Lovely pub Friendly staff Yummy looking menu We sat down and agreed we were going to start using this pub until…… ordered the steak and ale pie. Probably the worst pie I’ve ever tried. Literally one piece of tough dry meat , 3 sliced mushrooms all held together with a glutinous load of stiff gravy. .. it was a slice of pie with rigid sides…. No gravy dripped out, it was like very over thickened bisto! Heavily salted. Horrid. 3 of us then ordered 3 different puddings and non were available. I then selected the meringue and that wasn’t available either…. 4/4 not available on a Friday lunch time! Staff very apologetic but that pie stayed with my taste buds all afternoon… yuk!!!

Food was quite awful to be honest I had the cous cous which had more leaves than anything the chicken was dry I just fed it to my dogs, husbands new York chicken came out with bacon even though it wasn't stated on the menu that it came with bacon, he sent it back and it came out straight away so I think they just removed the bacon and added more sauce and cheese, not good if he has an allergy, again he just gave it to the dogs. The prawn cocktail salad was rubbish and served with cheap stale bread, definitely not impressed, nobody did a check back either, we just left.

We went as a family of 6 (inc. 2 children). The food was good and the service was fine. However it took a very long time for the food to come out. Our mains took close to an hour to come out and our desserts (sticky toffee pudding w/ ice cream and apple pie) took 30 minutes to appear. It wasn't even busy on a late Sunday afternoon so it was quite disappointing to have experienced the slow service.

We pre booked for a party of 11 on sunday, we arrived on time and still had to wait over an hour for our food. 2 of our party were young children who were hungry so had to buy crisps whilst we waited for our food. When the children's food arrived they were the small Chicago town pizza. The adults ordered 2 x wexford steaks 2 x mixed grill and 2 x surf and turf, a cheese pie a fish, and a burger. Those of us that had steak on our order all requested medium rare, when they eventually arrived they were all well done. They peppercorn sauce that was requested only turned up partway through the meal and had to be asked for. The onion rings that were preorderd did not arrive either until asked for. We decided to order some afters(the cherry pie was nice) we also ordered 2 x chocolate brownie with ice cream. We were given sticky toffee pudding with no sauce. They said they were brownies when they clearly weren't...could see and taste dates. The member of staff with blonde hair behind the bar was very rude. We were planning on booking again as this is a convenient location for us to meet up. The lady that had only been working there for 3 week's was very pleasant and chatted with us before we left. I will not be returning.

First time visit here, and will be the last. Went for Father’s Day with our family of 3 children. First 2 items picked on the menu was told they was none left… decided on the curry which came with popadums so the menu said. Never arrived so I asked the waitress and she said oh yes there on the side, came back and told me they’d ran out! Terrible, experince, you’d think that given the occasion the pub would make sure there was plenty of food on the menu available. Shabby organisation and definitely won’t be visiting here again. Was never asked about desserts also and no one cared to asked if everything was ok, shows the aftercare really.

We were a large party of 12 people. A number of us went for the 10 oz rump steaks with various options and they were great. The beef and Ale pie, the roast chicken, surf and turf, fish pie and the steak burger were all hits. Unfortunately the vegetarian option - macaroni cheese was very greasy and not much cheese. It even caused an upset stomach. We visit here annually at Easter for a family catch up as it's central. Our vegetarian was disappointed there were not more veggie options.

Drinks came pretty quickly, food took a bit longer, but it was very busy, so we did understand. We had coliflower wings and soup all of us the same to make it easy for chef. Soup was delicious.. coliflower was a bit disappointing as the portions were very small for £7 photo attached. We believe that the kitchen probably runned out off coliflower and split one portion between 4 of us lol. This is the only reason for 4 starts as that portion never supposed to leave the kitchen.

Went to the Red Lion for a friend's birthday. Restaurant was working on limited post Christmas menu. Pub was being run by very few staff mostly very young ladies. Service was very slow, my wife went to the bar at least on five occasions to remind them we were waiting for service. Kitchen took nearly 50 minutes before any food appeared, just to make it clear we were a table of 10, which was the only table occupied for a large amount of the time, one other table did have a couple having lunch. Food was just passable but not really up to standard.

I have just spent several hours at the Red Lion with six members of my family and paid for the Christmas three course meal we had been looking forward to. What a disaster. The soup was ok, however the rest of the meal was awful. The turkey must have died of old age. The roast potatoes were not done enough. Water ran from the carrots and swede. **UPDATE - the manager spoke to the lady about the cigarette and it turns out it was a fake Halloween one - great work by the manager, addressing the issue promptly** My sister and I came for lunch and enjoyed some excellent food (my sister had the burger and I had the curry). The waitress was quick and attentive and the atmosphere was lovely - the fire was lit and the pub was very cosy. That was until the group of smokers and vapers that were sat outside, made their way inside. The group seemed to be local and familiar to staff. The issue arose in that the staff turned a blind eye to two members of the group: a man who was vaping inside, and then as we were leaving, a female in the group had a two cigarettes in her hand whilst stood at the bar - one lit and one unlit (it later emerged the lit one was a fake Halloween cigarette). It would have been impossible for the staff not to notice. I did email management directly to let them know and the general manager themself replied promptly and was alarmed at what had occurred. He promised to deal with the customers and staff in question, he apologised and explained that this was not normal behaviour.

This place appears to be a bit of a "lads" pub and nothing more which for a quiet tumbleweed village is a suprise. Would I return? No, there are far better pubs/restaurants nearby like the George& dragon or the spinner & bergamot. Service was ok but place needs a shake up in the food department. ⭐👎

Have eaten here a few time and always had excellent service and food. Unfortunately this visit was awful, when we arrived the pub was quiet(it did get busy not long after) but we waited 15 mins before our drink order was taken. After waiting another 15 mins we went to ask if we could order our food. The scampi was very over cooked and very sparse with cheap frozen chips, the curry was more like a spicy sweet and sour. After eating some of the meal we then had to take out own plated to the bar as after 20 mins we got sick of looking at the left over food. Eventually we were asked if we wanted sweets and Unfortunately they were as disappointing. Ice cream sundae came with some small berries and 1 strawberry which was frozen fruit( infact it was still frozen) and it was minus the meringue and chocolate flake and the banana split was a joke. The presentation, service and quality of the food was a real disappointment and we weren't the only people who left feeling that way. Will not be returning.

I’ve given 3 stars. 2 are for the nice staff and 1 is got the choice and quality of food. Choice from the menu was extremely limited as the menu was due to change the next day apparently. Our prawns in the starter were still frozen when we got them, sent them back, but the Marie Rose sauce was watery because the prawns were still defrosting. The soup chosen by one of our party was powdery and not ‘homemade’ from fresh ingredients. Had steak pie for main because our preferred options weren’t available, this was very salty, bought pastry, or even the whole pie itself was bought in, heated up in a slice so dried up at the edges. Frozen peas and frozen chips. Couldn’t face what pudding might produce, tried for a Cointreau coffee, but hey, no contreau!!! So got the bill and left. We had a voucher for 25% off, if we hadn’t had that we would have been quite vociferous in our disappointment! Won’t be back in a hurry.

An excellent pub for a drink and lunch. The landlord is a wonderful hospitable host and welcomes one and all. Excellent selection of beers on tap and a super venue. I'd recommend visiting here, thank you for your kind hospitality 😁👍

We went to the flower pot pub last year when we where on holiday from Australia and again several weeks ago while visiting again and enjoyed our meals that were served with friendly smile and very professional service. As a result it was a very special day for us today being my mother in laws 100th birthday today so we came back for a birthday Sunday lunch. The service was the same as before with the excellent meals and service, on leaving, to top it off my mother in law was presented with a bottle of bubbly, which was a lovely surprise and she was so pleased Once again we would like to thank you for a very special day and would like to recommend The Flower Pot for any occasion. We will see you again soon before our return to Australia Best Regards Reg Jones and family.
