Red Lion in Wigan

So visited a sit was 4.2 star, as not from the area, but was disappointed. The food was ok, although the burger sauce tasted like salad cream, they forgot to remove the onion and then they were drilling in the bar, which was loud.

Brilliant family pub with great prices, food was excellent. We will definitely be returning

Good food and service at a reasonable price. Having the fast 75kw chargers on site is really handy too.

It is a bustling/lively pub with friendly staff and a range of beers, from typical lagers to a couple of guest ales. Located on a busy junction on the outskirts of Lowton, it has a beer garden to one side and free car parking to the other. It does serve food, and there are dining areas away from the bar area, but I have not eaten here. It has sport on TVs dotted around the bar area and outside in the garden, while you can also play pool or darts here too.

Me and my wife returned from Spain on Friday and drove from Manchester to North Yorkshire were we live. In the early hours of Saturday morning we received a massage from our son thier first baby had arrived 3 weeks early. Their house was upside down their room only half fitted wardrobes completes baby’s room not even started. We drove down to Newton le Willows and spent the day cleaning and making the house as baby ready as we could. When we had done as much as we could we visited baby and parents at Whiston Hospital . Our son suggested we call for an Indian meal in Lowton which we did he suggested ordering it then waiting in the pub across the road it usually takes about 20 minutes as it was it was virtually ready when I got there I walked over to the car park to let my wife know and we decided to head home to our sons as we were pretty knackered at this stage. A few days later we got a £60 fine for spending 14 minutes in the pub car park we didn’t ever realise there was a parking restriction!!!.

Great pub, staff are very friendly and accommodating. Brilliant atmosphere when big sports games are on. Plenty tv’s all around the pub so anywhere you sit you’ll be able to see one. Massive beer garden which also has a tv and a bouncy castle and a kids play area for the little ones.

Awful service. Got kids sausage and mash for my son. Literally teaspoon of mash. Asked for beans separate on kids meal came over food. Asked for kids cheese pizza came as cheese baguette. Partners bacon on his burger wasn't cooked at all. Portion sizes on kids and adult meals atrocious for the prices. Spoke to the manager who literally dismissed our concerns. No apologies at all. Asked for ice creams for kids desserts. The chef refused to serve us as we'd complained about his meals. Disgusting service. Even one of the bar staff came out to us cos she couldn't believe what she'd heard from him apologising. Said how downhill its gone since new manager. Won't be going there again.

Nice pub, decent beer selection with a cask ale for the old man. Lots of teles for watching sport and good outdoor area, so got to enjoy the sunshine. Didn’t have the food but what came out looked good, decent portion sizes for the price. Also looks like they do lots of live entertainment in the evenings.

Went with girlies for food and a drink ....the ladies size steak was cooked to everyone s taste ...wine by bottle great value ... lovely night in conservatory ....and not expensive.....staff really friendly and even offered to help me get an Uber on her account ...we. will definitely be back 👍👌

Great pub, great food with a large variety to choose from, children’s play area with free to use bouncy castle, plenty of TVs for sport, good weekend entertainment, a weekly quiz on a Thursday with music bingo and also dog friendly which is a bonus! Definitely recommend

Me and my family recently visited the Red Lion and we were very impressed. The food was lovely and reasonably priced, service was great, all the staff seemed cheery and happy which makes for a great atmosphere. The children had a great time as there was a bouncy castle in the garden and we could sit outside in a great beer garden. We will most definitely return

Disappointed, called in yesterday with friend for early lunch £6.75 with drinks, only to be told that menu was for the soup only because it was the cheapest meal on the menu. Needless to say we didn't stay . The staff need to be aware of what they are advertising as it is misleading for customers . Would not go back. We found a much better pub with delicious food. Glad we didn't stay for the soup.

my friend was driving so we asked for %lager they had run out of.I ordered fish and chips no fish i was wishing we had not bothered.the food was far to salty.i love dogs but they where running everywhere . I wont go back again

If your in Lowton, and you want a descent meal, i would not go to the red lion, depending on the type of person you are, if you like karaoke, cheap beer , and you dont expect much you will be ok .

We went here for Sunday lunch. It's great that's it's dog friendly, we took our 2 dogs with us. Service was very good and the Sunday lunch was great and plentiful.

Came for the cocktail price had been increased on some of the 2 for 10 deals been a regular for the last 5 years since Laura was here. The cocktails where not the best. Menu needs updating with the new price list for the deals

Booked a table for 6.45 for Christmas Eve meal to find out when we got here no food available ! What an absolute sham! Talk about ruin our evening Needless to say won’t come again!

Been in here a few times while working in the area. Delicious food, friendly staff and customers and reasonably priced drinks. Plenty of TV's for watching a variety of sports. Large and heated beer garden for the smokers with it's own TV. A great place well worth a visit.

The worst Roast Dinner I have tasted, it was poorly presented, I was too embarrassed to tell you as would of had to have given a refund. I would never return. We passed again yesterday but went to another eatery It was a shame I expected much better, never assume.

Friendly staff. Big + shows football. Whole place is a bit worn out, furniture needs an upgrade, also could use lick of paint in quite a few areas. Gents toilets minging (9pm ish), think that area needs a good deep-clean. (Or clientele needs to improve aim) I didn’t eat here, probably because of above; more of a drinkers pub, beer cheap. Good outside areas.

Nice place with good food. The young lady serving us made us feel so welcome and she was very kind to our two year old and her three year old friend. (Monday lunchtime)

Very poor ale selection and similarly limited food options. Very disappointed compared with, admittedly rare, previous visits. Won't rush back.

Food was ok , kids meals are great value. Some of the food was over salted . I'd rather put my own salt on my food. Even the chips came with the salt already on them, too much for my taste. Overall though the food isn't bad.

Went in for drinks. Service is pretty good, good selecetuon of drinks but the lines could do with being cleaned.

Seriously awful lunch. Ordered nachos which were smothered in liquid cheese and raw onions. Prawns in breadcrumbs which were so oily. Vegetarian chicken nuggets which were inedible and tacos which were edible but nothing like tacos. The young lady servings was lovely but shame about the food.

Food was terrible everything over cooked/ children's chicken nugent borderline burnt, onion rings unedable, Gammon let's say crispy. Ribs were ok. Deserts were ok. Not sure what's happened as food is normally 9k here

The place is good, and service, but the food is not very nice. Wouldn't eat there again. Overcooked pub food.
