagio desde la década de 1970 y nos encanta apoyar a un negocio familiar local! Sin embargo, nuestra experiencia de este fin de semana nos dejó un poco decepcionados. Habíamos reservado para 10 de nosotros para celebrar el 76 cumpleaños de mi padre. Días antes nos habíamos dejado caer en bunting y pastel y nos aseguraron que estaríamos sentados arriba y que agregarían estos a nuestra mesa. Llegamos 10 minutos antes y nos hicieron sentir un poco incómodos sobre esto, el restaurante estaba muy ocupado y el personal claramente estresado. Lanzándome la mofeta más o menos, sin nada que usar para sujetarla a las paredes para que quedara sin usar. Nuestra mesa a las 7 pm todavía no estaba lista y luego tuvieron que pedir una mesa de 4 para mover a los que estaban esperando en su postre, de nuevo resultando incómodos. Luego esperamos 15 minutos más para que nos tomaran el pedido de bebidas, el personal siguió trayendo comida que claramente no era nuestra - el personal estaba enormemente abrumado. Las cosas finalmente se calmaron y el personal era educado, en realidad solo sentimos un poco de pena por ellos! Sentimos que el restaurante estaba casi reservado o mal administrado en la noche. La comida era excelente, sin embargo 👌🏼

Fantastic food, fantastic and knowledgeable staff and a real buzz in the restaurant. The staff are very attentive and no request is too much. One of my party required a gluten free pizza. These are very hit and miss in most restaurants but the home made base at Villagio was almost indistinguishable from a Normal one. The food was really tasty including the Arancini, the pizzas and the beef ragu. Very relaxed atmosphere, and at no point are you made to feel rushed to finish up and leave. Will return as soon as I can. Thank you.

Personal amable, atento y acogedor. El entrante de langostino real, nduja y chile era encantador, al igual que los calamares de mi esposa. Las pizzas eran como se esperaba, de nuevo más - ish y sabroso. El menú para niños está listo y los tamaños de las porciones tanto para el menú principal como para los niños son excelentes. El affogato con Amaretto y café terminó una encantadora comida familiar - obviamente los niños tenían helado menos el licor! Pizzería Villagio debería ser mucho más alto en Trip Advisor, después de haber visitado la mayoría de los restaurantes italianos en Cardiff, Villagio ahora será nuestro favorito para una comida italiana de calidad y familiar.

Portion tiny. 4 piece garlic bread was half of an 8 piece garlic bread. I could cut any ‘slice’ of bread into 4 and claim in 4 pieces of garlic bread… rubbish

Ordered a dish which didn’t state it came with cheese inside it , asked for no Parmesan In the pasta and it’s a pasta dish with cheese all the way through it. Issue when I can’t eat cheese

Dinner with family. Great pizza. Owner fitted us in as a walk-in on a very busy Thursday evening. Lovely atmosphere.

We haven’t visited here in years but took the chance for a last minute night out on a Monday. It turned out to be an excellent choice! The restaurant was absolutely packed with a lovely noisy buzz of happy clientele. The staff were working incredibly hard. We had the fish platter for two to start, a couple of really good pizzas to follow and an affogato for my husband to finish off. House wine was good as well. Pizzeria Villaggio is well worth a visit: brilliant value for money, delicious food and genuine fun. What a lovely evening!

Lovely food. Service was terrible. 6 of us went for my sons 12th bday. Had to continually ask for everything. Waited ages for drinks and food order and had to ask for both to be taken. The waiter we had was very pleasant but never checked in on us to see if everything wad OK, if we wanted more drinks, parmasan etc. Had to ask for every drink order we wanted and for the bill and then chase to pay it. Really poor. Just felt like they were bothered we were there and for us to just eat and go. Really disappointing service. Ordered 3 desserts and the two arrived after 1 had been eaten. Wouldnt go back

Fabulous local Italian been here for ages, very popular, home made food

We've been in twice for lunch, immediately the staff are warm and welcoming. There's an abundance of choices on the menu and the portions are huge. Everything is cooked fresh to order and with really fresh ingredients. We had the calzone and the dough was the best I have had in years and stuffed to the brim. The accompanying sauce was rich and tangy. The carbonara was rich and creamy. The fritto misto was full of big juicy prawns, calamari and whitebait. This is one of those places where you can just get a bowl of pasta and be full at the end. The pricing is incredibly reasonable, a family of 4 with a bottle of wine, 2 courses each and coffee all for less than £90 is almost unheard of. This has already become one of our new favourite restaurants in Cardiff.

The best pizza outside of Napoli

We have eaten here a few times. Not is the food really good and authentic Italian but the service is lovely. Staff are friendly and attentive and are particularly great with our small grandsons. Highly recommended.

Nothing was too much trouble when we asked for something slightly different than advertised on the menu. Would definitely recommend.

Really enjoyed our experience I ordered the meatballs as a starter to share with my partner with a raspberry cocktail and a mojito, for our mains my partner ordered the prawn pasta (sorry can't remember the names) but it was stunning, I don't normally like prawns but he convinced me to taste it and to my surprise not only did I enjoy the pasta and sauce but the prawns were cooked to perfection, lovely and juicy, I ordered the tagliatelle carbonara it tasted lovely but had a bit too much oil on it, the waiter apologised profusely and replaced it within minutes, unfortunately the pasta was a little undercooked and because of how lovely the chef and staff was I wasn't going to complain I just asked for it to be put in a container to take home and bless them, they didn't charge us for the mains even though his was perfect, obviously we left a nice tip and we will definitely be returning very soon. My daughter loved the carbonara that we brought home as by the time we got back the pasta had softened so all in all no complaints really cannot recommend them enough, lovely evening.

Absolutely delicious and authentic Italian food. I am often eating out in Cardiff but always refer back to this fab family run restaurant. Whenever I take guests here it is always a crowd pleaser. Don’t understand the negative reviews.

The pasta is amazing and great portions! Only downfall is half a garlic bread really dissatisfying. Inside the service can sometimes be slow and draining in the boring atmosphere: i feel the music can be a bit more lively. Also when i had a take out they dont offer paper / plastic forks. I live quite far so like to eat in the car.

Took my daughter here for a takeaway as my parents used to bring us to eat here regularly in the 80s and 90s when we lived nearby. Unfortunately, one of the pizzas was wrong and we didn't realise until we got home, however, we weren't too disappointed as they tasted as amazing as I remembered them from my childhood. Would definitely come back again when in the area and definitely recommend the food. thank you!

We came here for a birthday celebration, experience we had wasnt the best. First of all we were seated by the front door, so eveytime it opened there was a draft of cold air, and constantly people coming in collecting takeaways etc. Service was poor, the first guy who sat us down and took the drinks order was abrupt, sweating profusely and used his hands to wipe the sweat off his head, I then watched him pick up food and serve it to the tables. Calimeri was overcooked, very chewy but presentation was good in fairness. The food I ordered was not correct, it was rectified and in good time, taste was average. I love my pizza and have tried many pizza/Italian restaurants this one that was definitely not high in my list. I'm hoping this was just a one-off as other reviews seem pretty good, which is why we booked it. Service got better towards the end of the night when the waiter was switched to a younger lad (can't remember his name), who provided impeccable service, and dealt with the above mishaps professionally. We did not dispute the service charge due to the waiter at the end of the nights service. Had he not rescued our experience I would have insisted it was removed. Being a small independent business hopefully some lessons to be learnt to improve for the future.

Great service and great food yet again. Service was quick, even though they were very busy. Food arrive piping hot. I had Lasagne which was delicious. i tasted the Sword fish ravioli which was also very nice.

One of my regular haunts. Excellent and rapid service. Polite. Always bring a bottle of water ( tap ) that has been chilled , without asking. Home made fresh and simple food at a good price that arrives quickly. There's nothing not to like. Reccomended you book

my absolute favourite restaurant to go to. the food is incredible and the atmosphere is perfect. every single time i’ve been it’s been amazing. it’s a must go to !!

Delicious food. Homemade and really yummy. Used to visit regularly in the 1990s but felt it was getting a bit dated. Glad to see it brought back to life! The meatballs, Fritto misto and pizzas highly recommended. Only criticism would be the service - drinks we're slammed down with such force it was a bit scary and some organisation with the waiting staff - we were asked the same questions over and over. Despite this, we would return. Revisited with a group of friends. All still very nice. The meat in the carbonara was a bit greasy. Desserts were huge, too big too finish! Update: had some takeaway pizzas, much better than chain takeaways and a similar price. Yum!!

Lovely food and staff - love it there 😍

Absolutely loovee this place! Always the best food and such friendly staff. I’ve been served by Ashfi and he’s great- so attentive and helpful. We were also served by a new boy where it was his first day and he was also so lovely. Those two really made our experience very enjoyable. Love coming back here- never disappoints.

What about the dough balls I ordered ?

Exceedingly poor. Thought we would visit our local italian for Valentines day. Spent over an hour waiting for our Calzones. My girlfriend spotted the calzones has not been cooked properly and we had been eating raw dough. Unfortunately I had eaten most of mine as I assumed it was cheese. Both had a bad belly and ruined our night. Owner took one of the calzones off the bill. Which we did not argue as we wanted to get out of there as quick as possible. However, how shameful to know your customers ate raw dough and charge us for one of them. Not to mention the cheek of adding service charge on. We are the least cheap people ever but it is the principle. Very disappointing for our local restaurant. Thanks to the response of the owner. Good attempt at trying to save yourself there. Not even an apology. Both pizzas were raw. The second pizza we showed the crust to the waiter and it was raw as well. The wait time was way over an hour. But nice spin on the story. Tried porro over in llandaff and much better service and pizza.

Lovely place with community feel to it. Pizza was light and crisp, bursting with flavours and good size. Sticky toffee pudding was more like a piece of cake with an unusual taste.

I went here for my birthday and hired out the upstairs private room. It was great! The service was very good and the food was great. The pizzas were handmade and authentic and the pasta looked delicious.
