This place seems to have reopened under the name Jumbo Chinese Restaurant. First time ordering here and sadly my last. Delivery took an hour but at order it said 20-30 mins. Food arrived cold and had to be heated before eating. The chicken fried rice was nothing like a normal Chinese chicken fried rice. There was no flavour at all and the chicken was greasy and tough. Weirdly, the rice was also bright yellow, more like an Indian pilau rice. The spring rolls were OK and edible but sadly not good enough to make me want to order again. Sadly my search for a decent Chinese takeaway goes on.

Food was fab ,service slow and my son is a vegi and on the 4th attempt to order off menu yay! They had something that was available off the menu. There were only three tables of people including us at it was 7pm booking on a Saturday night. Will leave it a while before we go back again. The one waitress was good but the other lady could not ubderstand us. The spring rolls got mixed up and my Son was not amused at eating into a spring roll with meat in it. Hope it improves there.

My husband and I went to Long Sun last night as a spontaneous decision to eat out. I have to say, the staff are so very friendly and accommodating. The decor is tidy and the place is clean. However the building from the outside leaves a lot to be be desired. The sharing starter was absolutely delicious. In fact the whole meal could not be faulted. All fresh and served hot to the table. Amazing food hygiene rating too! We certainly left with full bellies and every intention of returning again to this lovely little gem we have discovered. Highly recommended.

Phoned to book table for two but got no answer. I received a phone call from them later in the day and booked a table. Really glad I did because the food and the service were both fantastic. The food was hot, delicious and there was plenty of it. Our waitress was attentive but not intrusive and very pleasant. We will definitely be returning again.

It's my first time there since they're change it to the new management "Long Sun". The food is gorgeous, everything cooking fresh so sparing your time after ordering. We're got a few missed ordered but that down to the computer or human error. But they're gave us a free complementary so that making up for it. Everyone enjoying the food and the service is excellent. Definitely coming back and recommended.

Just finished enjoying an excellent meal at the newly named Long Sun restaurant. We always liked the old Red Chamber but in truth its standards had slipped a bit. However, very glad to see the Long Sun is better than ever and highly recommended.

We had chilli ribs, hot pot, chilli chips and boiled rice. Everything was delicious. The only criticism was the rice was Luke warm. Staff Jackie and other waiting staff were just lovely.

Very disappointed in our dining experience this evening Every plate of food came out separately with approx 5-10mins wait between each plate being bought out with one meal not coming out at all. Overall decor needs a face lift and having the heaters on so not sat in coats would of been nice. Expressed our disappointment around not having all our food brought out together or at the very least one after another within minutes of each plate. Was informed very sorry but they are a chef down and its the same for every table. Asked for a discount as not happy and again told very sorry but no can do. Every table the same. Shame really as the food was very nice but would of been far better had it all been on the table at the same bloody time. Will Not be returning in a hurry !!!!

Had a takeaway and all I can say is the whole thing went in the bin. Worst Chinese I’ve had the rice was wet and the special fried rice and chicken fried rice was exactly the same with a few extra tiny bits of meat mixed into the ‘special’ fried rice. Curry sauce was like soup, prawn toast was horrible and soggy but that’s no surprise as it was delivered in a plastic tub, think they need to reconsider the way they deliver certain dishes as obviously prawn toast is going to end up like that. Tried feeding it to the dog so it wasn’t a complete waste but even she walked away and didn’t want it. Very very disappointed and will never order from here again.

We ate-in and had takeaway from here a lot before Covid, for about 10 years, until it (presumably) changed hands and changed name to Long Sun. We then had a couple of not great takeaways so we changed to another takeaway. Having had some recent good reports from a friend we decided to take that friend here for a post-lockdown meal. We were quite happy with everything and we are likely to return again certainly for eat-in. The staff were all fast but friendly. Covid rules all being followed that we could see. The only disappointment was the fish in the Sweet and Sour Fish Fillet - we expected cod as that's what we'd had elsewhere, not sure what we got - apparently seabass but it was too strong a taste for sweet and sour we felt. Somewhat sad that Michael has was not there, as we got on well with him - I know some people thought he was grumpy but we just thought he was juggling a lot of balls and trying to make sure everyone had a great experience, and we had some nice conversation with him when he wasn't busy. Overall good to see the place back in full swing albeit minus the buffet option.

Ordered food New Years Eve and they phoned me and said they had no bbq ribs left, they virtually ordered me too order something else. Because of the attitude the woman gave me over the phone I cancelled the order and asked for a full refund. The incomplete order turned up at my door, so I turned the food away as I had already cancelled it. Again phoned them asked again for refund. Have I got it? No, they owe me £18 Why they think they can steal peoples money is beyond me, and I know if I went to the restaurant it would probably get a bit heated and that is not what I'm after just the money. Order from somewhere else you might be doing yourselves a favour 😉

Now The long sun..... name is very accurate....LONG !!! We arrived at 6pm, waiting around 40 minutes to be asked what we would like to drink and this was only after we asked. Then around 20 minutes later we ordered our starters, we were told we had to order our mains at the same time so the kitchen can prepare. Starters arrive around 45 mins after ordering. Food was nice. No prawn crackers were bough over on arrival as so on other tables, we only got some when we asked after being seated for 2 hours!!! Overall absolutely shocking service, rude waiters and clearly incapable, seems they were prioritising deliveries over the half empty restaurant. Will not be eating here again, not a very pleasant 3 1/2 hours, just to make matters worse the place was freezing, it was warmer outside!!

We have used the Red Chamber for many many years, over 20 in fact and I always enjoyed the food and service. However it seemed to go down when they introduced plastic table cloths and a stray cat was allowed inside. The cat finished me off and I didn’t go for about 2 years. Not against cats in general just not a fan of them in restaurants. I am happy to say that I have been a couple of times since Xmas and the plastic table cloths have gone! the cat has gone too! so has Michael and Christine. I think it was Michael who encouraged the cat tbh, so maybe the cat had gone with him. it is under new management. It is now called The Long Sun. I am happy to see some of the old staff are still there. The food is amazing again and the service as always is pleasant and friendly. It would be a shame to lose this restaurant as it was previously such a good place to eat and my personal experience since Xmas is that it is back up to its original fantastic standard

A group of 4 of us went to the Red Chamber last night (it has now changed it's name to "Long Sun") we all opted for the "All you can eat" buffet. We had a very pleasant evening. The food was amazing!!!! I cannot understand why this place gets bad reviews?! The staff were friendly, happy and smiling and made us feel very welcome. The customer service is very high, I would definitely recommend and will definitely go back soon! I would recommend the prawns, as they were the best prawns I've ever tasted and the deep fried Aubergine. Literally no complaints :)

Having been here previously and enjoyed the food, I was very dubious about visiting the restaurant after it has been rebranded to Long Sun. The reviews are pretty terrible, and I was braced for a miserable experience…However, staff greeted us as soon as we walked in the door, and were very friendly, bringing us prawn crackers with our drinks as we waited for the rest of the party to arrive.When they did, and we moved to our table, they brought more prawn crackers as we looked over the buffet menu (which seemed pretty much the same as before) for £18.50 each all you can eat.You can order up to 2 starters and 2 main courses per person (plus rice) each time you order - this might seem a bit restrictive, but it's so that the kitchen can prepare your main meals as you are eating your starters, so there is less waiting between courses. It works perfectly, and if you want more starters you can just order them with your next round!There was never any suggestion that we would be made to pay for any uneaten food, and we felt no pressure to do this - I can only assume that if this has happened it's because people have ordered far more food than they could eat, wasting the great food.And it was great food! My favourite was the roast pork curry, which comes with a nice, thick sauce and is very tasty. The king prawn dishes were amazing - you could tell they were very fresh as they were light and fluffy and cooked to perfection in every dish we tried! All of the roast duck dishes were tried were equally great, from the pancake starters to the main dishes, with the balance succulent and crispy just right.I don't really have any criticisms. Personally, I'd prefer slightly smaller portion sizes just so I could try more off the menu, but they should be fine for most people. I'm a chili-head, so would also prefer more spice - next time I go I will see if they can do mine extra spicy, but I'll be happy either way as it still tastes great.Overall a brilliant experience - staff were all very attentive and shook our hands as we left. I'll be going back soon!

Went for our Christmas get together. We have used this restaurant on a regular basis for a good while. However it’s now changed hands and sadly it’s gone down the pan. We were the only people in there which tells a story especially just before Christmas party season. Service was terrible food was slow arriving orders were forgotten, food wasn’t as good as it used to be. Won’t be going back any time soon.

Firstly, this restaurant is now called Long Sun. My husband and I went in the evening and although I had heard it doesn't do lunches we saw earlier in the week, a group of people leaving late lunchtime, after what had clearly been a social occasion.The food was good and with generous portions. We found the more senior staff, at least, very friendly in a family sense. Chopsticks are provided, alog with a chinese style spoon, although cutlery is provided if required. At the end of the meal, which we had eaten mainly with the spoon, having strugled with chopsticks, the manager (I think) demonstrated how to use them and then gave us each a new pair to take home - to practice. Service staff were more reserved but still helpful.We couldn't eat everything but there was no problem at all having the remains boxed to take home.We will eat here again and have no hesitation in recommending it.

My husband and I would often go to the Red Chamber for the good value and tasty food. I have to say the service was always a bit tricky as the manager would never give any gesture of friendliness. The female staff are lovely, polite with excellent customer service. They do gave a young man who tries his best but can come across a little pushy. On our last visit we realised that they had changed the name of the restaurant and the buffet style menu now has terms and conditions. There has been a price increase and a customer service decrease. My husband and I do not drink alcohol only soft drinks we always order a drink but ask for a jug of water as well. I was told that a glass of water would have a cost of one pound! I have to say the presentation of the food looked bland and unimpressive.

Went here last night for a family birthday meal but it is not an experience I shall be repeating. Firstly they could do with hiring staff that know what they're serving and have some experience in customer service, we had multiple servers and nobody seemed to know whether our order had been taken as we kept being asked if they could take our order when we had already given it. They served over the top of your head, passing things across the table, twice I had a hot dish knocked into my head whilst food was being passed over the top of me. One of our servers brought out sesame prawn toasts and announced 'who ordered these biscuit things', when we told him they were prawn toasts he said, 'they give me stuff and shout what it is but I can't understand what they're saying' , sounds like amazing communication between staff....NOT! Food was ok, not amazing, some of it was a bit greasy, my daughter had stir fried vegetables and when she bit into the baby corn she gagged on the taste, she had to take them all out of the dish as they were a yellowish grey colour and looked off, when she gave the corn to the waitress she just smiled and said 'ok,it's because they are tinned' so the stir fried veg isn't even fresh it's out of a tin! They were definitely not the right colour and they were definitely off! All in all some of the food is mediocre and some of it is below average, it is definitely overpriced at £18.50 per person and a £3 charge if you leave anything, my daughter had to tell the waitress she would not be paying a £3 charge for something that was inedible, which thankfully she did accept. Definitely wouldn't recommend and won't be going again! Also when you Google this place it comes up us 'Red Chamber' but when you get there it's called 'Long Sun' sounds a bit dodgy to me!

There is a new management in place, and the name has now changed to the Long Sun. The previous owners had let the food quality slip somewhat, but I can honestly say that the food has improved to a high standard again.The staff are very attentive and helpful. It is well worth a visit.

The menu offers a buffet menu, but it isn't really that - read TERMS & CONDITIONS APPLY. You can only order two dishes at once, no more. If you want to order something else for your buffet meal, then if you don't finish those dishes you will get charged extra for them. And don't ask for a second glass of TAP water, because they would like to charge you for that too.The food was OK, but if you have to make sure you clean your plate in case the "bean counter" adds it to the bill, it really does spoil the ambience. Buffet is about eating what you enjoy with friends, not worrying what the bill might be.

Last time I went in February with friends the food was as it always has been which is good I like the buffet night as you can choose something and share to try new dishes. What I didn't like was the way the new boss was shouting at his staff in front of customers, I'm talking about the young man who has been every time I've been the body language for me put me off and I haven't been there since! Shame as I do like the food.

Been going here for years, regularly, but we now have plastic tablecloths, paper napkins, food has changed and is flavourless, staff rude, requested half crispy duck and was told we could have a quarter!. Had to order starters and mains ( no doubt to discourage you from ordering more starters), when order was taken we were told we had maximum 2 hours to eat... surprised an egg time for two hours wasn’t left on our table, and cost has risen by £3,50 per person, we paid but left no tip and won’t return, it’s now called long sun or something similar...

We have visited this restaurant quite frequently over the last 6 years and always had really good, hot food in pleasant surroundings and good banter with the staff. It has changed management and certainly not for the better! No complimentary prawn crackers were offered, no moist cleansing towels given after starters. The starters were not as good as previously (spare ribs were fatty and tough!)

Have been going to the Red Chamber for a couple of years. It’s under new management. Well, what a difference. Food quite poor, some of it was not hot. We ordered sea base, but was served another type of fish. Portions are smaller and the food it’s not as tasty. We were charged £11.20 for 4 pints lime and soda. We couldn’t wait to get out the place. We won’t be going back.

If I could rate this place a zero I would. We have used this restaurant lots of times in the past and would honestly say it was the best in the area but now it has deteriorated badly. Staff set food down that you haven’t ordered then argue with you that you did? Then take it away for someone else? Portion size is very poor and badly cooked. Staff are extremely rude. 7 tables were occupied while we were there and every single one was complaining. Food is very, very slow to get to you and not very hot. My Wife ordered beef with onions and the beef was virtually raw, when she told them they argued that it was well cooked. This restaurant was never great for customer service but the food made up for it. Avoid or be disappointed.

31/7/19 It was an impromptu decision to go. I wish I hadn't. The change since new management, but not new owners. Quite full (guess it was payday). Required a table for 5, but two wouldn't be eating; my daughter (17), and her friend (20). So to serve 3 people. Already order my wife and my drink at the bar (although it shows a Carling tap, it is actually served from a can). No house dry wine. At the table ordered the additional 3 drinks - 3 normal cokes, two with ice, one without. All arrived without. Order BBQ ribs as a starter for me and the wife to share, having asked the waitress, how many in a serving. She had to go away and ask the chef. For information it is 8. 3 Mains ordered. All the food came at the same time, served on cold plates. Wife's main did not arrive. Asked 3 times, and told it was on its way. 20 minutes later, it was discovered on another table. COLD! They had basically two people taking orders, and one of the two (young lad) not having a clue. Nor did have a clue how to serve, as he just plonked the missing food on the table without eye contact. When I ask for wet ones to wipe our hands due to the BBQ ribs.... also slammed on the table. Another person came to ask if everything was OK. Mentioned the cold food and the starter arriving at the same as the main, and wife's missing meal. He offered us a free drink, I declined. I said what they really needed was more "trained" staff. Two other tables chased for food, and got food out of sequence. It was a complete farce, and I shall not be returning anytime soon. The previous front of house manger has left (Michael), and Christine has left too, to work in Kidderminster. They now only have one person working behind the bar. Also, whilst in the bar area given prawn crackers..... Tough to eat, obviously stale. AVOID.... Sorry, nearly forgot the best bit..... I had to ask for the bill 3 times, and each time they kept coming back asking if we wanted coffees or a sweet.... What was the best bit? When I paid the bill, I was asked if I had enjoyed my meal, I said no, not really. They clearly didn't understand and replied, O good!!!!

We all had a great time at our end of year social event. The food was delicious and once the management realised that more serving staff were required for a party of our size, it came regularly, just cooked and piping hot. I've been before and will definitely go again.

We have recently visited the Red Chamber with family and friends. Although the meal was tasty, we sat with our empty starter plates for 15 minutes before any acknowledgement from the waiting staff, on a quiet monday night. The first and last of our starters were 15 minutes apart, and mains took a ridiculously long time to come out. Some of the orders were wrong. Asked when we ordered starters if we needed to order mains at the same time, he said it didn't matter, to then be told when we complained that we should have ordered everything together. We will not be coming back!

We have been to the Red Chamber numerous times in the past and ordered off the buffet menu which has always been good value. Our previous visit was about 6 months ago. However, this time we visited on a Friday evening to celebrate a friend’s birthday and discovered there have been a few minor changes.

The food is delicious , all fresh and hot, really big choice. The stuff made us feel absolutely uncomfortable though. They constantly kept looking at us, especially our kids (aged 2,5 and half year). Someone was coming every 5 minutes, not even to ask about food but to talk and mess with the kids ( no baby will handle constant touching by strangers!). Maybe it's better if you're not with kids, we felt lime they were checked if maybe they could eat too much as they don't pay.

Been here a couple of times now for the buffet, as the food is really nice and there’s a great variety to choose from. Staff are friendly and helpful and the service is very quick considering they’re always busy, highly recommend.

Red Chamber is great value for money. £15.50 per person for All You Can Eat cooked fresh to order is an amazing price. They have an expansive menu with lots of vegetarian options to choose from. The service is always lovely and the food arrives very quickly. I would definitely recommend Red Chamber to anybody who loves chinese food.

Expensive! Came here on new years eve which may have been the reason it was so busy. But the service was just so slow. The food was average not the best I ate it because I was hungry. The price was a different story and was so expensive. One of the waitresses kept sneezing and then going to the kitchen where the food was being cooked which wasn't pleasant to watch or hear. The overall place just wasn't very nice and looked dirty and outdated. Wouldn't recommend

Fantastic food as ever. We have truly enjoyed visiting the Red Chamber for 16 years now, both as a couple, with friends and as part of larger celebration parties. Always happy with the place. Very little has changed about the place over the years, but that is a bonus not a negative. Generally the staff are genuinely very friendly and welcoming. The restaurant manager comes across as a bit detached but we find this to be all part of the local charm of the place. He is always very efficient but rarely smiles. Usually able to get a table at fairly short notice for small groups. Well with a visit and highly recommended.

waited over half an hour to be seated although our tables were ready , we were a large group of 28 but found they were understaffed and manager Micheal sullen and moody , young waiter was polite and hard working but saw no other staff , we waited ages for orders to be taken and orders were not taken all together , food was mainly of poor quality and we all felt we were not looked after , one meal had to be sent back as was cold , we will not be returning as unfortunately my son felt his birthday meal was the worst hed ever had.

Sat down at 7:30 and ordered drinks, we didn’t see a drink until 8.30! Didn’t realise a can of carling took so long to pour. Set menus are a disappointment. Moody manager but that seems to be part of the experience. Can only describe as the Chinese version of ‘Fawlty Towers’. We only saw one table get up and leave plus three other tables walking to the bar to get their own drinks after waiting too long.

Good friendly service and good tasty food Every time I’ve had a take away my there has been no concerns order spot on . Great food for here always loving this chinese :) Unfortunately after this evening I had to revise my review for this place. They do have a new member of staff who was very inexperienced but also very curious and lovely. I have been ordering food here for a few years, I have always enjoyed the food. I always order the same food every time. Unfortunately the new member of staff got my order wrong. I phoned to explain this and was told to hold on whilst she spoke to the owner. After several twos and throws was told I can have the food on a delivery with a charge also with delivery charges They had already spolit the order cause I didn't get to have my main. The reaction made it worse. What a shame always love this place but will not be returning
