I visited with my family, and I had the days special, which was satay chicken, which was very good. My son had the lasagne, and my wife had the vegetable lasagne. Which they both thoroughly enjoyed. Nice chilled out atmosphere and friendly staff. Will be going back.😄

Stayed at the campsite for one night and had some food in the pub. Facilities very basic and not very attractive. Lights in the shower not working in the morning, so not usable. Food very bland (I had a chicken curry) - below average. Service staff was trying their best, but very inexperienced. You get much better facilties at a better price at other campsites in the area.

My wife & I visited this lovely quaint village in our campervan and stayed for 3 nights with our dog on the site behind the pub. The site was tidy & the toilets/shower block was clean with lovely hot water. Washing up facilities were also available & good. My wife is disabled & everything was easy for her to use with the shower room being fully accessible. Access to the pub was good for her too. The food & drink in the pub was excellent. The prices were very fair too. We went in on Wednesday which is steak night. The service was friendly and quick. We'll definitely be back to this gem of a place.

Hugely disappointed at how much the Black Lion has gone downhill. We have been coming here for 2 years and have brought many friends and family for a Sunday Roast as in the past it has been the very best. It now seems that they are under new management and the service and quality of the food has dropped to a minimal standard. We brought our family for a roast expecting our usually lovely experience but were greeted with poor service, the wrong food being brought out, instructions ignored and a vodka and coke served in a pint of coke?! The food was disgusting...somewhat reminent of a school dinner, the meat thinly sliced and the gravy watery. The meal then ended with completely the wrong receipt being brought to the table with 5 extra items added. It's been a good run Black Lion but we will not be returning! Time to find a new roast!

I came here with my boyfriend on Sunday for the roast and we had booked a table for 4.30pm. At this rather early time, once we’d been seated we were really disappointed to find that there was no pork or beef left. We weren’t particularly inspired by the other roast options, so we decided to order from the regular menu. I ordered the tuna steak, which was unfortunately also unavailable, so we settled for 2 burgers. Whilst they were massive and definitely filling, the meat was dry and we both found it really hard to get through them even though we were super hungry! We also ordered the brie to start which was mainly bread and salad with two very small slices of brie - not what we were expecting at all. There was a party behind us who were really drunk and loud and who dropped several glasses and knocked into my chair several times whilst getting up to sing around each other. It wasn’t exactly the relaxing afternoon we’d hoped for! This was a real shame, as we’ve previously come for the roast and have had an excellent meal. I’d like to come back again, but it’s super disappointing when so much is unavailable and the alternative choice you make isn’t great!

Went with partner for Sunday lunch - relatively quiet at 4pm, so lots of space and chilled atmosphere despite international football being on. It is a really beautiful pub decor wise! I went for the chicken and my partner had the veggie Wellington. Chicken was generous but rather dry, which was a shame and I don't feel there was enough veg (some may consider this to be a positive thing I'm sure!) That was my only niggle - in comparison my partner said her veg Wellington was amazing and she really enjoyed it. Service was great, especially when we asked if we could change one of the orders slightly - very accommodating, would come again but go for lamb/pork instead!

I booked the Black Lion primarily because it is opposite the Tricycle Theatre and a friend and I were attending a show there. Having no idea what to expect we were delighted as the Black Lion is an old fashioned pub with a dining room and services bar meals. When I say old fashioned this includes the original features of the pub from the very early 19th century. I have never seen anything like this in situ and would recommend the venue for that reason alone. That said the menu was very good, as we enjoyed the pre-theatre menu, with soup and a delicious gnocchi for me, chicken for my friend, as well as a well priced bottle of wine. The service was excellent, attentive enough, without being overly so, while friendly. I hope to find an excuse to visit again soon.

I went for Sunday lunch at the Black Lion with my daughter. We both ordered scallops to start which were delicious. To follow we both had the roast beef with all the trimmings, which was reasonably good though not outstanding. Our waitress was lovely and the prices were reasonable. However although the dining room was quite pleasant, it was virtually empty, most diners seemed to opt to eat in the bar, so not much ambiance. I would go again but probably eat in the bar.

Beautiful pub with lots of original features. Service very good, attentive and considerate. Sunday roast was amazing, home cooked, we tried the pork and lamb, definitely go back. The alternative to roast was salmon or salads, both salads Surf and Turf and blackened Chicken were very good, so lots of hard choices to make! Bit disappointed about the puddings I had heard they were home made and excellent, but the creme brûlée was very thick too thick but edible and the rhubarb crumble was very very dry. A lovely place to enjoy a drink and some great food.

Firstly, a quite outstanding pub in its own right - breathe taking architectural features (ceiling etc), and a huge long bar. One of the best in London in my opinion. So to the dining, in the dining room (with equally impressive ceiling). We booked for 5 people and when we arrived had a warm welcome. Negatives: tables and chairs a bit of a second hand store mish mash, our table was really wobbly and hardly fit for purpose. My steamed spinach with garlic (part of the chicken & mushroom pie plate) was not steamed and had no garlic (just oldish leave out of a pack). Service, although staff are remarkably good, was slow (although they were really busy, and had a mass booking/function which they coped with really well). BUT that's where the negatives end. My chicken and mushroom pie was the best I have ever had, full of flavour; others had roast beef (looked and tasted amazing with lashings of awesome gravy), roast lamb, and burger. All amazing and memorable, and selection of deserts too. Top value for money, and a place We would highly recommend. We will definitely be back for more of the same.

Great looking venue and really welcoming waiting staff led us to have high hopes... Faded quickly as food started to arrive. Very underwhelming, small portioned starters we let ride as not everyone gets these right and the mains sounded good. Unfortunately these arrived with under seasoned, tough and untrimmed (lamb) on an overcooked student-like pile of risotto that looked like every left over in the kitchen had been stirred in. An average steak was also served up with completely blackened burnt chips and massive tasteless onion rings and a cold sauce. At the end of a long day we decided to just eat what we could and finish our bottle of wine but even this was disturbed by screaming and shouting from the kitchen, clearly audible to all diners. I used to work in kitchens and understand a momentary incident can cause staff to boil over but this continued for over 30 minutes! The venue has great potential and in some of it's (Italian) front of house staff some excellent people who made us feel really welcome... The kitchen however is failing and needs correcting from the top down.

I had Sunday lunch here last week with my partner and when I left I was full, the portions were huge which makes it hard to critic the food too badly but I was expecting a really great British meal and left feeling disappointed. The service from the Irish barman were second to none and made moving our booking from the restaurant to the bar very easy and helped us choose a few drinks. I liked the look of most starters but felt all the garnishes were strange so I skipped, however my partner had the scallops which were almost raw (let it be said I like them opaque or even medium rare) they had no colour and were cold, they had not been prepped and still had roes attached, I cant even recall the garnish as we didnt eat them. The pork belly main was a great piece of meat and I really enjoyed the flavour, it had been cooked slow and very well, but that was it, the veg that accompanied was not seasoned and ranged from raw to over done. The roast potatoes were black instead of crispy and clearly means they were warmed in microwave or hot held with a lid on, the potatoes had not even been peeled?! To finish the crumble was inedible and the butter or fat used in it had split and lacked enough crumble top to balance. The ice cream was good quality. All in all was less than forty pound so cannot grumble too much, but just wanted it to be good, and it was far from it.
