Visited here today for lunch and had a great experience. Every member of staff we met were friendly and helpful. Thoroughly enjoyed our food and as the weather was nice we were lucky enough to be able to sit on the lovely terrace. Good drinks selection and a reasonable price for the quality of food and surroundings. Our dogs were welcomed and not just tolerated! Coming back for dinner later in the week….

Under cooked fish and tasteless burgers overwhelmed with horseradish seasoning. The quality of the food is definitely not reflective of the price. Our waiter was lovely though. The buildings are lovely but there are signs of wear and tear and lack of up keeping. It’s a shame really as with the location, beautiful building and friendly staff it has the potential of being very high end venue.

Lovely setting customer service is just so poor. We wanted to prove the reviews from before wrong…, waitress today with brown hair mid 40,s has no customer service skills in any shape way or form. We popped in yesterday to suss the restaurant out before our family meal today. My choice no way would I have come back today. Turned up for a drink yesterday and they served 2 family’s before us and we were there before them and waited for 20 minutes before giving up and leaving without a drink. Today not as busy so service should of been spot on…. Well the waitress needed a hand grenade put some where…. Food so over priced poor quality and we paid £15 for a large wine…. Such a perfect setting but boy there is only one waitress holding your establishment together the older lady with greying hair with a smiling face!!! Food is so overpriced and small potions……. Something needs to change this place could be a gold mine…….staff need to know about customer service and the chef needs to be a higher standard for the prices charged…….

Spa day package. Lunch was a let down, requested no olives on my pre-order it came with olives! No water arrived when I asked for some. Sour dough starter was disappointing & like a brick. Salad main the potatoes were hard & no cup & saucer to drink the hot drink from. Avoided the afternoon tea due to hearing bad reviews. Starter plate didn’t get cleared & the main arrived. Not luxury for a luxury hotel! Best thing were the treatments so would only return for that reason.

Moonfleet manor is located next to the Fleet with great views of Chesil beach. It has been recently renovated to a high standard with a selection of comfortable lounges to chose from. The restaurant area has also been considerably improved since I last went there but unfortunately was very noisy due to workmen replacing glass in a door. The lunch l had , which was a vegetarian salad, was disappointing and very overpriced. I would however return there for coffee after walking along the Fleet but not for a meal.

Food is only average. Service - they try hard but are not that efficient. It is a large restaurant and as the hotel specialises in families, perhaps food is not too important. Very pricey considering the standard of cooking.

We were maybe expecting too much? But it definitely fell short of our expectations from start to finish. Poor signage once off the main road over the roundabout, meant we went the wrong way. Once at the hotel we had no idea where the restaurant itself was as no signs...so we had to ask a member of staff. Hotel has an unfortunate odour which hit us as soon as we walked through the front door. I think it may be their cleaning products but it wasn't nice and reminded us of a care home. Luckily once we got down into the restaurant then the smell was overpowered by food which was good. Staff were really friendly and lovely, but service was extremely slow despite it not being at all busy. We overheard the people on the next table to us actually mention this to the staff (and they had been waiting less time than we had!). Unfortunately food was not up to standard, especially for the price tag. We are more than happy to pay those type of prices if the food was up to standard, but it wasn't. We eat out A LOT and this meal was way below par when compared to similar venues. Hummous and crudites were very basic, potted crab was oily. The steak was not at all good - very chewy and full of fat. Certainly not what was expected for the price - we have had far better steaks in pubs! Puddings were better thankfully. We were told by the waiter that the chef apologised for the steak and that we wouldn't have to pay for it. Then the Head Waiter came over and offered us 5% off as well as free drinks. However when we got the bill, there was no free steak. By this point I didnt even want to bring it up as maybe the waiter wasn't meant to offer us that. 5% came off the bill, but it wasn't off the whole bill, and it wasn't off of all the food, just part of it. Think it gave us just over £4 off which didn't really cut it considering what we had paid for the steak and what it was like. We did get them to remove the service charge - my pet hate! Please watch that as they add on a large service charge and if you don't ask to have it taken off or realise it is on there, then you pay it. Our service charge was just over £15! I hate it when places do this - and I'm sure they do this as they fully expect people not to have the guts to ask to have this removed (most people just prefer to leave a tip of their choice rather than having a set amount thrust on them). All in all we felt it was not a great experience at all and we left very disappointed in the whole evening. Unfortunately we would not want to return.

Went for lunch with two friends last Friday. The hotel is in a very pleasant setting and it's been done up since my last visit. The staff were nice but thats where it ended. White wine spritzer £11. The smallest diet coke I have ever seen £3.50 and a small superfood salad with a tasteless dressing (if any) £11.00 in a slightly bigger bowl than a cereal dish. Very nice surroundings, the area is beautiful but the prices for very mediocre food, rediculous. Maybe they want out of townies with cash to splash, but for locals it's stupid money. Won't be going again.

Largely disapointed with our 30 minute wait for our cream tea. However, when it eventually arrived. It was a 'fun size' scone, much smaller then I was expecting! The cream arrived in a dish that was larger then the scone itself. At least it is better for the waistline ! In their defence they noticed and took 10% of the bill for the wait. On the whole. Service was'nt awful but could have done with being better organised. Unlikely to revisit.

2 adults, 2 children looking fwd to a treat at end of holiday in Dorset. Staff very welcoming and friendly (though perhaps a bit of service training - reorganising our table only to dump it all on next table!). Unfortunately, the food was on the whole disappointing and some just bad. Children's tea was inedible- dry crudités that had clearly been cut much much earlier in the day, houmous that had separated, a pastry that looked and felt both aesthetically and culinary misplaced, almost like a breakfast leftover, a sausage tart which had no discernible sausage, soggy pastry, again looking like a leftover canapé and stale scone - £15! You would be better making decent sandwiches (offer just ham or cheese), a fresh scone with a cupcake at half the price. The adult tea wasn't great for £27 with the main memory being stake scones, which we pointed out only to be replaced with warmed stale scones. Staff dealt with the problems gracefully but they are basic issues that prevent this being good!

Booked the Wind in the Willows inspired afternoon tea (could not see the link!) as a special treat with my parents for their 50th wedding anniversary and we were not staying at the hotel. Unfortunately we didn’t get to have a table with a view over the estuary which would have been lovely and we sat in a room which felt like a walk through corridor. The food was nice but did not warrant the £27.00 price tag each. The kids each had a pizza which they really enjoyed from the pizza oven and a side order of chips that were very tasty too. We left disappointed by the price we had paid. The staff were all very pleasant but I wouldn’t recommend going as there are far nicer places to eat in the area.

What I want to know I why the head chef Dan McGeorge doesn’t have a Michelin star ? maybe he does and he’s keeping it quiet - I ate there last night and honestly the food was magnificent - really quite outstanding - I went for the pigeon starter and grouse main but another time I could easy go for the full vegetarian menu options - I come from Essex which is a bit of a culinary wasteland - but this place is good - if I had one reservation - it would be merely to swap out the LED lights in the chandeliers for something a little softer, but other than that it’s a nice place to be and service was good too. Thank you and see you again !

We had an absolutely fabulous New Years evening. We took my partner's parents for dinner and we all had a great time. There was champagne and canapes, a lovely singer (very Michael Buble!), a magician and fireworks at midnight. We were in smart casual but didn't feel out of place with many in black tie. It was a really special evening. Great hats and tiaras too! The food was delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed all of the courses, but I think the favourite was the shorthorn fillet or the chocolate with passionfruit - the jury is still undecided. The cheese course with 5 different cheeses was great (as we love our cheese!) The service was the best we had in the Lake District after trying some other fine dining. Glasses were always topped up, they were always there with a smile. Dishes were always presented all at the same time. It made for an incredibly relaxing meal. Without going into detail, we had an exquisite meal preceded by non run of the mill aperitifs so good that I had two and then accompanied the food with a sumptuous unoaked Chardonnay and finished with coffee and an excellent Armagnac. Although a bit off the beaten track and not cheap, this restaurant is well worth a visit, The attractive dining room looks over the hotel gardens, Chesil Beach and the open sea beyond. The tables are well spaced and the menu is varied and interesting, with everything clearly made to order. Whilst the portions are relatively modest, every plate of food is a work of art and you will probably feel full after three courses, particularly if you order a side dish or two. The wine list is also good and the wine buyer has clearly gone to great trouble to source wines from smaller producers. We thought the house French Chardonnay was sensationnel!

We wandered in for lunch, a small but varied menu, good service and lovely surroundings. If you're looking for a cheap lunch, probably not for you, but if you want to spoil yourself, highly recommended

We stayed at Moonfleet Manor a couple weeks ago to do some coastal walks and part of our package was £30 towards a meal in their restaurant. This basically allowed a 2 course meal, although several options would take you over this, and there was much veg included, with sides costing £3.25. We love eating out and felt the food was good, but didn't have that wow factor. My pudding was very small indeed and at £7, I would have been disappointed if I'd been paying for it. We felt the food was overpriced for what you got I'm afraid.

Great location with lovely outside courtyard complete with fig and olive trees. Good for lunches and teas but cannot recommend dinner. Friendly staff and beautiful views of peaceful countryside and lagoon.

Good food, well presented. Some main courses had the option of a smaller portion, this was perfect for me as often I cannot manage more than two courses - this meant I had room for desert! All staff very friendly, helpful and knowledgable.

it was my husbands first afternoon tea. The setting is lovely, the hotel as lots of charm. The staff were lovely. Out they came with the cake stand what a treat. Sandwiches and lots of tasty cakes the only thing the plain scones were a bit dry but with jam and cream was okay. Might be better being fruit scones. Bought this treat from tesco on buyagift. well worth it would go back and stay as it was dog friendly. Even the dog enjoyed the treat.

Overall the food was very good at typical hotel prices. There were 12 in the family and we all enjoyed the food. Children's menu a bit pricey though.

Afternoon tea with champagne at Moonfleet Manor was a wedding anniversary gift and we really had no idea what to expect as the place seemed to have mixed reviews. The first thing to note is that the sat nav tried to deliver us to a local farm so visitors need to resort to the use of a map or to be prepared to ask for local directions.A "not-the-most-imposing" building houses an old-fashioned interior staffed by really excellent, friendly, helpful and charming people. We were very early and so we enjoyed a comfy hour with a bottle of prosecco before being invited to an even cosier corner to enjoy an excellent afternoon tea.Sadly the Easter Saturday weather prevented us from fully appreciating this hotel's position next to Chesil Beach but the warmth of our reception from the staff and the deliciousness of our tea more than made up for any shortcomings in the weather and slightly worn appearance of our surroundings.

The pork meal I had got smaller each day. My wife's cod fillets was a single and the size or a fish finger and all our vegetables were cold

DBB deal that surpassed expectation. Excellent food if not a little quirky restaurant but the staff are excellent & the lounge with open fires great

The food was very well cooked. I have suggested on my feedback form that I would have preferred a smaller option as I don't have a large appetite.

We ate at the restaurant whilst staying at the hotel. We had the charcuterie platter to start, pork and tortellini for main and brulee and Horlicks ice cream to finish. All delicious and in a wonderful surrounding. The wind and rain were about but we felt so cosy inside. There is a great kids menu until 7.30 too which our 3 year old loved. The wine list is brilliant too. Quite pricey but well worth it as the wines are the best I've tasted. The staff are so attentive and friendly and the food comes out quickly and the portions are huge!

Booked as a Travelzoo deal we were unimpressed by the external appearance of the building, almost prison like from some aspects. But we couldn't fault the service or friendliness of the staff, nor the quality of the food in the restaurant. Overall very good value for money

Extremely disappointed. The Christmas Day Luncheon experience expectation did not meet the reality of the whole situation. Booking for 3 my 87 yr old Father, Sister and myself. We were made to feel welcome at Greeting. Seated to dine at a wobbly table ( 2 staff members tried to fix ) between kitchen "In and Out" doors in a room set out "Canteen Style"with large family tables. We felt an after thought ! Quality of our food not as one would expect at £120.00 per head. My plate was brought to table swimming in water which the waitress commented upon and proceeded to mop up with her napkin. My Father specifically asked for his Duck Breast not to be pink. It arrived not only pink but inedible. This was rectified by the kitchen. My Sisters meal was good. Perhaps we should have all ordered Fish !

We had an afternoon tea package and I was delighted at the quality of service and the meal provided. If you love a little pampering in front of the log fire this is the place to come.

We had a lovely family Sunday lunch here recently and it was excellent, in parts. The starters were good - my quite average salmon being the exception - and the mains were excellent (four of us opted for the belly pork). The desserts were a slightly mixed bag, with my crumble being a disappointment and my daughter in laws ice cream not really resembling what was said on the menu. Service was leisurely but friendly. The wine list was extensive and, not surprisingly, also pretty expensive. However, there were some reasonably priced options. One little grumble: no bread on offer. A shame as nice breads are always appreciated. The hotel is in a great position, even on a windy day like we had.

All the meals were excellent. We enjoyed one of the best vegetable meze's for lunch and some beautifully cooked partridge on our final night. The service was excellent at every meal and the choice of buffet and cooked breakfasts superb.

We both thoroughly enjoyed all three courses of what can only be described as an excellent meal. A little bit pricey around the edges but worth every penny, although we draw the line at a £59 steak! Coffee brulee was the winner for me! Compliments to the chef and their team. All the staff are a professional and attentive, just as they should be. Happy to eat here again, if only the Mrs would book us back in again..... hint hint.....

Excellent food and very efficient friendly staff. We were residents at the hotel, highly recommend the food. Worth booking in for a meal if you are in the area as the restaurant is open to non residents. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for. Desserts especially scrumptious

I can only write a review about the breakfast at Moonfleet as we had dinner outside. Faultless service and cooking. Absolutely recommend. The staff were very attentive but without hovering in any way. All in all a very pleasant and relaxing breakfast which was well cooked, served and presented faultlessly.

My disappointment of The Elm Tree closing has been relieved a small amount in finding out both the Head Chef Emma and Paul Clark have moved down the road to Salt in Portland so I do not have to go far for an amazing meal now

Interesting pub - THE GEORGE HOTEL IS MENTIONED IN THE ROYAL COMMISSION'S INVENTORY OF HISTORICAL MONUMENTS - WEST DORSET EDITION AS BEING CONTEMPORARY WITH CENTURY, AND ATTENTION IS BEING DRAWN TO THE ORIGINAL MOULDED CEILING BEAM AND PLATES, ALSO THE FOUR CENTERED FIREPLACE WITH THE BUILT IN SPICE CUPBOARD WITH VENTILATION HOLES. REFERENCE IS ALSO MADE TO THE GEORGE HOTEL IN J.FOWLERS BOOK "MEDIEVAL SHERBORNE" WHERE MENTION IS MADE OF A RECORD KEPT BY THE VENERABLE JOHN CHANDLER, DEAN OF SALISBURY BACK IN 1404, IN WHICH HE REFERS TO SIX LICENCES HELD BY THE RECTOR OF ST. THOMAS' CHAPEL ON THE GREEN, ONE BEING THE GEORGE INN. THE DEAN'S TOPOGRAPHICAL NOTE, ON THE RECTOR OF THE GREENS, GLEBE LANDS DESCRIBES THIS BUILDING AS THE RECTORS HOSPICE, IN THE COURT ROLLS FOR THE YEARS 1459-60, RICHARD COOT AND JOHN OSTELER, OF THE GEORGE INN SHERBORNE WERE FINED 1/4d EACH FOR SELLING HAY AND OATS AT AN EXTORTIONATE PRICE. THE DWELLING PLACE OF AVISA-HEROINE IN A POEM, ATTRIBUTED TO SIR WALTER RALEIGH WRITTEN IN 1593, "WILLOBIE HAS AVISTA" IS CLEARLY INDICATED AS THE GEORGE INN SHERBORNE, "WHERE HANGS THE BADGE OF ENGLAND'S SAINT" ON SUNDAY 26TH JULY 1616, THE MAIN PARTY THAT WAS CONDUCTING SIR WALTER RALEIGH AS PRISONER FROM PLYMOUTH TO LONDON STOPPED FOR THE NIGHT IN SHERBORNE AT THE SIGN OF THE GEORGE.
