Really good blend of indie rock, jazz, funk tunes in the background which combined with the friendly service and plant-laden aesthetic makes for a must-see Cardiff experience. If it’s sunny, the rooftop is unmatched anywhere in the city.

Good atmosphere and decoration- chill cozy vibe. The coffee comes on the milder side tho.

Used to really enjoy coming here but on my last visit was asked to move tables as the table I was sat at was for larger groups. I said a friend would be joining me but they insisted they'd find me a 2-seater and then proceeded to seat two others at the original table. Will be finding another coffee shop moving forward!

Stopped in for a coffee when passing. The coffee was pretty good. Given the location, it was not surprising to see lots of students inside. The music was pretty loud for an oldy like me, but appreciate it appeals to the majority of their customers. The roof terrace and the funky furniture set this cafe apart from the competition.

The staff are nice, they have great coffee and it's a great place to study.

Coffee rates highly! Not so much the experience. Somehow feels quite industrial inside, WiFi took an age to get working, and I can never quite relax when they've said you'll be asked to leave after a certain length of time (which was seperate to WiFi expiry) Plugs available. Big open space which is a plus.

I have to leave a review for the utterly fantastic staff, especially Imogen, of Rhostio! I held my 50th birthday party there in December and it was EPIC!!! I had lots going on, but Imogen was tremendous - answered all my questions, helped in so many ways, and was just a wonderful person to help sort my party…🎊🎊 I HIGHLY recommend anyone to have a party / event there!!🎊 The atmosphere is so relaxed and gorgeous, excellent bar and the staff were bloody wonderful!!! It all made for such a fantastic evening, everyone REALLY enjoyed themselves!!!! I cannot rate Rhostio highly enough - if you’re wondering about it as a venue, don’t…. The coffee here is great - I've never seen latte art quite like this before! The matcha was especially good :) I like that the drinks come with a biscuit. it's a perfect place for doing some coursework or co-working and having a little treat. The staff are so friendly, and the decor and the windows really are as much of a vibe as it looks like from the outside.

Love Rhostio especially when Sunday is making the coffee. He's such a lovely guy and makes beautiful animals and patterns on the coffee. The staff are so helpful and polite. The coffee tastes amazing as well.

We looked online to see if you’d be open. No details about closing. We’ve travelled 45 minutes to visit! On arrival there’s a not on the door to say closed for a private event. This is really disappointing as we wanted 90 minutes altogether! Do better :/

Really nice cafe and beautifully prepared coffee, chosen by my daughter. The place was pretty full on a Sunday afternoon and most people were students who were busy working independently on their own drvices. Will definitely return.

Held my 40th Birthday get-together here and the staff at Rhostio could not have been more accommodating. For 2 hours we took over a length of the cafe with friends and family, along with kids ranging from 8 weeks old to 10 years. It was a great place for everyone with a mix of sofas, long and small tables. The kids took over a table and played games whilst eating cake and having soft-drinks, babychinos or hot chocolates whilst the grown ups sampled coffees, beer and cocktails (and some of the cakes!). We very easily set up a tab which was quite a bit lower than I would have expected - I even checked twice that everything was on there! There are various multi-buy offers that benefited us, and they'd be generous enough even for a small group of friends meeting up to take advantage of, making the place incredibly good value. The staff could not have been more helpful despite it already being busy in the cafe. We had arranged it some weeks beforehand and when I spoke to someone on the phone about it, she was the only person from all the cafes I spoke to who really understood what I was looking for - everywhere else wanted to offer me music, a DJ, or exclusive opening when all I wanted was a space where I could guarantee my friends could gather and drink great coffee, maybe have a beer or two and eat cake! Great experience for everyone and definitely a place I'd recommend to anyone for a low-key gathering.

Service is slow and…not the friendliest! Roof top has great views and has the sun all evening, it would be amazing if it was refurbished on the roof top. Indoors is lovely and has a great atmosphere. More of a student place though.

Fabulous place with great coffee and cake!

We arrived for breakfast, but the QR code menu did not work, which the staff did not warn us about, and there was no breakfast and no food except a couple of toasts and pieces of cake. What was not mentioned either on the website or on Instagram.

Easily one of the most lively and vibey coffee spots in Cardiff! Amazing speciality coffees, amazing selection of cocktails and other beverages. There are a few desserts as well, which are too sweet and nice! Ambience ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 11/10 for the ambiance. For starters, its located stands out, away the bustling was Cardiff city, just into the Crwys Road in cathays with ample street parking. Its got two floors with ample dining including a very happening rooftop. On weekdays, it looks like most tables are occupied by people with laptops working on every table The weekend, however, is a different vibe altogether. They're open till night during weekends, and host a bunch of activities including DJ and live music. Coffee ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Coffee and other hot beverages are perfect every time. They've got a good selection of hot beverages too. There's iced coffee, iced chocolate and smoothies too in the menu although I haven't tried any. Food & desserts ⭐⭐⭐ I've never tried sandwiches from here (from what I know they no longer have a kitchen). Have tried every single dessert available - cakes/ brownies. You’d l love them if you have a sweet tooth! Service: The staff has been lovely every single time. Can't complain! Verdict: 10/10 recommended for a coffee and good vibes. Also a good spot for working with laptops, as they've got sufficient plugs by the tables for charging.

Cafe with nice interior, good coffee, open till late and probably the best cafe to work in that I have found in Cardiff so far!

Came in on my own and was welcomed by a friendly vibey atmosphere! You can tell these employees love working here! Take so much time and care into making coffees and serving their customers. I was served by Jess and Jessy. Can’t wait to come again!

Probably the best coffee you’ll find in the area. Actually know the measurement of a flat white, and I see them using scales for each cup. The food is lovely and the staff are welcoming - their Coffee Club is worth every penny (250g beans for £8 something and a free coffee), couldn’t ask for more

Imogen is the kindest most beautiful soul! She was chatty and friendly whilst making the most incredible coffees. The whole experience was a delight from the music to the decor. I also walked away with the cutest keyring as a gift! I’ll be a regular from now on because I want to start everyday like that at my new local x

Service, coffee and selection of cakes here is always amazing! Staff are so friendly and helpful when you’re not quite sure what to order. I would definitely recommend trying something whacky like the cold brew lemonade. It’s so good!!

We love this coffee shop. The coffee and cake here is absolutely perfect.. The Victoria sponge cake is my favourite in Cardiff . The staff Nigel and Imogen were very friendly and entertained my 1.5 year old as well as I had my coffee in peace. Will definitely come here again.

Large, light space full of greenery and good music. The servers are very friendly and efficient. Drinks are good, teas, coffees, iced teas, creative and classic cocktails for whatever your reason to visit. Small but delicious food menu serving brunch, toasties and small bites. Downstairs is accessible, upstairs is not, but for those who are able, the rooftop garden gets plenty of sun and nice views over the Cathays and Roath area. A favourite of mine for studying or for meeting friends for coffee or drinks before a night out.

Nicest coffee in Cardiff in my opinion - or at least it’s to my taste. I normally come in on the weekends to read and doom-scroll and it’s been a lovely place to bring friends. Staff seem lovely, toasties are good. If I had to critique, some more loungey laid-back chairs and WiFi on weekends would be handy.

Was walking through Cathays this morning and the heavens opened - this was the nearest place, we took cover. As soon as we stepped through the door, we were warmly welcomed into this super stylish urban-indoor-coffee-jungle! The matching furniture, the plants, coffee and overall ambience was perfect. Was recommended by the knowledgable staff to try a fruity Ethiopian blend on a V60 - it was truly delicious. After initially only popping in to stay dry, whilst we were there the food being served looked so good I had to order some pancakes - again delicious. Prices were very fair considering the quality and lower than some of the places in Canton. Even had to buy a bag of beans to take away. So gooooood! Ps loved the especially small spoons too.

What a lovely place to have a quick stop and have coffee. 2 hours free parking is feasible on the road. Entrance to the cafe is easy. Ambiance was good. It was tidy and staff seemed welcoming but were too busy- which is good. Toilet was clean, overall arrangement was impressive. Apart from temperature which was colder for a coffee place, overall experience was good. I’d definitely recommend their Flat White.

Shout out to the lady in the dungarees working her ass off to make all the cocktails! (Which were lovely). Meanwhile the male bar tender stood on his phone the entire time and didn’t give her any help. Waited 25 minutes for a mocktail and glass of wine. Also no lock on the female toilets🫠

Lovely spot for a very nice coffee. Roasted at premises apparently. Food choice is decent, although poached eggs on my order was a bit average.
