Restaurant Les Enfants Terribles in Weymouth and Portland

Our first visit here, although we had already recommended it to family & friends as a place we wanted to go since we bought a place locally, so we finally made it. We did go on a Winter season fixed price offer, so that kept the price down and offers very good value. Food was superb, Squid & Chickpea starter was superb, the Sea Bass signature dish also superb. The wine list is compact but decent and priced realistically. The chef/owner is a bit if a character, not sure if the slightly sour demeanour is an act or he genuinely is a bit grumpy, but his kitchen skills are what matters. The only thing that could be improved is the lighting, it’s a bit bright, especially when the kitchen turn on the lights over the serving area, it can be a bit like a Saturn V taking off, softer warmer lighting and a shield around the serving lights would be great, there may be some reason it to shield the serving lights, but the overall lighting could be softer. Overall a very enjoyable dinner, good value on the off season deal but would be happy to pay standard prices at busier times.

Superb meal, excellent lunchtime service. The oysters, fish & chips and a finish of panacotta are highly recommended.

Soup and starters were nice warm and tasty. We had a rich and tender seabass, mussels in amazing sauce and a 2 people sea platter. We oysters the first time! 😀 The atmosphere was really cosy and felt part of the family. However there was something missing from the sea food experience and just can't give it 5 stars. Maybe next time. 😉

Very small and intimate and truly surprising - the lunch we had was REALLY good - and whilst it is on the pricey side, it was worth every penny. Outstanding for a small restaurant and we will definitely be going again.

We were in Weymouth! It was the last evening of October 2023! It was raining and blowing a hoolie! That is until we entered ‘Les Enfants Terribles’! We were met by Chef Eric and immediately transported to a sultry romantic evening somewhere in France! It was warm and inviting, with the lighting, the music and the aroma of French cooking! We were shown to our table by Kieran our brilliant waiter for the evening, where we ordered a beautiful bottle of Merlot. My partner chose the seafood soup from the 3 course set menu starters and I opted for the grilled squid on a bed of chickpeas! Both starters were cooked to perfection and delicious. Another glass of Merlot and on to the main courses! My partner choosing the Portland crab with tomato salad and fries which she adored! My choice was Chef Eric’s signature dish of whole Seabass fillets with leeks, carrots Fennel and white wine, cooked and served in foil, which was the finest fish dish I have ever eaten! Desserts were chocolate cheesecake and a calvados based liqueur coffee to finish off a fantastic experience, with the stars of the show being the Seabass and Grilled squid! Chef Eric was on hand to answer our questions regarding his food and showed genuine interest in us! Kieran, our waiter, being so attentive and professional made our dining experience a joy! Thank you again Chef Eric and his team!

We had a fabulous meal that was perfect for a special occasion. I just wish we had booked an evening slot as there were only two other guests at lunchtime.

We really enjoyed yesterday's French meal as prepared by the very talented Eric and his team. I had the mussel special for my main and it was exactly as I like it - a beautiful, strong white wine sauce with perfectly cooked chips to dunk in it. The apple and walnut cake went down a treat with a glass of Sauternes and the post meal coffees were very nice with what we thought were homemade Amaretti biscuits. We always try and get the opportunity to try Weymouth seafood when we're in the area and Les Enfants Terribles does it proud. I'd love to come again in the future and try the fish and chips - any excuse to have more of the chips! Thanks for a great meal.

We have been to Chef Eric’s restaurant more than once and the food is fabulous. The staff are friendly, helpful and professional and Eric is a great host that makes you feel extremely welcome and cares about your dining experience. Thank you for another wonderful culinary experience.

A must visit restaurant. Fish at its best. Friendly and accommodating staff. Eric will happily come and discuss any alteration you may require due to likes or diary requirements. When we visited he said "Everything is possible " which was exactly what I wanted to hear. Delicious food and friendly staff. It's a great place to go for a special night out.

Small but very well run fish restaurant

Wonderful food, friendly service and great leisurely lunch. Would highly recommend, and for the couple who behaved so appallingly in the Terrace I do hope karma catches up with you. Chef Eric has the patience of a saint!

Lovely little french seafood restaurant. Waited an hour before getting our first edibles on the table as the chef was slow in letting us know the specials of the day. Great place though and lovely atmosphere so would still recommend.

At a very busy time coped pretty well. Sea bass in foil was excellent but the cod was poor. No decaffeinated coffee. Lovely views and lots of outdoor space good for dry days

Fish platter for two was a fantastic experience. Great service and Chef Eric catered to all our needs.

Don't leave more than 7% tips for their servers. The owner leaves tips at 7% in other restaurants.

Delicious cooked to order food. Chef Eric was very attentive, speaking to every diner about his menu. He couldn't be more accommodating in relation to my husband's unusual food allergy. Would definitely eat here again if we were local.

Sat outside at this restaurant in Weymouth yesterday, great food and friendly staff. We had fish and chips which was superb, not huge but just the right amount and great flavour.

What a fabulous restaurant! Service is extremely helpful and friendly. Chef Eric comes to the table before you order to tell you about the daily specials and answer any questions you have on the menu. The food cooked by sous chef Tiegan is absolutely delicious. Will definitely go again.

Came here for my partners birthday meal which was on Monday but they're closed then so we came on the Saturday before, I had mentioned this to the waitress and when she brought out our deserts she put a candle in his cake! Such a lovely gesture! we received a courtesy call during the day to say they were very short staffed so they were running on a reduced menu, this wasn't an issue at all and meant we ordered items we wouldn't usually go for, all of the food was absolutely incredible, really fresh and beautifully prepared! The service was great and the chef came out to greet each table especially and explained the short menu, which was a really nice touch, the only down side was that one other table was very loud, drunk and obnoxious which was a lot to deal with in quite a small venue. All in all a fantastic experience and we will definitely be returning to try the rest of the menu!

Service was very slow, which they did explain on the menu, as well as the chef coming out to say. Food was good, but not worth the wait. Drinks incredibly expensive 200% mark up on bottles of beer that can bought in the supermarket.

I really want to have the fish soup but unfortunately they can’t serve the full menu unless you book in advance. You can only have the walk in menu therefor I am very disappointed. We ordered the full platter but the mussels had one or two of off therefore they spoiled the rest, apart from that I do like it.

If you haven't been, you absolutely need to, the food is amazing and customer service is excellent. They were happy to cater for my food intolerance and didn't disappoint!

What an amazing find in the lovely town of Weymouth! I came with my dad to celebrate the long Easter weekend, and Les Enfants was one of the highlights of our trip! Eric is such a fantastic chef, we had dinner here and came back for lunch the next day! After having enquired about scallops at dinner, Eric remembered us and rang us the next morning to say he had bought some from the fishmongers especially for us! He prepared them beautifully and it was a wonderful off-menu surprise! Absolute world-class service in the heart of the Jurassic coast. Will absolutely return with as many people as I can find! Massive thanks as well to Kelly and the rest of the wonderful staff who made us feel so welcome. The food and atmosphere is amazing, couldn’t fault it at all! We’ll be back!

Best Harbour side restraunt In weymouth, good food ,freindley staff

A birthday celebration lunch for my son and his girlfriend. Scouted through TripAdvisor looking for somewhere to take them, as I live over 200 miles away. Spoke with Chef Eric to reserve the table. We were most definitely not disappointed. A small, excellent menu, all dishes were superbly cooked and presented and I would genuinely urge you to go there to try anything he offers. Today five of us had prawn and crab starters, sea bass, fishcakes and fish and chip main courses and creme brullee, honey cake and exquisite poached pears for dessert. I just wish I lived closer.

Very cosy atmosphere. Fish is nothing compared to Greece, but still very much ok. I liked the crabs.

Such a great restaurant, with a menu that reflects local produce and seasonal dishes. The wine selection offered great choice, we went with the house white, shout out to the creativity with the label. Our children had the beef linguine, which was superb. We had the specials, mackerel & trout (amazing) Overall, superb restaurant that offers exceptional seafood. (Hats off to the Poole Oysters - giants!) Will definitely come again.

Had a lovely lunch here. Cosy relaxed atmosphere with a friendly professional service at this unpretentious harbourside restaurant. Absolutely perfect meal. We both had the Half Sea Bass on bed of vegetables and served with baby potatoes, all of which were cooked to perfection. Followed by the Walnut and Honey Cake with tea......perfect. The Platter also looked fantastic, which had been ordered on another table. However, we only wanted a light lunch. Nice to see French influenced menu. Highly recommend.

Great location. Friendly staff. Was very busy when we went and subsequently servicena bit slow but not unreasonably so given the number of covers being served.

A charming restaurant in a lovely seaside town. The food was excellent and all concerned were attentive and considerate. Monsieur Tavernier, the chef came and chatted to us about the menu which added to the ambience of the whole evening.

An absolute delight dining here! It’s better to reserve and make a booking as we did a walk in, so the menu is slightly limited as it’s reserve for people who does reservations. Despite that! The seafood was very fresh, and the portion was huge. They gave us large fries and tomato salad along with the seafood platter for one. Oysters were super fresh and service was great!

Amazing food. I don't even understand how the chef is able to make a simple potatoe taste so good.

This is food prepared with real thought and care. We had the clams and crispy squid starter. Trout, seabass, French beans and dauphinois main. Shared pears poached in red wine for desert. One of those rare occasions where every dish was flawless. Thanks to Eric and the team!

Hi Chef Eric, I have just seen your reply to my original review, where you say that you cannot recall the incident! It was 100% your resteraunt and 100% you that prepared the food! Please see the image attached prior to receiving our food. I would check your reviews more often, as clearly your memory isn’t the best. Just be a man, say sorry and improve your service and wear a hair net! You have replied to all poor reviews, saying it never happened at your resteraunt, which is utterly narcissistic and embarrassing. Learn from your reviews and stop being child!

A bijou restaurant down by the harbour entrance offering fantastic seafood dishes in a very personable atmosphere, seating both inside and outside, I would recommend to anyone who is looking for a comfortable, friendly dining experience and enjoys their seafood.

Having booked well in advance, I received a text from Eric (the owner) a week before the booking informing me that due to staff shortages they will be serving the lunch menu at dinner as well. Fortunately there was still lots of dishes my wife and I like. On the night we were welcomed to a busy restaurant. The food and service were both excellent. Oysters followed by lovely fish & chips for me. Shelled prawns followed by sea bass baked in foil for my wife.Not cheap eats, but we’ll worth a visit.

Went here for our wedding anniversary, and we were not disappointed, great food and service, the staff were friendly and polite, and the chef çame out of the kitchen and had a chat with us, I will definitely be going back here again 😁

We booked for a Sunday lunch in mid September snd were blessed by the weather so enjoyed a fabulous harbour view from the restaurant’s terrace. Eric, the owner chef, took time to talk to us and the staff were wonderful. We had a seafood platter for one and the sea bass, both of which were fabulously fresh, incredibly tasty and unbelievably good value. We will return the next time we are in the area for sure!

Absolutely delicious. The restaurant and the food. It was difficult to get a booking and once we tasted the food I understood why. This place books up months In advance and hardly surprising. The restaurant itself had a lovely feel, quaint and great location. We own a holiday let in Weymouth and this was our first visit to restaurant we had kept walking past previous and always wanting to try. This time we got lucky and boy did we luck out. Our booking was quite early as only time they could fit us in, but once we got our starters nothing else mattered but how delicious the food was. We had lescargot and Squid also the seafood platter. Every mouthful a delight. The staff were friendly and worked hard. But the chefs excel themselves which included the owner. This will be on our list of must visit every time we come here now. If you don’t try this place boy you are really missing out! Fantastic…

Excellent service, friendly owners and first class seafood and oysters. The setting is ideal for a fish restaurant and dining al fresco is a must.

Sea bass is fantastic. Limoncello panactta was amazing. Beef on the specials menu was the best I have tasted anywhere in the world.

My husband booked this as the food is very different and after reading the reviews we were keen to try it, we weren't disappointed. Lovely restaurant and attentive staff. We were shown to our table quickly and given wine and food menus. There was no rush to order and we were given time to choose. My husband had the sea bass which was served with herb potatoes. He said it was delicious. I ordered the chicken dish with goats cheese and stuffing, this was served with beans wrapped in parma ham and dauphinoise potatoes. It was cooked to perfection and the flavours were amazing. Chef Eric went to every table which i thought was really nice. Well worth a visit

Amazing Sunday afternoon meal! The food was faultless, the sea bass is a must try when you visit. Chef Eric himself even visited our table to ask how our meal was which was a nice touch. Great range of drinks and the staff are super friendly. Will definitely revisit, and make sure you book as it is always packed!

We were so lucky to get a table, and decided to go mad and have the ultimate seafood platter, which turned out to be every seafood lovers dream! Can't wait to go back and try the other dishes, which looked fabulous as they came out for the other diners. Friendly and efficient staff and the chef came to talk to us a couple of times. The local wines were a great accompaniment to the meal too.

We visited this restaurant following a recommendation from a close family member . We ended up returning 3 nights in a row ! The food is exceptional, our son ordered the fish cakes 3 nights in a row ! I had them too , highly recommend the cod, sea bass and beef tenderloin too ! The oysters , cream brûlée and cheese and biscuits also fab. Have a tipple of port or the rose wine number 12 both fab . Eric the chef made our holiday , he personally visits the table in between cooking up the most delicious of dishes we have tasted. The staff are endearing, Kelly is an asset so professional and proficient , nothing too much trouble , she looked after the young new bee boy waiters . The young waitress was adorable she took time to pet our puppy and showed us pictures of her own dog Saffie the staffie which made our night . Overall this restaurant has it all , great harbour views , lovely staff , fantastic food and is exceptional. Will definitely return and highly recommend.

Delicious seafood. We had some fantastic oysters followed by the chef's signature Sea bass. An absolute treat!

This is a very nice restaurant, you could see the chef has a lot of passion. The service for the food was a little slow but that didn't bother me as it was evidently being prepared from scratch. I'm deducting a mark because they couldn't confim definitively if the trout was farmed or wild. Nevertheless it was very nice. Apologies for falling asleep at my table, I was very drunk...

Very dissapointed, we waited outside to be served, the chef and (his wife?) Came out, spoke to other guests who we assumed were friends of theirs and both of them completely blanked myself and my friend, proceeded to have a very lengthy conversation with the friends and at no point acknowledge us who were stood there for a long while. After a number of minutes we gave up, as didn't feel that the service was up to scratch. I know it's busy BH weekend, but to be blanked is in no way acceptable. It was clear they knew we were waiting, normally a glance across to say "1 minute" or something to that extent would have been good.
