Had my wedding here, love this quaint hotel with its attentive lovely staff. It has a wonderful atmosphere with good food. A lovely old hotel with lots of character. Good parking and very clean and reasonable

We began by ordering a bottle of sparkling wine. It had not been chilled. The heating was on in the restaurant during summer and it was far too hot. The starters were pleasant. We ordered a fillet steak done medium rare. I do not believe that what was actually served was fillet at all but it was charged as such. It was also cooked medium well done which is not what we ordered. We told the waitress who advised the kitchen. At this point we heard the chef shouting "there is no such thing as medium rare". We also heard the chef admit that the steaks were pre-cooked and reheated to avoid long waits between courses. We actually felt the courses were served too close together, but the chef's admission showed that we would have received the same steak regardless of what was ordered. When our uneaten food was collected at the end of the meal we heard the chef and the waitress complaining that we had wasted food. We told them we could hear every word of their conversation. No apology was offered for the poor food or for the downright rudeness we had experienced. The wider hotel is actually very nice but the restaurant really lets it down.

The hotel is a lovely place, beautiful gardens. However, at dinner my partner ordered a medium rare which was over done. We politely mentioned this to the waitress who then went and told the chef. They made no attempt to discreetly discuss our comment. Instead they walked past the restaurant as the chef loudly said "there's no such thing as medium rare anyway" they continued to discuss how we were wrong for all to hear in the restaurant. We weren't going to say anything, however when the waitress took our plates back to the kitchen she started telling the waitress loudly how we wasted the chicken by not eating it all "what a waste" etc etc. We then told the waitress we could hear everything they were saying. The waitress denied this and walked away ignoring our comment. They continued to discuss the cooking of beef and how we were wrong. The level of customer service exhibited here is incredibly poor. Such a contrast to great reception we received on check in. Looking back on comments there have been other reviews left about the kitchen service and food. Absolutely no need for the staff to gossip for everyone to hear and then ignore our recognition of this. I would personally be disgusted if my staff showed this poor level of customer service it is unacceptable. At the end of the day it was unnecessary and can not be justified.

Very good food cooked fresh and to order - so there may be limits on what is available and the menu will get smaller as the night wears on. First class, all the way.

This is only a review about the restaurant not the hotel. The ladies who served us were helpful and friendly but the food, for me, left a lot to be desired. The portions were unnecessarily large and I have a reasonably good appetite. We both had the baked brie for starter. I managed my starter but my friend left hers - wise move. It was fairly bland despite the slightly caramelised onions. The mains arrived - huge plates of food. I was supposed to have pork fillet on mustard mash. There was a huge portion of mash - with little mustard flavour and not particularly tasty in its own right. I ordered a white wine spritzer - no ice - I asked for ice which came in a separate glass for me to add with my fingers! Our main courses defeated both of us and so we opt to get the bill. Normally I can manage three courses comfortably. If you like big portions it is probably the place for you. It was a Thursday night but the place was very quiet and there was only one other person in the restaurant so difficult to gauge the atmosphere.

My son and his fiancee chose this venue for their wedding breakfast. They found the staff to be very friendly and helpful in planning the event, and on the day - everything went perfectly. There were only 10 of us - this was ideal and the atmosphere was very cosy - with a log fire and comfy chairs before the meal. It was a cold but sunny day, the garden and courtyard made lovely settings for the photographs - and we were permitted to use confetti (not universal these days!), so we have some lovely pictures and in fact - one of the staff took some shots for us - so that we could all be in them. We had asked for pre-dinner drinks - to be chilled - and this was done. The meal was delicious and served in a timely manner, we did not feel at all rushed, and throughout the staff were ready to respond to any request. We took cheese and biscuits, coffee and port in the lounge by the fire - which ended the day in a most memorable way. I don't think that we had any problems whatsoever.

I was among a party of 18 for a Christmas Party Meal. The atmosphere was fantastic, the food superb, the staff friendly and efficient, really I simply cannot fault this establishment, in today's economic climate public service providers really do need to have something special to drawer in the public to spend their money. I cannot recommend The Crown House highly enough.

Booked the crown house 2 days ago for sunday lunch for a party of six. We all chose a very nice glass of pimms at £3 a glass whilst you browsing the menu's in the hotel lounge bar . lots of huge leather sofas and very pleasent . Staff were all very nice the whole time .All enjoyed are differing starters. Main course some chose the traditional beef and yorkshire but 3 of us tried the phesant casserole in creamy mash and trimmings,We shared a sticky toffee pud and a white chocolate bread pudding , nice bottle of rjocca all with tip £25 a head. Very nice meal had by all , very good value , nice service, will return in the near future

I popped in here for a drink during my stay at another local hotel that had zero atmosphere! It was busy with a pleasant hum of happy people chilling out. Red wine was tasty with plent of seating. Car park was quite large so wouldn't have though to many issues parking. Convenient for the airport.

The Grill room always has a nice atmosphere. My Mum and I find it to be A La Carte but relaxed which is a nice mix. The food is delicious, we’ve never had a bad meal. I had the Potato Gratin with baby parsnips (vedgy option) this time and it was delicious. The Chef very kindly did my Mum a chicken option, as she couldn’t eat the other options and she really enjoyed it. Presentation and portion size is very good. Reasonably priced for the quality. When we stay at the hotel we always eat in the Grill room and if we were more local we’d eat here more often.
