Restaurant 88 in Birmingham

We ordered some food from here a couple of months back and the boss lady took our order and was incredibly knowledgeable about what was gluten free and vegan. We had no reactions to allergies which was honestly such a godsend and the food was delicious. So grateful to the lady who took our order, she runs a tight ship and treated us with a lot of kindness and grace. Highly recommend this place- if you have allergies definitely worth speaking to her when placing an order

Went for food here last evening and it was amazing! The food was tasty but the star of the show is the Owner/Manager, she is wonderful! Definitely a new favourite place.

WOW, we had a meal here tonight, it was absolutely delicious. The staff were so friendly & nothing was too much trouble for them. It's a family run restaurant & you can tell its really important to them that you enjoy your meal. We had Mongolian lamb to start & then chicken curry with egg fried rice & yung chow fried rice, all of the food was super tasty & the portions were extremely generous. And the cost was very reasonable. We will definitely be visiting again.

We had a takeaway from here for the first time tonight and were very impressed! Extremely friendly staff, lovely tasty food, and very reasonably priced. Looking forward to ordering again and trying some other dishes :)

Great choice of food and a really helpful member of staff who suggested we were ordering too much and could order more later if we still wanted to. She was right! This restaurant sits in the space vacated by the Jade and is much more modernised. They clearly do a roaring trade in takeaways (something I took advantage of a week after our physical visit). Sadly, my friends and I were the only eat-in customers on a Friday evening. Great value for the food and the house wine was way above average taste for a very reasonable price.

Wendy was the greatest host I’ve ever had the pleasure of being waited on by. Amazing sense of humour and incredibly friendly. Attentive, witty and downright legendary! Food was also amazing and incredibly knowledgable of the menu.

What a beautiful dining experience. Wendy was extremely welcoming to the smallish 88 Restaurant, and showed us to a warm comfy table. The black and white decor is very tasteful, well lit, and with attractive splashes of red to break it up. The tables were laid properly with cloth covers and napkins. The menu is extensive, and our mains of Sechuan prawns and duck in orange sauce were perfectly cooked and presented. Beer and an excellent bottle of Spanish red were also consumed. Wendy was a delight to talk to, and very helpful in explaining about the food. We only need a side of chow mein to complete our dinner and leave us satisfied. The chef, Johnny, came out to say hello and they are a delightful hard working couple. We lingered over excellent coffee and liqueurs, and left with a promise to return soon. Thank you Wendy and Johnny. Our latest visit, some weeks later was equally pleasant. This time we were 4 adults with a small child. Nothing was too much trouble for Wendy and we were soon comfortably eating our delicious meal. Our mains choices of 2 beef and 2 duck dishes were perfect, with dumplings, rice and chips for the little one. Thank you again Wendy and Johnny.

Stumbled across this place when checking out Moseley. We were so blown away by the hospitality of Wendy, who taught us how to use chopsticks as well as helped us in our thinking about a move to Moseley. The food was incredible, with a wide range of vegetarian options. We loved the Yuk Sung specifically! We will be ordering takeaway from here until we move !

Should be no stars. Extremely disappointed with the owner's attitude. Went based on a recommendation and also finding out they offer gluten free options too. In the end did not go to eat and would not go to either after the abuse I received for parking outside their restaurant front. Without asking if I am a customer the lady assumed I had parked there to use the laundry next door. She started to hit the back of my car with her driver door. When I got out my car to see what the noise was she accused me of ignoring her. I could carry on with her antics. If this is how you treat someone waiting for your restaurant to open then I'd dread to think what happens inside this apparent restaurant. I ended up walking down to Damascena where the gluten free food was delicious and service was impeccable. Avoid unless you want to be abused.

First used yesterday and for a takeaway. The service was excellent and very friendly. I recommend. Try the prawns with vegetables. Brilliant

Went tonight for a Saturday night dinner out and was greeted with a warm welcome as usual. Service here is always amazing Wendy is incredible and always makes us feel at home she remembers us every time we come and now even knows us by name. She's such a sweet woman and goes above and beyond to make sure we have a good time. She always makes sure we have exactly what we want and need when visiting and goes the extra mile. Such as today, I've not been very well with a cold and she brought me out some hot lemon water to help with my throat which was so kind of her. I would definitely recommend a trip here the food is lovely and the service !

Great for gluten free!! We ordered from restaurant 88 when they were Johnny wongs and we will continue to under their new name/location. My mum is coealic and I feel very confident ordering from restaurant 88 for her. The lady on the phone is happy to discuss what she can eat and how they can adjust dishes. She's called me back multiple times in the past to make sure they're getting our order right. Brilliant service! And my mum adores their ribs! Highly recommend

Flavourless food at a high price.

Absolutely superb experience this evening. The food was fantastic, warm and friendly welcome, wonderful atmosphere, nothing disappointed. This was our first visit, and we will return very soon.

Did not receive food but kept my money

RIP restaurant 88, menu has recently changed and I am left very dissapointed. Was a local and have been going here for almost 5 years from back when it was the jade, the food was fantastic. Best Chinese in Birmingham by far and such lovely owners. Now partially changed hands and I sadly won’t be eating here anymore as my faves aren’t part of the new menu. Please change back!!

We Googled his restaurant and it got great reviews but when we arrived it was empty. It didn’t matter - it was great, the staff were so friendly and welcoming and the food was (to quote my husband) “better than great”.

The world of Chinese cuisine is alive. Restaurant 88 has a superb à la carte menu. The venue is brand new and the owner is the famous Johnny Wong who is attentive, well known, and highly experienced. The food my family experienced was beautifully presented and very delicious. The prices are very affordable. I am thrilled that this quality of Cantonese restaurant has arrived on my doorstep. I will look no further than Moseley for the best Chinese restaurant in the city.

Delicious food in a warm, friendly atmosphere. 10/10!
