If you’re not in the dome then it’s just a theme experience, the food was good but not great. We thought it was a little over priced and under whelming to be honest, it is novel and the building is fabulous.

The team let us go into the dining room to put some decorations on the already lovely table, reception hid some of the presents our guests had dropped off earlier. We had drinks in the lounge whilst we selected from the menu. The service and food was excellent, nothing was too much trouble. James ensured all was well throughout the afternoon, Chef even came out to make sure we were happy with everything and have a chat. All in all a memorable lunch.

We celebrated Mothers Day at the 3pm sitting. We were very happy with all our courses except we wondered if the vegetables had been prepared for the 12 moon sitting. Clive, the chef, was off with Covid and we didn’t feel the vegetables were up to our previous experiences here. With a glass of wine each and liqueur coffees to follow with mints the bill came to £85 with tip. We had excellent service from our waitresses.

We had the Valentine dinner 3 years ago prior to Covid so we took them up on their package deal and had a really superb meal served by Lucie and Amie. We both had the same - We started with the mushrooms in a creamy sauce followed by the hake beautifully presented with mussels, new potatoes and a large dish of vegetables. We followed with a Grand Marnier cheese cake and liqueur coffee and petit fours in the lounge. A large jug of water is automatically delivered to the table with white table cloth - not so common these days. Apparently the chef, Martin, has been with them for over 30 years and every time we have eaten here the food is 5 star standard at 3 star prices. The restaurant was nicely decorated with small vases of roses and little hearts on the tables. The marketing of the restaurant needs to improve dramatically and James said he is now taken over this role. It really is a little gem and the restaurant was not full on a Saturday evening. It should be for the quality of what’s available. I had to phone a number of times for the menu and cost and the package deal for the night. Such a waste of business opportunities.

Just got home from Lysses after having a superb Valentine lunch. Food and service was amazing. Right down to the detail of special table decorations for the special occassion. Loved the heart shaped jammy dodger and heart shape chocolate petite fours. We have never had a bad meal here in the last 20 years. I was suprised though that the special valentine menu wasn't available to view online. However, it was sent via email.

We decided to have a lunch after relaxation of the Covid lockdown rules - just us two as FAREHAM is in tier 2. We were pleasantly surprised that a Christmas menu was available. We both chose the lamb, served with 3 vegetables and Christmas pudding for desert served with brandy sauce and rum butter. The rump of lamb was very tender but rather bland and James reported this to the chef who said he would taste the lamb himself and see if he could give it more flavour. Lucy, our other waiter, gave us excellent service too. What further impressed us was that when we came to pay the bill James had deducted our drinks because we were disappointed with the lamb - totally unexpected and the way to win our enthusiasm to tell our friends about the restaurant. The restaurant was beautifully decorated (by Lucy) and each table has an empty wine bottle with lights inside as well as a cracker for each of guest. Coffee is included in the lunch as well as a delicious mince pie instead of the usual mint chocolate. I usually give an “excellent” rating to the restaurant but sadly this time only a “very good”. We still feel this is the best restaurant in FAREHAM with easy parking and consistently super food.

I went for dinner with three other family members to celebrate my birthday (we did not stay in the actual hotel bit). I hadn't been out for a meal for months, given the C-19 restrictions and all, but on arriving at the venue the signage was clear and the track and trace procedure was easy to work through, and all the staff were welcoming. It was a Thursday night, very rainy, so we were only one of two groups eating in the restaurant that night; clearly, like with other venues, lockdown restrictions must have played a part. On the face of it, that might have made for a less than satisfying evening, but the great food - I had the medium serloin stake, as did my brother in law, which was tendered and served with lovely sauteed potatoes - was helped by the very personal, attentive service of the manager James, who - with few covers to cater for - was able to provide us with a very personal service. He was cheery, knowledgeable about the menu, happy to both engage our table in conversation but also to give us the space and time to eat at our leisure. He even got the kitchen staff to decorate my dessert with a birthday message, when I told him the reason for our visit. So, we gave him a generous tip which he richly deserved for putting on a great service in trying circumstances. The cutlery and table were spotless and the linens too, and the ambience was actually conducive to good conversation around the table, as there was little background noise. Apparently the restaurant was very full the previous day, so I think the quiet atmosphere just reflected the day and the weather. However, when I visit Fareham again to see my sister, I can certainly envisage coming here either for dinner or for lunch, as the quality of the food wasn't accompanied by a sky-high price (although, I wasn't paying!).

We have had superb lunches here over the past few months. This time we received excellent service from Josh and Beth who were happy and smiling behind their visors. This time we had tomato soup to start (definitely not out of a tin!) accompanied by lovely warm rolls. For main course we had chicken and asked the chef to bake the sea bass rather than pan fried (“No problem” said Beth). We had deserts of cheese cake and baked apple tart followed by a liqueur coffee and cappuccino taken in the lounge (sadly a bit soulless). There was an offer in October of a complementary drink - we forgot our voucher but this was no problem and we were given another voucher for October. It’s such a pleasure to have this sort of service. We had a superb lunch in September sat on the terrace. We love the white table cloths.

We stopped for just a coffee as it’s easy parking and ended up having a superb lunch served by the lovely Lucie - £17 for 2 courses including coffee and petit fours. We saw the chef picking herbs in the herb garden and asked if we could have the sea bass baked instead of fried and she said “of course”. The bass came with 3 vegetables in a separate dish as well as more vegetables on the plate. We finished with the Drambui parfait (I couldn’t taste the Drambui) and a chocolate tart. We were “topped up” numerous times with coffee which we took in the lounge. Sensitive Lucie waited until I was paying the bill before telling me another car had reversed into mine - we appreciated Lucie telling us the bad news after we had finished our meal. Lucie also gave us some discount vouchers for September. A very enjoyable 2 hours despite the damage to our car that is easily repaired.

Many thanks for providing us with a great evening for our Christmas Party in the Hampshire Room on Saturday evening. The stairs and the room were beautifully decorated for Christmas and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The organisation and the serving went seamlessly. There was a decent gap between courses. The food was truly delicious. Apparently the lamb was superb. My sea bass was really nicely cooked, and the flavours tasty. The gluten free choices were outstanding. That guest was amazed at the extent of choice. All 31 guests were full of compliments, and I didn’t hear anything negative. I considered that the cost of the night were reasonable and good value for money. The house wines were perfectly drinkable. It was helpful that there was flexibility in the choice of colour of wine, so that we were able to swap colours if we wished. You were willing to let my husband play his guitar to the guests and we had a lovely singsong. I hope we didn’t bother the guests downstairs! The disco proved popular at the end. I have every intention of booking the room again for next year’s Christmas party! Many thanks to Nikki and the team. Fiona

We had a family get together at The Lysses Richmond restaurant. We had the “Summer Special “, what excellent value. In our part we had a nut allergy and a vegan, all were catered for flawlessly, I cannot praise this aspect highly enough. All of the staff know exactly what goes into each dish as it is all made on site. Every meal was faultless. The staff are excellent, special praise goes to James the restaurant manager who certainly went the extra 100 miles to ensure our evening was great. The deserts for the Birthday people even contained birthday wishes from the hotel. In terms of value, I don’t think any of the other restaurants in Fareham come close, there are others that charge more and deliver much less. I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant to anyone, and especially those with special dietary requirements.

We stayed the night at the hotel and had one of the best dinners we have ever eaten. We both started with the portobello mushrooms on toasted brioche with poached egg - unusual and very tasty. For main course we had the lamb which was 4 slices of very tender meat. Three vegetables were served separately as well as 4 different vegetables on the plate - everything cooked to perfection. For desert I had the chocolate concord and my partner the banana sponge and marmalade ice cream with butterscotch sauce - this was the best choice. We spoke to Clive the chef for the past 32 years and said the meal was better than 5 star hotels we’ve visited. We finished with liqueur coffees and petit fours. The table was decorated with little confetti hearts and a candle floating on a display of an artificial rose in water. A single rose for the ladies would have been a nice touch too. Summer gave us excellent service - courses served with just the right interval. A wonderful evening and well worth the £32 each. We will test the Sunday lunch next!!!?

We were amazed with the quality and reasonable price of the lunch. I had the two course. My partner had 3 courses, the pea soup to start and we both had the sea bass for main course which was served on crushed potatoes and a delicious sauce with a generous portion of vegetables (in a separate dish) of carrots, red cabbage and broccoli. I had the crème brûlée for desert and my partner had the custard tart and cream. Coffee and petit fours were included which we took in the bar lounge. We were served by Beth and Lucie who were quick and efficient. We were given a jug of water on our table for two with a crisp white table cloth, plus a glass of Sauvignon house wine for me and orange and lemonade for my partner. The food was delicious, hot and well presented. With the Gourmet Society 25% discount the bill came to £30.60! Six of us went to the restaurant to try their Sunday lunch. This proved to be an inspired decision. The offering follows the "set price" format and for us anyway this is a good point. Plenty of choices to consider, even for people with strong "convictions" or allergies. The food we had was very tasty and well presented. Service was provided by a small army of charming young ladies who really looked after us very well. Nothing was too much trouble for them. We went back to the restaurant the next day to leave a worthwhile tip for the waiting staff. It was a sunny day and we went outside to finish the meal with our coffees/teas and petit fours! Altogether a vey positive experience and certainly the best way to spend a couple of enjoyable hours on a Sunday. We will do this again !

Had a wonderful Sunday lunch here. The roast beef was cooked perfectly and was so easy to cut, showing it was good quality meat. The Yorkshire Pudding was truly like mum used to make, it was puffy and tasted delicious. The veg were perfectly cooked, they obviously have a real chef who cares about what he serves. The rest of the menu looked interesting and I will return to try some other dishes, the idea with chicken with Palma crackling sounds lovely. The staff were attentive and very friendly. They suggested coffee on the terrace and that provided a lovely setting to round off the meal.At £22 for a three course meal, it was indeed a bargain.

oked a room for a special event at Lysses. There was plenty of room in the shady, leafy car park. With its wedding cake ceilings and chandeliers it was a great choice. We had a smaller room off the main dining area and the table was arranged in a square so no-one was far away. Despite it being Sunday with another event going on and no doors between us, it felt very private. We decorated the room ourselves with no problems and retired for aperitifs in the stylish lounge. We had previously arranged for gluten free, dairy free and vegetarian choices and we had two children who were catered for too. The choices were good in each course and each dietary problem had their own separate menu, just as good, The staff were friendly and helpful throughout and we were not rushed. The starters were unusual and tasty. The roast beef option came like slices of steak with a Yorkshire pud nearly as big as your head. The fish choice was apparently supreme. There was a great selection of vegetables and plenty of roasties, Everything was beautifully cooked and presented. The sweets were very pretty and delicious. The star of the day had her plate written by the chef. After the meal we had bottomless fresh coffees and petit fours. The chef appeared then to make sure everything had been great (and probably to check we were all still alive, which we are used to!).Finally we retired to the lovely terrace and the children could run in the garden and climb the tree. Sheltered by a huge blue cedar it is a very pleasant spot, especially as for us, in the sunshine. And after all that the price was very reasonable. Highly recommended.

I wasn't going to review our recent meal here because I felt that it might end up sounding rather too negative. There wasn't anything actually wrong but it was lacklustre - lacking in effort. We got married here a few years ago and the whole of the wedding experience was excellent with no complaints of any sort. We decided to return for an anniversary meal partly because of convenience; we didn't want to travel too far as it was midweek. The interior of the hotel is lovely and very grand looking and the dining room has recently been redecorated. I thought it looked like quite a soft lilac colour but someone else described it as grey and dull. I thought it looked nice. We went through to the bar where a very young girl was working, although we did have to wait for her to show up. We ordered drinks and she brought menus over for us to peruse. There was some small confusion with the menus as we wanted the a la carte, not set menu but it turned out to be more or less the same thing; the a la carte is the 'Grill Menu' (I think). We were still carrying our coats as we walked in to the dining room and had to ask for them to be taken, which they were with no fuss but WE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO ASK! As it was mid week the restaurant was virtually empty - only one other table occupied as far as I could see. (We were tucked around a corner from the main body of the restaurant so couldn't see all of it) It was quite cosy in that position though. We also had to ask our waitress to bring the wine list which hadn't been given to us with the menus. (Again, shouldn't have to ask). Our starters were pulled pork terrine - nice texture - and nice size portion but rather lacking in flavour - I think because it was so cold - the flavour couldn't come out. For mains we had chicken breast (nice and plump and moist) served with a wine gravy (slightly too salty). Crème brulee for dessert which was genuinely really nice - lovely thick caramelised crunchy top. Overall the evening was ok, but nothing more, just ok. I really do think it should be more than just ok because it's such a lovely hotel in such a good location. The meal came to about £85 with the wine. I will not say don't eat here - I just wish it would up its game a bit (and the prices if that's what it needs)

She gave us detailed information of gluten-free items on the menu and was very helpful in explaining other dishes for dietary conditions, all done with a smile and a cheerful demeanor.Food was of a very high standard and well presented with a varied selection from the menu, all cooked to perfection. The wine list is very comprehensive and we elected for a Chilean Red which turned out to be superb. The dining area was light and airy and whilst we were there, early evening, very quiet. Probably to be expected on a Tuesday evening. However the staff were very good without being intrusive. Service was smooth, efficient and professional. All in all a very enjoyable evening made all the more so by Izzy - superb

Three of us came here for midweek lunch. From the moment we arrived the service was welcoming, helpful and efficient without being intrusive. The restaurant atmosphere was calm and quiet despite several tables being occupied. The white wine was served at a perfect chilled temperature for a warm day, and the food was attractively presented, tasty and well cooked. The lunch menu was excellent value. We left congratulating ourselves that we had chosen well.

We went to the Lysses Richmond Restruant for our 2nd wedding anniversary and had a wonderful evening there. The Lysses is a older vintage building well kept and nicely established on the inside. First there was a very comfortable sitting room where we had our before dinner drinks. Then we were escorted into the dining room, which was very elegant, for our dinner. The food was great and we enjoyed all of the servings. They even made up special plates for our anniversary pudding. After dinner we went back into the sitting room to enjoy some coffee. The service was first class and friendly! We will eat here again.Even though we did not stay at the hotel, we looked at the pictures of the rooms and decided to keep this hotel in mind for when we have visitors. The room rates are very reasonable and include a breakfast too.

Probably the worst meal I've ever had. Revolting chicken liver parfait, trio of gravelax (sic) was a piece of smoked salmon, defrosted crayfish tails and some bony smoked fish. Rump of lamb was well cooked but amazingly bland, confit of duck tasted like Chinese takeaway crispy fried. We declined desert. Our glassware looked as though it had been through the dishwasher 5000 times and our cutlery had fingerprints on it. Decor reminded me of an old folks home and the ambiance matched. We spend £60 including a bottle of wine and two G&T's. Nice garden though.

Have enjoyed the hospitality at this restaurant two or three times a year for a long time. The food served to me tonight was exceptional. The staff as always are welcoming and friendly. I am almost sorry to give such praise and give away a wonderful little place tucked away just for us.

I have been to the Richmond restaurant many times before. I go there often when I want something a little more special. The Richmond Restaurant is located within Lysses Hotel Fareham, set at the old end of town. The restaurant has a lounge area with relaxing seating, the perfect place to meet friends for a drink before dinner. The restaurant itself is split into 2 main rooms. One smaller room can be hired for private functions and is very traditional; the other larger room is the main dining area. Most tables have plenty of room around them so you don’t feel squashed in.The staff are excellent. Very tentative and well trained; they will make your experience along with the great food. This isn’t the kind of restaurant where you get huge servings but what you will find is excellent food, simply done and to perfection every time.Often there are set meals available where you pay usually around £15-£20 for a 4 course meal (Starter, Main, Sweet and Coffee).Parking can be tricky on site if it is a busy night. Additional parking is available opposite in the council run car park. This is a place well worth visiting and somewhere I go regularly because of the consistency of atmosphere, service and above all the quality of the food.
