Crustacean in Weymouth and Portland

Well we were booked for a surprise 60th Birthday meal on 22nd December 2023. Spoke directly with the restaurant to book & he phoned back to clarify . Just under before someone said they were shutting for Christmas & New Year - their last night was Monday 18th. I rang them constantly that evening with no answer, & I’ve rang them since. I have emailed them with out reply. I have never in my life had such poor customer service

Outstanding food, good amount of fish in every dish we had and good service well worth another visit.

Five stars for excellent food, superb welcome and the delightful Chloe who made our birthday celebration very special. Note especially that it is one of the few places open on a Monday night.

Visited here on a Monday evening for dinner, the restaurant was half full which I thought was good for a Monday evening The service was very good, there was only 1 waitress serving called Chloe and she did a tremendous job, she was very friendly, attentive to all tables and able to answer any questions. The food was delivered in good time with enough time between courses for an acceptable gap, the food was delicious, especially whitebait and mussels.we will definitely visit again and hats of to Chloe a superstar which I hope her boss recognises. ( And of course behind the scenes in the kitchen) They also have some lovely local artwork which you can buy if desire. .

It's OK but the food is not as flavourful as it should be, and for the price, it should be really good. The food is fresh, the service is good.

Great little find, amazing seafood would definitely go again, loved its a bit more of a fine dining look. Staff very friendly and attentive.

Fantastic food, absolutely no complaints with anything. The service was brilliant and the food was amazing. Don't understand some of the negative reviews. One woman last night actually barged herself into the kitchen to complain that her sauce was too "sharp" and needed more butter. Sums up some of the negative reviews on here are unfounded and submitted by the worst of society. Great place, great service. Would revisit again definitely.

Before you read my review, please see the friendly manager comments to explain how uneducated I am in my details below. Then read on ... Something has clearly gone a miss here. Uncooked prawns and off lobster. Never again... You have a high hopes reading all the wonderful 4*/5* reviews. Did we go to the wrong restaurant - nope. Did we choose something difficult to cook - nope. Was the chef off, may be. Would we go again - no! Let's start with positive, the staff who did everything the could to make the best out of a bad situation. The team was very pleasant and chatty and had plenty of time for us but.... It does not cover the fact that Thai Prawn Balls were stone cold from the kitchen. Yes they were replaced quickly but something so simple, should not go wrong. Moving on, two surf and turfs; Lobsters and Fillet Streak. On one of the dishes the lobster meat was grey and watery, it looked off. We were told one was from yesterday's catch, hence the difference in cooking. Hardly freshly caught! Hardly reassuring!! So, given my experience with the prawns, I decided to just stick with my steak and send the lobster back. I'd now given up on getting a properly cooked crustacean at this place. In fact I just given up, as the streak really was not a fillet more sirloin but i prefer this cut , so kept stum. The other steak was more a rump, than a sirloin, let alone a fillet. (Edit: menu had changed from fillet to sirloin. At least one of the steaks was good) But by now we had all just had enough, thankfully the attentive staff and manager reduced our bill by half. Even so, mistakes were made. Need to highlighted and hopefully will not happen to a different customer. Well, we know it won't happen to us again! No going back ☹️

It was obvious from the moment we sat down that the restaurant was understaffed, the waitresses were doing their best but were not getting the support. Arrived at 8pm, ordered only mains, and they arrived 1 hour and 45 minutes later, the food was unnaturally hot and a few mouths were burnt, and also did not have much flavor. Other tables were waiting longer. We did highlight the issues with the food and the staff did provide a solution, however until the management resolve issues with the staff shortages we would not be returning. Again well done to the waitresses who were professional and polite and were doing their best.

This restaurant is a welcome change to the other restaurants in Weymouth. Extremely good service coupled with excellent food, very large portions as well!

Very average sadly. We had hoped for better but it lacks atmosphere, the food is nice but nothing special and I suspect it is understaffed.

Delicious seafood, thoroughly enjoyed the creative menu, the seafood platter and sauces were really great and my friend enjoyed the cod. The staff were friendly and helpful, restaurant was clean and comfortable, I would definitely go again if revisiting Weymouth, thanks to all who served us, great job 👏

Disappointing starter of very dried prawns (5 for £10) on a skewer. The rest of the meal was very good, staff very attentive.

We were excited to visit Crustaceans after a tip that it was excellent. Unfortunately our experience was anything but. Seafood tagliatelle that was just bland with obvious frozen squid rings. Lobster thermidor on the tiniest lobster for £45 was so over seasoned it was inedible ( ironically we saw a couple stand up and leave when they found out this fish restaurant was out of lobster at 8pm on a Friday night). We ended up sending both meals back and got out of there. The waiting staff were nice and clearly embarrassed as to what was going on in the kitchen that night. Very disappointing and expensive.

Excellent food perfect evening but music turned so low it couldn't be heard

Having checked the menu before we went I was sceptical about the cost of the food. Yes, it was a bit pricey but the quality was second to none and we really enjoyed it. I would say that the price reflects how quality of the food . The service from our waitresses Chole was fantastic, she was engaging and keen to please and gave advice about the menu choice when asked. The only thing I wasn't happy with was the 10%" mandatory "service charge. We are aware we could have refused to accept this charge but as we were pleased with the quality of the food and great service we paid it. We would have tipped anyway but to attempt to "force "it on customers is likely to have a contra-effect and turn people away especially in this current economic environment

Wow what a fantastic restaurant this is we have came here several times now and it never disappoints. Staff are lovely friendly and very attentive, i also should say that the chefs deserve a mention too as the food is fantastic and fresh. Can't find anything bad to say about this place, if you are in Weymouth this is a definite must you will enjoy it start to finish.

Overpriced and underwhelming. The service was friendly but the food was very disappointing.

My husband sells lobsters to this restaurant,so when friends came over from Canada wanting fresh fish,we booked here.Service was excellent,very attentive.As for the food,well,im not a big fish lover,even being married to a fisherman!! I opted for the cod which I must say was absolutely delicious.One of our friends had the lobster and said it was cooked to perfection.

We came here especially as we had visited before whilst holidaying in weymouth and couldnt wait to to come back ! Staff very polite and welcoming on arrival. Explained to us about lack of wine on offer. We are white wine drinkers, and were limited to 3 options of which the cheapest bottle was £28.50. Ordered tap water which never arrived. Food was very nice and can't be faulted at all. However, the wait time for the food was in my opinion unacceptable with no explanation given. We waited 45 mins-1 hour for our starters and then another hour for our mains! We were sat eating our main courses at 10pm , when ideally we would have been sat in a cocktail bar at this time enjoying the rest of our evening. Having been here previously and having a fantastic experience, this was a massive disappointment and would probably put us off returning which is a shame as the food really is delicious.

Well, it was a difficult evening. We had a reservation. When we came, we were told, one chef hasn't turned up and there would be waiting times for the mains. No problem during a holiday, we thought. Mussels as a starter were nice, although with some sand grains. The crab thermidore was crab meat in a sauce (not in a crab shell), the amount of crab could have been more, lots of parmesan. For the mains we had to wait one and a half hour! We had sea bram and linguine with shellfish, both excellent. However, the vegetables with the fish were bland and soggy. As an excuse for the waiting time we were offered a free dessert. This was very friendly and the creme brulee was nice. Unfortunately, the so called nutella cheesecake was terrible, no cake, but a cup with crumbs and a watery cream - people from the next table did not eat it either. It is a pity, the ambiente is really nice and waitresses did their best, but for what it was, altogether it simply was massively overpriced. I do hope, they will have better times.

Absolutely beautiful food, matched only by the amazing service. Can't reccomend highly enough.

Sorry that I have to give this low score as we actually didn't get to eat any food at all.. we booked a table for 8o'clock we arrived a little earlier about 7.45. Our table was ready so looking forward to some sea food ordered a glass of wine and a lager ordered our starters and mains .then waited and waited and waited etc after 45 mins we were still waiting for our starter. We decided to leave ..the poor waitress was so upset for us ..we paid for our drinks .which we should have been given these FREE.. would not book here again....

Stunning food as always, amazing service too! The food was fresh, cooked exactly how we ordered and I would fully recommend the Lobster. My steak was perfectly cooked as I asked, as soon as we walked the team took very good care for our needs and was always on hand for when we wanted more drinks. If you are looking for both sea food and great steaks this is the place to go! Well done to the team and owners 👏

We ate here on Saturday night. The food was absolutely amazing. The waitresses were lovely, very attentive and polite. Presentation of the food was superb We booked for 8pm, had 2 courses, bottle of wine and left about 10.15, which was fine for us, not rushed and time to enjoy the food and company. Some people were moaning and left abruptly saying the service was slow, it was quite embarrassing and I felt for the staff, there is clearly a shortage of hospitality staff in Weymouth, and running a small business is extremely difficult and demanding in current times. I have no complaints here, nothing was too much trouble for the staff, and I am happy to wait a little longer for the quality of the food and surroundings.

We visit this every time that we manage to get to Weymouth. The menu offers a great range of seafood dishes and more at a consistently high standard and has never disappointed.

It was good. The service was friendly and attentive. But I have to say, they’re not expert at preparing a whole lobster. It was under cooked, the tamale was a dark green gel and close to inedible (didn’t stop me though). They steam the lobster when boiling is a better method in my opinion. The scallop appetizer was quite good, well prepared although a bit pricey (£13 for three scallops).

Had a nice meal here. It was. Tuesday evening so quite quiet. The service was decent and friendly and the food was good but to kind of had to be. £172 for 2 adults and 2 children having 2 courses without much alcohol is a bit steep. With a price tag like that the food would have to be exceptional to get 5 stars. It was nevertheless good and we did have lobster which is never cheap.

Great seafood platter and great service

We arrived relatively early, but were greeted warmly and ushered to our table. We started with whitebait and finished with moules marinières, both of which were delicious. Highly recommend!

Easy to book, friendly staff, nice surroundings and amazing food! This was my first time trying lobster and wow!! Just simply the best food I've ever tasted the lobster was amazing!! My wife had haddock and mashed potatoes and vegetables which she said was amazing. The scallop starters were amazing as well!! Thank you, highly recommended

I was initially going to put 4 starts. The food was good, but a little bit expansive, and there was not much ambiance (March Friday night -low season). At some point during dinner (I am sure this is only a weird accident, but still worth mention), one of the waiter took my partner's phone by accident when taking the menu on our table. That can obviously happen. But then, no one brought it back.. we only realized at the end of the dinner that the phone was missing, started to look for it everywhere. We were about to leave, the localization was a bit off and showing the phone just outside the restaurant, when someone realized the phone was behind at the front desk. I just find it a bit odd, when you realized you have taken a phone by mistake, why you don't do rounds of the table in the restaurant to try to find the owner, right away...

Delicious food, fresh fish and great cocktails.

Enjoyed a lovely lunchtime meal here, seafood platter and seafood linguine both delicious followed but chocolate brownie and the apple crumble. The service was also outstanding. Would definitely recommend.

Nice food, but seriously expensive. The restaurant was very empty but it was clean and the staff were nice. We were there for a mid-week, off-season lunch after getting some good news, so we bit the bullet and had three courses. No alcohol bought, and our bill was still three figures... 😱 We even used their fixed price menu... Thank goodness the food was nice. Not sure it was those prices nice, but I might eat here again if I won the lottery 🤣

Six foodies could not have had a better meal. The service by the new owners, mother, father and son could not be better. Friendly and efficient. The food was local caught fish and seafood, lobsters from Portland harbour, local sea bass, the most succulent scallops....

Wonderful use of space with a contemporary layout (much larger than the front of the venue suggests). Excellent service throughout and a versatile menu. We were treated extremely well and fed some amazing food. Very close to the harbour as well.

This was our first visit to this gem of a seafood restaurant. We enjoyed an ample portion of delicious whitebait to start followed by sea bass on a bed of smashed potato with crab on a saffron and orange sauce, it was delicious-thanks to chefs...

We have visited here a lot over the last 4 years as we moved to Weymouth and it’s always been amazing. We haven’t been for a while and had seen they had started doing Sunday roasts and looked very good so we thought we’d give it a try, we were not disappointed, probably the best roast I have had out for a while, all so tasty and very generous portions. When we arrived we realised it had been taken over and the new owners are very friendly. Will definitely be back.

Visited with a friend for dinner last night. We didn't have a booking but we were made very welcome straight away. Service was friendly and attentative. We both had pan fried sea bass which was cooked perfectly and a delicious home made biscoff cheese cake....
