I popped in randomly today for a sunday lunch which was a chance choice. I'm so glad that I did as it was made to perfection (chicken). As soon as I heard the Italian accents I knew the food was going to be first class. (ie i've never met an italian who will settle on food!) I've been here over the years and the management got it all so wrong; with the food, the cleanliness of the loos and service and now in 2024 its worlds away from the previous owners. Its spot on. Chef Tudoor (spel?!) was a delight with his cooking and so sweet to chat to. Highly recommend this local pub which is just the right size - not too big or too small, just right with a pool table too. Thanks for the delicious food today chef and the happy staff Michael and Darren (I think - sorry). Ill defo be back esp for the pub quiz on wednesday and can't wait to see what they do with the big garden at the back in the summer....roll on sunshine!

Great for families, Pizza were a huge hit. Roast beef slightly disappointing due to it being overdone, decent size portions

Sorry to say this but I will not be returning to this venue. Firstly the music was so loud that I was unable to hold a conversation with the people at my table and eventually I developed ear pain which is still sensitive after 24 hours. My request to turn down the volume was refused. Secondly the space is not large enough for the pool/snooker table they have. A cue nearly hit my face and blokes were stepping back into me at my seated table to position themselves around the pool table with complete disregard for my private space. The pizza was nice although expensive. The staff were nice enough but they could have done with an extra pair of hands. The toilets were clean but on the small side. If you do go my advice is to avoid music night and avoid sitting near the pool table.

I have eaten in this pub quite a few times over recent years and it has always been great but today was not good at all . When meat option pizzas were ordered they arrived with no meat on them when told the waiter replied “ oh they must have forgotten “ when asked it they were going to bring it they didn’t answer . A child’s portion of mac and cheese arrived so hot that it would have taken a child’s skin off !! Nice place nice company but the product was too expensive and very poor quality . Please feel free to contact me Red Lion !!

Having walked and driven past the Pub on numerous occasions. I decided to visit on this lovely sunny day. My friend said she had been there before when it first opened.so I was looking forward to having food and a few pints. It was virtually empty and zero atmosphere. The bar staff hardly spoke and zero customer service. I was shocked to be charge £11.50 for a pint and a bottle of cider. I paid £10.50 for the same combo up in Hammersmith by the Apollo a few days before. The Garden area was dirty, weeds growing and sofa in disrepair. Cobwebs, bird poo, muck on the booths. Parasol not open and covered in mold. Paint worn off and gravel all over the place. My friend got the menu and we decided on lasagna and gnocchi. So, she went up to order only to be told they don’t do lasagna on Sunday. For us that was the final straw and we quickly left. I understand that pubs have been hit hard by Covid and considering that it’s right by the park and bus stop. It had so much potential to be a great pub . A good clean and a lower of prices would be a good start. Add a child friendly section and it be packed. Best to avoid at all cost

The service was appalling. The barmaid was rude and dismissive. The door was wide open and it was absolutely freezing in there. The food. The roast dinner was the worst roast dinner we've ever had and it's not cheap. The beef was fatty and chewy and cut really thick. The potatoes were hard and undercooked. No flavour. The carrots tasted odd and the Yorkshire pudding was as flat as a pancake. We left most of it, and I've felt sick since. Don't recommend. Won't be returning and will stick the the other better offerings for food in East Ham.

Staying locally with work my husband, myself and our dog. Popped in last night at four and were served by Usaif who was so friendly and lovely that we decided to go back today. The opening times said today from three so as the weather was pouring down we decided to pop to the pub. It was three thirty the door was locked but the lights were on, a pleasant young man invited us in and said to wait as he needed to check us in. He came back and was told to tell us that they weren’t open till four. We were back out into the horrendous rain when surely at 15:40 they could of allowed us to sit and even open a tab, so awful. We had arranged to meet a large party of clients there early tomorrow prior to their match bookings but not now. Whoever refused us entry at 15:40 when clearly advertising opening at three on the door needs a huge lesson in hospitality… shame

Terrible service. Struggled to get someone to take drinks order. Food order not processed and no apology just excuses which did not explain how everybody else managed to get their orders apart from us, the only people of colour customers. Not the same since management change.

Despite living in the area since 1979, we'd never visited the pub while it's previous incarnation as The Hammers. However, at the start of 2017 it was reopened and remodelled by The Dirty Liqueur Company, reverting to it's original name The Red Lion. It's a small and comfortable cosy pub that features a fine large south-west facing garden at the rear - ideal for warm sunny afternoons. Food-wise, it's main claim to fame is it's excellent sour-dough pizzas plus roast dinners on Sunday which we've yet to try. It features regular DJ's (such as The Tootal Twins), a weekly quiz night and live music (usually) upstairs twice a month on alternate Sunday late afternoons/early evenings. So why do I only mark my local with only three out of five you may ask? Despite being reopened for less that two years, it is now on it's fourth (or perhaps fifth?) manager - they seem to last on average about six months before quitting (or being pushed?) - meaning the pub seriously lacks continuity. Also, when it reopened, it offered a small changing range of real ales. This was subsequently reduced to one - not a problem providing it was decent - and understandable given the size of the pub perhaps? However, over the last month or two, real ale has vanished completely (the four hand-pumps on the bar are looking very forlorn!). The alternatives available being a decent range of "craft/keg" beers at the typical price of around £5.50 per pint. Personally, I don't have a particular problem drinking them (especially while sitting in the pub garden during the summer) - but it would be nice to be given the choice, and I know of other regular customers who now prefer to drink in the Antic Pub Company run Denmark Arms which is a very short walk away and offers a range of (usually) three excellent and reasonably priced real ales. Others prefer to go to the local Wetherspoons pub - but we won't talk about that! Various excuses have been offered for the disappearance of real ale in The Red Lion - waiting for a new cooler (whatever that is?) to be installed in the cellar being the most popular. The result being that every-time we head to The Red Lion "I wonder if they've got any decent beer on?" has become a (long) running joke.

Recommend to me by a friend as a great child friendly pub / pizza restaurant in the day, I’ve been coming back for over a year now. I visited with a friend for a pre booked, three course dinner to celebrate my birthday and see Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland. ( Fabulous!). This was my first visit. The hall is beautiful and huge. We were seated at a table by a pillar with uplighting. Not good for my friend’s migraine. We asked to move and were. There was some confusion about all our details coming with us but all fine. My starter was crab cakes. Three tiny patties, fine for a starter, but I could taste everything but crab. The Waldorf Salad was mainly apple with a few bits of celery and leaves and the patties tasted predominantly of lemon. My main was Crispy Gressingham Duck. It wasn’t. The skin was soggy and the duck over cooked. With salad and a side of potatoes swimming in garlic butter. In the first interval dessert was a deconstructed apple crumble of sorts. Nice, but weirdly dry and a bit bland. The hall is beautiful but, on the ground floor area, you are seated alongside the busy bar area. Very noisy and bustling. The service was great, but overall I didn’t think our meal, at that standard of cooking, plus a bottle of wine was worth over £100 a head.

I went in to order a box of 12 glazed donuts yesterday and had a terrible experience, one of the men working there was refusing to give me a batch of new donuts and said he weren’t allowed to pack some new ones in a box as I had told him that the pre made ones I bought last time tasted off when I took them home, he carried on refusing to give me the new batch and gave me and old batch which looked burnt and off, so I kindly asked him to give me a new batch, he then went ahead and done so, the other man putting the new batch out looked like he weren’t enjoying the job at all and kept making faces that made me feel uncomfortable for even asking for new ones. I’m paying £16 for these donuts and I should be entitled to ask for a new batch to be put into a box as I’m the one paying for it, I didn’t appreciate that, due to being long about what I had asked for, they had a queue of people waiting behind me getting annoyed, not my fault but theirs, can’t follow simple instructions and look annoyed at doing their job! Please do the job your asked to do next time, makes people’s lives easier!
