Rico Sabor in Medway

Turned up for our booking last night (Saturday 10th February) to find the restaurant closed down. We’d booked for a friends birthday so very disappointed to be left stood in the rain trying to find an alternative restaurant. Turn off your online booking system. Tried calling the phone number and it has been disconnected.

Closed Fri 9th Feb. They accepted the booking for Friday night. But when we arrived it was closed. What's going on. Really not impressed.

I had booked a reservation over 2 weeks in advance for a 30th birthday. When we turned up to the restaurant, it was closed. No email to tell us, no phone call, nothing. Very disappointed

Place is closed. Booked weeks in advance, received message reminding me of reservation, travelled 1.5hrs to find the place closed. No answer on any numbers, including number listed on restaurant itself. Left trying to find alternative with two disabled parents. Terrible.

Booked a table through their own website for a Friday night at 6pm. Turned up there to find the place was closed! No phone call, nothing to say they weren’t open. So we ended up eating elsewhere. Saw another couple trying the door on our way back from the other restaurant, they had booked for 7pm and found the restaurant was closed! Not cool! And definitely no way of running a business!

I must say I have expected more from this place. Such a great potential but for some reasons…. We arrived, there were only 2 other customers already dining , the staff told us that they are fully booked but we can get a table. Ordered cocktails, mojito- first they run out of passion fruit flavour, next they don’t have the strawberry flavour… the food was average . I have had a 100% better tapas in other places. They did not have meatballs which I wanted to order. They did not have asparagus which my friend wanted to order. It was quite disappointing but lucky I had good company so they got away with it. One of the staff kept going out and coming back with plastic bag, I am guessing popping out to buy stuff they run out 🙉🤷🏻‍♀️ so all in all very disappointing.

The first time I've ever walked out of a restaurant before even finishing ordering. The menu has been halved, and even then they didn't have half what remained on the menu, very very disappointed. Was completely empty other than 2 other couples and freezing cold as well. Used to be very good, however not anymore.

What can I say ? went with friends whilst we were all previous satisfied customers looking forward to a repeat experience never again. Service shocking, food average and not worth the premium prices they attempt to charge. Never going again.

Really not good food!! Large family booked table, we were told before arrival card machine not working, we would have to pay cash! No draught beer, even tho they have pumps!! Coffee not served although large coffee machine. Lots of food ordered, some ok, most really not!! Tasteless food, in small portions. When you are charging the high prices they charge, you would expect quality food. Your paying high prices for low quality food. Calamari like rubber! Garlic prawns in sauce, 6 prawns in a sort of tasteless soup (definitely not sauce!). We spent a fortune on poorly made food. Certainly never returning!!

There is nothing Spanish in this place

I went here a few years ago and it was great but unfortunately it is not anymore. Card machine did not work so cash only, the menu was limited and the online menu they made you look up on your phone did not match what they actually had, for drinks they only had one beer although they had the taps that showed others and had the glasses for them it was just Samiguel. Service was very slow, I felt a bit sorry for some of the staff as they seemed to work hard but looked defeated. The food came out and I understand with tapas it doesn’t all come together but we had a half hour wait between dishes and some were nice but others terrible. On a plus side they didn’t even get the bill correct and undercharged us.

Service was really really slow and also not very friendly. They had no printed menus so we had to scan a QR code which didn’t even have the full menu on it. The churros were awful and we had to send them back. We also heard several tables around us also complaining about similar issues.

The staff look like they didnt fit, 1 looked like she was going for a run. In a hoodie and silly trainers. The service was slow we didn't get offered more than 1 round of drinks. Although it appeared to only have 2 servers. Their card system was down which is a shame. The food was hit and miss. The pork belly was hot the callimari was freezing the bread was horrible. The tomatoes tasted off. It is a shame, the place used to be buzzing but now I wouldn't return. The menu has been ridiculously reduced, its half the size. It's just generally rubbish :(

This place is an absolute joke! One of the worst restaurant experiences! We pre booked for a large group. We arrived and was the only ones in there. They Only had san Miguel bottle available for beer. We was served flat Prosecco. That was then rectified once a member of the staff nipped out to Tesco, which they try charging £34 for a £6 bottle! No potatoes bravas or meatballs available (you knew we was coming) What we did order took 1 hour and 30mins to arrive! I Walked past the kitchen and chef who was eating a bowl chips whilst cooking! Toilets had no toilet paper or soap to wash hands. Then the chicken wings arrived!! We were served raw chicken! See picture. We asked for the bill with the removal of the chicken wings and discount for the calamity experience. Zero service, zero quality, terrible experience and dangerous! Please avoid. This place will not last long!

We’d had a table booked for weeks for NYE, on the night we arrived to be told ‘it’s cash only’ because their card machine isn’t working and they said ‘we tried to get a message to you but couldn’t’ - they have my email address and my mobile number, I received no email, no call, no voicemail, no text - there was no attempt! I didn’t have my debit card with me so couldn’t get cash out, very frustrating but after looking at the reviews we’ve had a lucky escape. Spoke to a friend who went a while back who was told the same thing. Clearly they need to change their system.

We arrived punctually only to be informed that a delivery had not arrived and most of the food selections were unavailable. A phone call or a text message earlier that morning would have been nice as, although local, we could have travelled quite a long way. Moy ver good PR! Luckily, at short notice, we were able to find a table elsewhere.

Great dog friendly tapas and spanish resteraunt. The staff were very friendly and very helpful, they were quite busy and service was a little slow, We never mind waiting for food when it's good and it was excellent, the sea food paella was particularly good. We did wait about 20mins after our main course for a waiter to bring us the dessert menu, so don't bother with desert. Would recommend as the food is very good and its dog friendly.

Longer than an hour wait for food to arrive. No heads up for the waiting time. We saw the whole group was leaving after waiting for their food lol We had to ask multiple times and we were told soon but another half an hour wait lol that was not great at all. Complained but the manager was very busy talking and giving us excuses. She was not listening at all and she was rather sounded 'it was obvious wait bcoz it was the weekend' Not apologetic but also it seemed like we must understand. Food wasn't that amazing either. They brought our food just before we were leaving. What a coincidence.

Absolutely shocking experience. Not sure where to start really. Three years ago this was a fantastic place to go. Easily the worst place I’ve ever visited in 2023. No draught larger, tiny bottles of San Miguel for £4,50, card machine only worked when they felt like it, staff so rude, staff clueless on allergies, staff slow and not interested. food arriving random times and missing items. Other tables food arriving instead of ours. Large wine for one of our group and small glass for another both charged at £8.50. Staff said the glasses were the same size. Not sure what has happened but RIP Rico Sabor. DO NOT VISIT!!!

Not sure where to begin. Was really looking forward to a good night out with friends. Friends were great and I loved the music. Table booked for half 3. Took at least half an hour for anyone to approach the table to ask for our drinks order. The tap water came with very marked glasses so we asked to have them changed. Drinks came in dribs and drabs. We asked waitress if we could order food. She said she would be 2 seconds! Some time later we called another waiter over. Waitress could be seen sitting with friends at another table! Waiter apologised and took our order. Lovely guy. Tapas came first some time later. Some was cold and chorizo was very overcooked. Paella came some time after when those eating tapas had finished! Paella was tasty but overcooked. Really we had lost patience with the whole situation but we were respectful and paid our bill and left vowing never to return. Such a shame. I agree with comment above that Rico Sabor will be no more very soon.

Very disappointing. Had a staff christmas meal here and wish we hadn't bothered. One person waiting on a party of 22. Drinks had to be ordered at table as you could not approach the bar which was difficult as a large party some drink and some don't and they could not bill everyone individually. Ok, that in mind they billed in groups of four. The food took an age to arrive after the marathon food ordering with just one waiter. The food was luke warm at best and chicken had no colour to it, yuk!! The waiter told one of the party that the only red wine was merlot and no shiraz available. Also told another of the party they didn't have a spirit but we were looking at the bottle behind the bar and a small altercation ensued! The bills were incorrectly added up and the whole experience lasted 3 hours, hideous!! I would never go back there, absolutely awful experience. The amount of money they charged for the appalling service was criminal. Save your money, better off at KFC 🍗 😤

The music is SO loud! It’s a restaurant not a nightclub, people like to socialise without having to shout. We walked in to the Macarena being blasted out - absolutely bizarre. Food below average. Staff barely know what day it is, one was wearing a fleece - we didn’t even realise he worked there. Very strange that they don’t accept card payments, can only assume what’s going on there… definitely won’t be returning.

Been here several times in the past and always had a good meal. However, it looks like the restaurant is sadly on its way out. We were advised that there were no draft beers available and also no potatoes!! Surely, given the number of staff standing around and the lack of diners, you would have thought one of them could nip out to get some. The menu has been significantly reduced since our last visit, and the quality of food was terrible. Clearly microwaved and poor ingredients. Quality of waiting was poor - we needed to go to them to ask for more drinks and we were the only diners in the whole restaurant! Sad to see this - would be surprised to see this place still open in the new year unless they make some significant changes.

I wouldn’t even warrant a rating but had to give at least 1. Where do I start? We’ve been here several times before and never ever had such a dire experience, never again will we return and having read the reviews it’s clearly gone down hill the last 6 months. To summarise: 1. Table pre booked and no mention of cash only until we arrived, was told there was a chargeable cash point a couple of doors down 2. Wasn’t initially given a drinks menu and now I know why, no draught beer or cider so was told had to have a bottle, no real issue but received a can!! 3. Waitress’ don’t seem to know what drinks they do and don’t have behind the bar when menu doesn’t have all drinks on it 4. Was told some items not available after we had made our selection not at the time of arriving so had to make other selections 5. Whilst trying to order the music was turned up really loud to the point the waitress couldn’t hear us and we couldn’t hear her so she went away to get it turned down. Loud music in a restaurant not ideal when you are trying to have conversations 6. Waited an hour with no mention from staff there were delays or even any explanation, staff just standing around doing nothing, including kitchen staff so surprised there was an extensive wait when the restaurant wasn’t full like it usually is. So when I approached the kitchen they didn’t seem to know what was going on and told me to wait 2 minutes whilst staff were somewhat trying to see what the issue was 6. Some poor young waitress came over to try and see what our concerns were, bless her, she tried but I didn’t think it was fair to have a go at her so requested to speak to the manager but she didn’t even know who she was! 7. Our original waitress came over and informed us the kitchen staff had refused to cook as there was hardly any stock so we threatened to walk out when the manager eventually came over, no apology but offered to cook the food herself and said we could have on the house but claimed the kitchen staff hadn’t refused to cook and proceeded to have a go at the waitress who told us this and she walked out! 8. Got half the food we ordered and random replacements for what wasn’t available without prior warning, other tables had also started to complain and 1 got fish replacement when she’s vegetarian! Anyway, food wasn’t of the same good quality as before so we left most of it and walked out. The manager had nothing meaningful to say, her attitude wasn’t the best, she had no idea what was going on and seemed oblivious to what was going on, even agreed with the negative feedback I gave! We will NEVER be returning

Came to Rico Sabor yesterday to celebrate our daughters birthday as we have visited here on numerous occasions in the past and it had always been a great experience, however, this time something clearly has changed. On entering at 5pm we noticed how quiet the restaurant was but had to wait for one of the staff to greet us. When we said we had booked we was met with a blank expression and asked where we would like to sit and was sat 5 people on a 4 people table, even though the restaurant was almost empty. After being seated for about 10 minutes we eventually had to ask a member of staff if we could get some drinks. One of our orders was a pornstar martini which the only member of staff behind the bar had to leave the premises to purchase 1/some of the ingredients. We ordered tapas only and had to wait quiet a while for this all to eventually come out but when it did the food was ok. On several times when we tried to order more drinks our order would be taken and then nothing would arrive so we had to keep chasing up the staff to get them, even though there was at least 3 members of staff just relaxing at the back of the restaurant chatting to themselves for most of our stay. Bearing in mind we had only ordered tapas we was there for nearly 2 hours and when we finally ordered desserts we chose 2 portions of churros to share and a coffee. We was told that they do not do coffee and the waiter mumbled some excuse that none of us could understand, something about weekend policy?!? When the churros arrived I have to say our whole table was discussed to see 2 churros snapped in half with the tiniest amount of chocolate sauce on each plate which was £8.50 each! We advised the waiter that we wasn't prepared to accept this so sent them back and did not eat or pay for them. It's such a shame as this used to be a lovely place to visit but it is clear now as to why it was nearly empty and I'm afraid we will not be returning.

I’ve eaten at Rico Sabor a few times now. The food is always really good. Always go for the Tapas, so you get to taste lots of wonderful dishes. The one thing that lets your restaurant down is the service. It’s never been great and I find it very frustrating as it shouldn’t be so bad. We go into the Rochester restaurant. You need a good manager there to keep the staff on point. It takes too long to be served, to receive your food & there is no attentiveness to the customers. The ladies on the table next to us, said “it took over an hour to get our food” we had to keep asking for service (for drinks, for taking our order, the whole thing!!). Please please please get the service sorted, as you’ll have an amazing restaurant then

I dined in here after a few months of the restaurant opening and it was great, with the card machine working. My very recent 2nd visit was very disappointing with the reduced menu and food. We also had to find a cash machine that charged as they now only take cash. The place has proper gone down hill. I won't be coming back to this place.

Surely the card machine not working is a scam - sign on the door says ‘today’ yet reviews going back months report the same. Reheated food, bad cocktails and very slow service. Will not be returning!

4 of us went here for a meal this evening. Decided to order tapas , 2of the tapas were not available and the the four we ordered was tasteless over cooked . Ordered two deserts ,cheese cake was ok the waffle was so hard you could not even get your nife through.came out hungry and it cost us nearly a hundred pounds .would never go back again .it was like no one cared about the food or service . Would of put no stars if I could of . On a plus point it is very nice in side restaurant. Such a shame. Also said that card machine was not working and we had to pay to get money out of the cash machine.

Multiple red flags! They cancelled our booking one hour after we had arrived at the restaurant, only accepting cash, terrible customer service, more staff eating than customers, numerous items on the menu not available. Overall a terrible experience.

We’ve been to Rico sabor a few times in the past and always loved it, great food and great atmosphere. On the most recent occasion this was very different, the menu has shrunk significantly with only about 8-10 tapas options. The lighting was so bright it felt like eating in a school canteen. The food we ordered didn’t all arrive, despite asking twice for the remaining dishes. On trying to pay the bill there were arguments between waiting staff and who appeared the be their manager. It took 25 mins to get the bill after asking 3 times. I hope this was a one off blip, but given the last time we came was a year prior to this months visit, I’m not so sure. Furniture etc felt a little tired.

Shocking- no mains available at 1pm saturday lunchtime , specified unable to eat peppers and the recommended dish was full of peppers and not a lot else , was told cash would be needed - when i said i had no cash I was directed...

We went for our anniversary meal. When we arrived we were told cash only and to walk and get cash out. We were shown to our table but not offered a drink..we waited 15 minutes and someone only came over when they saw I wasn’t happy. I ordered a jug of sangria which was watered down wine no other alcohol and ice and fruit. We ordered around 7 tapas which were awful…cold and the potatoes were old..not home made food. They must just warm it up in a microwave because once we ordered, the food was served in 5 minutes! Staff popping out or standing around instead of seeing to customers. Didn’t have dessert as didn’t want to be in there any longer. Not a nice experience and the food was horrid.

Went as a group of 10 - food was ok and everyone seemed to enjoy it, however only when we asked for the bill were we told that the card machine had broken that evening and we needed to give them cash - considering now how many reviews have mentioned this same issue it seems slightly suspicious that this is actually the case. How on earth a restaurant in the middle of this modern world and in the middle of the high street of Rochester they don't accept card by payments to be done only by cash. My order was not ready not even after 40mns. Not even the starters were served.

They said they only accepted cash payment. Thought it was fine. I was asked if i would like to have dessert. Right after i declined the staff served me a bill without asking. I felt odd. Then i tendered cash and the staff had no intention of giving me a change which is equivalent to to a dessert price. I now realize why they only accept cash. Food is not authentic Spanish.

Delicious tapas, beautiful stylish place, attentive waiter. Unfortunately a house suren went off and the noise was terrible for about 29 minutes; we thought the manager should have done something. Then when paying the bill, they said the card machine was down, broken or something and we had to find a shop with an ATM. No banks in the High Street. So had to pay for cash for bill. The menu (tapas) has shrunk considerably and staff are not 'on the ball', such a shame as this was a lovely tapas restaurant- I hope they make changes soon

Food selection was poor, was only offered tapas menu, so we asked for the full menu, and we choose from that as well. We ordered around 8 or 9 different tapas for the table, and two of us had a beef dish each. Quite frankly the food was awful, and I mean pretty much everything, we had had several tapas earlier in the week from a different restaurant and these were far better. We sent some of the food back as it was so poor, we also ordered a jug of Sangria, this too was rubbish, I would say they served us Tinto del verano which is a nice drink but is actually Sangria without the brandy, not what we paid for. Meal was expensive for what we got. I won't be going back to Rico Sabor again soon. I'm basing my review on the fact I lived in Spain for 7 years helping my parents out in there restaurant, so I think I know what I'm talking about.

We visited here as a party of 4, the service was slow, with staff standing around on their phones at points and laying tables when customers were waiting to order. The restaurant was not particularly busy at all and the service was not great. When the food came it was mostly ok but nothing amazing unfortunately. We had the patatas bravas (both the normal dish and the Rico sauce dish) I could tell the potatoes were cooked from frozen and have had better tasting tapas. The beef dish was chewy and felt like it was cheap cuts. We had other dishes but won't list them all as being tapas, there are quite a few. I don't like to give negative reviews but feel it is just as important so the restaurant can learn. Overall I would say it's a shame the experience wasn't better as the location is convenient and the decor is nice but the food and service need improvement.

Oh, what a disappointment, have been here before and had a wonderful time. This visit was an absolute let down. Moody , miserable staff , for seven people we ended up waiting over one and a half hours for tapas, which should have been hot...

Greeted fairly nicely upon arrival but unfortunately that was as good as it got with a very steep decline in service & quality from there onwards. Several things on the menu were unavailable which can happen, but we were not made aware of it before ordering. Draft beer was clearly available but obviously the staff couldn't be arsed to change the barrel that day. We asked for water for the table which never arrived & only when prompted towards the end of the meal did we receive it with dirty glasses. During the meal we ordered more drinks that also never arrived. Waitress half way through taking our order just went & seated another table when there was at least 6 other staff to do so. Food was under seasoned & mostly just a warm up job. Patas bravas was like munching on the end of a dirty school pencil rubber. Picanha steak was a measly three pieces of clearly rump which was like chewing on a burnt out car tire. I think the handful of young staff that were working clearly did not care as they chatted away in there 2s & 3s while playing the music so loud I thought i was at a rave. Don't give your hard earned money to this establishment if you can help it! Shocking.

We were greeted with smiles but I think that was only because we had cute babies with us but from then on I was left traumatised by my experience. I have since been diagnosed with ptsd and constantly wake up in cold sweats with flashbacks of rubbery 'steak' and warmed up day old potatoes. On the menu they offer 'picanha' which is a Brazilian style rump cap made world famous for its buttery rendered fat cap. I was excited to eat it as my wife is Brazilian and ever since being introduced to Picanha it has become my favourite cut. Tbh I didn't really expect an authentic picahna but I did at the very least expect an actual steak but to my upmost horror and disbelief I seemed to have been served with three small pieces of overdone dry beef with zero fat. It literally wasn't even a cut of steak it was just three pieces of fatless rubbery beef. This was served to me with some half raw unseasoned broccoli, my young daughter even began to cry at this offensive plate of food. After consoling her I turned to gaze on my side of 'patatas bravas' which infact to my suprise seemed to just be a small bowl of day old microwaved chunks of potato. Not a single plate of food had even a grain of salt on it but luckily we were provided with a supermarket salt shaker. Several orders didn't even arrive and the homeless waiter even had the cheek to ask us to stack and hand him our plates but I was offered not a penny of his wages. Another server even left us mid sentence whilst ordering to seat a couple who had just arrived. This was honestly the worst dining experience of my entire life, my wife has since divorced me and my daughter won't even look me in the eyes anymore. This should be considered as a war crime on the great nation of Spain and I urge people to steer well clear of this fraudulent 'tapas' resturant.

Absolute disappointed. There’s nothing indicating you couldn’t have a paella on a weekday. The menu was really disappointing as there’s nothing that was on the website menu. We ordered a drink and never received it. Then got offered a bottle of water as we ask for the bill. Have to say really disappointed as it’s a beautiful looking restaurant.

Not happy about food and services

Having waited 10 mins at the entrance to be asked what we wanted we were then reluctantly shown to a table and left to our own devices for a further 20 minutes with no apparently interested staff to flag down. A trip to the toilet...

Good atmosphere, good service, food average. No coffee and cash only.

Booked here for 30th on the 16th Aug, they never confirmed booking. We arrived, they had the booking. Just pointed to our table of 6. Didn't show it. Literally threw the menus down at us, after some time of waiting. The martini cocktails tasted of soap, the jug of over priced sangria was just juice watered down. No alcohol. Menu was limited. So we decided to not stay, asked for bill for drinks, told cash only, no signs anywhere. Although signs for card payments accepted. Obviously on a tax dodge. Refused to pay for drinks as only carry card and service deplorable. Walked out !!! Never ever go there.

We went here as a big group for a friends birthday. Food was really tasty. Tapas was a good choice as meant lots of variety. Staff were incredibly nice and attentive. Would definitely recommend.

Very unimpressive. Limited menu, food was 'ok', wine choice was poor and largely out of stock, card reader packed up so was asked to go out and get cash from a machine. Won't be revisiting.

Excellent meal of Tapas. Terrific service as we were a group of 18 - really well handled and billed in couples or singles so we didn't pay over the odds for food we didn't have. Highly recommended. It's popular and so quite noisy but very enjoyable. Deposit payable on large groups and deducted per item per bill i.e. per couple/single. Very clever.
